Chr. war es für den babylonischen König Belsazar jedoch tatsächlich »zu spät«. Inmitten der Bedrohung durch die Meder und Perser feierte er ein prunkvolles Fest. Dabei entweihte er die heiligen Gefäße aus dem Jerusalemer Tempel und machte sich über den Gott Israels lustig. Er verließ sich auf sein großes und mächtiges Babylon, das als uneinnehmbar galt. Doch plötzlich erschien mitten auf der Party eine Hand und schrieb an die Wand: »Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin«. Diese Worte waren eine Botschaft Gottes und bedeuteten Folgendes: Belsazars Reich war gewogen und für zu leicht befunden worden – sein Lebensende war beschlossene Sache. Noch in derselben Nacht wurde der König von den Persern besiegt und getötet. Für Belsazar war es zu spät. Er hatte Gottes Warnungen und Gebote ignoriert, sich über Gott erhoben. Ein warnendes Beispiel für uns.Denn auch für uns kann es ein »zu spät« geben. Wenn wir einmal vor Gott stehen werden, können wir aufgrund unserer Sünden vor ihm nicht bestehen. Doch es gibt die gute Nachricht: Wenn Sie diese Zeilen lesen, ist es noch nicht zu spät. Sie können Ihre Sünden noch loswerden. Gott hat seinen Sohn Jesus geschickt, der am Kreuz die Strafe für unsere Sünden auf sich genommen hat. Wenn wir unser Vertrauen auf ihn allein setzen, schenkt er uns seine Gerechtigkeit, durch die wir vor Gott bestehen können. Stan Rougier, depuis l'Ascension 2021, nous accompagne chaque année dans la célébration de cette fête religieuse qui marque le retour du Christ vers le Père. Cette année, alors qu'il va fêter dans un mois son 96ème anniversaire, c'est une grande joie de retrouver cet homme qui ne cesse de monter vers le Ciel depuis près d'un siècle…L'an passé, nous avions quitté un homme un peu plus fatigué et inquiet pour le monde autant que pour sa santé. Il ne cachait pas sa crainte que cette rencontre de mai 2025 fut la dernière. Quelques mois plus tard, en collaboration avec Béatrice Guibert qui accompagne ses travaux depuis de longues années, Stan Rougier étonne à nouveau en publiant un nouveau livre au titre magnifique : Entends-tu battre le cœur des autres ?Dans sa jolie maison du sud parisien, nous nous sommes rencontrés, à trois jours seulement de la fête de l'Ascension 2026. Pendant des minutes délicieuses, nous avons échangé sur l'appel auquel Stan Rougier a répondu pour écrire un vrai plaidoyer pour la fraternité humaine.Certes, nous vivons des temps étranges, dans un « monde bousculé par les convulsions de haine et de violence ». Pour Stan Rougier, il n'en est que plus urgent de proclamer, une nouvelle fois, que l'avenir est à la tendresse. Et d'énumérer tant de faits, connus ou inconnus, qui révèlent l'immense bonté en chacun et chacune de nous.« Appartenir à la communauté humaine recèle bien des surprises », confie Stan Rougier. Son appel à la fraternité est un rappel au respect mutuel, à l'accepter de nos différence, à la solidarité, et à l'ouverture.Il est grand temps « d'élargir l'espace de notre tente », nous dit-il. En convoquant toutes les grandes spiritualités, grâce aux « mystiques qui parlent la même langue parce qu'ils habitent le même pays », en énumérant les qualités profondes des grandes religions, Stan Rougier s'émerveille de sa foi en Dieu, particulièrement celui des Chrétiens, qui est un Dieu d'amour et de compassion.Il est temps aussi d'écouter battre le coeur des autres, ceux qui sont loin de nous, et peut-être encore plus ceux qui sont proches de nous, avec qui il est parfois plus difficile, en fait, de s'entendre. Renouvelée chaque année depuis 2021, cette rencontre marque pour moi un des temps forts de l'année.Lorsque je le quitte, à la fin de chaque enregistrement, je me pose la question si j'aurai la joie de le retrouver l'année suivante. Comme avant-hier, lorsque je l'ai salué une dernière fois, après m'être penché vers lui jusqu'à toucher son front du mien, comme à chaque fois.Les rencontres avec Stan Rougier sont remplies de lumière et de tendresse. Avec elles, il y a aussi la fragilité, l'incertitude même que nous parvenions à mener un entretien en raison de son grand-âge. Celle-ci me gagne toujours alors que se réduisent les kilomètres qui me rapprochent de lui. Aura-t-il oubllé notre rendez-vous ? Aura-t-il suffisamment d'énergie pour répondre à mes questions ?J'avais les mêmes incertitudes lors de mes deux dernières rencontres avec Annick de Souzenelle. À la différence de Stan Rougier qui se rapproche tout près du centenaire, Annick l'avait déjà franchi. Avec elle aussi, même si celle-ci ne se disait pas forcément dans nos micros, je garde les souvenirs de rencontres remplies de lumière et de tendresse.C'est avec émotion que je diffuse aujourd'hui l'épisode avec un homme dont la longue vie est une magnifique ascension vers le Ciel. Avec étonnement, je l'ai entendu parler de son émerveillement ébloui face à la beauté d'un amour divin qu'il trouve de plus en plus beau.En même temps, Stan Rougier nous parle d'un amour infiniment concret. C'est là la simplicité, l'humilité presque d'un amour divin qui est aux devants de tous les instants de nos vies.C'est un amour qui nous accompagne, nous renforce et nous soutient tout le temps. C'est en lui que je confie les fatigues et les attentes du moment. Ces derniers jours, entre la Dordogne, la Région puis la Banlieue Parisienne, l'Anjou et le cœur de la Bretagne, j'enchaîne les voyages à la rencontre des Hommes et des Femmes qui ont répondu à mes invitations.Je me sens porté par tant de messages, d'échanges de plus en plus nombreux, merveilleux et enrichissants, avec tant d'entre vous. Umay Acar-Sümer |Writer and Composer of ‘Beowulf the MusicalBio:Umay Acar-Sümer is a Turkish singer and composer based in Hampshire, UK. Having completed an MA in Medieval Studies and MMus in Music Composition at Royal Holloway, Umay draws inspiration from medieval literature and history in her writing. She is the writer and composer of ‘Beowulf the Musical', a two-act musical made up of 35 song based on the medieval epic poem Beowulf. ‘Beowulf the Musical' premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 with Umay playing the role of Freawaru; the musical is now set to release an album with many of the original cast and orchestra members reprising their roles. Umay's writing influences include late medieval authors like Geoffrey Chaucer, Sir Thomas Malory and Chrétien de Troyes as well as anonymous poems from the Anglo-Saxon period such as The Wanderer, The Battle of Maldon and The Seafarer. Musically she is inspired by contemporary composers such as Alan Menken, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lin Manuel Miranda and Anais Mitchell as well as the works of Handel, Verdi, Mozart and Strauss. Scripture Reading: Revelation 20:1-10 In light of the multiplied and complicated problems of our world, it is clear that what the world needs is a king … someone to rule in divine wisdom and perfect justice and holy compassion.  A king is exactly what God promised to David and through David, in what is usually called the Davidic Covenant. "When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. . . .  I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever" (1 Chr 17:11,14).  This is the earthly kingdom prophesied in the Old Testament and specifically detailed in Revelation 20:1-6.  "And to him [Messiah] was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him" (Dan 7:14).  "They (tribulation martyrs) came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years" (Rev 20:4). The King will come and He will establish His kingdom.  It will be a kingdom of peace (Isa 9:6,7) … justice (Jer 23:5,6) … holy sovereignty (Rev 19:11-21) …  and eternal duration (Dan 7:13,14).   It is the coming of Christ and His promised rule that comforts us in the face of our fears and steels us in the face of our weaknesses.  "The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign forever and ever" (Rev 11:15).  The goal of all creation is the everlasting honor of the triune God.  When we are consumed with God's glory then, and only then, will we work and pray and groan for Christ to have a name in all the earth.
