If you like culinary or wine travel, you need to put the Chilean Winelands on your travel bucket list. Tamara just came back from a two-week trip to Chile including the Atacama Desert and the Winelands. Episode Highlights: The wine regions are south and west of Santiago It is easy to drive through these regions but it is still recommended to get a driver for days when you are doing wine tasting Two hours south of Santiago is the Colchagua Region that is known for its red wine including Malbec, Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carmenere. One hour west of Santiago is the Casablanca Region, which is closer to the coast, and is more known for its white wines like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. She stayed at the Vibo Wine Lodge in Colchagua. This is a small boutique property on the Viu Manent Vineyards near Santa Cruz. It has individual lofts or tiny homes spread out throughout the vineyards. Another popular place to stay in this region is Clos Apalta, which is a Relais & Chateaux luxury property. Vibo Wine Lodge includes breakfast in the coffee shop on property and they also have two other restaurants, the Rayuela Restaurant and the Vibo Wine and Food Studio. On property you can hike, borrow bikes, enjoy the pool, go wine tasting or set up horseback riding. They also did a wine tour with Colchagua Wine Tours, which was only $125 for a day with a private driver (you pay for the tasting separately.) Tamara enjoyed wine tasting at Montgras Winery and Maquis Winery. They had a nice lunch at Fuego Apalta on the Montes Winery (but she didn't like the wine at Montes.) Tastings of the "icon" wines, which are the top wines, are about $40-50 per person. Clos Apalta Residence is also an excellent place to go for lunch or dinner and you can go wine tasting at the winery. In Casablance, they stayed at La Casona, which is a hacienda which has been converted to a hotel on the grounds of the Matetic Vineyards. This was all-inclusive because there isn't a lot nearby to eat. But the menu doesn't change so it gets repetitive if you are there for any length of time. The package also includes excursions and they did a biodynamic wine tour and tasting, mountain biking, and hiking. They also offer horseback riding and excursions to towns. Oneika Raymond is hungry. And, luckily, she's headed to Mexico City, one of the most exciting culinary destinations in the world — and a place she always finds herself coming back to. There, she visits three eating and drinking spots that connect her to the layered flavors and history that give Mexico City its particular sabor, or flavor, to deepen her understanding of the dynamic capital. Oneika starts her day off early with a sunrise float through Xochimilco, an historic and active canal system perhaps best known for its weekend parties on the water. But, Oneika's guide, Anais Martinez, the founder of Devoured Food Tours, is here to show Oneika the quieter side of Xochimilco: its farms, or chinampas. Oneika and Anais tour a working chinampa, where Oneika picks fresh produce for a farm-to-table breakfast. Over the meal, Anais shares how Xochimilco once nourished most of Mexico City — and how its role continues to evolve as a vital piece of the culinary scene.Then, Oneika heads to the beating heart of Mexico City's food scene: its bustling streets. She meets up with Natalia de la Rosa, a local food and travel journalist at Tacos de Mixiote Castelán — one of Natalia's go-to street food taco stands in her neighborhood of Juárez. Passing through Ballycastle, a charming seaside town on the Causeway Coast in Ireland's northeast corner, one wouldn't necessarily expect to find a world-class bakery serving sourdough breads and creative, beautiful pastries. But after spending time learning and traveling abroad, this is exactly what Ciara O'hArtlaighle and her husband, Dara, created when they opened Ursa Minor. Enjoy!Melinda Romney's Apple Pie Squares Makes: 9x13” pan Crust: 2 cups flour ¾ cup powdered sugar 1 cup (2 cubes) butter, softened Mix ingredients together and press 2/3 of it into bottom of 9x13” pan. Add ¼ cup of flour to the remaining mixture and set aside. Filling: Pour 1 large can of apple pie filling (or you can substitute cherry pie filling) on crust. Sprinkle remaining crust mixture on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes. In this episode we speak with Writer, Creator, Producer, and Educator Lisa Goldman, who along with Heather Kenyon and Munjal Shroff created the award-winning preschool animated Netflix series, “Deepa & Anoop”. Lisa's motto is “Never Give Up!” After a wonderful, life-altering trip to India and 17 years of perseverance, Lisa and her team worked out a development deal with Mattel that landed “Deepa & Anoop” on Netflix. This series won the 2023 Kidscreen Awards for “Best New Animated Preschool Series,” “Best Inclusivity,” “Best Voice Talent,” and “Best Music.” Brought to India by animation guru Ram Mohan, Lisa served on the international jury for the Mumbai International Film Festival and taught a workshop for Ram's animation school. Lisa became fascinated with the “Page Three” column in The Times of India dedicated to Bollywood stars and from there, her inspiration for the series took flight.  Lisa continues to develop shows with heart and humor, animated or live-action, across the family and children's media landscape. Lisa's other accomplishments include serving as story editor on “BabyRiki,” a Russian preschool animated series adapted into neutral English for the British market. Lisa is currently developing two unscripted series with Citizen Skull Productions. She loves writing episodes on other people's shows and also has several new series she's developing and preparing to pitch for preschoolers and tweens. Dedicated to the NYC animation scene, Lisa was appointed to the NYC Animation Industry Council that advises The Animation Project (TAP). She is a past president of Women in Animation (WIA) NYC and continues to mentor and network creators in our industry. She's published articles in Animation Magazine and AWN.COM. Lisa also teaches classes on developing animated series and business practices at Montclair State University in New Jersey, previously at School of Visual Arts and privately.  Lisa is also co-founder of Tour de Forks, a culinary travel company based in New York City. In Part Two of my special three-part series of Whidbey Island, WA, I have a fantastic conversation with restaurateur and business owner Jenn Jurriaans.   She takes us through her early connections growing up visiting Whidbey Island as a child to their exciting beginnings creating their restaurant Prima Bistro. Prima Bistro is a Northwest Bistro inspired by French Classics located in Langley on Whidbey Island. They offer an impressive wine list, a menu that changes with the seasons, and a full cocktail bar. Jenn and her Executive Chef husband Sieb Jurriaans also own Saltwater Fish House & Oyster Bar and now the newly opened Seabiscuit Bakery. Running restaurants during the Pandemic was obviously an incredible challenge, but Jenn shares how her passionate and capable team managed to pivot and look at their business differently without customers sitting in the restaurant. Everyone joined together to do everything and anything they could! So inspiring! It was such a privilege to learn how it feels to run successful businesses in a destination city. Whidbey is an extraordinary place to visit, and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing where Jenn, her husband Sieb, and her daughters like to get away and a couple of favorite spots to eat as well. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts President Radha Arora is one of the most influential people in travel. He's also a true connoisseur of global cuisine, and in this episode, he speaks with Bruce about some of his favorite dining destinations and go-to spots worldwide.   Arora begins by giving us an insider's view on a place he practically considers home: Paris. Rather than the famed Michelin-star establishments, Arora's first stop in Paris is Le Bon Georges. At this small bistro, with its chalkboard menu and convivial atmosphere, the owners are equally as invested in the quality of their farm-to-table food as they are with making their guests feel like family. Arora also cites the more high-profile Parisian establishment, Girafe, as a favorite, if for no other reason than the views of the Eiffel Tower. Hopping over to Italy, in Bergamo, Arora recommends the Michelin three-star restaurant Da Vittorio. Despite its Michelin status, Da Vittorio is completely unpretentious, the kind of place where you might have an appetizer of mini-hot dogs that will be the best you've ever had. In Rome, he says the best paccheri pasta is at Trissola. Family owned since 1910, it's about as authentic a Roman restaurant experience as you can have. Arora also discusses a recent visit to Crete and coming across a typical Greek taverna called the Blue Door. He goes on to cover everything from the emerging culinary destination of Croatia to the complex multicultural mix that is Hong Kong's dining scene. Wherever he is, Arora believes a great restaurant isn't just about being served an amazing meal, it's about the relationships cultivated with the staff and owners. It's the entire experience that's important.   Arora applies that philosophy throughout the Rosewood portfolio, from Mayakoba in Mexico—led by the dynamic chef Juan Pablo Loza—to London, Paris, Hong Kong, and beyond. He speaks with Bruce about some of the standout dining experiences—including chef-led adventures to destinations far beyond where Rosewood has hotels—that his culinary team has created. Arora also talks about what's next from Rosewood, including new hotels and resorts in Madrid, Sao Paolo, St. Barths, and more. To read more about my daughter's and my wellness stay at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas: http://suitedreamstravel.blogspot.com/2020/01/what-happens-in-vegasstays-well-in-vegas.htmlA Recipe: Handmade Mexican Corn Tortillas 1 ½ cups masa harina + more for dusting ½ teaspoon fine sea salt 2 tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil 1 cup hot water, plus more as needed 1. Place masa and salt in a bowl and thoroughly combine with the fat, missing with fingers or a whisk. Slowly stream in the water while mixing with your hands or a wooden spoon until the dough comes together in a ball. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 1 minute. Divide the dough into 12 1-ounce portions and form each into a ball. Place balls on a baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and let rest for about 30 minutes. 2. After the dough has rested, preheat a cast-iron skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, then reduce the heat to medium. 3. If the dough has dried slightly during resting, wet hands and roll each ball again to moisten. Place the dough between 2 sheets of plastic wrap and place in the center of a tortilla press. If you don’t have a tortilla press, you can use a rolling pin. Press down firmly, then turn the tortilla 90 degrees and press again, repeating 1-2 more times or until the tortilla is evenly 1/8 inch thick. 4. If the raw tortilla cracks or breaks, don’t worry! It will still taste delicious. Holding the tortilla flat in your palm, carefully peel away the plastic and transfer it into the hot skillet. Cook the tortilla until brown spots appear on the bottom, about 1 minute. Flip with a thin spatula and cook the other side. Transfer tortilla to a baking sheet and cover with a damp towel to trap the heat and moisture. Reuse the plastic for your next tortilla; it will become more pliable with each pressing. 5. While waiting to serve, keep the tortillas warm, wrapped in foil, in a 350-degree oven. You can store the tortillas tightly wrapped in plastic in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Between 2011 and 2015, as they conducted research for 'Istanbul and Beyond', Robyn and David clocked more than 16 months on the road, covering more than 15,000 miles, in Istanbul and Turkey's eastern half. Several of the regions featured in 'Istanbul and Beyond' are little referenced by food writers outside of Turkey; many recipes in the book have never before been published in English. When not reporting, writing, developing recipes, or simply traveling to eat, Robyn organises food and photography workshops with David in Turkey, Italy, and Asia.

He started his food blog, Bite and Booze, during his daily lunch breaks. The blog started from just wanting to share the stories of the meals he was eating around Baton Rouge. From that modest start he became the unofficial food mayor of Baton Rouge. Jay launched his own BBQ sauce and rub, his own wine, his own food podcast, and even his own local radio show. It's one of the reasons why she ultimately created The Culinary Travel Guide. During this week's culinary travel podcast, we talked about some of our shared food travel experiences. We have a lot in common when it comes to our experiences traveling in France for the food, although we were offering her some serious advice about planning her next Italian culinary tourism trip! According to Hebrew tradition, the area outside of the Old City Walls of Jerusalem is considered to be the center of the world.  World Footprints will explore that theory and Biblical history with Zev Orenstein at the City of David.  We'll also examine new archaeology discoveries that support the existence of King David.  Namibia is a country is great diversity.  The country is home to wildlife that can't be found anywhere else in Africa and it vast desert landscapes.  While at the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge, we break bread withn Eric Reindhart of Nambia Tracks and Trails to learn more about the country and it's commitment to conservation. If you live in a metropolitan city you have your choice of authentic international restaurants.  Small towns are not so lucky but we stumbled upon the little American midwest town of New Salem, Indiana and enjoyed a taste of Sicily at Perillo's Pizzeria.  By the way, we enjoyed the BEST pizza we've ever had!
