The purpose of this podcast is to help you find healing for your wounds; find hope in your despair; find intimacy in your loneliness; find refuge from the storms of life; Basically, to help you find a deeper walk with Jesus. There is one thing I know after having lived all these years: God wastes nothing. Not our sorrows. Not our wounds. Not even our failures.  Hi. I am your host, Dennis Jernigan, and I am so excited about the next few weeks of the Dennis Jernigan podcast because I absolutely love the subject matter that we're covering. I really do.  For the past few weeks I have been sharing the stories behind songs inspired by a fantasy book series I wrote for my children and grandchildren…but something I have forgotten to tell you (I will blame my forgetfulness on the Parkinson's) is that the underlying reason I wrote these stories was to paint an allegorical picture of what it means to come to Christ for salvation and how to view the word from Christ's point of view. I wrote the books in such a way that people would not be deterred from reading the books if they felt they had overtly religious undertones. You will be able to find pictures of Jesus and discovering none's identity in Christ painted throughout The Chronicles of Bren.  And there's one more thing to tell you. I have actually written 2 series of books. The first series is called The Chronicles of Bren Trilogy and the second series (which is about to have its 4th book completed) called The Bairns of Bren. This second series features my grandchildren as the heroes of the stories and it has become quite a wild ride. I'll let you know when book 4 in that series is available.  You are used to hearing me share the stories behind songs of worship and praise; songs of ministry; songs of comfort; songs from Father God's heart to ours…but the song I am sharing today was inspired by a 3-book series of fantasy novels I wrote for my children and grandchildren way back in 2015. The first book in this three-book series is called Captured (Book 1 in The Chronicles of Bren Trilogy). You may be asking yourself, “Why would a worship leader and song receiver write  series of books and songs about a fantasy world?”  I won't share everything that has led me to the writing of fantasy novels. You can simply listen to the podcasts from the episode called “Riding the Wind” all the way up to today's episode in order to catch up.   This week's song, “Creatures”, was received sometime in 2015 0r 2016 is a very scary song and was intended to paint a picture of the evil that is at work in the spiritual realm. Some of the creatures are good. Some are evil. My goal was to teach my children and grandchildren to walk in discernment and to trust their consciences and to remember that the enemy sometimes presents himself as an angel of light.  My desire is that my grandchildren would learn to be vigilant because the enemy goes about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour with his lies. I'll just mention a few of the lyrics that are meant to instill that vigilance.  Better watch out.  Better watch out When you pass through Forest or valley Whatever you do Better watch out Better watch  Whatever you do Better be watching  But who's watching who?  Following is a list of the creatures found in Bren. Ogres, Werewolves, Terrebithians (a race of men who live under the ground), Hawken (Hawk people who are faifthul to Bren), Wolfen (wolf people who are faithful to Bren), and Treesant (faithful, yet cautious of Bren). Swine rats, demons, unicorns (always good), dragons (fifty fifty chance of being good), fiends (never a good thing), Witches (never good), warlocks (never good).   Captured is a tale as old as time. Day at war with night. I painted a saga of peril and balanced it with faith, because I want my grandchildren to know life is not always easy but it always best lived by walking in faith with Jesus Christ. In this story The Founders represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Let me highlight a couple of the creatures to give you some insight as to why I created them. Sylvan – Treesants – These people of the forest – tree spirits, if you will – were inspired by my love for the woods. On our farm, we have acres and acres of forest. In fact, my sons and I have cut trails through the forest and have built a campground in those woods. The campground sits atop a small hill we have dubbed Stirling Mountain after the famous battle of Stirling depicted in the movie about William Wallace, Braveheart.  As a teenager studying vocational agriculture, I actually spent time studying trees and was tested on identifying various species native to Oklahoma. Throughout the history of fantasy and mythological writings there have been depictions of tree spirits. I had to include my own version in this story. The Treesants – Sylvan in particular – represent the mystery of life and the joy of trying to unravel the mystery…which Leonolis never does. But I don't think he will ever stop trying. After all, isn't that where the fun is? Swine Rats – This particular creature was conjured up in my mind by the various wild animals I have experienced throughout my life – especially when growing up in the country. We often see coyotes and deer and bobcats and skunks and woodchucks and raccoons and squirrels and possums. When I was a boy in FFA, I had show animals. I bought my first pig to show at livestock shows when I was a freshman in high school. The pig was purchased from a friend who lived ten miles away. After getting the pig home and placed in the enclosure I had prepared for her, she promptly escaped! I searched for a couple of weeks to no avail. After a futile period of searching, I gave up. A week after my search ended I receive a call from the friend I had bought the pig from. He told me the pig had come back to his birthplace! As I secured the enclosure and went to once again bring my pig home, I could not help but imagine what she had endured and all she might have gone through just to make it those weeks alone in her incredible journey. All of that helped inspire the swine rats. I combined rats with a pig just because rats personify dirty, rotten, scoundrels, soaked in evil to me!  My grandchildren love to scare me and I love to scare them when it is apprpriate. I do not want them to walk in fear but learn to discern when fear comes it can serve as a warning to be alert and to get themselves out of harm's way if necessary. This is meant to be a scary song and is meant to remind us to walk in the light but walk prepared to stand against the darkness with the light of Jesus Christ. SONG [1Pe 5:8 NIV] 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  I believe the roar of the enemy, Satan, is simply lies…noise meant to cause fear and to lead to temptation. I also believe he is like a lion who, though he makes a lot of noise, has no teeth because his only power over us is deception. It would do us all good to remember that.  I hope this series of songs on my podcast has not been too off-putting for you. These stories truly do give me an inside track to the hearts of my grand children. Many of them are getting old enough now to understand the allegory and the meaning behind it and for that I am grateful.  I hope you find joy and encouragement as you read the books and listen to the songs. They really are refreshing ways to help you find Jesus even through the most difficult times of life.  Thanks for tuning in to The Dennis Jernigan Podcast. Biographies are very interesting.  The are hundreds that have been made over the years that have not only been entertaining but also are educational in some way. Learning about an event or a person that has made an impact in some way in the past, in a movie, has always been something fans have been going to the theatre ever since the start of cinema.  Obviously, we want some truth to what we are watching.  So in retrospect, it is very disappointing to find out how inauthentic Braveheart's story is. Mel Gibson directed and starred in this epic film about William Wallace, a man who helped give Scotland its independence from England. However, was he truthful with what actually took place? Does it matter? After 30 years, does this film still hold up? Is it still worthy of the top prize at the Academy Awards? Listen to film critic Jack Ferdman's take on it as he analyzes everything about Braveheart, as well as many other films from that year, and hear which film he gives his Rewatch Oscar of 1995.Download, listen, and share ALL Rewatching  Oscar episodes.SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW Rewatching Oscar:Website: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comApple Podcasts/iTunesSpotifyGoogle PodcastsiHeart RadioPodchaserPodcast AddictTuneInAlexaAmazon Overcasts Podcast Addict Player FMRSS Feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1815964.rssWebsite: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comSocial Media Links: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSkyShare your thoughts and suggestions with us through:Facebook Messanger or email us atjack@rewatchingoscar.com or jackferdman@gmail.comMusic by TurpacShow Producer: Jack FerdmanPodcast Logo Design: Jack FerdmanMovie (audio) trailer courtesy of MovieClips Classic TrailersMovie (audio) clips courtesy of YouTubeSupport us by downloading, sharing, and giving us a 5-star Rating.  It helps our podcast continue to reach many people and make it available to share more episodes with everyone.Send us a text

Część I: Kolebka – w krainie mgieł i wojowników Zaczynamy w czasach pierwszych osadników, którzy zamieszkiwali te tereny już tysiące lat temu. Część II: Unia – krew, pot i miecz Przez wieki Szkoci walczyli o swoją niepodległość, a legendy takich bohaterów jak William Wallace i Robert Bruce do dziś budzą podziw. • Wojna o niepodległość – jak Wallace i Bruce pokonali Anglików? Jakie taktyki stosowali przeciw liczniejszym wojskom króla Edwarda I? In this episode of The Wandering Pilgrims, we journey through the remarkable life of John Gill, a monumental figure in Reformed theology whose unwavering commitment to Scripture has profoundly influenced the church. Born on November 23, 1697, in Kettering, England, Gill displayed a remarkable intellect from an early age, mastering Latin, Greek, and even teaching himself Hebrew by the age of 11. His passion for biblical languages paved the way for a life dedicated to theological scholarship. Gill's spiritual awakening began with a transformative sermon by William Wallace, leading him to join the Kettering Baptist Church. By 19, he answered the call to ministry, captivating congregations with his profound biblical insights. In 1719, he took on the role of pastor at the strict Baptist church in Horselyown, where he would serve faithfully for over 50 years. His sermons were characterized by their depth and clarity, rooted firmly in Reformed doctrine. Among Gill's most significant contributions are his Verse by Verse Commentary on the Bible and A Body of Doctrinal and Practical Divinity, which collectively provide a thorough exposition of Reformed theology, emphasizing God's sovereignty, grace, and the covenant of redemption. Despite facing accusations of Hyper Calvinism due to his strong stance on predestination and election, Gill's rigorous scholarship and commitment to the authority of Scripture remain undisputed. His influence reached notable theologians such as Charles Spurgeon, who revered Gill's theological insights. Today, John Gill is celebrated as a scholar-pastor whose life exemplifies a dedication to the faithful exposition of God's Word. His legacy inspires us to ground our faith in Scripture and pursue a deeper understanding of God's truths. In 2011, the night before Christmas, a mother of 3 and student Za'Zell Preston was murdered hours after leaving a Christmas Eve party in California. On Christmas morning her body was found propped up on the sofa, wearing sunglasses, watching her children open presents, in an apartment covered in blood. Her husband William Wallace made phone calls to the entire family, before finally agreeing to call an Ambulance for Za'Zell. But shortly after calling that Ambulance, William would find himself incarcerated awaiting trial, for almost a decade. For the 3 years leading up to her death, William had subjected Za'Zell to a relationship from hell. William's abuse had put Za'Zell in hospital multiple times and he promised to kill her if she ever left Za'Zell would share her emotional turmoil in love on Facebook and desperately tried to fix the man she loved most, even enrolling to study domestic violence herself. But in 2011, with plans to finally leave him for good and become a counsellor to help other women break free from domestic violence, Za'Zell's time to escape with her life, would tragically run out. Buckle up for this comprehensive Braveheart (1995) Movie Review—a journey into the heart of one of Hollywood's most iconic films.Few films, like Braveheart, have managed to carve a lasting legacy in cinematic and cultural history. Released in 1995, this historical epic directed by and starring Mel Gibson became an instant classic, captivating audiences with its sweeping storytelling, larger-than-life battles, and deeply emotional core. For this week's episode of Born to Watch, we're diving headfirst into this towering masterpiece, analysing how its themes of freedom, love, and sacrifice resonate decades later. A Hero Rises: The Story of William WallaceAt its core, Braveheart tells the story of William Wallace, a Scottish warrior who leads a rebellion against the oppressive English rule of King Edward I. The film opens with a hauntingly serene Scottish countryside juxtaposed with the brutal reality of English occupation. After a devastating personal loss, Wallace transforms from a reluctant farmer into a passionate freedom fighter. Mel Gibson's portrayal of Wallace is both gritty and charismatic, embodying the very spirit of defiance that fuels the film's narrative. The screenplay, penned by Randall Wallace (no relation to the historical figure), balances historical inspiration with a touch of artistic liberty. While purists may critique its deviations from recorded history, the film's emotional truth—its depiction of sacrifice, unity, and resistance—rings powerfully true.Mel Gibson's Vision: Direction and PerformanceMel Gibson's dual role as director and lead actor is one of the film's defining achievements. His direction imbues Braveheart with a sense of grandeur rarely seen in modern cinema. The sweeping shots of the Scottish Highlands serve as a breathtaking backdrop, while the intimate close-ups capture the raw human emotion behind every battle cry. Gibson's commitment to authenticity extends to the brutal, unflinching depiction of medieval warfare, which remains shocking and visually stunning. As William Wallace, Gibson delivers one of the most memorable performances of his career. His impassioned speeches, particularly the iconic "They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!" moment, are the stuff of cinematic legend. Gibson's portrayal of Wallace is deeply layered, presenting him not just as a warrior but as a man burdened by grief, love, and the weight of his people's hopes.Epic Battles, Epic StakesNo Braveheart review would be complete without acknowledging its jaw-dropping battle sequences. From the clash at Stirling Bridge to the final, gut-wrenching moments of Wallace's sacrifice, the film's action is both visceral and meticulously crafted. Cinematographer John Toll's use of handheld cameras during battles immerses viewers in the chaos, while James Horner's soaring score underscores every charge, every cry, and every victory with haunting beauty. The brutality of the battles isn't just spectacle—it's storytelling. Every sword swing, every desperate shout is a reminder of what's at stake: a nation's freedom and identity. Gibson doesn't shy away from the costs of war, making Braveheart as much about the price of liberty as its pursuit.Themes That ResonateAt its heart, Braveheart is more than just a historical epic; it's a meditation on universal themes that continue to resonate today. The film explores the tension between individual desires and collective responsibility, the sacrifices demanded by leadership, and the unyielding pursuit of justice in the face of tyranny.Wallace's unwavering dedication to freedom, even at the cost of his life, is an enduring symbol of resistance against oppression. It's no surprise that Braveheart has become a touchstone for movements and individuals seeking to inspire courage and change.Cultural and Historical ImpactBraveheart was met with widespread acclaim upon its release, winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Its success sparked a renewed interest in medieval and historical dramas, paving the way for films like Gladiator and The Last Samurai.Critically, Braveheart has faced scrutiny over its historical inaccuracies. However, its ability to capture the emotional essence of the Scottish struggle for independence has made it a beloved cultural artifact, particularly in Scotland, where it helped reignite national pride.Flaws Worth MentioningWhile Braveheart soars in many aspects, it's not without its flaws. Historical purists may bristle at its liberties with the timeline and events of Wallace's life. Characters like Princess Isabella of France are romanticised to the point of fantasy, which can detract from the film's otherwise grounded emotional core. The film's depiction of the English as uniformly villainous has also been criticised for lacking nuance. However, these critiques pale compared to the sheer impact and resonance of the story. Why It Still MattersNearly three decades after its release, Braveheart continues to inspire and entertain. Its combination of grand storytelling, unforgettable performances, and universal themes has ensured its place in the pantheon of cinematic greats. For modern viewers, the film serves as both a thrilling spectacle and a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of freedom. In today's world, where the fight for justice and autonomy remains a constant, Braveheart feels as relevant as ever. Its message—that courage and conviction can change the course of history—rings true, reminding us all of the power of a single voice.Final VerdictBraveheart is more than just a movie; it's an experience. From its sweeping cinematography to its heart-pounding battles, from its unforgettable performances to its stirring themes, this film is a testament to the enduring power of storytelling. Whether revisiting it for the hundredth time or experiencing it for the first, Braveheart remains a must-watch for lovers of epic cinema. So, grab your kilts, swords, and courage—this Braveheart (1995) Movie Review is just the beginning of our journey into one of the most powerful films ever made. I brought it from the womb And will take it to the dust. Place chains on my wrists, yet I am free; Make my walls into iron bars, yet I am free For my mind is unchainable and My heart uncageable. Abdication is my only threat. I'm Socrates free I'm William Wallace free. I'm Solomon Northrup free. I'm Viktor Frankl free. I am Human; I am Free - It's in my marrow. In this episode, I read my poem, “In My Marrow,” and discussed the principle of belonging to ourselves and the importance of knowing who we are what are values are. In doing so, I drew upon the wisdom of Maya Angelou, Brene Brown, Solzhenitsyn, Nietzsche and Jung.I'd love to hear what you have to say about the episode including thoughts on the poetry and the topics that were discussed. Thought For Today

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 1st of August, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” It's a beautiful scripture but do you see how the eyes of the Lord have to go to and fro throughout the whole earth to find a loyal man, a loyal woman? Loyalty - it's very high in the ranks of the Lord. The Oxford Dictionary calls “loyalty” - a strong feeling of support, faithfulness, devotion, and commitment. Hebrews 13:5, Jesus says: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” He is loyal to us. We can depend on God for He has never once let His people down. On the other hand, betrayal is a terrible thing, folks. It is a terrible thing to have to work through. It's called a “breach of trust”. Now, Peter the Disciple knew that, didn't he, when he betrayed the Lord three times. Matthew 26:75: “So he went out and wept bitterly.”Please don't do it! Don't cheat on your wife, don't cheat on your husband, don't cheat on the company that you work for, don't speak to others about confidential matters. Be loyal, don't be disrespectful. It is extremely destructive. Do you remember that movie, “Braveheart'? Do you remember that part in the movie where William Wallace, who was basically winning the battle, saw Robert the Bruce, the future King of Scotland, be disloyal towards the Scottish people, and was found to be on the side of the English? When he knocked him off his horse and he pulled the helmet off his head, William Wallace saw his future king who had betrayed the Scottish people, and he sat down and he gave up at that very moment. He was so devastated by the disloyalty of his future king.I want to say to you today, don't do it! The Lord is looking for loyal people that He can depend on, that He can trust, irrespective of the situation. Be loyal to the Lord because He loves you so much and He will never let you down. You can depend on Him.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.

There's something about Scotland that holds a special place in our hearts here at the Institute of Higher Learning. The Highlands, the moors, the lochs, the rolling hills, the accent, scotch whiskey, the people who date back more than 8,000 yrs before Britain's recorded history. A land constantly trying to fight for its independence against pretty much one enemy to the south (England). Scotland's history is so vast and rich we need two episodes to attempt to do it justice.

Welcome to Gospel Rant and God's Love for the Unlovable Show. We are in the last stages of our journey through the book of Hebrews: Chapter 12. In the end, says the author of Hebrews, if you want to stop your ongoing spiritual drift, if you want to stop spiritual dullness and be free from shame and guilt, you need faith. If you want to feel more that Jesus adores you as much as the Father loves the Son and the Son loves the Father, you need this powerful filling of the Spirit daily.
