Money isn't just a financial issue it's a heart issue. In this message, we explore why many of us struggle to steward money biblically: because no one taught us, because it's how we cope with stress, and because money has become an idol. Scripture gives us a better way: Put God first, keep the Kingdom 2nd , prioritize your needs 3rd, meet the needs of others 4th , plan for the future 5th, and address your wants last. As Matthew 6:21 reminds us, where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. This is a battle Satan loves but your heart is worth fighting for.

Does fear hold you back from the gifts of the Spirit? Do you care more about what people think of you or what God thinks? Rabbi Schneider shares that the same gifts that Jesus used are still ours today. The same annointing that was on Jesus is on us also. Believe God for more and break out of having a passive spirit that worries about what people think rather than what God thinks. God will open greater revelation, but we have to be bold in our faith. Speak faith to doubt. Ask God to help you to have more faith. Put God first. Pascal said there is a God-shaped hole within us. If we try to fill it with anything else. That's at the heart of the first two commandments. Put God first, yes. But there's also a not-so-common application to do with spiritual war -- mostly because we misunderstand the word "gods." This sermon (also released as a podcast episode) unpacks Exodus 20:1-6.

Radical, Uncomfortable Faith // Having the Sort of Faith That Conquers the World, Part 2

You know, I wish I could tell you that God is primarily concerned about our comfort and convenience, but that's just not true. He's much more interested in our character and maturity and so He often calls us into radical, uncomfortable faith.   Radical faith Have you ever felt God asking you to do something that is so radical so counter-intuitive that you felt that you were going mad? I have on more than one occasion, and as I speak with great men and women of God as I interview them as I meet them and get to know some of the giants of faith that I go to church with, that I work with, here's what I've discovered listening to their stories. The more open we are to God the more we spend time in prayer, the more we take God's word to heart as though it's true and as though it's actually meant for us, the more God asks us to do crazy things. I have a dear friend who against every personal desire and aspiration that he had for himself and his family, moved across the other side of the world to take on a job for years that God had called him to do. Now most days were a struggle, most days he was homesick, most days he didn't really understand why God had called him into that place. But four years on, as he was heading back home again, can I tell you the impact that his presences, his skills, his wisdom, his insight and energy and persona has had, not just on the organisation that he worked for but in the lives of tens of thousands of people that organisation ministers to, is just enormous. And the more we listen to God, the more we find Him asking us to do crazy things. Radical things, things we wouldn't consider doing if it was left up to us. And that's exactly what happened to Noah. We're looking today again at faith in this series I've called simply, "Having the Sort of Faith that Conquers the World". It's a phrase you find a lot throughout the bible and no where more so than in the New Testament book of Hebrews, chapter 11. It's a chapter that talks a lot about faith, the sort of faith we need to make it through the trials and the temptations of life. The sort of faith we need to see the big picture, to get life into perspective. The sort of faith that we need to please God, because without faith, without the assurance of things we hope for and the rock solid of evidence of faith in our hearts of the things we can't yet see. It's completely impossible to please God. Now, I want you to put yourself for a moment in Noah's shoes. You're living a happy life. Okay, the world around you is a bit corrupt but there is nothing new or surprising about that. You, your wife, your family, you're having a great little life there and God says to you, "Hey Noah, I know you live miles and miles and miles away from the nearest lake or ocean, but I want you to build a hulking great big boat. A big one! We're going to call it an ark because I'm going to flood the world, kill everyone, and you and your family and two of every species of animal are going to be the only ones that survive. So get to it. Start building this boat." Now you and I know what happened. We know how the story turns out. But, poor old Noah had none of the benefits of the 20/20 hindsight that you and I have. He didn't even have the Bible that we have to believe in God through, he'd never even heard of Jesus. All he knew was that this God came along and told him to build a boat in the middle of nowhere. Talk about feeling stupid. Imagine going home to the little misses that night and she asks, "How was work Noah?" "Well? I was chatting with God and we've come up with this great plan, we are going to build a boat. A big one! An ark!" She says, "A boat? Are you crazy?" And not just the little misses, imagine what the neighbours had to say? "Hey have you seen what Noah's up to? He's really flipped his lid this time. He's building, wait for it … an ark!" "Nah, not even Noah's that crazy!" "Yeah, really an ark, 300 cubits long!" The laughter, the ridicule that must have gone on down at the local pub each night as Noah and his sons built that ark! What does God tell us in Hebrews chapter 11 about this? What's God's summation of Noah's craziness? Look verse 7: By faith, Noah warned by God about events yet unseen, respected the warning and built an ark to save his household. By this he condemned the world and became an air to the righteousness that is in accordance with faith. What Noah needed to do this extreme thing was extreme faith, and he yielded extreme results. I've had some times in my life when God has called me to do the craziest things. "Berni … leave your secure high paying consulting career and become involved in this media ministry that's stopped doing what is meant to be doing. That's almost broke and ready to shut it's doors! Berni, go and start broadcasting your Australia programs in Africa when there was only one guy I even knew in Africa! Berni going and hire a man in India to start broadcasting your programs over there, even though there isn't a single door open to start doing what I'm calling you to do! Berni…." Yeah ok, today it's a thousand radio stations airing these programs, today its millions of listeners each week, today it seems like the obvious thing to have done. But each time God called me to do something crazy … it was just that dead set crazy. Maybe not as crazy as Noah's gig, but that didn't help me at the time. So when was the last time God called you to do something crazy? Something happens in that place that I can't quite explain. There are many times that I've listened to sage advice from mature men and women around me and that's been the right thing to do. But at those major turning points, the truly crazy ones, there's been a pull in my heart from God that was as scary as it was unmistakable. And at those turning points, the "Noah" points, I've pretty much had to ignore the sage advice that I was getting from the people that I trusted and just go with the call in my heart. At those times it's been scary and at those times I've made some mistakes. Not everything always worked out the way that I'd planned it in my head. We didn't always get everything right the first time. Things didn't always happen as quickly as I wanted them to happen. It was 8 years from when I felt the call to go and tell people about Jesus until I took on the role that I'm doing now. It was almost 3 years between when we hired that wonderful man in India and when God actually opened the doors to a weekly radio audience on a major secular network of 30 million people each week. It never felt much like faith, it was uncertain, it was murky, it was unclear, but often when with this dream in our hearts, and with a certain reality that we'd rather look like idiots, that we'd rather fall flat on our faces and fail, rather than miss out on what God was doing. At times I'm prepared to admit to the people around me, that I looked like an idiot. But then, so did Noah. And the God that Noah served and the God that I serve and the God that you serve, never ever chastises us for having too much faith. Sometimes, not everyday, but sometimes faith is doing scary crazy, counter-intuitive things that God calls us to do: By faith Noah, warned by God about events as yet unseen, respected that warning and built an ark to save his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir to the righteousness that is in accordance with that faith. So what are you waiting for?   Uncomfortable faith We've been chatting over these past few weeks about faith, not in a theoretic sense but in a "rubber hits the road" sense. Because faith is that thing we need to get through the things that we can't handle on our own. Faith is what we need to move that great big obstacle that's blocking our way when its way to big for us to climb over, or crash through or walk around. Faith is what we need to overcome that one nagging sin in our lives that keeps on coming back to rob us of the joy and peace that Jesus came to give us. And faith is what we need to go and do the difficult things that God sometimes calls us to do. The inconvenient things, the uncomfortable things, the things we rather not have to do thanks very much Lord. So that's the sort of faith we're going to chat about right now – uncomfortable faith – because no one ever had an impact in this world by playing it safe right? When Jesus calls us into a place to make a difference in someone's life, it's often because that persons life is, well, a bit of a mess and it's going to hurt us to have to be in that place with that person. When Jesus calls us out of our nice safe comfortable existence to go and do something for him, I can guarantee you it's not going to be convenient and it's not going to be comfortable. It requires faith. People sometimes ask me, "Berni why is it that even though I believe in Jesus, I don't know, somehow it doesn't feel real. There's no passion, there's no fire. There's no excitement." And my response is always the same. I ask them two questions. Question 1: How much time do you spend quietly each day alone with Jesus, with the door closed and the bible open? Question 2: What are you doing with your faith? How are you living it out? Now Question 1 is really important because, unless we're spending that time alone with Jesus each day, growing in a dynamic relationship with Him, well, shazam shazam there's not going to be much of a relationship. But today I want to focus on Question 2, What are you doing with your faith? And when I meet someone who has that vague unsettled feeling about their faith, the sense there should be something more, there should be power, there should be impact, I can almost guarantee you that in effect they're a spiritual couch potato. And by that I mean, they're not living out their faith. They're not getting out there and making a difference in this world, taking risks, putting it all on the line for Jesus. And just like someone who spends their life sitting on the sofa, channel surfing cable TV, drinking soft drinks, eating chips is going to end up feeling lethargic, the Christian who isn't exercising their faith is going to feel precisely the same. Don't believe me? Well, it's exactly what the Bible tells us. In James chapter 2 verse 26 says: For as just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead. So as we come to look at faith again today, we're going to do so from the perspective of Abraham, a man who was called out of the comfort of his ancestral home in Ur, which is around about where modern day Bagdad is today, have a listen. Hebrews chapter 11, beginning at verse 8: By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he set out not knowing were he was going. By faith, he stayed for a time in the land which had been promised to him, as in a foreign land living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob who where the airs with him of that same promise. But he looked forward to the city which had foundations, who's architect and builder is God. By faith, he received the power of procreation. Even though he was too old and Sarah herself was baron. Because he considered him faithful who had promised, therefore from one person and this one as good as dead descendants were born. As many as the stars of heaven and innumerable as the grains of the sand by the sea shore. Now, perhaps you remember that story. Abraham is the father of Israel the nation. He and his wife Sarah in their mid seventies were childless, a source of great anguish and shame that equated God's blessing with having lots of children and having your own land to live in. And so what was God's solution? To promise Abraham and Sarah many, many of descendants if only they'll leave their safe and comfortable ancestral home behind and go out on a journal thought the wilderness, though all sorts of strange and weird and wonderful places only God knows where. A familiar story to many I suppose. And yet what we often miss is the context, let me say it again the definition of God's blessing in that time and in that culture – in fact you see it over and over again in the Old Testament – is firstly that you had lots of children. And secondly you own your own land to live in. If you had both of those things, then you were considered to be blessed of God. The more children, the more land you had, the more quiet openly God was in the business of blessing you. But if you didn't have them, then you were considered to be cursed of God. Obviously you'd done something wrong. Obviously you must have been a bad person. That was the thinking. Now Abraham, was a wealthy man. He had lots of flocks of animals which means he had a lot of land. So when God called him out of that and onto his journey with this promise of many children, do you see what God was asking him to do? God was asking Abraham to give up that one half of the blessing that he already did have, in order to get the other half, which was lots of descendants. And what made this so crazy was that he and his wife were in their seventies, way pass the age where Sarah could bare children. Abraham and Sarah had to let go of this blessing and step out in faith, God knows where, in order to get that blessing. My friend that is so often how God works. So long as we think our lives are about being comfortable and safe, no risks, no need for faith, no need to rely on God for food and shelter and provision. So long as we make our comfort and our safety the priority, our faith is going to be dead. God's main aim isn't to make you and me comfortable; His main aim is to grow our character, by making us part of his plan, to touch and reach a lost and hurting world with His love. God's plan isn't that we should have a huge superannuation or pension fund so that we can spend our retirement indulging our senses in food and travel and luxuries and relaxation. His plan is to use us to reach out to our neighbour with His mercy and grace and love. And so the solution for the spiritual couch potato … the answer to getting rid of that lethargy and bringing a new vigour and anticipation to our faith? It's always the same. The one who would live a vibrant exciting faith, a life where the power of God is manifest before their very eyes, is the one who goes to God and pleads: Lord show me where you want me to go! Want to you want me to do? What sacrifices do you want me make? What risks do you want me to take so that the name of Jesus would be lifted up in this world. Oh Lord wherever you call me, and whatever it will cost me, I want to go! Give me the courage, fill me with your spirit. Show me where and how and when I can loose my life for you dear Jesus in order that I might find it. Friends, start praying prayers like that one, and I guarantee you that God won't take long to answer you. I guarantee you that before you know it you'll be at a place where you see God's power in action because frankly without it, you'd be in trouble!   Ditching comfort and convenience God's word stands in such contrast to our hopes and our desires and our ambitions for comfort and convenience doesn't it? Yes God is a God of outrageous blessing, but it's a blessing that follows along behind our obedience to Him. You and I want to put the cart before the horse, so often! Because we've been taught over and over again that it's all about us. I come first. I'm the most important one. You know my parents immigrated to Australia from Europe just after World War 2. They brought us into this world, in this great new land of opportunity that they made their home. This land of freedom and of plenty that embraced them as new migrants, and what they wanted for my sister and myself was a better life than the one that they'd had. They'd worked so hard, they'd sacrificed so much so that we could have a great education, so that we could learn and study and grow and have all the things that they missed out on during that terrible world war. But the easiest thing for me as a recipient of their sacrifice, was to take all their serving of me, and misinterpret it to mean that it's all about me. But that is not what they meant at all! I mean, they taught me a very strong work ethic. But because I had parents who loved me and sacrificed for me the natural selfishness that we all have, that selfishness that was in me, twisted that around and so I lived most of my early adulthood in this belief that it truly was, all about me! In fact, the term "the me generation" was invented for my generation – The Baby Boomers. We were all pretty much like that. And that mistake is exactly the mistake that so many times we make as we misinterpret the love and the grace and the blessing of God in our lives. Jesus talked about this very thing, our tendencies to put the cart before the horse; to put our comfort and convenience before the will of God in our lives. Have a listen to what he said. There's every chance you're quite familiar with this passage. He was talking about our natural desires for enough food to eat and clothes to wear and all those physical needs that we seem to worry so much about. He was saying, "Look, don't worry about those things. Your father in heaven knows everything you need. And you're worth so much to Him, of course He's going to provide all your needs!" And the punch line, the executive summary of all that, went something like this. Mathew chapter 6, beginning at verse 33: Jesus said, look don't worry about these things, instead strive first for the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things will be given unto you as well. In other words, put God first. Put God's will first. But obedience to God first, sacrifice first, follow Him where He calls us first, and all those other things which by the way, aren't the main things, they'll follow along behind as surely as night follows day. Friend, He's not saying here that we shouldn't have our needs met, He's not saying we shouldn't have clothing or food, or shelter, Jesus is simply saying, "people get your priorities right". And getting our priorities right, putting Him first, takes faith. It does! When our funds are limited, and running low, it takes faith to take the first fruits of our income and give them to God to support his work. When there's been a global financial crisis, it takes faith to step out and use all our resources for the glory of God. When people are being critical when their being obnoxious, you know something … it takes faith to love them with the love which Jesus loved us. It takes faith to forgive them; it takes faith to hold them. And when it's hurting like hell, when the pain of our sacrifice for Jesus is more than we really want to take, it takes faith to say, "Father, not my will but let your will be done." Exactly what Jesus did for you and me in that garden called Gethsemane just before He was handed over to be nailed to that terrible, terrible Cross. My friend, Jesus isn't looking just for believers He's looking for disciples. He's looking for men, women and children who are prepared to lay down their lives and take up their cross each day to follow Him. He's looking for men, women and children who aren't in the business of saving their own skins for those who'll surely loose it, but who are in the business of laying down their lives for Him by faith, knowing that that's how they'll discover real life. By faith. Strive ye first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, get your priorities right. Put God first and all these other things will be given to you as well. You know why it takes faith? Because at the very time it feels like we're loosing something, at the time it feels like we're in a dangerous place, at the time I feels unfair, at the time it hurts, but truly I tell you, when we take up our cross, when we follow after Jesus with our cross on our shoulder, prepared to lay down our lives, that's when we discover true satisfaction. I think sometimes we spend way too much effort standing up for our rights so that we forget that we should be laying down our lives for Jesus. May God bless you as you live out your faith.

When we think of the infinite wisdom of God and we consider our finite thinking about God, we should be extremely careful to even think of limiting what he's capable of doing. Just because you don't understand something, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it don't mean that it's not happening around you. Remember this, the Spirit is what created the physical, that being the case, heck there is spiritual warfare going on around you at all times to preserve your soul, that you have no clue and the only thing that separate you from being lost or saved is your decision the one that decide to follow Christ and the one that does not. The devil knows this better than anybody because when he was in the garden. He plotting this he knew that man was like God, and unless man would sin, he'd have no power over man. Now because God gave man a choice the devil said that's my only way to get him. To have him rebel against God, to sin, to choose against God's will; because that's how he Lucifer himself became Satan. He rebel against God and His will. God kick him and those 1/3 rebellious angels out of heaven who willfully chose against God's will as iniquity was found in him, therefore the archangel Michael and God's 2/3 good angels kick them out of heaven. Now ever since, he's been on this Earth, his desire is to undo or destroy anything that has to do with God. So brothers & sisters choose not to let him do that to you.Contact: heavensprayerlink.com, we love to pray with you, God bless you.

Remember when Jesus said he could do not much work in his home town because the people thought they knew him and wouldn't believe in him. as the scripture says: "Jesus said unto them a prophet is not without honor, but it is own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid hands up on a few sick folk, and heal them." (Mark 6:4, 5) read it. You see His family and friends thought they knew him and they're boxed him in, and limited their blessings too; his own family. Folks limit the power of God by unbelief. So if you ever want to know why you don't see the power of God working in your life, you might want to check yourself, get out the way, step out of your comfort zone, so the Word of God can speak to you. It's you yourself who's blocking your blessing. You're limiting the things that God can do in your life, by unbelief therefore get out of your own way and let the power of God's Word initiate itself in your spirit and heal and bless and do the those miraculous things that God do best. The devil learned quick how he could limit God's power here on earth is through us tampering with our beliefs, having us to doubt/distrust God. Sometime I sound like I'm preaching to myself you know, because I'm just like you. I get in my own way, I distrust God at times and then I wonder why I don't see the miracles of God. Then I think to myself, could it be something I'm doing or said, that's blocking my blessing; you better believe it is because the devil knows the moment you start trusting and obeying God is when all heaven's power and blessings breaks loose.Contact: heavensprayerlink.com, we love to pray with you, God bless you.

Put God between yourself and the foe"There is none like you to help." 2Ch 14:11 ESVFaced with an enemy he couldn't conquer on his own, King Asa prayed, "Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us...we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you! The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah" (vv. 11-12 NIV). F. B. Meyer writes: "Remind God of his entire responsibility. 'There is none like thee to help! The odds against Asa were enormous. There were a million men in arms...beside three hundred chariots. It seemed impossible to hold his own against that vast multitude. There were no allies who would come to his help: his only hope therefore was in God. There was none beside to help. It may be that your difficulties have been allowed to come to so alarming a pitch that you may be compelled to renounce all creature aid, to which in lesser trials you have had recourse, and cast yourself back on your Almighty friend. Put God between yourself and the foe. To Asa's faith, Jehovah seemed to stand between the might of Zerah and himself, as one who had no strength. Nor was he mistaken...the Ethiopians were destroyed before the Lord, and before His host, as though celestial combatants flung themselves against the foe on Israel's behalf...Our God is Jehovah of Hosts, who can summon unexpected reinforcements at any moment to the aid of his people. Believe that He is there between you and your difficulty, and what baffles you will flee before Him as clouds before the gale."Put God between yourself and the foe An enemy you can't conquer on your own.Share This DevotionalSend us a textSupport the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!

Saturday, 25 January 2025   But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33   “And you, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and these all – it will be added to you” (CG).   In the previous verse, Jesus noted that the heavenly Father knows all the things we need. Therefore, He next says, “And you, seek first the kingdom of God.”   It should be noted that some manuscripts do not include the words tou theou (the God, indicating “of God”). Whether they are original or not, they are to be understood because of the surrounding context of what Jesus is explaining.   To understand what “kingdom” Jesus is speaking of, refer to the comments on Matthew 6:10 where Jesus said, “Your kingdom come.” The term kingdom is used to apply to different things within the dispensations God has set forth in the plan of redemption. What He is speaking of is sufficiently explained in that commentary. Along with seeking the kingdom of God, Jesus next says, “and His righteousness.”   This would correspond to the next words of Jesus in Matthew 6:10, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Seeking God's righteousness is to seek that His will is done at all times in our lives before Him.   The disciples were instructed on prayer. Jesus then explained the things His prayer detailed. For example, saying, “And do not lead us into temptation,” is explained through Jesus' examples concerning treasures on earth. If our treasures are in heaven, we will not be led into temptation over earthly things.   As such, what Jesus is now saying is a summary of everything He has explained since the giving of the Lord's prayer. Praying for the will of God to be done and for the coming of His kingdom was noted in Matthew 6:10. It was then plainly expressed in the closing words “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.”   The intervening words since then have not been a lot of new and disconnected thoughts. Rather, they have been helping us understand what it means when the Lord's Prayer is spoken. Therefore, in seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, Jesus next says, “and these all – it will be added to you.”   Notice how Jesus' words speak of the plural, these all, and then are summed up in the singular, it. It is an indication that the plural/singular words of the previous verse are probably the correct textual rendering. Jesus is taking plural concepts and then referring to them as a single unit.   Jesus assures His disciples that the things they need will not be kept out of reach when people put God first. Rather, the things they need will find their proper place in their lives.   Life application: Notice how the words of Jesus here actually dispel the notion that having wealth is somehow inappropriate. How often has it been seen that people focus too heavily on certain words while ignoring the greater context.   By telling His disciples to not worry about their lives in regard to food, drink, and clothing, people assume that Jesus is saying that we should not possess such things. This seems bolstered by His words that say, “For after all these, the Gentiles seek.” If the Gentiles seeking them is stated in a negative way, then it must be that Jesus is saying, “Get rid of all your stuff!”   With that, they quit their jobs and join a monastery, or they promise themselves to give away everything they have earned, dying without a penny left in the bank, as if they are only responsible with each week's paycheck by doing this.   Such an attitude is dispelled throughout the Bible where godly people are seen to have great wealth, such as Job and David. Good men are also noted as saving even for their grandchildren (Proverbs 13:33). But the attitude is also dispelled by Jesus's word of this verse.   Jesus doesn't tell them to not have these things. Rather, He is speaking of priorities. Put God first, and God will still give them these things. A person will not be without them, but the possessions will be in the right place in one's life.   Be sure to take the entire context of what is being said into consideration. Who is speaking, when and where is the person speaking, who is being spoken to, etc. From there, consider the rest of the words as they are presented without over-fixating on a single thought that will then result in a faulty conclusion about the overall presentation. This is the responsible way of looking at all things in Scripture.   Lord God, help us to always put You first in our lives. It is easy to get misdirected with the things of life that crop up and distract us. We know that it is right to seek You, Your kingdom, and Your righteousness first. May we do so, to Your glory. Amen.

If they are thirsty, I am happy to replenish their cups with a drink. Every time I do I think of my Heavenly Father who always provides for me as well. If we are in need, He will provide. You might be tempted to be think back to the pat year and wonder why God didn’t provide for you. Maybe there was no healing, or extra money, or closure. Maybe there are things in your l life that you think you need and they are not there. It is tempting to think that God’s provision is lacking. Matthew 6:26-34 is a great reminder from Jesus that God will always provide. In this passage Jesus says that God provides for even the sparrows, which were the most insignificant birds. Why would God not provide for His children, whom He loves? Jesus makes the case that if we need it, God will provide it! He says, “For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” Many times we need things from other people but they do not follow through or they fail to do the things we need them to do. God is not like that. He knows what we need. Not only that, He provides for it. What kinds of things does God provide for us? The Bible is filled with promises of God’s provision. Isaiah 41:10 - God provides help and strength. When we fear the future it is hard to believe that we will be able to endure it. God promises that He will help us, no matter what. John 16:33 & Isaiah 26:3 - God provides peace. When our minds are fixed and steady, thinking about God, God provides peace. We will have trouble, but Jesus has overcome the worst enemy: death, so we can have peace no matter what we face. Psalm 32:8 - God provides instruction. God will teach us! As we study and read the Bible God promises to provide us with the guidance we need to live and obey Him. Deuteronomy 31:8 & Hebrews 13:5 - God provides His presence. Over and over again, in the Old and New Testament God promises to be with us. He will never leave us. Matthew 7:11 - God provides answers to prayers. In the very next chapter of Matthew Jesus is still talking about provision but this time it is how God answers prayers. God is giving us good gifts and prayer is one way to see those from God. Philippians 4:19 - God provides contentment when we give. The context of this verse Paul telling the Philippines that God has always given him what he needed but God would do the same for them. Why? Because they were givers! In Philippians 4:10-18 Paul says that because of their gifts to him and the churches God would give them what they needed. 1 Corinthians 10:13 - God provides escape from temptation. When we are tempted to sin, we can trust that God will always provide a way out of the temptation. We are no longer slaves to sin. 2 Corinthians 9:8 - God provides grace. No matter what struggle or trial we face God provides the grace to help us. Whether we need forgiveness for sins, or comfort from pain, God provides the grace for us. 2 Peter 3:13 - God will provide a heavenly home. God has promised to take us to heaven and give us a place in His kingdom. We are promised that one day we will live with Him and worship Him forever. James 5:15 - God provides forgiveness. God promises to provide forgiveness. No past sin is too big or too bad for God not to forgive. Jesus’ death on the cross is sufficient and we can trust God will forgive us. John 14:26 - God provides the Holy Spirit. As Jesus was leaving this earth and getting ready to die on the cross, He promised that the “helper” would come. This is the Holy Spirit. We have this 3rd Person of the Trinity to guide us, teach us, and comfort us. Matthew 11:29-30 - God provides rest. We might be weary and limping into this new year, but God says that when we come to Him He will give us rest. In Matthew Jesus gives us something to do while we wait on God to fulfill His promises. He says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) All the things we need will be provided for us, all we need to do is seek God! Put God first in our lives because it is then we have contentment and are able to see God’s provision. ‘And it is one of King David's descendants, Jesus, who is God's promised Savior of Israel!' (Acts 13:23 NLT) The shadow of the cross lay over the beauty of the first Christmas night. It was there from the very beginning. That is why red is the color of Christmas. It isn't because Santa wears red or that we sometimes wrap our gifts in red. Red is the color of Christmas, because red is the color of the blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross. That is what Jesus came to do. He went voluntarily to the cross. Of course, He could have gotten out of it if He had chosen to, but Jesus laid down His life for us. Jesus did not come so that we could go to endless Christmas events. He did not come to teach everyone how to be good or to love their neighbors, although these are good things to do. To the point, Jesus came to die an agonizing death and to ransom us from an eternal death sentence. The story of Christmas doesn't begin with the words “once upon a time,” though it has all the majesty and the magic of the greatest fairy tale you've ever heard. It has shepherds, angels, wise men from the East, and a bright, shining star. But it's a real story pinpointed specifically in time. Luke begins the Christmas story by telling us who is in power and what was going on at that particular moment in history. Luke was a physician by trade, and he was a stickler for detail. Everything in the world was in place for the arrival of the Messiah. The Bible says, “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children” (Galatians 4:4–5 NLT). When Christmas arrives and the gifts are opened, some of us will be very excited, and some of us will be a little disappointed. That's because Christmas can't deliver on its promises. Only Christ can. What is Christmas at its best? At its best it is gathering with family and friends and perhaps enjoying a meal together. (And of course, worshipping together is one of the greatest things we could do on Christmas.) But these are glimpses of things to come. In many ways, Christmas is a promise. It's a glimpse of something greater. It's a promise that has not been fully kept because it's really not about Christmas; it's about Christ. That is what we're really longing for—not Christmas but Christ; not merriment, but the Messiah; not goodwill, but God himself. Put God first, not last. Don't work Him into your busy schedule. Rather, put Him first in all things. Jesus won't force His way into your life, but He would love to come and be a part of it. If you will seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness in everything you do, it will change everything about your life. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Send us a textI remember when I first made Jesus the Lord of my life, I was on fire for God. Nobody was going to stop me from going all in. However, I had a problem. I didn't know what it looked like to actually go all in with God. Nobody showed me how to practically live out the transformation God had performed in my life as a 17 year old.  I would see other teens my age who were Christians, but most if not all of them were lacking that spark…that fire for the Lord. I even tried going to a youth ministry my senior year of high school, but it almost seemed like a joke. I couldn't quite understand why it seemed like these Christians didn't even care. The youth pastor would start to teach on a topic, but the message would be overrun by teens making a joke out of it….the youth pastor did nothing but play along. Needless to say, I didn't go back to that youth ministry often.  I didn't quite understand how I was supposed to practically walk out my Christian life when I didn't even see other Christian teens walking it out. Was I supposed to just pretend this life change with Jesus didn't happen…because it did and it was very real.  So, how do we put God first in our life. Practically, what does that look like?  1.   Put God first in your day. Create the first bit of the morning to spend with God. If you have been struggling with reading the Bible every day, with spending time in prayer every day, with taking time to worship every day, I encourage you to do the First 15. What does 5 minutes in the Bible look like? I encourage you to start in the book of John. In most versions of the Bible, you will notice that the chapters are split up into sections. For example, with the New King James version of the Bible, John 1 is split up into seven sections. The first section's title is called, “The Eternal Word" and it's 5 verses long. Read through the whole section one time through, go back through it a second time and right down or underline anything that stands out to you. Then ask God, “Lord, what do you want me to know about this passage? What do you want me to do?” Write it down and take action.  Next is 5 minutes in prayer. Take time to talk to God, just like you would your best friend, about what's coming up that day. Ask Him for wisdom to get through whatever it is you have going on. He so loves you and cares about even the smallest of details.  Then the last 5 minutes is spent in worship. Worship is a response to God's goodness. Take 5 minutes and thank God for the good things He's doing in your life.  2.    Write out the key areas of your life and ask God, “Lord, will you show me how to put you first in every area of my life. Find strength in stillness by embracing weakness and wisdom in a busy world | with Gretchen Saffles

In our bustling, fast-paced world, the concept of stillness can often seem alien, if not downright impossible. But as we learn from Gretchen Saffles, embracing stillness and our weaknesses can bring us closer to God and foster a deeper sense of inner peace. Gretchen and Stephanie discuss the challenge of being still and overcoming the need for constant productivity. Advised by her Christian counselor to be still before the Lord for just one minute, Gretchen discovered this simple exercise to be remarkably challenging, due to her ingrained belief in the importance of constant productivity. She realized that her busy life and the demands of various activities had clouded her mind and distanced her from a genuine relationship with God. Through this journey, she learned that stillness and simplicity are not just luxuries, but essential spiritual disciplines. Taking time to be still before the Lord is an act of submission, a recognition that God is in control. Unlike some forms of secular meditation, which emphasize emptying the mind, biblical meditation involves filling the mind with God's truths. Gretchen found Christ in this practice, which helped her redirect her focus from worldly anxieties to divine wisdom. Gretchen is learning to take a slow, reflective approach to reading Scripture, often meditating on a single verse or passage for an extended period. This method allows her to absorb the Word deeply and apply it practically in her life. Currently, she is reading the Bible chronologically, finding fresh insights in the Beatitudes. Stephanie and Gretchan talk about embracing weakness as strength, and finding God's power in our weak moments.  In a culture that idolizes strength and self-reliance, embracing weakness can seem counterintuitive. Yet Gretchen and Stephanie both emphasize that true Christian strength shines brightest in our moments of weakness. They cite biblical examples like Moses and Paul, whose infirmities highlighted God's power and grace. This theology of suffering is rooted deeply in scripture, reminding us that sharing in Christ's sufferings leads to a more intimate relationship with God. Philippians 3:10 encapsulates this truth: knowing Christ through both the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings brings us closer to Him. Gretchen shares a poignant anecdote about her grandmother, who lived with severe rheumatoid arthritis. Despite immense physical pain, her grandmother's life radiated God's power, demonstrating that His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Wisdom is a treasure for life, made possible through a slow, meditative approach to Scripture reading. Gretchen's insights into wisdom reveal it as a treasure that points to Christ, wisdom personified. Her slow, meditative approach to reading Scripture allows time for absorption and contemplation, fostering a deeper connection with God's Word. This method reinforces the importance of letting the Holy Spirit guide our understanding of Scripture. Gretchen attributes much of her wisdom and love for the book of Proverbs to her mother. Her upbringing in a busy ministry home showed her that all good works should stem from a profound relationship with God, not just from a sense of duty. “Soul Scrubbing” is the work of the Holy Spirit, allowing the Word to cleanse and renew us. Gretchen uses the metaphor of "soul scrubbing" to describe how the Holy Spirit uses the Word to cleanse our minds and souls. This practice involves more than just a cursory reading of Scripture. It calls for a deep dive into God's truths, allowing them to renew and transform us. She has been focusing on meditating on God's love, recently finding new significance in John 3:16. Recognizing the necessity of mental, physical, and spiritual rest, she strives to rest in God's love, which fosters deeper intimacy with Him. For those feeling overwhelmed by life's demands, Saffles's book "Word Over World" offers a heartfelt guide to rediscovering intimacy with God. It's a reminder that even in our busiest moments, God's love and wisdom are always within reach, waiting for us in the stillness. MORE ABOUT "WORD OVER WORLD" In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) When you think about your life and what you value, what would you put first? When you read God's Word, are you doing so out of duty or out of a desire to delight in your Savior? When all we give Jesus is our leftovers, fear overwhelms our peace and worry clouds our vision. Gretchen Saffles knows what it's like to struggle to put Jesus first daily. During a season of spiritual discouragement, she learned that pursuing God is ultimately not a self-help journey, but rather it's a Spirit-led surrender. This discovery led her to a simple phrase that helped her reframe how she desired to spend her time, start her days, and shape her mindset: Word before World. This three-word statement has become her morning manifesto, her afternoon anthem, and her evening comfort. When she practiced looking first to Jesus, she realized that while God's Word never changes, yet it always changes us. In Word before World you'll discover ways to: Conquer the daily distractions that get in the way of time with God Develop a daily rhythm of seeking Jesus Set aside your phone, lists, and plans in order to seek direction and nourishment in God's Word instead Transform your worldview, schedule, dreams, and desires to align with God's purpose for your life. Cultivate a deep love for God in this 100-day devotional journey to experience God's faithfulness and goodness.
