Read Mark 7:1-23 We often get this passage backwards—we think that the Pharisees were focused on the outside—ritual and behavior—while Jesus is focused on the in keeping the inside clean. But that's because we get confused about the point they are arguing. We think Jesus is abolishing dietary laws. “Are…

How might that affect our own prayer lives?2. How do you think the woman with the hemorrhage would have beentreated in her society? Why would she have been treated that way?3. Who, in our modern society, is treated as unclean, untouchable andexiled? What can we, as followers of Christ, do to help?4. Why do you think this woman sought the help of Jesus at this time inher life? What other things had she tried to be healed?5. What did Jesus say was the true source of her healing?6. Do you think it was easy for the woman to get to Jesus? If not, whydid she fight so hard to get to Him? What does this mean to us today?7. What did Jesus call the woman after she was healed? What do youthink this meant to the woman?8. How was the woman's healing more than just physical? How wouldher life have been different going forward?9. Acts 10: 15 (NLT) says, “Do not call something unclean if God has madeit clean.” What does that mean to you? Is there deeper meaning tothis verse? How does it instruct us to treat others, even if they are“unclean” or “misfits”?Prayer for the Week:Gracious and loving God, we come before You with grateful hearts, remembering the woman who sought healing with unwavering faith, touching the hem of Your garment and receiving the wholeness shelonged for. Remind us that just as You were available to her in herdeepest moment of need, You are available to us in our brokenness, ourweariness, and our times of feeling like misfits in this world. We thankYou, Lord, that in Your Kingdom, there are no misfits—You embrace us all, just as we are, and offer the healing, love, and grace that transforms us.Help us to live with the same courage and faith as the woman whoreached out, knowing that You are always near, ready to restore and makeus new. Read Mark's recent article, The Protected JFK Files, on Kennedys and King. Find The JFK Assassination Chokeholds: That Prove There Was a Conspiracy on Amazon! Len & Mark discuss the inspiration for Mark to focus his attention on the JFK files. In October 2017, the censorship of the remaining JFK files expired. Trump didn't release the files! Mark educated himself on the statute that was passed in Congress creating the JFK Files Act in 1992. The release of Oliver Stone's movie, JFK, caused immense pressure on the government to release files! Mark has probably read this law 100 times at this point, educating himself on the JFK Records Act. The ARRB had unprecedented authority to look at records & change declassification status on files. The AARB went through EVERY record that the agencies wanted protection on & made decisions. Prior to this law, lawsuits were filed under the FOIA which allows an agency head to veto info requests. Jefferson Morley has done tremendous work looking into the CIA connections to Oswald. The CIA has been fighting hard to keep records closed so the public doesn't learn the truth! Jefferson Morley has been heavily focused on having CIA's George Joannides's files declassified. CIA lied to the Warren Commission, the HSCA, the ARRB etc. about Oswald's activities & history. There is an institutional mandate since creation of the CIA after WWII to keep their operations secret. There are over 3600 protected files still in the archives, violating the law to declassify all JFK files. What can Trump & Congress can do now to have the JFK files released? Discovered memo drafted for Trump, rewriting the JFK Act illegally to delay the release of JFK files. Trump sadly issued a six month delay & then a three month delay of the release of the JFK files. Biden made matters worse with his 'transparency plans' to basically silence public interest. With Bobby Kennedy being in the cabinet, perhaps NOW the remaining files will finally be released. Bobby Kennedy has spoken out that he feels the CIA was responsible for his Uncle's assassination. RFK Jr. Is trying to have his daughter in law appointed to Deputy Director of the CIA. We know a significant amount of information on Oswald. What more do they still want to keep secret? Research has shown that the 'official' conclusions made about Oswald have been false. Why did the CIA create this profile of Oswald being a communist? If there were evidence of Castro being behind JFK's assassination, LBJ would have bombed Cuba. Mark feels Oswald was a CIA asset used in operations before JFK’s assassination in Dallas, Texas. JFK investigator Dan Hardway's work on Oswald in Mexico City is excellent. Find his work online. Oswald was set up by the intelligence agencies to look like a Castro sympathizer. What are the most logical reasons for the CIA's continued secrecy? Operation Northwoods was discovered by the ARRB in the late 90's. JFK outright rejected the Operation Northwoods plan. Mark explains the Operation Northwoods plot. The DRE group was sponsored by the CIA & ran by George Joannides out of JMWAVE in Miami. This group is the single source for information sent around the world that Oswald was a pro Castro nut. Len discusses the possibility of John Armstrong's theory of the 2nd Oswald & LHO impersonators. Mark hopes there will be a Congressional investigation into the assassinations. If you watch Building 7 fall, you'll understand that the buildings must have been wired for demolition. There isn't any actual video of a plane hitting the Pentagon. Why isn't there security video at least? Mark recommends everyone watch the 9/11 documentary Loose Change. Watch Full Documentary Here

Discussion Questions Sermon Overview: Jesus is pleased when we respond to his worth with extravagant love.1. Those who recognize Jesus' worth respond with extravagant love. (vv. 1-3, 10-11)2. Jesus is pleased by our responsive love. (vv. 4-7)3. Jesus' worth is particularly seen in his death out of love for us. (vv. 8-9)Digging Deeper: Read Mark 14:1-11 1. Mark (the author of this gospel), frequently “sandwiches” one story into the middle of another (often referred to as a “Markan sandwich”). We see that here in 14:1-11 (vv. 1-2 and vv. 10-11 are “the bread”, vv. 3-9 are “the meat”). What are some of the contrasts this “sandwich” helps us see? 2. Mark goes out of his way to make sure we, his readers, see the extravagant nature of the woman's gift. What are some of the details he includes that help us see this? Why do you think Mark is so determined to help us see this? What does the value of the gift communicate about the worth of the one to whom it is given? 3. Those gathered around the table are scandalized by what in their eyes is the woman's “wastefulness.” (v. 4). What accounts for this contrast in perspectives (between those grumbling about this “waste” and the woman)? What did the woman see that the others did not? 4. In order to respond (like the woman) to Jesus' worth with extravagant acts of love, we must first recognize his worth. How does that happen? Are there things we can do to see Jesus' worth more clearly? 5. What gets in the way of you recognizing the worth of Jesus? (This could be other things you're drawn to more than Jesus, distractions, etc).6. While we don't have the opportunity to express a love for Jesus the exact same way the woman did, there are ways we can be extravagant in our outpouring of love for Christ. What are some examples of “extravagant love” for Jesus you have witnessed? What might it look like for you to display extravagant love for your Savior?7. Why is it crucial that we distinguish between displays of love to Jesus because he loved us, and displays of love to Jesus so that he will love us? What are some of the disastrous consequences that can result from failing to get this distinction right? 8. Because Jesus loved his people, he died for them (vv. 8-9), showing his worth. What are some ways we can seek to be regularly mindful of and grateful for Jesus' loving sacrifice for us?9. A life of extravagant love for Jesus is a life that will not look “normal”; it will be markedly different from the lives of those around us. How might our acts of love for Christ (e.g. - extravagant uses of our time, energy, money) point those who don't know Jesus in our lives to the worth of Christ? Prayer

Can you share a time when you felt that connection with Jesus? - Read Mark 8:27: - What big questions do you think Jesus asks us today? How do you respond to those questions? - What does it mean to you to be a disciple or an apprentice of Jesus? How does that shape your daily life? - How can we practice the idea of learning through action in our faith? Can you share an example? - What are some practical ways we can embrace our journey with Jesus instead of waiting to "arrive"? - What do you hope to discover or experience as we pay attention to Jesus on the way together?
Jesus called us to be watchful ( Read Mark 13:35-37), this includes being watchful over our lives. The Lord might not reveal all to you at once; but He doesn't want you to be clueless concerning His storyline for your life. Knowing is key to remaining encouraged and proactive in each season. This is why no matter what you might be facing, revisiting your history with God and His plans, helps you stand in faith, until the rest of the journey unfolds. Everything you're believing for, whether it be a job, financial blessings, a home, job , spouse or whatever it might be, can be found and will be found as you're aligning with God and His timing for your life. Introduction A new creation! I'm Malcolm Cox. Welcome to this series on ‘A new creation'. The premise of this series is that God is loving us into spiritual character growth. Jesus is the inspiration for that spiritual character. We are being transformed into his likeness (2 Corinthians 3.18). How does this happen? A key aspect is following Jesus and living as a disciple. Following Jesus changes us, and those changes help us follow him. Today, some thoughts on learning Jesus' lifestyle. Jesus was busy Was Jesus busy? Well, yes, of course. He had so much to do in the three years of his ministry. However, we must blend his intensity of focus with his intimacy with God. Consider the first and second parts of Mark 6.31. He worked hard, and his followers worked hard. So much so that he got hungry, thirsty and tired. However, he recognised that his followers needed refreshment (see also John 4.6). Jesus was not busy Jesus was as busy as he could be, but no busier than his times of refreshment with God could enable. Take the opening of Mark's gospel. He goes from spending time with the Spirit, to calling disciples to follow, healing many and then getting up early to pray. Read Mark 1.35-37 His followers had to hunt for him! In other words, he was determined not to be disturbed until the right time. Jesus' behaviour did not make sense to his followers, but his healthy rhythms of spiritual disciplines gave him the strength and insight to be the person of impact that he was. REFLECTION QUESTIONS: What did Jesus do in his private life that enabled him to be who he was in his public life? How does his example inform your choices of how to use your time and energy? Conclusion Our practices off-screen prepare us for being on-stage. What will you practice this week that might make people have to hunt for you and that might confuse them, but that will fill you with kingdom strength as you follow Jesus? Next time, we will explore learning to love what Jesus loves. Your brother, Malcolm Please add your comments on this week's topic. We learn best when we learn in community. The Republican National Convention concluded last week. We heard from Trump's VP nominee, JD Vance, and we heard from Donald Trump for the first time since the assassination attempt. Trump pushed lie after lie during his speech. No surprise. The real question is whether or not Joe Biden can beat him. Over the course of these four weeks Bill Crowder leads the group in thinking through the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), and explores some elements that could help our understanding of these important accounts as we read and study them. The more we comprehend the settings of these witnesses to the life and work of Jesus, the more accessible his story becomes to us. Join the Discover the Word group as they have this important discussion about how to read the Gospels so we understand--not misunderstand--the life of Jesus. WAYS TO LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE:
The word “serve” isn't always popular in our culture, unless it is focused upon self. The whole idea of serving another is often lost on us in society today. However, as followers of Jesus, we are called to serve with a heart and attitude that looks like Jesus. AND—Eric and Gena believe that the heart to serve should always start at home! Serving is simply about making another person's life better—even at home! Read Mark 10:45 and Phillippians 2: 3-8 and then tune in for this discussion.

Brian Priebe | Executive Pastor | May 5, 2024 Are you praying for things that only God can do? Mark 8:27-29a (NIV) Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” John 5:16-18 (NIV) John 8:54-59 (NIV) John 10:30-33 (NIV) John 20:26-29(NIV) Matthew 16:16 (NIV) CS Lewis’ Trilema from Mere Christianity:“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him (Jesus): I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” Acts 12:15-16 (NIV) Psalm 1:2-3 (NIV) Are you praying for things that only God can do?Is your faith growing? Is loving others your priority? Reflection Questions: Read John 5:16-18, 8:54-59, 10:30-33 and 20:26-29. What stands out as you look at passages that claim Jesus' divinity?Read Mark 8:27-29 and Matt 16:13-16. What are the ways you would answer Jesus' question, 'Who do you say I am?’In light of Jesus' divinity, Are you praying for things that only God can do? Why or why not? What things could you be praying for that would fit that description? In light of Jesus' divinity, Is your faith growing? Why or why not? What things could you be doing that could help your faith grow?In light of Jesus' divinity, Is loving others your priority? Why or why not? What things could you be doing that would make loving others your priority?
