Send us Fan MailIn Ep. 255, a solo episode, Andrea Atherton explores the growing epidemic of loneliness and emotional disconnection affecting so many people today. Andrea shares an honest and compassionate conversation about why, despite living in the most technologically connected time in history, so many people still feel unseen, emotionally exhausted, and disconnected from themselves, others, nature, and meaningful community. Through the lens of psychology, spirituality, nervous system healing, and human connection, this episode gently uncovers the deeper emotional hunger many people are silently carrying.Andrea dives into the cultural conditioning that teaches us happiness comes through achievement, money, productivity, appearance, and external validation, while so many people secretly feel empty chasing those things. Drawing from research, including the famous seventy-five-year Harvard University study on happiness and well-being, she explores how authentic relationships, emotional safety, vulnerability, purpose, and connection are actually what nourish the human soul. This episode also touches on the rise of anxiety, addiction, burnout, social media disconnection, and the loss of community in modern life.If you have been feeling lonely, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply exhausted from constantly “holding it all together,” this episode offers both validation and hope. Andrea speaks in depth and with authenticity about how we begin finding our way back to ourselves and each other, through vulnerability, self-connection, community, nature, spirituality, and meaningful human relationships. This is an invitation to slow down, breathe, reconnect, and remember what truly matters in a world that often pulls us away from our humanity and community.30-minute Consultation with Andrea https://www.andreaatherton.com/booking-calendarAndrea Atherton Websitehttps://www.andreaatherton.com/Love Anarchy Websitehttps://www.andreaatherton.com/podcasthttps://loveanarchypodcast.buzzsprout.comLove Anarchy Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/loveanarchypodcast/Andrea Atherton Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/andreaatherton-17/
Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership with Ruth Haley Barton
Welcome back for our twenty-ninth season of the Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership podcast. This season is years in the making. We've long wanted to bring a season full of Spirit-directed conversations on the experience of being human, in all its complicated glory, but the timing was never quite right. And now, it's finally here: Season 29 | Becoming Human: With God in Our Bodies. Our goals this season are to confront the dualism between life in the body and life in the spirit, to hear stories of people who experienced their bodies as a place of encounter with God, and to explore the connection between the integration of life in our bodies and our spiritual lives with our leadership. We will be having deep, spiritual conversations with friends of the Transforming Center about their very human experiences in their bodies and how they've experienced God in and throughout these experiences. We will explore God in concrete bodily realities like gender, sexuality, race, ability, aging, illness, and death, to name a few. In this first episode Ruth helps to set up our upcoming season, laying down the biblical and foundational groundwork for embodied spirituality. Drawing on Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, she reminds us that we are “spiritual beings learning to become human.” This episode is a map to help us know where we're going this season. Ruth concludes with Brian Wren's hymn “Good is the Flesh.” Mentioned in the episode: Soulful Spirituality by David Benner How Can So Many Pastors and Leaders Be Godly and Dysfunctional at the Same Time? This is also where you find all of our podcast patron content! There are free and paid tiers. We'd love for you to join us over on Substack. Support the podcast! Justin reflects on a recent interview with Diplo about AI replacing singers and uses it as a doorway into a deeper conversation about art, product, beauty, and human value. He argues that art is not valuable because it sells or because it reaches technical perfection. Art matters because it comes from a human being in process. Drawing on examples from Diplo's collaborations, Billy Corgan's resistance to AI songwriting, CS Lewis on beauty, and Justin's own work coaching artists, this episode invites creators to resist the machine's value system and remember that the work is not the point. The human becoming through the work is. We went through 3 IUI's and 2 IVF's, over a 3 year journey trying to get pregnant, then finally - we had our baby girl. Today's conversation is a homecoming—back to the body, back to character, and back to what it means to be a man. My guest, Mark Walsh, challenges the modern habit of living entirely in our heads—cut off from sensation, boundaries, and responsibility. We talk embodiment not as fitness or aesthetics, but using physical training to develop character, emotional regulation, and presence. From Stoicism and shadow work to doing hard things on purpose, this episode is about reclaiming awareness, expanding range, and building the discipline required to choose better behavior. We also confront the cult of modernity: hyper-individualism, happiness culture, pleasure-seeking that produces pain, and the loss of religion, community, and moral formation. Mark makes the case that happiness is secondary to meaning and commitment and that true freedom is forged through discipline, not the absence of limits. Our sermon / Bible teaching is a central part of our gatherings.Matthew 1:18-2518 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave

In this episode, Fr. Anthony reframes prayer not as a spiritual transaction but as a lifelong conversation with God that restores our capacity to see, experience, and share His beauty, light, and love. Drawing on themes of theosis, maturation, and Zachary Porcu's vision of becoming human, he explores how prayer transforms our distorted desires, heals our blindness, and trains us to do the work God made us to do. The saints reveal that repentance and prayer are not a response to crises but a way of life — a steady ascent into clarity, freedom, and real communion with God and creation.

In this episode, I sit down with Psychedelic Somatic Therapist Christian Snuffer for a conversation about attunement—what it really means to be in touch with ourselves and each other, and why it's at the heart of healing. We talk about the nervous system (of course), and about how somatic awareness—paying attention to what's happening in our bodies—isn't just a side practice, but the actual doorway to healing. We explore how joy can sometimes feel just as threatening as pain when our bodies are wired for survival, and how dissociation shows up as a protective reflex when emotions feel too overwhelming.Christian brings such wisdom about the power of language, the pull of community, and the way nature herself teaches us how to return to regulation. Together, we explore why healing isn't a “problem to solve” but a process of becoming more fully human. If you've ever wondered why you avoid your feelings, why you can't quite let joy land, or why regulating yourself as a parent feels impossible some days—you're not broken. You're in the process of remembering. We also share about Christian's new Attunement Collective, a free space for people ready to deepen their somatic and relational practices with support. This one is tender, grounding, and full of those “aha” reframes that make you exhale. So good. You can connect with Christian and his work on his IG page @_attunement, and find access to his many offerings!

This Christmas, Dr. Beach Reminds Us of Our Faith's Paradox - In a World Filled with Both Joy and Suffering, the Miraculous Story of God Becoming Human Stands as a Beacon of Hope MESSAGE SUMMARY: As we gather to celebrate Christmas, we're reminded of the profound paradox at the heart of our faith. In a world filled with joy and suffering, the miraculous story of God becoming human stands as a beacon of hope. This audacious claim—that the Creator of the universe entered our world as a helpless infant—challenges our understanding and invites us to embrace a deeper truth. The Nativity story isn't just a historical event; it's a powerful symbol of God's love and commitment to humanity. In the midst of personal struggles, global conflicts, and widespread persecution, the Christmas message reminds us that we're not alone. God's incarnation in Jesus offers us the promise of transformation, forgiveness, and eternal life. As we reflect on this incredible gift, we're called to see beyond our current circumstances and recognize the divine presence that can bring healing and hope to even the darkest situations. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, God is working His will in my life. (Philippians 2:13). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: 1) The birth of Jesus: a) Luke 2:1-7 (The nativity story) and b) Matthew 1:18-25 (The birth of Jesus) 2) God becoming human: a) John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." and b) Philippians 2:6-7 "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness."; 3) Jesus' ministry and miracles: Matthew 4:23 "Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people."; 4) Forgiveness of sins and eternal life: a) John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." and b) John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."; 5) God's presence in suffering: Romans 8:38-39 "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." and 6) The transformative power of faith: 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!".
