Brad Riley is an activist, an award-winning filmmaker and media producer focusing on caused-based projects. He is the founder of iEmpathize, a human rights non-profit, whose mission is to empower youth to stay safe from exploitation. Today's guest is Fadia Thabet, a Yemeni conflict analysis and peacebuilding practitioner. Fadia worked on countering violent extremism, or CVE, programs in the MENA region, focusing on Al Qaeda and ISIS movements, and gender-based violence prevention. In this episode, Alon and Fadia discuss child soldiers and child recruitment in the war in Yemen, the roles of both Saudi Arabia and Iran in the war, and the April ceasefire, which recently ended. Full bio Fadia Thabet is a conflict analysis and peacebuilding practitioner focused on conflict transformation initiatives design and training. Fadia worked on countering violent extremism programs (CVE) in the MENA region focusing on Al Qaeda and ISIS movements and gender-based violence prevention. Her focus is on settling Afghan refugees and asylees in the United States. In 2019, Fadia graduated with a master's degree in Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation. She is the co-founder of Transformation Collaborative (Tcollab). She has been the keynote speaker for Harvard University, the Women's Refugee Commission, the Nobel Women's Initiative and the University of North Carolina. She is the 2017 Women of Courage award recipient. Fadia was recognized for her work in peacebuilding by 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Forum where she shared the stage as a panelist with the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize winner, The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet. She has appeared as a conflict analysis specialist on CNN and CBS news.

Happy Thanksgiving this Like many of you I am taking the holiday off. I could not leave you with out anything to listen to. Here is one of my favorite episodes that in my own opinion shows of the spirit of being thankful. It is not that often that that you run in to an American Idol contestant standing in line at the local grocery store, but that is exactly how I met Rocky Peter. Rocky made it to the group rounds of American Idol, spoke and performed on the Nobel Peace Prize Forum and the 2016 Rio Olympics, but he had to overcome a lot to achieve what he has so far. Born in America, he was abandoned by his father at the age of 2 in Nigeria and enslaved as a child. The only escape Rocky had was singing in the fields. After years of being underfed, drinking water from potholes and losing his older brother to malaria, Rocky escaped enslavement and returned to America. Rocky attended UC Riverside and received a degree in biological science. After graduating Rocky found himself homeless. While he was living on the street he was given a guitar from a coffee shop owner who saw promise in his musical ability. Rocky taught himself how to play that guitar, and that is when things started to change. I invite you all to listen to Rocky’s story of his passion for music and his refusal to give up no matter how many challenges he has to overcome. The founder and executive director of the Interfaith Youth Core, a Chicago-based international nonprofit building the interfaith youth movement, Patel has a doctorate in sociology of religion from Oxford University and is a regular panelist for the Washington Post/Newsweek magazine On Faith blog. His core belief is that religion is a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division. He's inspired to build this bridge by his faith as a Muslim, his Indian heritage, and his American citizenship.
