I spoke in September about the 2 self's we all have. Well, since then, I have done quite a bit of research into this topic and have learned a lot from the famous psychologist Carl Jung. In his works, he talks a lot about the Persona and the Shadow. The 2 sides we all have. What I have found most interesting is the fact that the integration of the two is what makes man so powerful. In this episode, I talk about the shadow integration work I have been doing and why it is important to do the same. Ask yourself a question: are you playing to win OR are you playing not to lose? I would venture to say you probably think you are playing to win but when you really analyze your actions, you are playing not to lose. Doing so is the biggest detriment to the success of an entrepreneur. If you want to succeed, you must start playing to win! In this episode, I discuss the journey I was on from living with a scarcity mentality to the shift to one of playing to win. I recently attended my 20th college reunion at Washington & Jefferson College with 2 of my closest friends and fraternity brothers. While there, we began reminiscing about the old days and how so many friendships have changed over the years. But why do these things change? More importantly, why do they matter? Well, have deep, meaningful friendships matter more than you can imagine. In this episode, I discuss the importance of having these deep relationships and how to make sure you maintain them. As a parent, I question myself daily. Am I a good parent? Am I teaching them everything they need to know? But something I have also always asked myself is: am I learning from them? See, kids can teach us a lot when we listen and let them. My 3 kids have taught me lessons I will never forget and for that, I am eternally grateful to them. Despite all they have taught me, there are 3 really important ones that I want to share with all of you. In this episode, I discuss the 3 most important lessons I have learned from my amazing children. I hope you enjoy! Finding your best self is a lifelong journey. A journey of progress. This is a journey I have been on for years, but recently I found a new technique to help ensure my best self shows up daily. But first, you have to identify your best and worst self and give those 2 selfs life. That is the secret. In this episode, I talk about the exercise of identifying your 2 selfs and why it is so important to do so. "Freedom is the only worthy goal in life. It is won by disregarding things beyond our control." - Epictetus This quote is a simple reminder of what is important in life, but it also begs the question: how do we find freedom? This is the challenge most people face. It is human nature to worry about the things we can't control. So how do we stop or at least limit what we are worrying about? Well, the answer is simple. Find your truth. In this episode, I talk about why you must find your truth, how to do so, and what happens when you do. It is funny to me how much negativity there still is on the internet. That fact that people take the time to write negative comments on inspirational posts baffles me. It is obvious that they are making a choice to do so. They are making a choice to be negative. And why do they do that...because it is easy. Negativity is a default operating system of most people. This has to change if we are going to make this world a better place. In this episode, I talk about the choice we get to make every day and how that choice can impact our life. In society, we are embarking on a period of awakening. The amount of information we receive have exceeded our human capacity. Yet, we expect to solve new problems with old rules, leading to frustration and overwhelm in society. Well, it is time to change the rules and operate differently. It is time to become enlightened! We all tend to operate at a certain level in life. A certain degree. We have what Ed Mylett calls "governors" on our lives. These are the beliefs we have about ourselves and what we are capable and worthy of. Well, if you want to change your life, you have to change your beliefs, your governors, your thermostat. As I turn 42 this week, I started thinking about the past 10 years of my life. There are many things I know now that if I knew 10 years ago, I believe my life would be a lot farther along. Now, this list is very long, but I boiled it down to 6 important things. 6 things that can change the trajectory of your life. 6 things that will make you successful. I want you all to listen, digest, and then go out and implement the things I talk about in this episode. This is how you can change the course of your life! This is a monumental episode! I've done 150 episodes and I can't believe it! It has been an amazing journey and I have all of you to thank for making it such a great ride. Over the past 2.5 years, I have grown and learned so much about myself and the world at large. I am a completely different person than I was when I started this. So, in honor of this episode, I spent some time reflecting on the things I have learned. In this episode, I talk about the 5 choices you must be willing to make if you want to be successful. There was so much more going on inside, but it took me a few months to figure it out and it wasn't pretty. Life has a funny way of smacking you in the face and stopping you in your tracks. Especially when you let it, which I did. In this returning episode, I open up about what was going on, is still going on, and how I am dealing with it. Life is a funny thing. We hit stages where we start to question choices. In my mid-thirties, I realized that I needed to do things differently and live bolder. This past weekend I got a reminder of this when I realized someone I used to listen to in my childhood passed away at the age of 43. I am 41 and this scared me. Over the years, I have learned that successful people do things differently. This is what makes them successful. But there is one thing that successful people do that separates them from all the rest. It is something so fundamental to having the life you want that once you understand it, everything changes. The story of Michaelangelo carving the statue of "David" is fascinating. He carved the famous sculpture from a piece of marble he found on a side street in Florence, Italy. Recently I turned 41. As I approached my birthday, I started to reflect on the past year and the things I did and didn't accomplish. One of the goals I had, when I turned 40, was to finish my book by the end of 2017. Complete failure. The reason: I lacked accountability to something or someone. Well, I finished the book the day before I turned 41 because I finally had accountability. In this episode, I discuss the importance of accountability and why it matters to help you accomplish success quicker! "If you want something bad enough, you find a way; if you don't, you find an excuse." A pretty famous saying that I completely agree with. However, I also believe there is something more to it. Motivation is an important part of getting what you want. You may want something really bad, but motivation ebbs and flows. This is something you must recognize, understand, and adapt to when it happens. In this episode, I discuss this very concept and how to ensure that when your internal fire starts to dim, you have a way to reignite it! It is amazing what happens when you look back on life and realize some of the things you were told and how they have impacted your life. I recently was thinking about an early mentor of mine and a piece of advice he gave me when I started my legal career. After thinking for a bit, I realized that it might have been the greatest advice I have ever received. In this episode, I talk about what my mentor told me, why I believe it is the greatest advice, and how to use it in both your personal and professional life. I recently attended a 3-day luxury mastermind retreat in Lake Tahoe and I cannot describe in words how it changed my life. I have been in involved in mastermind groups in the past, but never a retreat that I had to pay a decent bit of money to attend. Well, let's just say you get what you pay for and I would have paid 100 times more for this retreat. It was amazing. In this episode, I talk about the retreat, some takeaways and why you should attend one too!
