Many people have struggled with their mental health during the pandemic, but still don’t always feel free to discuss it, especially at work. Stigma remains a problem and discussing your difficulties at all is off-limits. For many years in England a campaign called Time To Change tried to change attitudes and the evidence from that and other initiatives was used to launch campaigns in India, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda in 2019. Sue Baker, Mind’s International Health Advisor, and Rosemary Gathara, Director of Basic Needs, Basic Rights in Kenya discuss the findings of the campaigns with Claudia Hammond. Matt Fox, Professor of Global Epidemiology at Boston University in the US, joins Claudia to talk about the latest global picture of Covid, mask wearing at basketball games in the US and the Kindness Test. And they look at research that suggests too much free time is bad for us. Presenter: Claudia Hammond Producer: Erika Wright (Picture: A woman sitting in a room. Sean: So Louis before we, before I asked you any of my questions, I'd like to know I saw in your profile that you - just like a lot of people today, started in the corporate world. I started in the corporate world, but I ended up just staying there for five months before starting on my, my own business. Which I didn't know would be where it is today. I thought it would fail because it's my first time. But I want to hear, like, what is it like for you when you were in the corporate world? Because now you're a life coach and we do - strangely, we'd have a lot of guests here. Some of them, even C-level executives right next to Warren Buffet who quit and became a speaker, and became a coach and a mentor. I don't know why we have a lot of that, but I'm happy because you guys are the ones who really want to help people. So I want to hear it from your story. What happened? Lou: Oh, for sure. I was in the corporate world for a lot longer than five months. I was in the corporate world for over 20 years straight out of uni. I started off life in the world of market research, consumer insight, and I absolutely loved it. I really loved it. I was traveling the world. I was living in London. I was going to all these amazing cities, talking to amazing people life was good. It was only then probably, and that was probably, I was in my twenties then into my thirties and forties, I'd have my children by then. I married, feeling a bit more settled to the traveling wasn't as much and all the rest of it. And it was really probably as I was approaching 40, that I just started to think, is this really it? Is this really it? Am I going to spend the next 20, 30 years getting out of bed and you know, not feeling fulfilled? I was then working for a very large global FMCG company. I had a horrible boss that I really disliked. There was no mutual respect or anything there. I just didn't feel like the work I was doing was making any difference. You know, I was a very small cog in a huge, huge wheel, absolutely it. Me being able to make any kind of difference or impact was just not happening. And actually, what started my journey was as part of a sort of personal development program in this corporate job, we did a piece around purpose and what our purpose was. And that actually woke me up to the fact that staying in the corporate world was not my purpose, that I had bigger, better things that were meant for me that I was meant to do. And with my background and being a qualitative researcher, talking to people, getting the best out of people, I realized then that I had to leave. I had to figure out what it was that I wanted to do. And then finally, I opened and closed lots of doors. I explored different avenues that didn't work out, and that I didn't enjoy. And I think we have to do that in many respects, but that journey took me nearly five years to finally figure out what it was that I wanted to do. And then I finally landed. And it's so obvious, it's one of those things that it's so obvious when it finally - you're finally confronted with it. I should coach people, you know, coaching other people to help them figure out their purpose and to help them find fulfillment in life. So they don't have to take five years to figure out why they're here. And so that's what really started my journey and yeah, escape the corporate nine to five and haven't looked back. I've been letting my kids pick out their own outfits for quite a few years. What I love about City Threads is that most of their clothing options are color basics so my kids can mix and match their clothes no problem. They also have some adorable patterned leggings for girls that go with so many of their solid colored tops. Having these options in my kids' drawers helps foster their independence of getting dressed on their own with much less arguing about whether or not their outfit matches. Visit citythreads.com and use Tanner10 for a 10% discount. This week's Product That Makes Parenting Stink Less is the Butter Bell. When thinking about a career change, envision what kind of life you want, and look at your purpose. If that aligns with your purpose, and your spouse is on the same page as you, and ask “Which of these situations allows you to give God the most glory and love people well? We could easily get caught up in a cycle. Repeating the same old story over and over again! But when does it actually change? Most of us seek change when it gets too painful to stay where we are. Till then, we say we want to change but our current reality and problems serve us. They keep us safe from stepping out of our comfort zone, from stepping out of what is familiar to us, and stepping into the unknown. Your mission isn't to get rid of the problems, but to get really good at dealing with them! In this episode, I breakdown 3 questions that have helped me every single time I felt stuck.

Living in Denver and going to school in Boulder, I spent a great deal of time shopping at the exact King Soopers, where 10 innocent men and women lost their lives tragically. I feel so terribly sad for those families who lost their child, parent, spouse, and loved one! These tragedies always bring me back to being reminded that TODAY is not a dress rehearsal. We have today. We have right now. That's what we know and that's all we know! This means to me that, if you're not happy with your life, the time to change is NOW. If there's something that I can do to help YOU take your life by the grip of your hands so that you see how amazing you are TODAY, how to love yourself and your body TODAY, and to take care of yourself TODAY, I consider that to be the most meaningful and privileged work I can do. The business week started out great. I recently upgraded one of my commercial cleaning clients by $350 per month. When I got the call at the Airsoft field about another veterinary hospital, I was thrilled. Yes, that's right. The Airsoft field. Here's a short bonus funny papers. My oldest son, Kenny, just 16 recently and we decided to do a birthday party for him. It involved 7 of his teenage friends, Airsoft guns, gear, a 3-hour battle at the Airsoft field, games at home, food (lots of it), cake, and presents. Due to shutdowns in December, we had to move his party to late January. It was well worth the wait. I decided to sacrifice my Honda Pilot over Teresa's family van. I took 4 of Kenny's friends directly from church to the Airsoft field. We met the other 3 there. I helped them get set up and left in the hands of the field referrees to play for 3 hours. I then went to the car to chill out, stay warm, watch from the parking lot, and get some work done on my laptop. While I was waiting, I got a call from a local veterinarian looking for cleaning. She told me that she used to work with Ruth at another hospital I clean. Ruth saw her post on the veterinary private group and proudly referred me. The first takeaway is that I am worthy of being referred. My work and customer service are excellent, which is why I was referred. Are you doing likewise at every house and office you clean? The call lasted for 20 minutes as we learned about each other's background. I learned that she had recently opened a new hospital after working for others for years and she invested heavily into cleaning using her staff (but they needed a break). She learned that I also cleaned for another vet. We worked out a few scenarios of how I could help. I even gave examples of how much I currently charge for other vets and how much it may cost her. She invited me for an estimate a few days later. That estimate went outstanding. We're working on a rotational cleaning schedule that I'll quote her several options for next week. Back to the teenagers... After the call, I realized something vital. My Pilot was equipped to seat 8, but not 8 with Airsoft guns and gear and certainly not 7 teenagers and me! I underestimated the choice of using my Pilot. I called Teresa for an audible. She drove over the field to drop off some gear that Kenny forgot and took most of the gear off my hands. The boys were so stoked after playing for 3 hours and ready for mass quantities of chili, candy, and cake. They were also filthy and muddy. This is where the sacrifice came in. My car still has mud marks all over the back seats, carpet, and vinyl trim. It's everywhere! The ride to our house was hilarious as myself and 7 high school boys cramped into my Pilot. We all joked it was like one of those clown cars in the circus. The rest of the day was great. I knew teenagers could eat, but even I was surprised when they ate an entire pot of homemade chili and like 3 bags of corn chips. My wife had designed "Minute-to-Win-it" games with ping-pong balls, dice, straws, candy, and other dollar store items for the boys to challenge each other. I was MC and scorekeeper. They needed one more player, so one kind teen allowed my 9-year-old son Kolby to be his teammate. Guess what?! Bryce and Kolby won! The night ended with cake, presents, man-hunt outside, and stupid YouTube videos The last boy was picked up at 8:30! Teresa and I were exhausted, but my son was happy and I got a new potential big client! The combination of this client and the increased one ends my commercial cleaning goal before I start optimizing.Read the rest of this article at the Solo Cleaning School website
