Do you wanna play? Name a creative art and Meghan DeRoma has most likely played with it or practiced it with discipline. These days Meghan makes thoughtful things to delight kiddos. And that, you know, delights their parents. Her love for art in any form led to a career in the chaotic world of branding, graphic design, and marketing; working on brands like Target and Old Navy. Meghan's unique mix of creativity + experience has manifested into her company Wannaplé. Leading it with her cofounder and sister-in-law Christine, they make a wonderful character-building brand called Silly Street and another fabulous game called Animal Act. Still flexing her creative muscle for brands like Tom's along with creating children's books and expanding Wannaplé, Meghan has found a way to piece together a life that gives her the opportunities to chase her creative whims and dreams - all while parenting two young guys of her own with her creative director husband.
Fear is a funny thing. Funny as in odd. But also... funny; as evidenced in this conversation about fear of all kinds. We're reminiscing about childhood fears, family stories about spooky events, and movies that scared us. We share some cry-inducing laughs over scaredy-cat moments in our relationship. We also dive into fears such as anxiety, insecurities + self-doubt, fear of the more devastating kind, and so on.
59: Chasing a Dream Bigger Than You w/ Sarah Hartley by Randy + Misty Bradley
The root of creativity must be nurtured and tended to if you long for it to grow into something meaningful and prolific. And maybe “nurturer” is one of most accurate titles that could be given to Annie Kate Jones. It's hard to define Annie and that's a good thing. She is a dreamer + writer + illustrator + friend + mentor. She prefers to focus on the qualities she wishes to possess rather than titles or description. Annie has been an artist of words since middle school and continues to grow in various creative expressions. Our conversation with her is tainted with wisdom and wonder and we chat about education, innovation, collaboration, creative empathy, poetry, Seinfeld, music, and how a Love List rescued some of us from the jaws of depression.
Are you ready for a spirited conversation about curiosity, desire, and a little something on the side? You may remember Caitlin Horton from episode 45: Boldly Go + Get Things Done. You know, the cool girl living in Shanghai who holds four degrees, speaks multiple languages and is currently learning another. She is a published author + brand designer + business strategist. We invited Caitlin back to talk about side projects aka passion projects. We chat about exploring and adventuring (this girl gets around!), her newest endeavor, co-hosting Memphis Type History the podcast, and the book that started it all.
We are blown away by the candor and wisdom of wildly successful artist and illustrator Marta Spendowska. She chats with us about artistic influences, self-awareness, passion, and how art has brought healing and restoration to her life and relationships. We learn how showing up is more important to creating than mere inspiration and hear her best advice to aspiring artists. Marta is every bit as deep and beautiful as her paintings.
55: Weird is Wonderful — Part 2 by Randy + Misty Bradley
We're redeeming weird and laying it down as gospel, weird is wonderful. Weird has long been that slur used when we don't understand something or it feels too foreign. What's weird anyway? Most people jump to their odd eating quirks but we're talking next level; because is any food combo really weird? or is it just foreign to you? Go a little deeper, what is your weird? Our childhood quirks should be celebrated and explored, they hint to our future selves if we are careful not to shave them down to fit into cookie cutter molds. This conversation is about how we whittle ourselves down and the ways we try to shape the people around us to make us more comfortable. Randy shares some personal oddities that make Misty go hmmm??? and Misty describes her desire to get noisy. We discuss how we all should embrace our weird but first we have to find our freak unique. Unfortunately, we may have hidden it so long, we aren't sure where to find it. Time to go digging through the clues.
Has your summer been all work, no play? We sure hope not! Summer was created for play! While we have made room for lots of fun, and are still trying to cram more into our last few weeks of summer break, we've also been burning the midnight oil on some pretty big projects and dealing with some heavy family stuff. All the stress has reminded us how much we need hefty doses of laughter. These crash courses on how to revel when the s#@*! hits the fan are depleting! So we're going on vacation... or having a staycation... or a mix of staycation + mini road trips. We really don't know what to call it. Honestly, it has been such a wacky summer for us and Randy is just now able to carve out a bit of time off work. It's last minute and we're designing our downtime around the beginning of soccer and appointments we can't cancel and all that kind of stuff. While we love travel, this time together will have to be about relaxing, enjoying each other, finding new things to explore, and filling our time with as many belly laughs as we can. Why are we adding the pursuit of laughter to our vacation plans? You already know the positive effect of laughter on your emotional state, but laughing has surprising health benefits and we believe it's key to healthy relationships, too. Just check out this episode where we peek into the science of laughter and explore a swarm of ideas on how to have more laughs. And we enjoy a few crack-ups in the process! Hear us get real about self-talk and how knowing what to do is only part of the battle.
We're pretty lucky to have found each other; but we're the first to tell you that love and marriage aren't always a walk in the park. However, they have brought us a whole lot of wonderful. We're answering our listeners' questions and sharing our earned wisdom and insights from 19 years of marriage. This is an intimate look inside our relationship. You'll learn how we stay connected and just how big of a problem being hangry really is. We get real about our biggest struggles and the conversation Misty hates to have with Randy. You won't be surprised that Randy's marriage advice includes a hot tub, sex, and journals??!? Our commitment to each other has made it feel safer and more encouraging for each of us to grow. It may sound trite but it's true: Teamwork makes the dream work. We're looking forward to chasing dreams together for a thousand more years.
It can be so overwhelming to think about all the ways you're trying to better yourself; but our guest Jessica Murnane is helping us all to focus on one part at a time. Jessica's One Part Podcast hosts conversations with some of the most fascinating minds in wellness, music, food, fashion, and design. She is also the author of the wildly popular new cookbook One Part Plant. Once a designer, now the queen of helping people better their lives one part at a time, Jessica is bringing her refreshing approach to transformation to the whole world.
We talk a lot; it's in a podcaster's job description. Often we identify with that Pinterest meme: Sometimes I open my mouth and my mom comes out! It's true, we're a product of our raising. We're interviewing our favorite moms about parenting - what it was like to raise us and how raising kids has changed over the generations. You can listen in on the wisdom that guided us and hear what our moms learned from their mothers. Misty and Linda talk about huffing babies and the memories that rush back when the high school marching band plays. Randy's mom Cindy has fun things to divulge about the glory days. You'll learn just how Randy became so confident and why vacuum lines don't matter. Listen if you want to get to know us a bit better and to meet the women responsible for us!
Cultivating a creative practice is a must for anyone who wants to keep their creative muscle limber and their work fresh. This chat with Jenni Brown is about finding the balance between order and creativity. How do you straddle approaching work, life, and everything with creativity AND logic? We're excited to talk this out with Jenni, the co-founder of Prim'd Marketing. She is a writer and designer that brings her expertise in branding and web strategy to her clients. Jenni is intensely creative but she is also known for having super powers of creating killer systems and organization. Creativity and organization aren't always thought of going together like chips + salsa but we've learned that some of the most highly creative people know how to access those super powers. Jenni is sharing the tools that keep her creating in freedom instead of messy chaos and why personal projects are vital.
We seem calm but we are shouting it from the rooftops: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF! Authenticity may be a buzzword that has lost a bit of its punch. But being genuine, honest, and loyal isn't going out of style. Why is honesty so important; especially self-honesty? We've got to get real to get happy. Hear Randy diagnose Misty with Monica syndrome and hear a real-life example of denial unfold in the midst of our conversation. We hope this episode helps you get freedom from carrying around some baggage that might not even be true. And that one part? Either it was as funny as we thought it was, or we had the sleepy sillies.
Caitlin L. Horton could write a book called Boldly Go + Get Things Done. Instead, she is telling us all about it. Caitlin holds four degrees, speaks multiple languages and is currently learning another, is a published author, a talented designer, and has collaborated + created multiple successful businesses which parlayed into founding her own Design and Brand Strategy firm. In the midst of earning her MBA, she moved with her husband across the world to Shanghai, China to live and work where she doesn't even know the language... yet. You'll also find out what crazy things she is eating.
He may have a dark sense of humor but Alex Stephenson knows something about staying where the light is. As a behavioral therapist who works in a hospital, Alex meets people at their most vulnerable, sometimes wild, and often darkest hours. Alex juggles this full-time job that makes such a huge difference in people's lives with a creative pursuit that has him writing AND illustrating his own comic Narcolepsy Incorporated, several books including “Maybe” Days, and his introspective, good-humored blog called A Step Past Normal - the life of a marginally funny, bearded stepdad. Alex blends that big work with a vibrant family life as a husband and father of two. He's telling us what keeps him in the light and gives him the momentum to keep creating. We're also chatting about all the ways parenting is a game-changer, his favorite Marvel character, pop culture, sneakily watching scary movies as a kid, pickles, Jolly Ranchers, ice skates, and eagles. Listen to discover how humor, family, and creativity make everything better.
We are completely enthralled with Lindsay Cameron Wilson and her magical storytelling with food as muse. She is a best-selling cookbook author and host of Love Food, a cooking show that celebrates food, family, and community. But where we fell in love with Lindsay is The Food Podcast - it's a feast for your ears. It's where she talks with food experts, food lovers, and explores the real flavors of life. Lindsay teaches us that food is the portal to all good stories because “cooking is the story of your neighbourhood, your friends, your family, your travels and the ingredients you use, all woven together to tell a story – a food love story.” The three of us are talking about why recording our lives and stories is so powerful and how food is a major character in everyone's story. We also explore how to use the nourishing experience of eating to revel more.
If your closet is talking behind your back, what's it saying about you? Is it an interesting, jaw-dropping conversation or a total bore? Right now, Misty's closet is screaming, “HELP ME!” Because we love to revel in style, we've been feeling the urge to purge and only keep what essentially feels like us. So we turned to an expert on style empowerment and closet clarity, Leah Zorn of Leah Lou Style. She empowers driven, fun-loving people to connect with their creativity & develop a style that is as unique and whole as they are. The cool thing about Leah is that she is dedicated to helping people express themselves with confidence and style; she's not trying to fill your closet with the latest fashion trends. Style isn't just a matter of taste, it can also personify something we want to aspire to. We're not talking about designer labels and a luxury lifestyle. This episode is about gaining a strong sense of self and owning who you are and who you want to be - starting in your closet.
What starts out as pillow talk about our lives turns into an introspective conversation diving into self-awareness and chasing success. Being guided by your values helps you find the momentum to continue moving forward. Yet sometimes that elusive work-life balance, a term Misty isn't fond of, finds you striving for what you may already have. We're asking questions like: Can you really do anything you put your mind to? What are you working for? Are our expectations of other people realistic? So we're taking a get-real look at success and what it means to be both resourceful and a resource for others.
Dominique Anders has been a producer, director, and writer for over a decade in the entertainment industry. After watching other creatives burn out and lose direction, Dom decided to blend her career in entertainment with a practice as a certified business + lifestyle coach for creatives. In both jobs, her expertise is helping creatives focus on their goals and produce results. Dom went after her own dreams with laser-like focus and we learn how she carved out her role as a detail-oriented producer who gets big things done. She is sharing that know-how and her advice for how to narrow down and focus when you have all the ideas. We were inspired by Dom's thoughts and special technique for learning to be present rather than trying to solve future problems or overanalyzing the past. Since we're givers as well as takers, we surprise Dom with insider info on the only surfboard company in Oklahoma. We also gift our thoughts and insights on parenting as Dom is about to give birth to her first child. If you struggle with focus and getting things done, you need to know Dom Anders.

You've got to make the stuff you have to make says Julia Denos, author + artist. We were energized by our conversation with Julia about living and creating from your bonfire heart. We explore the themes of curiosity as muse, art as activism, and fulfilling your purpose by being committed to your work even when you can't predict the outcome. Julia also gives us a glimpse of what it's like to be a successful illustrator bringing other people's stories to life, as well as creating her own popular book Swatch: The Girl Who Loved Color. Listen in as we connect over living where you work, night owl tendencies, and art tantrums. But mostly we share a passion for creating art and lives bursting with meaning.

The resume of Aric S. Queen reads a lot like that of the most interesting man in the world; but he is quick to point out that the true fascination is what a wonderful world it is. A nostalgic video of Casa Bonita, a favorite childhood restaurant, introduced us to Aric. He is a native Oklahoman leading a colorful life. Once a young DJ at a Tulsa Radio Station, he set off to travel the world. Aric went on to broadcast a popular podcast in China that exposed their government and forced him into exile. Aric is sailing the world (and made a show about it), authored a book, was a National Geographic Traveler, and is the co-host of Snacks and Snacks. Aric's book The Shanghai Exile Diaries is his cold hard look in the mirror and a mesmerizing read. We chat about the painful process of stripping your own story down to nothing but the truth, the terrifying reality of vagrant living and skinny budgets. He's sharing a little bit of travel advice, a whole lotta snacks advice, and a refreshing honesty about the dangerous effects of the desperate search for validation. Learn why the man who has traveled the world over is still addicted to continuous adventures and insists he still has everything to learn.
Have you ever wondered why men and women can seem worlds apart when emotions are at play? Are the sexes really that different emotionally or is it simply that two different human beings are THAT different? We're sharing behind the scenes of our marriage and the emotional divide we navigate from time to time. Things like - what happens when Misty interrogates Randy about what he is thinking, what movie opens a floodgate of tears for Randy, and how Misty knows when Randy is really angry. We discuss recent scientific research on the differences between the brains of women and men, and the possibility of a spectrum of emotional expression and intelligence. Ultimately, the emotional divide is real. But it's not quite all about men vs. women. If we want better communication and stronger relationships, we need to figure out how to bridge that divide.
Creative couple James + Jessica Whalen of Truebadours are many things; but they might best be described as storytellers. Go behind the scenes and learn to Choose Your Own Adventure with Aurora Gordon, Hollywood colorist. Her day job is to make her work seen but not noticed. However, she has created an amazing way for you to notice and capture stories that matter with her series Record Your Own Adventure. We're chatting with Rory about how it's fun to be a little crazy, geeking out over color science and theory, getting carried away with laughter, coffee naps, and shiny object syndrome. But first, we bond over dodging tornadoes, the OKC Thunder, and BBQ.
Grey may be hot in interior design these days but it makes a dreary shade of life. So we're exploring Life Made Vibrant with Caroline Winegeart. She is an artist in many senses of the word, but we first consider her a life artist. Caroline's work resonates with our belief that our greatest art is the life we create for ourselves.
Are you driven to live and work with purpose and meaning? Do you long for work that fuels your life instead of consumes it? That's a hallmark of REVELERS and why we love this conversation: Own Your Why with Maggie Gentry Miller. Having her around is like having an extra brain - a super smart, insightful, helpful, encouraging brain. While Maggie's work is to provide thought partnership and marketing strategy for creative entrepreneurs, what she has to say is important for anyone who wants how they live and work to matter.
It's another REVELERS Dinner Party episode and this time it's a Thanksgiving feast! It's clear that we believe in celebrating holidays in a meaningful way; so we made the perfect eclectic playlist, gathered a few of our good friends, and laid out a feast. There was side-splitting, cheek-aching laughter and some healthy debate. We asked everyone to bring their favorite quote, memory, or thoughts on gratitude and giving thanks. Turns out we're thankful for Rob Lowe, bad movies, first date speeches, long marriages, storytelling, Emmy winning, Thanksgiving traditions, Google, sports, road trips, family, friends, and food… glorious food.

We keep talking about storytelling because without stories we doubt there is understanding, learning, empathy, imaginative growth, or any of the other things that evolve us as humans. Whether it's a how-to, an emotional journey, a history lesson, a tale of insight, or a saga that puts us inside the lives of others; stories are crucial to humanity. Stories also add spice to life. Heidi is like a story midwife. She is a writer + editor, and generating ideas is her superpower. She helps people tell their stories. It's Misty's birthday and we gathered an eclectic group of friends who make her laugh, inspire her, and bring her joy. But they didn't know each other. Misty made some delicious chicken enchiladas and everyone got acquainted by chatting about work, marriage, parenting, podcasting, and we even discussed Beyonce… you could say we covered the whole enchilada. We really wanted to invite all of you but our kitchen table will only seat so many. That's why we're bringing the party to you.
