Wonder Kids, SETIAP HARI, KITA DIAJARKAN UNTUK BERSYUKUR ATAS ANUGERAH TUHAN YANG BESAR DAN MEMBAGIKANNYA KEPADA ORANG LAIN. Tuhan Yesus memberkati

Amin. (Dod).
Hey there! It's Michael here - and welcome back to another Happy English Sunday Speak. I'm here every Sunday with a quick one-point tip to help you speak English more naturally. Now, in American English, there's a special sound we make with the letter T. It's called the flap T, and it sounds kind of like a soft D sound. You'll hear it in words like better, water, and pretty. So instead of saying “BET-ter,” “WAH-ter,” and “PRIT-ty,” Americans usually say “BEH-der,” “WAH-der,” and “PRI-dee.” This sound happens when the T comes between two vowel sounds — like the a and e in water, or the i and y in city. Let me give you some sentences to practice this: “I feel better today.” → “I feel beh-der today.” “We had a pretty nice day in the city.” → We had a pri-dee nice day in the sih-dy.” “Can I get a glass of water?” → “Can I gedda glass of wah-der?”This flap T sound makes your English smoother and more natural — just like how most Americans really speak. Thanks for listening. And remember to like, follow, and subscribe so you won't miss the next Happy English Podcast and next week's Sunday Speak. 実践練習hah~ hah~ hah~ hot (x3)It was very hot this summer.ha~ ha~ ha~ hand (x3)Add a handful of salt and pepper. MA-ma, MA-ma, MA-ma → MAster, MAster, MAsterIt's not easy to master it.WAH-wa, WAH-wa, WAH-wa → WAH-nted, WAH-nted, WAH-ntedThat's what I wanted to do. (カタカナはあくまで補助的なガイドです)実践練習 (ハーヴィー・スペクターになりきって)Harvey: Well, you go back to the witness's house,/wel, yoo gou bak tu thuh WIT-nes-iz haus/(いいから、もう一度証人の家に行け)Harvey: and you get her to testify again./an ju GEH-der tu TES-ti-fai uh-GEN/(そして、彼女にもう一度証言させるんだ)Mike: I tried. There's no way./ai TRAID, theirs NOU wei/(やりましたが、無理です)Harvey: There's ALWAYS a way./theirs AL-weiz uh WEI/(方法は必ずある)いかがでしょうか? Before:(自信なさげに、平坦な声で)"I'm not quite agreed with that idea."After:(喉の奥から響かせ、"agreed"と"idea"にストレスを置いて、堂々と)"I'm not quite aGREED with that iDEa."

Amin (Dod)
Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 581 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian's video with Rick Beato, Exploding tubes, and the BOSS PX-1Richard is feverish with excitement about the new Rick Beato interview with David Gilmour whereas Brian and Blake are almost completely nonplussed. This somehow becomes a discussion about pork chops before the guys look at some controversial comments from another ex-member of Pink Floyd. Boss have released a new pedal, the PX-1, which is a 'plugin loader' pedal and the guys look into it and have some interesting views about why the Internet shouldn't be as mad as they are. Brian thinks it looks a bit like a LEGO pedal - but that may not be such a bad thing. Do you still use a Wah pedal? Brian sets forth the motion that nobody does any more. Brian also managed to nearly set fire to his barn when one of his amps went supernova and he tell us all about it. Richard has a new pedal day with a vintage classic and the guys nerd out about op-amps. ・母音の曖昧化(曖昧母音)He is at school/heez ut skool/Classify/kla suh fai/・単語同士をつなぐ(リンキング)Take away/tei kuh wei/Take that/tei(k) tha(t)/・Tの変化(音声変化)Get it on/ge di daan/I want to do/uh wah nuh doo/・音が脱落する(リダクション)One of those people is…/wuh nuh thouz/Probably/Praab li/こういった音の変化が起こり、しかも速く発音されると日本人にとってはなかなか簡単に聞き取ることはできません。 「I'm coming right away」というフレーズだと「com, right, way」の部分がストレスとなります。 Where are you?/wer AR yuh/I'm coming right away./um KUH min RAI da WEI/I'll be there in a minute./ul BEE ther na MI nut/母音の曖昧化英語を発音する時は、ストレスで声を張ったら脱力して、声を張ったら脱力しての繰り返しです。 (1) TAH ka TAH ka TAH kaTalk about itI'd like to talk about it.(2) BAH ta BAH ta BAH taI bought itI bought a lot of bottles. Take it out/TEI kih DAU(t)/これをカタカナ発音で発音すると「Take(強) it(強) out(強)」となってしまい抑揚がなくなってしまいます。 「Take it out」と発音する時、it の /t/ が弱い /d/ の音に変化しています。 (1) Get it/GE dih/Get it out of your mind/GE di DAU duv yer MAIND/(2) Wanted/WAH neh/I wanted to do that/uh WAH ne duh DOO thut/音が脱落する(リダクション)さらに英語は音が変化するだけでなく、そもそも脱落してしまう発音もあります。 One of those people/WUH na thouz/** of (1) How's it going?/HAU zi GOU in/** it の /t/, または it そのものが省略されている **(2) I'm going to go grab some food before we get going./uh ma na gou/** going の /g/ が直前の m に吸収されている **(3) Where did you get that?/WER ju GEH/** did you が同化して /ju/ になっている **(4) I want to catch them right away./uh wa na KYAch em/** them の /th/ が脱落している **まとめというわけで今回は日本人にとって英語の聞き取りにくい要素となる、母音の曖昧化、リンキングや音声変化、音の脱落などの例を取り上げました。

Brian memperhatikan betapa lahapnya sang ayah makan biskuit coklat. Tuhan Yesus memberkati. Doa:Tuhan Yesus, aku sungguh bersyukur karena Engkau mengasihiku sekalipun dalam keterbatasanku aku sering berbuat salah. Ampuni aku Yesus. Amin. (Dod).

Mirza Hadi Ruswa recounts in the preface of his novel, Umrao Jaan Ada, how he came to write the story of a courtesan from Lucknow. His friend Munshi Ahmad Hussain had rented a floor in a chowk in Lucknow and this is where he organised mushairas for his friends. Next to his house lives a most mysterious woman who is never seen, but sometimes late at night she can be heard singing. Once at a mushaira hosted by Munshi, Ruswa recites a couplet and a soft voice from next door exclaims, “wah! Wah!”. The mysterious lady invites Ruswa to her home and turns out to be Umrao Jaan Ada who Ruswa had known many years ago. She then proceeds to narrate her story to Ruswa, which then became the famous novel, Umrao Jaan Ada.

I haven't yet said this, but my intention with this and the previous three recordings was a hopscotch survey of Pacific Coast soundscapes. To recollect now, these have been Yoakam Point on the Oregon Coast, Copalis Ghost Forest on the Washington Coast, Keahou on the Big Island of Hawaii and now Preston Island in Crescent City, on the Northern California Coast. This reflection on Preston Island leads me to ponder sites along the lower Columbia River at length, for reasons which will soon reveal themselves.Preston Island is weird. For starters, it's not what anyone would call an island. You can walk right out onto its strange rocky surface from the mainland. The view from the island is breathtaking though, and I thought it made a better album cover than the island itself: The island is relatively flat, but also boulder-strewn and cracked. When I visited, it was foggy, and I felt like I was on the surface of another planet. Something about it seemed unnatural:It all clicked when I found this historical photo:Preston Island was carted off. It was mined down to a nub. Let's get our bearings. Here's an 1880's Crescent City map, and a modern satellite photo. (I guess cardinal north pointing up wasn't yet the rule.)On the map you'll see Preston Island clearly drawn as a landmass, and Hall's Bluff, appearing much less prominently than it does today. I outlined the locations on the satellite image. Here, all the rock contained in those geographical features was mined and dumped in the ocean to create the jetty you see on the upper right of the satellite image. They really moved mountains. This is what Preston Island used to look like, and here it is today, courtesy of Google Street View:Our soundwalk takes us from West 5th Street in Crescent City, over to the beach and up over what's now called Half Butte, to about where this old photo of Hall's Bluff (aka Lover's Rock) was taken in 1876. Look at the tiny figures on top for a sense of scale:The massive Lover's Rock headland, was also carted off to build the jetty. It's harder to match the original photo vantage point with Street View, but it's also just completely gone. But let's get back to Preston Island, that weird scab-land of a place. Let's take a closer look at it, because it gives our soundwalk such unique character about 17 minutes in. At a glance, it seems lifeless. A green hue, coming from chalky veins in the rock, adds to the otherworldliness of the landscape.Tide pools form on the perimeter, among the cracks and fissures in the rock substrate. It's here that I place my recording hat down and the soundscape is instantly transformed. The skitter of crabs and the capillary clicking sounds of tiny shellfish erupt to fill the high frequencies, while the surf sound is attenuated by the topography of the rocks. It's another world. A 2021 article in the Bandon Western World states, “Preston Island has a long history in Crescent City. Originally Preston Peak, the area was a sacred site for the Tolowa Nation.” It is not well known, but the Tolowa were the subject of the most persistent and possibly worst massacres of Native Americans in the USA, starting in 1853, in the Crescent City area. Now, I couldn't corroborate the name “Preston Peak”, but I have to admit I was not surprised to hear that a sacred place to Native Americans was destroyed. There have been others.Pillar RockConsider Pillar Rock (briefly “Pilot Rock”) in the Columbia River. Once a monolith upwards of 75 feet tall, it was dynamited and flattened at the 25 foot level to install a navigation light:The Chinookan name for the monolith was Talapus. A cannery built nearby in 1877 used a likeness similar to Talapus for its canned salmon label, Pillar Rock brand. The rock was dynamited by 1922 when, according to the shipping news, a red navigation light was established. Like Talapus, the spring Chinook fishery in the Columbia was a diminished remnant of what it once was when Pillar Rock Cannery suspended operations in 1947.In a surprising epilogue Pillar Rock is still an actively used trade mark today, in 2025. The company now fishes the waters of Alaska for wild Sockeye to fill the modern day tins. It's remarkable how Euro-Americans changed the landscape and practically wiped out the fishery, but the brand is the thing that perseveres. What does it say about us that this is the way things are?Let's consider the intriguing story of Mount Coffin, up the Columbia River about 40 river miles.Mount CoffinThe geological feature that was first described to the historical record by Lieutenant William R. Broughton in 1792, and given the name “Mount Coffin”, was a Chinookan canoe burial ground. It would have appeared much the same a half century later, when Charles Wilkes visited in 1841, but quite different than the 1900 image above. Imagine, if you will, thousands of dugout cedar canoes perched in the trees on the prominent outcrop, about five feet above ground, in varying states of decay, all with bows pointed more or less toward the ocean. Within these canoes lay the interned bodies of Chinookans of the Skilloot tribe, wrapped in cedar blankets with their belongings placed beside them. That scene came to a swift end in 1841.The U.S. Exploring Expedition, led by Charles Wilkes, camped on Mount Coffin in 1841. When the men accidentally let a campfire spread, it destroyed an estimated 3,000 burial canoes. The Chinookan Indians were distressed to discover that their burial site had been destroyed by the negligence of whites and, according to visiting artist Paul Kane, “would no doubt have sought revenge had they felt themselves strong enough to do so.” (Stealing from The Dead, Oregon Historical Quarterly)Many Upper Chinookan villages were by 1841 entirely depopulated following devastating waves of malaria in the early 1830's, so Paul Kane's observation rings true.Within a century this lowland was completely transformed. The largest lumber mill in the world was built upriver from Mount Coffin.Mount Coffin was completely dynamited and quarried, beginning in 1929. The site is a now home to a chemical plant. Flat as a pancake. Finally let's consider the monolith in the heart of the Columbia Gorge that few realize barely escaped dynamite. So we are told…Beacon RockTo the natives it was Che-che-op-tin. When Lewis & Clark mapped the area in 1805 it was referred to as “Beaten Rock” and on return a year later “Beacon Rock”. Later, the 1841 Wilkes Exploring Expedition labelled it “Castle Rock”, which stuck for the better part of a century. Since 1916, it's been Beacon Rock.Just west of Beacon Rock was a large village Captain Lewis in 1806 called Wah-clel-lah (a Watlala winter village):This village appears to be the winter station of the Wah-clel-lahs and Clahclellars…14 houses remain entire but are at this time but thinly inhabited, nine others appear to have been lately removed, and the traces of ten or twelve others of ancient date were to be seen in the rear of their present village. There was also another village at the very foot of beacon rock. Traces of it remained visible to the trained eye into the 1950's.“BIG BLAST WILL WRECK IT”“Castle Rock to Go” and “Whole Rock is Doomed” read the subheadings in a March 16th, 1906 article in The Oregonian. The article outlined how the owners, a coterie of eight businessmen including Dan Kerns, acting as the Columbia Construction Company, had already cut three 20 to 30 ft. tunnels under the southern aspect of the monolith in preparations to dynamite “the shoulder” of the rock and quarry the stone for building material, eventually removing it entirely. A Wikipedia entry states (without citation), “The United States Army Corps of Engineers planned to destroy the rock to supply material for the jetty at the mouth of the Columbia.” This appears to be incorrect. The Army Corps didn't have that plan. The Columbia Construction Company purported to have a plan to mine an initial two million tons for building material (possibly to include jetty material—there were no contracts) in 1906. Columbia jetty work began 20 years prior to that. The Columbia Construction Company was taken to court, and a jury sided with Portland & Seattle Railway, who argued the tunnels were part of an elaborate ruse to “claim damages from $100,000 to $500,000” from lost mining activity due to the rail line going through their intended quarry site. According to the plaintiffs, it was just a scheme to get the railway to pay dearly for the right of way. The jurors dashed that plan, stipulating a $5000 settlement. Was it an elaborate ruse? Or was the jury predisposed not to trust city businessmen? What was clear, according to The Oregonian, was that, “clergymen, leading citizens, women, teachers, and all classes in Portland and throughout the state were horrified as the proposed destruction of such a majestic landmark.” “I should judge Castle Rock contains 10 million tons of first class building stone,” Kerns said in 1906. Interestingly, that wouldn't have been enough for the massive Columbia jetty system, which ultimately required 13 million tons of rock, when competed in 1939, after half century of construction. Henry J. Biddle took ownership of Beacon Rock from the Columbia Construction Company in 1915, under the condition it would be preserved, and set about realizing his dream to build a trail to the summit.Henry J. Biddle purchased the rock in 1915 for $1 and during the next three years constructed a trail with 51 switchbacks, handrails and bridges. The three-quarter mile trail to the top, completed in April 1918, leads to views in all directions. (Wikipedia)Thanks for listening and reading. I'm thankful for your attention. For my 2025 kickoff of Insider Interviews marketing luminaries Lou Paskalis and David Sable joined me for one of the most candid conversations on the media and ad world for an incredibly candid conversation on the media and ad world that cuts through what David famously coined as "digibabble" years ago. We moved from their personal passions (don't get David started on The Doors!) to how advertising evolved in the tech era... to its future, jam packed with opinions based on their decades of award-winning experience. (Lou, who previously ran global marketing at a couple of small brands you may have heard of, like Bank of America, American Express, and where I first met him, E.J. Gallo, is now the strategic mind behind news assessor Ad Fontes Media, The street cred of David - a top voice on LinkedIn, thanks in part to his terrific blog, "Imagine," stems from being former global CEO/Chairman of Y&R (now VMLY&R) and board member for a ton of big companies like American Eagle and Ethan Allen. He is now Vice-Chairman at the forward-thinking mid-size holdco, Stagwell, where Lou is also an advisor, I discovered!) What informs a lot of the conversation is David's explanation of how Stagwell flipped the traditional agency model on its head: Instead of buying up creative agencies, founder Mark Penn premise to build around tech."... We began by buying tech, aggregating tech and creating a tech platform. Then we went out and wrote in the creative pieces of business." But as David emphasized, "Tech leads the way for everything. But our model, which is the model that's working the best, is that tech is an enabler: Our job is to tell stories and to tell them well." Stories - and art itself, even using the most sophisticated tech and AI - is only a result of the information fed to it. David shares a beautiful analogy about what a Monet envisioned using different brushstrokes on, say, Water Lillies. We have to inform our models to consider "impressionism," just as we have to provide data for use. He says, "Data is a picture of what happened before. That's it. Now, I can interpret it, I can use it, I can I can create algorithms or models, but at the end of the day, data is a picture of what was. It can predict, and AI is going to be better at that, but that's all it is. So it's only as good as the data that it has." And don't get him started on OMNICHANNEL as a buzzword, either. The through line of this episode is to appeal to and follow the consumer. Not jam tech terms or "digibabble" down their throats. Unsurprisingly, Lou agrees, comparing ineffective presentations to Charlie Brown hearing his teacher: "Wah wah. Wah wah. Digital." His point when pitching the CFO could also apply to the consumer: "If you don't contextualize everything into the growth agenda, you might as well not go to the meetings. They don't care what we do, they care how what we do achieves growth." Be human, even in an AI world. That applies to retail, to advertising and, as we learn, the news media. The Future of News Perhaps most compelling was our discussion about the critical importance of news. Insider Interviews followers know this is a clarion call for Lou, which he focused on in his first appearance here last year. Now, backed by Stagwell's staggering study of 50,000 people, Lou shared a startling insight: "The ROI, or return on advertising -- ROAS, on news is higher than any other content vertical you can buy." Marketers are missing out on if they are "news-averse," based on some misguided perceptions about "brand suitability." "11% are self-identified as news junkies who only read or watch the news when they're consuming media. That's 11% more business for any marketer in America in 2025 who will achieve the growth agenda and win by reaching these very influential people." (To learn more, all Insider Interviews fans who are publishers are invited to apply to attend Stagwell's Future of News next meeting at 1WTC on January 2...

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for December 24, 2024 is: wassail WAH-sul verb To wassail is to sing carols (popular songs or ballads of religious joy) from house to house at Christmas; the verb is usually used in the phrase "go wassailing." As a noun, wassail can refer to (among other things) a hot drink that is made with wine, beer, or cider, as well as spices, sugar, and usually baked apples. Wassail is traditionally served in a large bowl especially at Christmastime. // Every year at Christmastime the magazine publishes a recipe for the traditional drink served to those who go wassailing and may appear at one's doorstep. See the entry > Examples: "As early as the 13th century, people in England would travel between houses to go wassailing and wish their neighbors well during the winter months." — The Cedar County (Missouri) Republican & Stockton Journal, 20 Dec. 2023 Did you know? This season, you might hear (or sing) the Christmas carol that begins, "Here we come a-wassailing / among the leaves so green." As is holiday tradition, you will wonder: what in the world is "a-wassailing?" In fact, wassailing is an old custom that goes back to the 1300s. The verb wassail comes from the noun wassail, which dates to the 1200s and was first used to refer to an Old English custom of hospitality. In medieval England, a courteous host would offer a cup to a guest and toast them with the salutation wæs hæil, or "be in good health." The guest would accept the cup and respond with drinc hæil, "drink in good health." Soon, wassail was also being applied to the party at which the wassail was offered, as well as the actual drink passed around. By the 1400s, it was used to refer specifically to a drink served at Christmastime. As the drink became associated with yuletide, wassailing itself changed. The meaning of the verb wassail as it shows up in the carol refers to going around, caroling, and wishing those you visit good health and holiday cheer.

Brenda McMorrow discusses mantra music and medicine songs. Brenda McMorrow is a Canadian Devotional Chant artist who is known for her unique and warmly embracing style of mantra music, in which she blends elements of acoustic folk, world rhythms, and ancient Indian chants with a sweetly introspective singer-songwriter's sensibility. Yoga Journal describes Brenda as having “a knack for expressing the deepest realizations in the sparsest lyrics”. As spiritual teacher Ram Dass has said: “Brenda has a gift”, and her music has been touching people's hearts worldwide.Originally a folk/pop singer/songwriter, it was when Brenda participated in her first Sanskrit chant while attending a Yoga workshop in 2004, that she had a profound knowing her musical journey was leading her to places more expansive and heart-opening than she had ever imagined. Brenda remembers: “It was a very simple chant (Om Namah Shivaya), and at the time I had no idea what it signified: all I knew was that every cell in my body started vibrating, and I felt absolute joy”. While in India soon thereafter, Brenda began combining her own songwriting with ancient Sanskrit chants – and she has been flowing with this divine wave of Bhakti energy ever since. With 5 celebrated devotional chant albums, Brenda is a featured artist on White Swan Records, a Colorado label.. She has shared festival stages with Krishna Das and Snatam Kaur; has been accompanied by Grammy award winning cellist David Darling; has been a guest musician with esteemed Kirtan musicians Jai Uttal, Wah!, David Newman, Girish, Mirabai Ceiba, Jai Jagdeesh, Shantala and Dave Stringer; and has been invited to Bhakti Yoga festivals and events across North America, Europe and Asia. When not on the Bhakti road, Brenda calls the countryside near beautiful Guelph, Ontario, home.https://brendamcmorrow.com/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/truth-be-told-paranormal--3589860/support.
