Episode 330: 7 Steps to Building a Christian Family — Part 5 Text: Deuteronomy 6:6–12 (review of 6–9, new focus on 10–12) Recap of Steps So Far Underlying foundation: knowing God — building a real, living relationship with Him (not just a salvation moment). Fear God — reverent awe + healthy fear of consequences. Keep God First — requires ongoing self-examination ("Lord, am I keeping you first?"). This is similiar to the purpose of a revival: intentional, recurring evaluation of the heart. Love God with heart, soul, might/mind/strength — loving God with total, unguarded enthusiasm. Teach God's Word Diligently — not just memorization but application, so Scripture "pops up" in the heart in the moment of decision or conviction (Proverbs 6). Step 5 (this episode): Enjoy God's Blessings Wisely (Don't Forget God in Abundance) Deut. 6:10–12 — warns Israel that once they live in houses they didn't build, drink from wells they didn't dig, and eat from vineyards they didn't plant, and are "full," the danger is forgetting the Lord. This step "nails us as Americans" — most people live in homes they didn't build, eat food they didn't grow, and eat out of fullness/abundance rather than hunger.  God is not against blessing/prosperity — the text itself promises houses, food, and abundance as gifts from God. Nice homes, cars, and possessions aren't inherently wrong or "spoiled." Caution: don't confuse God's blessing with the American Dream. Someone can have the bigger house, nicer car, or yacht and be completely unblessed if their family and relationship with God are falling apart. True blessing shows up as peace, joy, love, and gentleness in the home — not material markers. Scripture ties blessing to obedience/pursuit of righteousness (referenced the Deuteronomy blessings/curses passage and the pattern seen across Joshua vs. Judges) — but this isn't a strict formula; God remains gracious even amid failure. Practical Application: Enjoying Blessings "With Care" / Frugality Money has two purposes: to live, and to give — live more frugally (smaller home, older-but-nice car, lower payments) to free up margin for giving and to avoid overwork that outsources parenting to daycare/babysitters. Have a grateful heart as a discipline — actively resisting complaint over aging cars, food choices, etc., which the hosts frame as a subtle form of forgetting God. Practical family habit: praying before meals with genuine, unhurried gratitude rather than rote routine; teaching kids a thankfulness verse; verbally noting "isn't it amazing we get to eat like this?" as a repeated family phrase. How blessed are you? In your blessings, are you forgetting God?(e.g., packed schedules of travel/activities, expensive Christian schooling, but no family devotions, gratitude, or altar at home).

Episode 006 Notes Why Your Child Can't Handle “No” In this episode of Raising Lions with Pastor Joseph, we look at one of the biggest struggles in modern parenting: children who cannot handle being told “no.” Many parents have unintentionally trained their children to expect negotiation, explanations, second chances, and eventually getting their way. The result is a child who sees boundaries as unfair, correction as personal, and disappointment as something they should never have to experience. In this episode, Pastor Joseph discusses: Why “no” is an important part of healthy parenting How constant negotiation weakens parental authority Why children need to experience disappointment The danger of rescuing children from every uncomfortable situation How giving in to tantrums and emotional reactions reinforces bad behavior Why boundaries help children develop self-control How parents can calmly say “no” without arguing, bargaining, or apologizing Why consistency matters more than intensity How learning to accept “no” prepares children for adulthood Scripture: Proverbs 22:6 The goal is not to make children miserable. The goal is to teach them that they will not always get what they want, emotions do not control the household, and healthy authority must be respected. Boundaries over bargaining. Discipline over emotion. Obedience over negotiation. Keep raising lions.

It must be diligently taught (v.7 — "teach them diligently") Two forms: Formal family devotions — scheduling a set time (Dave and Bethlie do this in the evenings). Their practice: reading a passage, reviewing memorized passages (Ten Commandments, Beatitudes, Psalm 1, 19, 23, 100), closing in prayer. Informal/organic teaching — woven into daily life as Deut. 6:7 describes ("when thou sittest... walkest... liest down... risest up"): Using teachable moments from TV (example: an Andy Griffith episode with a drunk character as an opening to discuss what the Bible says about alcohol; also referenced a real story about alcohol contributing to an affair in a church). Correcting sibling conflict by quoting Scripture on the spot, and having kids write out Bible verses as a consequence/reinforcement. Attaching specific verses to recurring life moments — e.g., Psalm 19:1 ("The heavens declare...") for stargazing, Psalm 23 imagery for green pastures/lakes seen while driving, Ecclesiastes ("in all labor there is profit") for schoolwork motivation, Proverbs 11:16 ("a gracious woman retaineth honor") for daughters navigating "mean girl" dynamics, Job 31:1 ("I have made a covenant with mine eyes,") for teenage sons and purity of eyes. 3. It must be prominently displayed (v.9 — "write them upon the posts of thy house") Scripture decor/signs around the home Kids writing verse references or phrases on their own hands as personal reminders — modeled after a young evangelist who traveled with the family; framed as intentional and temporary, not a tattoo. 4. It must be reasonably explained (previewed, to be covered in a future episode) As kids get older, genuine "why" questions are an opportunity to explain Scripture's reasoning — distinguished from rebellious "why," which needs correction rather than explanation. As kids mature, ask them "What do you think we should do based on what the Bible says?" to build their own habit of returning to Scripture.

Series Recap Fear God — To fear God, kids must first know God (can't stand in awe of someone unfamiliar). Keep God First — God takes priority over comfort, convenience, and blessing. A home can look put together (loving spouses, "good kids," active church attendance) and still fail at these principles. None of this happens by accident; it requires deliberate, daily practice. Parents can "perform" faith at church, but they cannot fool their own family — kids sense whether God is genuinely first. Step 3 (this episode): Love God with All Your Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength "No one rebels against that which they love." What you love becomes obvious to others (illustrated humorously via sports team loyalty). How to Train Kids to Love God In the good times: Teach kids to be thankful. Teach them to be thankful for each other (birthdays, Father's/Mother's Day, graduations), and for God's provision through others (writing thank you notes). Prioritize church attendance even when life is comfortable — ease is often when people quietly deprioritize God. Invest financially/practically in opportunities for kids to encounter God (e.g., sending kids to summer camp despite the cost). In the dark times: Personal Example: loss of children (infant loss), loss of both of Bethlie's parents, church transitions, ministry conflicts/misunderstandings. Foundation matters: loving God consistently in good times prepares a family not to be "blown out of the water" by hard times. Framing for kids: hardship isn't God abandoning the family — it's the reality of living in a fallen/sin-cursed world; God remains good and can grow us through difficulty. Model consistency: continue church attendance, Bible reading, prayer, and kindness within the home even when discouraged — kids watch whether parents' faith holds up under pressure. Have honest, age-appropriate conversations with kids about what's happening and reaffirm the family's commitment to keep loving God through it. Serving others during hard times shifts focus off self and onto others — described as "powerful." Callback to Episode 1 theme: "serve the Lord with gladness" — serving happily in both good and bad times testifies to love for God. Caution on guarding the tongue (referencing James 1:26) — complaining/negativity undercuts a credible testimony of loving God, especially in front of children. Closing Thought "Love is never stagnant — it is either growing or declining. "Relationship with God requires ongoing, active pursuit, not a one-time declaration. Summary challenge to listeners: fear God, keep God first, and love God with heart, soul, mind, and strength — then train the next generation to do the same.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson, Timothy Reed and Adam McManus U.S. condemns Nigerian Islamic massacre of Christian family The U.S. government is condemning the Islamic massacre of a Nigerian pastor's family in northern Nigeria that occurred earlier this month.   Nine family members of Pastor Ezekiel Dachomo were killed in the recent attack. Pastor Dachomo was known throughout the country for his assigning blame to the Nigerian government for escalating violence against Nigerian Christians.   According to TruthNigeria, which first reported the killings, dozens of others were killed by radical Islamist groups in northern Nigeria on July 11th. President Trump himself had re-posted Pastor Dachomo's recent video where he was crying out for international help, while he stood in a mass grave of dead Christians. Some now suspect the Nigerian government as complicit in the murder of Pastor Dachomo's family as punishment for the video. And now, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has criticized the Nigerian government. On an X post, he wrote, “Nigerian officials have created an environment that facilitates mass violence against Christians and religious minorities by imposing blasphemy and Sharia laws and looking the other way at jihadist atrocities. The U.S. government knows the Nigerian officials responsible for these policies, I have been pushing my bill to sanction them.” Let us remember this sober spiritual lesson from Psalm 9:17: “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” Are Europe's worst fires connected to perversion and hostility to homeschoolers? Meantime, Spain and France are suffering through the worst fires of the century as 300,000 people have been evacuated so far. That's the largest evacuation since World War II, reports ABC News. Specifically, 13,566 fires have swept across 448 square miles in France. And in Spain, 591 square miles have burned this year which is six times the amount that burned through the first half of 2025. It has resulted in the displacement of 250,000 French and 50,000 Spaniards. Spain approved of faux-homosexual marriage in 2005. And France approved of sexually perverted marriages in 2013. Plus, homeschooling was also recently banned in France. Micah 3 speaks of this tyranny: “And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; is it not for you to know judgment? Who hate the good, and love the evil . . . Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them;. . . Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but He will not hear them:” Sweden, Germany and Netherlands oppose homeschooling The same has occurred in Sweden, Germany, and now the Netherlands. Two months ago, the Netherlands' highest court ruled that parents can only claim the homeschool exemption if there is no suitable school nearby, virtually making it impossible to homeschool. And now, England has also adopted a new restrictive homeschool law, signed by King Charles III in April. According to the U.S.-based Homeschool Legal Defense Association, the new law “grants local authorities the power to prevent families from homeschooling if officials believe a proposed home education program is unsuitable.” Micah 3:2-4 speaks of this tyranny: “And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and you princes of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know judgment? You who hate the good, and love the evil. … who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them. … Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but He will not hear them.” Nuclear power coming to the Islamic world Nuclear power is coming to the Islamic world. The United States has signed an agreement with the Islamic state of Saudi Arabia, providing a legal framework for U.S. companies to participate in Saudi Arabia's civilian nuclear power program. The Muslim countries of Pakistan and Iran have already built a nuclear program. The Muslim-dominated countries of Turkey and Egypt are also in the process of building a nuclear program. Iran and South Korea began their nuclear program in the 1970s, Pakistan in the 1960s, and now, Turkey in 2018, and Egypt in 2022.  Nicaraguan communist president suspended elections Nicaragua's communist president, Daniel Ortega, has suspended his country's elections indefinitely.  The Central American country continues to suffer under the iron grip of communism, and conservative outlet Human Events notes that, “Nicaragua's last election in 2021 was widely disputed after Ortega's government arrested opposition candidates, activists, and members of the business community ahead of the vote.” Of the 43 nations in Latin America, Nicaragua has the second worst Gross Domestic Product per capita — right next to the other communist country — Cuba, and also, Haiti. Forest fires in Northwest America California, Washington, and Oregon are already lit up in forest fires this season. That's well ahead of last year.  In California, there are 3,338 wildfires which have burned 195,000 acres. And in Oregon, 34 major blazes have burned 1.3 million acres, reports The Statesman-Journal. Oregon has burned more acreage than last year and the season's not over. Mostly the fires have been started by an act of God — that is, lightning strikes, reports FoxWeather.com. America ready to deport hundreds of thousands of Haitians The temporary protected status for hundreds of thousands of Haitians in America is expected to end this week, according to CBS News.  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, is preparing to launch operations to deport these immigrants, though there is still an option for immigrants to leave on their own.  The Department of Homeland Security explained, “What we would say now is it's closing time which means you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here."  Inflation plagues America Inflation fears have saddled the U.S. economy. Thirty-year U.S. bond yields are up to 5.2%. It's been 20 years since the yields have been in that territory.  Thirty-year mortgage rates hit 6.77% --the highest rate in about a year. MoneyLion.com analyzed pay increases versus cost-of-living increases over the last five years across the U.S. and found 30 states are losing ground. This is impacting the middle class more than anybody else.   Folks in Massachusetts and New Jersey have lost 23% to inflation while Louisiana and Mississippi gained a little ground with a 10-11% bump.  Worldwide government debt increased by 6% In other economic news, government debt for the developed nations of the world has popped up another 6% overall this year.   Fitch Ratings is forecasting a $4.2 trillion bump this year, of which the United States is at the forefront.  Top debtor nations are the United States with a forecasted deficit of 7.8% of our Gross Domestic Product, which is the total market value of goods and services produced within America in a year. The United States is followed by France at 5% of their Gross Domestic Product, Britain at 4.8% of their GDP, Germany at 3.7% of their GDP, and Japan at 3.1% of their Gross Domestic Product. For the first nine months of this fiscal year, President Donald Trump's spendy government exceeded the 9-month average of deficits for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 — the four years for which President Joe Biden was responsible.  The U.S. deficit topped $1.4 trillion for the first nine months, and now is on track for a $2 trillion deficit this year. That compares to the Biden four-year average of $1.67 trillion. Extra print stories Shooter in Seattle killed three people A mass shooter in Seattle, Washington, killed three people and wounded several more on Sunday, CNN reported.  A suspect has been taken into custody, two weapons have been recovered,  and one report indicated that there was a firefight between more than one shooter.  In a statement the night of the shooting, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson promised, “In the days ahead, we will establish what happened and be transparent with the public about what we have learned. Tonight, our attention belongs to the people whose lives were taken, those fighting to recover, and the families beside them.”  Genesis 6:11 reminds us, “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” Minnesota GOP candidate Mike Lindell gets backlash over amnesty plan Mike Lindell, CEO of My Pillow and GOP gubernatorial candidate in the state of Minnesota, has come under backlash for his amnesty plan for illegal aliens. Lindell suggested ending deportations in Minnesota for six months, and per the Dallas Express, “Lindell proposed giving illegal aliens six months to register with the government, submit fingerprints, undergo background checks, and receive a conditional work visa. Applicants would not receive citizenship or voting rights.” However, under Lindell's plan, these conditional visas would not expire, and the immigrants would “never have to leave.”  Immigration continues to be a major issue in conservative circles, and many have seen Lindell's views as a betrayal.
