In our modern world, we have seen a remarkable increase in anxiety and depression in people, particularly among young people, not to mention the loneliness epidemic, burnout, and stress, all of which greatly impact our sense of well-being and our ability to connect with each other. Dr. Alexandra is joined by the award-winning journalist and bestselling author, Jennifer B. Wallace, whose latest book Mattering: The Secret to Building a Life of Deep Connection and Purpose makes the case for why feeling like we matter is essential to our well-being and how prioritizing this need is a remedy to our modern mental health dilemmas. In this conversation, you will hear about:some of the stories Jennie came across while researching her new book that demonstrate why mattering, well, matters. simple practices that folks have integrated into their daily lives to develop a sense of mattering in themselves, and to convey to others that they matter to them. the aspects of our culture that impact our sense of mattering and how we can respond, counterculturally, with actions that protect our “mattering core”, as Jennie calls it.Jennie's thoughts on flake culture (our normalization of bailing on plans) and how it harms our own sense of mattering, as well as harms those around us. Send us a textIn this week's FitBody Lifestyle – Fusion Hack, Joa King and Charles King join the show alongside Jami and Greg for a practical, heartfelt conversation on what keeps a marriage strong—and genuinely fun—after decades together. The Kings break down the “small daily reps” that protect connection: setting clear time boundaries (like a no-calls-after-4pm rule), prioritizing intentional communication before disconnection creeps in, and treating the relationship as the foundation that stabilizes everything else—parenting, work, and personal growth. You'll hear how they navigate real-life change as a team (including shifting household routines after losing long-time support), why teamwork is built through repetition, and how recognizing each other's strengths makes problem-solving smoother at home and beyond. The episode closes with a reminder that laughter and play are not optional extras—they're relationship medicine—plus a grounded perspective on faith, perspective, and not carrying the weight of the world alone. As much as possible, plan ahead before care is needed. Talk with all the family who is involved or who will be. If possible, purchase insurance plans that will help. Perhaps pay for them as a family. Secure wills and power of attorneys and bank accounts and all that while it can be done easily. Have a plan as to who is in charge and who will help and how it will be done.
