In this powerful episode, host Lisa Malia sits down with Leslie Ferris Yerger, CEO and founder of My Density Matters, for an intimate and eye-opening conversation about breast density, advocacy, and early detection of breast cancer. If you've ever wondered why breast density is such a critical, yet often overlooked, part of the breast cancer conversation, this episode is a must-listen. Lisa and Leslie share their personal stories as breast cancer survivors and passionate advocates, revealing how their own experiences with missed diagnoses due to dense breast tissue ignited their mission to empower women with crucial information. Leslie recounts her shocking diagnosis of stage four metastatic breast cancer just two months after an “all clear” mammogram and ultrasound—a story that highlights the urgent need for better awareness and screening options. Together, they discuss what women should know about lobular cancer, the limitations of traditional screenings, why advocacy is so important, and what steps everyone can take to protect themselves and their loved ones. They also touch on barriers to care, tips on understanding your risk and screening reports, and the grassroots power of women supporting one another. Tune in for a moving and educational conversation that might just change how you think about breast health—and give you exactly the tools you need to advocate for yourself and others. Wine, sugar, shopping, scrolling, chips, porn, and even exercise — these aren't just habits. For many over 40, they become coping mechanisms to deal with unprocessed emotional pain. In this powerful and eye-opening episode, Dr. Jannine Krause sits down with Rachel Graham, CEO and Co-founder of Healing Springs Ranch, in Tioga, Texas, to explore the often overlooked world of process addictions — and why they commonly emerge or worsen in midlife. You'll learn: ✅ What process addictions actually are — and how they differ from substance abuse ✅ Why midlife events like divorce, empty nesting, and hormone shifts (hello, estradiol and testosterone crashes) can spike addictive behaviors ✅ Why sugar cravings aren't just about willpower — and why even health pros like Dr. Krause aren't immune ✅ The crucial role of family involvement in the healing process ✅ Why treating addictions separately often fails — and what it takes to heal the root cause: emotional pain ✅ How to stop feeling ashamed — and start getting curious about your behavior Dr. Krause shares her own story of feeling out of control with chips and chocolate — and what she learned about the real drivers of compulsive habits. If you've ever felt like you're “better than this” but still find yourself reaching for things to numb or distract — this episode is for you.

We have published 120 episodes since 2019. For this new season, we thought it would be a good idea to look back on some of the highlights of our conversations and select 20 episodes that resonated with veterans, service members, military families, and the civilians who support them. But first up, you'll hear from some of the folks at Home Base who wake up every day with the same mission in mind, no matter what they do at the Center of Excellence in the Navy Yard and beyond. Welcome back to Home Base Nation! For this episode, you will hear a brief conversation with Air Force Veteran and Family Support Team Manager, Stacie Frederiksson, who has worked in the non-profit arena serving veterans and their families for the past 15 years. Stacie served 14 years on active duty in the Air Force as an intelligence officer, supporting flying and space operations, before transferring to the Air Force Reserves, where she spent the last 9 years of her career at USCYBERCOM, retiring in 2016.Following the conversation with Stacie, you'll hear an episode featuring award-winning storyteller and filmmaker Spike Lee, recorded in London, England, in 2019. Home Base caught up with the legendary director before the first-ever Red Sox–Yankees game at the London Stadium. Although we were not happy with the series outcome, Mr. Lee was indeed a lifelong Yankee fan. Ron and Spike discuss some of the history of service by Black Americans and get a preview of his Vietnam War Film, early released at the time, Da5Bloods.Many thanks to Stacie Frederiksson for all her work at Home Base in support of this mission to stomp stigma and treat the invisible wounds of veterans and military families.Run To Home Base: Join Ron and his team and sign up individually or on another team at the 16th annual Run To Home Base on July 26th, 2025, at Fenway Park!
