Our first stop on our eating in Athens tour was Seabear Oyster Bar, where we sat down with Chef Patrick, and his partner Peter, about the Athens dining scene. We talked about what to eat in Athens, from the high-end dining spots to the greasy spoons. Of course, it took a little more prodding to get the low down on the college dining scene. I wanted to visit Athens because it is a fun college town. I loved our food at Seabear, but I wanted to pretend to be a college student for a few days! And Chef Patrick and Peter didn't disappoint with their recommendations

When doing our research, one place kept coming up as one of the best Memphis BBQ joints: Central BBQ. We arrived just before lunch time to talk Memphis BBQ with Rodger Sapp, one of the owners of Central BBQ. From his early beginnings, eating BBQ with his father, to becoming passionate about BBQ, it all lead him to Central BBQ. Looking for something to do in Louisiana, before noon, on a weekday? How about drinking down a few pints of Baton Rouge craft beer. That's just what we did when we met Joe from Southern Craft Brewing Company. When he's not a project manager for large oil and gas clients, he's brewing beer, just through the back door of his uniquely located tasting room. We pulled off the highway, and wound our way to the back of an industrial park, and there's where we found the Southern Craft Brewing Company. We talked with Joe about his transition from home brewer to official brew master. And, he's off and running with award winning beers with names like Pompous Pelican, Red Stick Ryle, and Swamp Sting. Jeff of Tiger Deaux-Nuts explained just what was on one of the best breakfast sandwiches we've ever eaten. First off, it included a special sausage, and it was sandwiched between two slices of their famous donuts. Jeff was a man with a dream. A donut dream. On this week's episode of our food travel podcast, not only did we talk about a locally famous breakfast sandwich, but we learned how he came up with the idea of creating an artisan donut shop in Baton Rouge. Our chat with Jay quickly turned from BBQ to Louisiana food specialties, including a special local sausage. We don't want to give too much away as there will be special episode and blog post later about boudin. Jay also provides his advice on what to eat in Baton Rouge, including oysters which rival those available in New Orleans. But, during our #USChowDown 6 week long US culinary road trip, we wanted to learn as much as possible about American craft beer. And, we were schooled in Louisiana, at Parish Brewing Company. On this week's episode of the food travel podcast, we sit down with Andrew to talk hop wizardry, how he ended up in the American craft beer industry, and why the food in Lafayette, Louisiana is so darned special. We ate so many great meals in our few days exploring the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Neither of us had ever been to Mississippi before, and frankly, as Northerners, we probably carried some preconceived notions of what Mississippi is all about. But, within the few days we spent exploring the best Mississippi Gulf Coast eats, all of these notions were dispelled. On this week's episode of our food travel podcast, we sit down with Kait and Jessie, the partners behind Greenhouse on Porter in Ocean Springs. Not only are they making some amazing biscuits, but in a few short years, they have created a neighborhood cafe, set, yes, inside a green house on Porter Ave. We had breakfast there three days in a row, and each day had loads of great conversations with locals, who welcomed us with open arms. We also sit down with Gindy Taranto of Taranto's Crawfish House in D'Iberville, Mississippi. Set on the corner of a country road, and packed to the brim during a busy weekday lunch, they have some of the best po'boy sandwiches in the region. We talk with her about what it means to make a mean po'boy. For more from the With Husband In Tow Podcast and to see this week's show notes click here: http://www.withhusbandintow.com/s2e15/

There is just something about the phrase “award winning BBQ.” BBQ is some serious business. I've seen national competitions on the Travel Channel and always admired the patience that comes from making good BBQ. Sitting down with an award winning BBQ master, in of all places, Mississippi, was like a dream come true. That's what happened when we met Brad Orrison of The Shed BBQ in Ocean Springs. Brad, and his sister Brooke, started The Shed BBQ only about a decade ago. And, even with all of the trials and tribulations that come with operating a restaurant along the Gulf, including being wiped out not only by Hurricane Katrina, but also by fire, they are still standing strong. And, they make a mean BBQ too. We also talked abut Brad's work with Operation BBQ Relief, where he and fellow BBQ masters travel to disaster areas to deliver hot meals to people in need. Just a few days before, he was in Hammond, Louisiana, to serve something like 13,000 meals. He's even traveled all the way up to New York just after Hurricane Sandy. How does the daughter of a professional hockey player begin writing about culinary travel? After a solo trip to Paris, where Laura learned about French cooking techniques and took classes at the famous French cooking school Le Cordon Bleu, she became more serious about sharing her food travel tips with others. It's one of the reasons why she ultimately created The Culinary Travel Guide. During this week's culinary travel podcast, we talked about some of our shared food travel experiences. We have a lot in common when it comes to our experiences traveling in France for the food, although we were offering her some serious advice about planning her next Italian culinary tourism trip! More recently, she was the dessert and sandwiches judge at a cook off in Canada. We talk about some of their favorite food travel experiences. We were surprised to find some similarities, like enjoying great Greek food, loving pinchos and tapas in Barcelona, and how much we all love the art of charcuterie. Although Peter is way more advanced than we are in cured meats. We merely enjoy them. He makes them himself. We also surprised Peter and Annette with our knowledge of Mexican in Bangkok. I think by the end we were jealous of their wine drinking in California, and they were jealous of our easy access to amazing Pad Thai. And, I think we may have agreed to meet up in Spain, or Italy, or Georgia, at some point in the next year! You know it's going to be a good podcast when someone uses the phrase "Alcohol Delivery System." It all started one night at one of our favorite Bangkok dive bars, Jack's, and way too many local Thai beers. It's when we learned exactly how much Sheila and Evo, of the Opportunistic Travelers, are, well, beer snobs. Since that time, I realized that we are uneducated beer drinkers, and at least somewhat educated wine drinkers. Sheila and Evo are the opposite. They are admittedly uneducated wine drinkers, but are very educated beer drinkers, particularly with craft beer. On this week's episode, we talk craft beer with our resident craft beer experts, Sheila and Evo, or "Shevo." From our recent Czech beer experiences and our first craft beer brewery tasting in Dingle, Ireland, to what the heck craft beer is in the first place. The best part of our craft beer podcast?
