There is one more big part to the story of Joseph. After Joseph made himself known to his brothers the Egyptians also found out that his family had come down to Egypt. It was big news in Egypt to know that the man that God used to save them from the famine had a family living in the land of Canaan.
On episode 121 of the Adorned Podcast we discuss when a shift happens in the story of Scripture and we zoom in on one man and his family. Abram. When God calls Abram to leave his home to go to a land that he would show him... he does! God makes a covenant with Abraham and he is obedient a lot but there are also times when he chooses his own ways instead of God’s. We see this when Abraham has a son named Ishmael with his wife’s servant, Hagar. Later, God graciously gives him and his wife, Sarah a son named Isaac. God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. He is obedient, but God ultimately provides a ram for the sacrifice in Isaac’s place. Isaac marries Rebekah and they have twins named Jacob and Esau. Jacob means deceiver and he lives up to his name. One night, Jacob wrestles with God and his name is changed to Israel. Jacob has 12 sons (which are the 12 tribes of Israel), his favorite of which is Joseph. After Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery, he has a lot of ups and downs in his life, but God gives him the gift of interpreting dreams and pharaoh makes him second in command over Egypt. Joseph’s brothers come to him asking for food because of famine in the land (they don’t know it’s Joseph) and he forgives them and takes care of them. The Israelites lived in Egypt and became slaves to the Egyptians. Quotes: In reference to the Abrahamic covenant...“It is a promise in which God obligates himself to his people. Entering into creation through an oath to his people.” -J.T. English “No matter what you’re facing, no matter how hard it is, God is using it for your good.” The Story of Scripture Resource List The Story of Scripture Listening Guide *The beautiful music heard on today’s episode is by Katie Cobbs*
Does good news mean the absence of bad news? Receiving good news does not always come without opposition. When Jesus was born it was good news for the whole world but from a human standpoint was bad news for Joseph. After Joseph had already made a promise and commitment to Mary he found out that she was pregnant. She was pregnant by the Holy Spirit, and He had to reveal that to Joseph Himself. Joseph had to trust the Holy Spirit in the process when he wasn't sure what and how things were happening. The Holy Spirit brings good news but sometimes it comes with opposition! This episode is part 38 in a study of the book of Genesis. After Joseph spends 2 more years in prison, Pharaoh has a dream and Pharaoh's cupbearer remembers that he knows someone who can interpret dreams.
After Joseph reveals himself to his brothers as the one they sold to traders, Joseph welcomes them back into his arms. Joseph reaches for mercy.
After Joseph and his generation died, a new king of Egypt arose who was unfamiliar with Joseph. He observed that the Hebrew nation grew larger than his own and so decreed they were to be enslaved and controlled. He put taskmasters over them and commanded the midwives to slay male children.
This week, author Gila Green reprises her role as co-host to discuss The Last Watchman of Old Cairo by Michael David Lukas. Green is the author of several novels. Her most recent, No Entry, is a young adult novel following the trials of 17-year-old Yael Amar as she explores an elephant conservation program in South Africa’s Kruger National Park. No Entry is available now wherever books are sold. The Last Watchman of Old Cairo was published on March 13, 2018 by Spiegel & Grau. In his second novel, Lukas attempts to tell three thrilling stories that span hundreds of years and converge on the magical city of Cairo, Egypt. The novel’s primary protagonist is Joseph al-Raqb, a literature student at Berkley with a Jewish-Egyptian mother who brought him to America as a child and a Muslim-Egyptian father who still lives and works in the city of Cairo. After Joseph’s father dies and leaves him a mystery gift, Joseph must return to Cairo and discover his father’s final wishes. Almost a hundred years earlier, two Christian sisters from England return to Cairo for another archeological adventure to undercover the rumored and historic Ezra Scroll, a perfect iteration of the Torah that has been lost for thousands of years. The sisters have journeyed far in hopes that the scroll might reside in the attic of the storied Ibn Ezra Synagogue in Old Cairo, one of the last synagogues in the city. Lukas brings his readers even further back in time to follow the exploits of Ali, Joseph’s ancestor from nearly a thousand years ago, whose curious duties as a Muslim night watchman of the Ibn Ezra Synagogue leads to generations of service to one of the strongest Jewish communities in Cairo. Lukas undertakes a daunting task in his sophomore work, continually working out his own personal conflicts between his Jewish and Muslim backgrounds through his main characters. His ability to bring such a historic and iconic city out of the pages and into the readers imagination is nothing short of stunning and succeeds in bringing this complex, multi-faceted, and tumultuous city to life. Although some of his plots fall short over such an expansive narrative, Lukas undoubtedly proves his ability to weave an intriguing and evocative story that sticks with the reader for quite some time. Next read(s): Men Without Women by Ernest Hemingway and Men Without Women by Haruki Murakami.
The family is dysfunctional to the point they are blind to their own sin. This leads to self-righteousness. Shechem is a place of danger (Gen. 34 in the name of justice some of the brothers committed great violence. Despite this Jacob sent Joseph to check on his siblings. Looking at the big picture we can see God's hand in the timing of seemingly random actions. The robe and dreams trigger brothers to want to murder him. They have an obsessive hatred. Reuben does show a small sign of humanity and the others agree to his suggestion out of a depraved satisfaction of Joseph suffering a slow death. After Joseph is sold Reuben shows remorse but quickly goes along with the others. Evil will never be conquered with feeble actions. If it isn't exposed it will carry on. The siblings leave Jacob believing his son was torn to pieces and they hypocritically comfort him. Joseph in the pit signifies the loss of every earthly thing he relied on for security. (We live our lives to promote security for ourselves.) Joseph may believe his dreams were a lie and doubted God was with him. There is more to the pit than darkness: a call to a deeper reliance on God.
Time can have rippling effects on your destiny. The first commandment that God gave the Jewish people in Egypt was the commandment to institute a new calendar. This commandment was a gift to the Jewish people. "1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 "This month shall be for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you." [Exodus 12:1-2 RSV] For 210 years, the Israelites lived in a sphere of time that was not their own. After Joseph and his brothers died, their lives were filled with backbreaking bondage under Egyptian slavery. "10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war befall us, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land."" [Exodus 1:10 RSV] During this sphere of time with bondage in Egypt, the time of the Israelites did not belong to them. The days meshed into one another. The days were monotonous and painful. In the life of a slave, there is no hope, no creativity, and there is no future of an expected end. God gifted the Jewish people with the gift of time to bring about rippling effects of time. Now they were given a purpose as God's chosen people. Queen Esther was also a slave in a sense. She was captured and chosen to become the wife of King Ahasuerus against her will. Like her ancestors in Egypt, Esther also had to experience the rippling effects of time on her destiny. Queen Esther experienced a time shift when she came into her destiny defining epiphany to restore the legacy and the anointing that her ancestor, King Saul lost. "14 For if you keep silence at such a time as this, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another quarter, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"" [Esther 4:14 RSV] I invite you to join me for “The Rippling Effects of Time” on Thursday, February 6 @ 7:30 PM - Breath of the Spirit - 1531 S Sinclair St, Anaheim, CA. The Lord will bring you into a new sphere of time that will have rippling effects on your destiny. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/destined4torah/support
Joseph brought his father Jacob and all his family to Egypt. After Joseph's death, the new Pharaoh feared the Israelite people and placed them in slavery. This week we'll look at the birth and early life of Moses, whom God used to fulfill His promise to rescue them.
Benefits as members of God's Family Count your Blessings This song appeals to 3 fundamental assumptions about human nature: 1. That we are all social being (relationship with one another and by extension - with God) 2. That we are, on one hand, creatures for benefits / gains 3. And on the other hand, very forgetful of these benefits or that we take them for granted. Reasons why we often forget or take for granted these benefits is because: 1. We tend to focus of short-term, instantaneous, tangible and often short lived benefits. 2. We are buried under life issues and circumstances that we forget what He promises, what He has done and what He is about to do for us. What is a Family? In our societies, the family is the oldest principal institution for the socialisation of children. It is an agency that serves as a basic unit for raising children. One of the primary functions of the family involves nurturing and preparing children in life. A framework for what a family does: Prayer Provision Protection, guidance = LOVE Plan/Preparation Punishment/discipline How do you become a member of God’s Family? John 1: 12-13 (NKJV) 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Titus 3 :1-7 1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. 3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Hey Weight Loss Nation! www.TheWeightLossNation.com While attending Podfest Multimedia Expo in Orlando, I had the opportunity to check out another Orlando Restaurant Menu for Healthy Meals. If you're interested in learning more about Podfest Multimedia Expo go to www.podfestexpo.com/2019 Tonight, I checked out FishBones a restaurant boasting "fresh fish' and aged steaks. FishBones claims to....."offer the freshest just-caught seafood flown in daily." FishBones also claims to be ....listed as one of America's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants. Let me check that out! I "Googled" America's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants....and FishBones was not in the six different lists I viewed. I then "Googled" Top Ten Seafood Restaurants in Central Florida.....Guess What? FishBones made Trip Advisor's Top Ten List! Now that we got that straightened out......let's get to my review! Charley and Ron Woodsby.....the father and son team, who started "Talk of the Town Restaurants, Inc." in 1974.....currently own ten restaurants in the Central Florida area. The restaurants are privately owned, and are comprised of such familiar names as ....... "Charley's Steak House" named after Charley Woodsby himself, "Texas Cattle Company", "Johnnies Hideaway," "Vito's Chop House", "Moon Fish" and of course the restaurant I'm reviewing today....... FishBones. The corporate office took on the name "Talk of the Town Restaurants, Inc." and today has over 1000 employees with 64 million dollars in sales among ten restaurants. There are two "FishBone" restaurant locations: 1. Lake Mary Location 7005 County Road 46A ( H E Thomas Jr Pkwy ) Lake Mary, FL 32746 407-581-2399 Happy Hour: 4:30pm-6:30pm Available in the bar and patio only Dinging Hours: Sun-Thurs: 5pm-10pm Fri-Sat: 5pm-11pm 2. Orlando, FL Location 6707 Sand Lake Road Orlando, FL 32819 407-352-0135 Happy Hour: 4:30pm-6:30pm Available in the bar only Dining Hours: Sun-Thurs: 5pm-10:30pm Fri-Sat: 5pm-11pm www.TheWeightLossNation.com This review is for the Orlando, FL location only. When you walk into FishBones Restaurant, you realize Seafood is a specialty here. From the big, Aquarium greeting you as you enter, to the maritime feel of the furniture and decor. My party of Podcasters were greeted by FishBones Hostess - Alexa. Alexa was cordial, kind and we were seated in a more "private section" for our large party to talk and hear ourselves talk. We were greeted by our waiter Xavier, who introduced himself to our party of Podcasters and gave each of us a drink menu and dinner menu. Xavier promptly asked if any of us wanted a glass of water while we looked over the menus.......and being I drink lots of water all day, I replied a big "Yes" as well as a few of my other colleagues. The Menu at FishBones has a variety of items to suit your taste. The prices are expensive.....so don't come to FishBones if you are going to have a "chicken" entree. The Fish is boasted to be "Fresh" and flown in to the restaurant "daily." Steaks are aged steaks and cooked over an 1100° citrus and oak wood fire, the Prime Rib is cooked for 23-hours...... slow roasted. BoneFish has an award winning Wine Menu..... WINE SPECTATOR MAGAZINE'S Award of Excellence I'm a Chardonnay girl and Xavier suggested a Chardonnay Wine for me....and it was very good. Chardonnay is $8.00 - $17.00 a glass. One of the "specials" of the day was "Trigger fish" I never heard of Trigger fish and Xavier said it was flown in that day from Hawaii. When I asked him to describe Trigger Fish....Xavier stated it was like Sea Bass and would flake when I put my fork in it. I ordered the Trigger Fish and each entree comes with salad, "garlic cheese .....butter bread...as well as a "Signature Side." I did not touch the Garlic Cheese Butter Bread....and it was tough.....it looked delicious and my compadres were .....ummming and yumming over it. I did have salad, and I opted for a "premium side" since the signature sides were pretty much all about potatoes. I ordered the "creamed kale." since they didn't have "creamed spinach" on the menu. I was worried how "creamed kale" would turn out... The "trigger fish" came plated with a sauteed onion glaze and the "creamed kale" was in a separate bowl on the plate. The trigger fish was delicious! Flaky just as Xavier said it would be...and the portion size was very good. The "creamed kale" was excellent too! The Kale was soft and had the same "creamy" flavor that creamed spinach would have. Pleasantly delighted with creamed Kale. Xavier was very attentive to all our needs.....and Executive Chef.....Marcus King......came over to our table to see how everything was. My entree was awesome......unfortunately my buddy Joseph didn't have the same experience as I did. Joseph ordered the "whole gulf snapper" I was going to split the snapper with him, since I LOVE snapper, but I thought the snapper was cut and filleted. No........they cook the whole damn fish on the citrus oak wood fire....head, eyes and tail! Then they cut open the fish and there the whole damn fish is on your plate. YUCKY for me!!!! Hell no........ I don't want no fish with it's head and eyes looking at me while I'm eating. Plus it had ALL the bones in it. It's like eating the fish like a cave man for the love of God! I had to decline and I ordered the Trigger Fish. When Joseph's entree was placed before him.....I could smell a very "fishy" odor coming from his plate. Very odd for a place that "Boasts" how fresh the fish is. Within seconds.....Joseph was asking me if I smelled a "fishy" smell. I told him and we both took a bite. It tasted ok...but I wouldn't want to eat any fish that "smells" fishy. Either the fish wasn't stored properly or the fish just wasn't fresh. Joseph told Xavier and he ordered the "Florida Gator" appetizer instead. Within a few minutes......Yassine El Harra.....the Manager came over to Joseph and apologized whole-heartedly about the "Snapper." Nice gesture! After Joseph started eating his "Gator" All was good! The rest of the dinner service, conversation and meal was fabulous! How do I rate FishBones with our Weight Loss Nation thumbs up scale? My Trigger Fish dinner and service gets a BIG 2 thumbs up! Joseph's "Whole Snapper" gets a a BIG 2 thumbs down! Overall.....the service, food and atmosphere gets 1 1/2 Thumbs Up! If you're looking for a really good seafood restaurant in Central Florida.....Go visit FishBones in Orlando. They're located at ....... 6707 Sand Lake Road Orlando, FL 32819 407-352-0135 I'd like to personally thank Andrea Sutton - Operations Manager, Yassine El Harra - Manager for our lovely group that evening...... as well as Marcus King....executive chef ......Xavier our awesome waiter......and Alexa......our very pleasant and kind hostess! FishBones is expensive and you can expect to pay over $25 an entree. I wouldn't bring kids under 8 or kids that can't behave. People are spending a lot of money for excellent food and service......leave the kids home and have an awesome night out with your loved one or friends! Life on Fire TV (Audio) – Online Business Coaching With Nick Unsworth
Hey hey! Welcome to episode 195 of Life on Fire. Today our extra special guest, Joseph McClendon III is back! He’s so great we wanted you to hear him for two weeks in a row. In case you missed last week’s show Joseph is the top trainer and coach for Tony Robbins. He is also an international motivational speaker who has graced the stage in over 30 countries, while running 6 businesses that gross over 42 million in revenue. I first saw him at one of Tony's Unleash The Power Within events and through connections was able to bring him to a private group of 50 entrepreneurs. On episode 195 of Life on Fire you’ll hear the second part of the talk he gave to that private group. Today he shares the top biggest mistakes most speaker make on stage; he shares what not to do and what to do so you can connect with your audience in the most impactful way possible. Whether or not you are a speaker or ever plan to speak on stage, today’s episode is valuable. It’ll help you learn the most effective ways to reach your target market and create the strongest bond of trust possible! In this episode you’ll hear: What is Kirlian photography and what does it have to do with you? (5:35) What is the connect/disconnect model? (9:55) Why motion is emotion. (14:50) Who you are and how you define yourself speaks as loud or louder than what? (20:50) What is a pattern interrupt and how do we use it to better ourselves? (30:45) And so much more! When you experience today’s episode you’ll see why Joseph is Tony’s top coach! He is a dynamic speaker and leader in his own right. So when he talks about the things most speakers do from stage that cost them dearly, you’ll want to pay attention. He outlines the following common mistakes speakers make from stage: Not preparing well enough. Joseph says most speakers don’t prepare themselves well enough before they get in front of their audience. They aren’t psychologically, personally and emotionally ready to give their very best to the group they are presenting to, and that costs them not only money in sales but the opportunity to create connection. Not prepping the stage and the audience ahead of time. Also most speakers don’t prep the stage and the audience before. This is about focusing positive energy and intention on them. As he explains Joseph says what you give your attention and intention to will expand and grow. He explains how this works on today’s episode including how engineers have proven this to be true! Speaking and not presenting. Put very simply this is about talking to an audience, versus connecting and enrolling the audience in a dynamic way. If you are only speaking to them you miss out on a chance to connect and enroll them into doing something. Call to action. And that is number 4: call to action. Often speakers don’t have a strong or clear call to action. A call to action is the only thing causes the audience to do something so be clear and present your call to action. Be at your optimum. Last but certainly not least is being at their optimum level. Many, many speakers miss this one but if you think about like this you won’t miss out again: your audience deserves you at your very best. And if you give it to them, they know it. Your very best and giving your all is what they connect with, and that is when they feel your passion and respond to you. After Joseph shares what not to do from stage and where so many speakers are missing out, he shares what to do to create the most powerful relationship with your audience. On this episode you’ll hear him explain what predictive emotional impact learning is and why motion is intrinsically tied to emotion. He also talks about why breath and breathing is so important. Often speakers forget to breath deeply when speaking because they are nervous. If we only take shallow breaths we cut off airflow to our nervous system and that stops us from thinking clearly. If we can’t think clearly we aren’t going to fully convey our message to the best of our abilities. Listen in to episode 195 to hear all of that, plus why you must revisit your audience’s why over and over and over again. That’s just a sampling of what Joseph delivers on today’s show, tune in to hear more and then start implementing his teachings with your audience to live your best life on fire yet!
