Hunting season is upon us, but should Christians participate? Is it immoral to kill an animal, especially if it's not a threat to you? Are we dishonoring God by killing his creation? In today's episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek talk through the morality of hunting as well as biblical examples of killing animals for food. We discuss immoral ways to hunt and look at why those should be avoided, then seek to give a clear guide as to how the Bible portrays hunting. God Reveals His Response to Humbled Sinners - 11/12/2023 Sunday Sermon

God Reveals His Response to Humbled Sinners Today we will see that when God shared the components of His name, He wanted it to get into our hearts and minds that He is the God who forgives sin! Forgiveness is when you give up all claim on a debt owed to you, and treat the person as if the debt never existed going forward. The word for forgiveness is nasa (H5375), which occurs 613 times in the Hebrew O.T. Its simple meaning is to lift, to bear up, to carry off, to take away. When we confess (say the same thing about) our sins as sin, repent (change our minds about) and turn to or back to God in faith, He forgives us and restores us to right relationship with Himself. The word for iniquity is awon (H5771), which occurs in 213 verses. It means depravity or perversity and is sometimes translated punishment. God has a perfect way for us to live, but we have ‘perverted' it and deserve punishment. The word for transgression is pesa (H6588), which occurs in 91 verses. It means rebellion or offense. God is our Creator and King; we are treasonous rebels. The word for sin is hatta - at (H2403), which occurs in 296 verses. This is the word we think of when we think of sin against God, with its accompanying guilt, punishment and the need for a substitute sin-offering. “There is a way that seems right to a man – but in the end it leads to death.” -Proverbs 14:12 And he shall bring to the priest as his compensation to the Lord a ram without blemish out of the flock, or its equivalent, for a guilt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any of the things that one may do and thereby become guilty. -Lev. 4:6-7 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – everyone – to his own way; but the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. -Isa. 53:6 Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. -John 1:29 “Which one of you convicts Me of sin?” -Jesus in John 8:46 “Unless you believe that “I am,” you will die in your sins.” -Jesus in John 8:24 If my people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. -2 Chronicles 7:14 (See 2 Chr. 6:21) The opposite of pride is not humility. Pride glorifies yourself; the opposite of pride is glorifying God – finally desiring to turn to God and glorify Him in your life from now on. Humility is the foundation that leads to a life of glorifying God. As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief…godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. -2 Corinthians 7:9-10 God's jealousy is a good and holy jealousy. He really does know what's best for us based on His steadfast love and truth, and when we don't choose it, it grieves Him because we are making poor choices that won't help us flourish. God is zealous for you and jealous for you to experience what's best for you rather than the empty ways you try to fill the hole in your soul. He knows the satisfaction you are looking for will only be found in your relationship with Him.

Is it wrong to try to sell things in a church building while people are coming to worship? In today's episode, Pastor Jackie and Pastor Derek answer a question from a church member about whether selling food/items in a church building is acceptable or not. Jesus has flipped tables over before due to this sort of thing, so we seek to navigate the Scriptures carefully and see the heart behind these things and whether or not it's ever acceptable to do. "Glas fraincín ar dhoirse Stardust nuair a chuaigh sé trí thine". Evidence was given today at Dublin District Coroner's Court that the doors of Stardust were locked when the nightclub caught fire in 1981. Tugadh fianaise inniu i gCúirt Chróinéara Dhúiche Bhaile Átha Cliath go raibh doirse Stardust faoi ghlas nuair a chuaigh an club oíche trí thine sa mbliain 1981. 48 people were killed in the tragedy. Maraíodh 48 duine sa tragóid. An inquest into the death of the deceased is currently underway at the Rotunda Hospital. Tá ionchoise maidir le bás na marbh ar siúl faoi láthair, in Ospidéal an Rotunda. Michael O'Toole, who was 20 at the time, testified that a Stardust security man told him the doors were padlocked when the club caught fire. Thug Michael O'Toole, a bhí 20 bliain d'aois ag an am, fianaise go ndúirt fear slándála de chuid Stardust leis go raibh glas fraincín ar na doirse nuair a chuaigh an club trí thine. Michael O'Toole testified that the security man - Michael Kavanagh - told him after the incident that he intended to bring a lawsuit: "I'll get everything 'he's got". Thug Michael O'Toole fianaise go ndúirt an fear slándála - Michael Kavanagh - leis i ndiaidh na heachtra go raibh sé i gceist aige cás dlí a thabhairt: "gheobhaidh mé gach a bhfuil 'aige'. They were unable to escape. Ní rabhadar in ann éalú. There was a french lock on the doors", said Michael Kavanagh, according to Michael O'Toole. Bhí glas fraincín ar na doirse", a dúirt Michael Kavanagh, dar le Michael O'Toole. Michael O'Toole was asked if he thought who Michael Kavanagh was referring to when he made that statement. Cuireadh ceist ar Michael O'Toole an raibh barúil aige cén duine a raibh Michael Kavanagh ag tagairt dó nuair a rinne sé an ráiteas sin. Michael O'Toole replied that he was talking about Éamon Butterly, Stardust's manager at the time. D'fhreagair Michael O'Toole gur ar Éamon Butterly, bainisteoir Stardust, a raibh sé ag caint ag an am. Michael O'Toole also testified that Michael Kavanagh told him that he was ashamed that he was working there as a security man. Thug Michael O'Toole fianaise freisin go ndúirt Michael Kavanagh leis go raibh náire air go raibh sé ag obair ansin mar fhear slándála. "We were always told to lock the doors", Michael Kavanagh told Michael O'Toole, he said in his evidence today. "Dúradh linn i gcónaí na doirse a chur faoi ghlas", a dúirt Michael Kavanagh le Michael O'Toole, a dúirt se ina chuid fianaise inniu. Michael Kavanagh told gardai and the media in 1981 that the emergency exits were open when the club caught fire. Dúirt Michael Kavanagh leis na Gardaí agus leis na meáin i 1981 go raibh na bealaí éalaithe éigeandála ar oscailt nuair a chuaigh an club trí thine. But he later retracted the statement. Ach tharraing sé an ráiteas siar ina dhiaidh. Last September, Michael Kavanagh gave evidence directly to the inquest himself. Mí Mheán Fómhair seo caite, thug Michael Kavanagh fianaise go díreach don ionchoise é fhéin. He said that when the tragedy happened, he felt that he was being blamed. Dúirt sé gur nuair a tharla an tragóid, gur bhraith sé go ndearnadh ceap milleáin dó. He testified that after speaking to his father and sister, he went to the Gardaí to change his statement. Thug sé fianaise gur i ndiaidh dó labhairt lena athair agus a dheirfiúr, go ndeachaigh sé chuig na Gardaí lena ráiteas a athrú. An inquest is currently underway into the deaths of those killed in the 1981 Stardust Tragedy. In Pursuit of Development
Political Constraints in Growth and Development: Moving beyond talking about them to actually tackling them – Peter Evans

In Pursuit of Development

Although political constraints have significant negative impacts on development, mainstream approaches to addressing these issues are often primarily technical and lack a willingness to understand and address political economy factors. Despite decades of technical efforts in sectors like health, education, and climate, some critical problems persist, such as drug supply losses, tree planting failures, and chronic absenteeism in health and education. Peter Evans is a governance specialist with wide-ranging experience and expertise across international development and social research. He holds a PhD in medical geography and was previously Team Leader of the Governance, Conflict, Inclusion and Humanitarian Research Team at the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). In this role, Peter designed and led the Anti-Corruption Evidence (ACE) programme. Until recently, he was director of the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre at the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) in Bergen. @PeterEvans_GuvPeter argues that the supply of practical political economy research is limited and often falls short of practicality and accessibility, shaped more by researchers' interests and fund availability than the needs of policymakers or practitioners. Political economy research is further hindered by its sensitivity and riskiness, making it challenging for researchers, particularly in politically unstable or corrupt environments. On the demand side, there is a lack of structured efforts to understand and address political constraints in global investments for growth and development. Politics is often relegated to a risk rather than a problem to be understood and engaged with. And many actors in the field, including national governments, bilateral agencies, and multilateral organizations, often avoid addressing political economy factors, which hinders effective development outcomes.ResourcesGambling on corruption, and making the political more practicalWhen evidence is thin...

Psalm 42 and 43 Worksheet This is the first Psalm of Book ________________ This is the first Psalm attributed to someone other then ____________________ Who was Korah? 1 Chronicles 6:31-38 1 Chr. 12:1-7 2 Chr. 20:13-19 Originally Psalm 42 and 43 were probably ________________ Psalm, like 9 & 10. Is there a phrase that is repeated in these 2 Psalms? 42:5 42:11 43:5 An Outline: First “verse”: A lament (42:1-4) Chorus (42:5) Second “verse”: A lament (42:6-10) Chorus (42:11) Third “verse”: A petition (43:1-4) Chorus (43:5) This is one of the “Trouble and _________________” Psalms. What is new about how God is addressed in verse 1? In verse 2, the Psalmist is sad because he desperately wants to meet with God, but feels complete __________________ between him and God. In verse 3, far from finding that refreshing drink, the Psalmist is having to drink his own _______________. Verses 4-6 indicate this may have been written during the time of exile in ______________. The location in verse 6 is in the north of the country, where what becomes the Jordan River starts as a ____________________ off of Mount Hermon. Verse 7 seems to indicate that the only “water” he is experiencing is the “flood of ___________________” that has been allowed by God. He immediately turns back to trust in verse eight, which is neat because it is the ___________________ of the two psalms. Have you ever gone back and forth between worry and trust, fear and faith? According to Psalm 42-43, you are _____________________. He lamented in Psalm 42; Psalm 43 is his _____________________. We do well to join the Psalmist in the prayer of verse 3: “Send Your light and Your truth; let them ________________ me to where you live, God!” When we are distressed, and around us things seem to be changing for the worse, we must put our hope in our ____________________ God and Savior!

Redigering: Lars in de Betou.

Autorin: Christine Hamel
