Thriving means healthy communication and the ability to regulation emotions quickly. It builds on the healing work of earlier stages like Revive and Strive and emphasizes the importance of social connection for long-term well-being. At this stage, fulfillment, alignment, and meaningful relationships are at the core of sustained success.Other related resources from Five Ives: Blog Post: Why Traditional Employee Wellness Programs Fail (And What Works Instead)Survive Mode: Recognizing When Your Organization is in CrisisWhat are the Five Ives?Podcast:Strive- The Third Stage of the Five IvesRevive- The Second Stage of the Five IvesSurvive- The First Stage of the Five IvesWhat are the Five Ives?A Five Category Regulation Framework - Five Ives!Using Our 5-Category Regulation Framework in the WorkplaceImpacting Organizational Culture: Explaining the First 2 PsImpacting Organization Culture: Explaining the Second 2 PsOur Online Programs: Behavior BreakthroughPolicing Under PressureBoard Governance TrainingSubscribe to our mailing list and find out more about Stress, Trauma, Behavior and the Brain!Check out our Facebook Group – Five Ives!Five Ives Website websiteThe Behavior Hub blogIf you're looking for support as you grow your organization's capacity for caring for staff and the community, we would love to be part of that journey. Detroit Lions Podcast: 2025 OTA Week 1 Wrap-Up, Ragnow Updates, and Preseason Outlook The first week of 2025 OTA workouts is officially in the books, and the Detroit Lions are already making headlines as they set the tone for what could be another dominant season in the NFL. In this week's episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff Risdon break down everything you need to know about OTA progress so far, insights from Coach Dan Campbell's press conference, a closer look at the newly released Detroit Lions preseason schedule, and what the absence of minicamp means for player development. We also address growing questions surrounding team leaders Frank Ragnow and Alex Anzalone. Spring workouts have kicked off with energy and intensity in Allen Park. Players are getting back into rhythm, rookies are getting their first taste of NFL practice tempo, and the foundation is being laid for the 2025 season. With OTA Week 1 now complete, there's been strong praise for the team's preparation and chemistry. However, in a not so surprising development, the Detroit Lions announced they will not hold a traditional minicamp this year. Evidently, the addition of a 4th preseason game (the NFL Hall of Fame Game) and the fact that the Detroit Lions will be starting training camp early as a result caused the team to opt out of having mandatory minicamp this year. This will also help temper the need to answer questions about contracts if players aren't there... One of the biggest storylines coming out of OTA Week 1 is the uncertainty around Frank Ragnow. While the All-Pro center has not made any formal announcements, his absence and cryptic comments about physical wear-and-tear are raising questions about his long-term plans—and potentially his contract status. We discuss what's known, what's rumored, and what the Lions might do next. We also touch on Alex Anzalone, who is going into the last year of his contract and likely wants to rework the deal to match his status as a leader on the defense. Lastly, the Detroit Lions schedule for the 2025 NFL preseason is out. We highlight key matchups, especially those that could serve as proving grounds for fringe roster players and newly drafted talent. For full analysis of 2025 OTA developments, press conference takeaways, the Detroit Lions schedule, and updates on Frank Ragnow, tune in to this week's Detroit Lions Podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFqE8XIuQ0c Let us know what you think about the show by commenting in the podcast thread in the subreddit, or by leaving us a voice mail message via Skype at: Detroit Lions Podcast Your input will help make the show better, and if you leave us a message on Skype, you just might be featured in an upcoming podcast! Hopestream for parenting kids through drug use and addiction
ABOUT THE EPISODE:Henry Maxwell began drinking and smoking marijuana at 12 and by 17, was an IV heroin & cocaine user. Not long afterward, his experimentation expanded to nearly every scheduled drug he could find, from Xanax to amphetamines and highly unregulated substances like ‘spice'. His teen years were largely spent among serious drug users twice his age, and involved many of the traumatic experiences common in that high-risk lifestyle. At the age of 17, Henry was hospitalized for a cocaine overdose that mimicked the symptoms of a heart attack, leaving him afraid for his own life. When an attending nurse asked if he was interested in treatment, he knew he had to say yes, or he wouldn't make it to see his 21st birthday. To this day, Henry has only worked in one field: addiction and recovery. He now has a BA in psychology and certifications in mediation, intervention, and addiction. Through Maxwell Recovery Services, he has dedicated his professional life to helping families where a young person is struggling with substance misuse or addiction. In this episode, we discuss the complexities of topics like intervention and return to use, how parents can craft longer-term strategies that look beyond daily crises, and the importance of support systems for the entire family.EPISODE RESOURCES:Maxwell Recovery Services websiteMan's Search For Meaning on Amazon This podcast is part of a nonprofit called Hopestream CommunityLearn about The Stream, our private online community for momsFind us on Instagram hereFind us on YouTube hereDownload a free e-book, Worried Sick: A Compassionate Guide For Parents When Your Teen or Young Adult Child Misuses Drugs and AlcoholHopestream Community is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and an Amazon Associate. Phil, Kaitlyn, and Skye respond to questions from the listeners, including whether lay people should go to seminary, how important is attending a church after being hurt by one, and whether Christians should make violent video games. They also venture into theological topics like what pronouns are appropriate for God, what doctrines do we emphasize too much, and why they all think telling kids to “ask Jesus into your heart” is a bad idea. The crew also revisits the topic of Project 2025 and whether they regret their dismissive opinions about it from before the election. Also this week—Skye reveals plans for his new project with Holy Post Media, and one listener's question prompts Kaitlyn to make a big announcement. Dave Mustaine is the co-founder, frontman, primary songwriter, and sole consistent member of the thrash metal band Megadeth. A pioneer of the American thrash metal movement, Mustaine formed Megadeth in 1983 after his departure from Metallica, where he served as lead guitarist and co-songwriter. With Megadeth, he has released sixteen studio albums, sold over 50 million records worldwide, earned six platinum certifications, and won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2017 for the title track of Dystopia. Known for his intricate guitar work, snarling vocal style, and lyrics exploring war, politics, and personal struggles, Mustaine remains a towering figure in heavy metal. Despite overcoming challenges like substance abuse, a 2002 arm injury, and throat cancer in 2019, he continues to tour and create music, with Megadeth's latest album, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!, released in 2022. He is working on his 17th album. Mustaine is also expanding his family's wine venture, House of Mustaine, and mentors emerging artists. Hopestream for parenting kids through drug use and addiction
EPISODE DESCRIPTION:In this episode, I offer what might feel like slightly brutal truths if you're parenting a young person who struggles with substances and mental health challenges. I emphasize the importance of self-preservation for parents, noting that while you cannot force lasting change in your child or children, you can create the best conditions to foster it. I discuss the "self-preservation continuum" - the balance between being fully (overly) involved in your child's recovery and maintaining personal health and sanity. I also provide practical tools you can focus on when you have no idea what to do, and highlight the destructive impact of fear when it dominates. In this episode, Lauren and Jessica dive into the second stage of the Five Ives framework: Revive. After becoming self-aware and stepping out of pure survival mode, the journey into Revive is all about beginning the slow, intentional process of healing. It's not quick or flashy—in fact, healing is inherently soft, gentle, and gradual. This stage is about rewiring our brains and taking consistent micro-steps forward, both individually and as an organization. Lauren and Jessica explore what it starts to feel like as we shift out of survival and begin to nurture ourselves with care and attention. They highlight five key areas—food, hydration, sleep, social interaction, and movement—as foundational to this healing process. Even simple actions like adding one nutritious food to your plate, drinking more water, or getting ten minutes of daily movement can make a real impact. For organizations, supporting Revive might look like offering meditation spaces, encouraging real breaks, or fostering safe spaces for social connection. Whether you're an individual wanting to heal or a leader supporting your team, Revive is about embracing the slow, steady path to well-being.Resources:Peanut AppOther related resources from Five Ives: Blog Post: Survive- The First Stage of the Five IvesWhat are the Five Ives? Why Traditional Employee Wellness Programs Fail (And What Works Instead)Survive Mode: Recognizing When Your Organization is in CrisisWhat are the Five Ives?Podcast:A Five Category Regulation Framework - Five Ives!Using Our 5-Category Regulation Framework in the WorkplaceImpacting Organizational Culture: Explaining the First 2 PsImpacting Organization Culture: Explaining the Second 2 PsOur Online Programs: Behavior BreakthroughPolicing Under PressureBoard Governance TrainingSubscribe to our mailing list and find out more about Stress, Trauma, Behavior and the Brain!Check out our Facebook Group – Five Ives!Five Ives Website websiteThe Behavior Hub blogIf you're looking for support as you grow your organization's capacity for caring for staff and the community, we would love to be part of that journey. Hopestream for parenting kids through drug use and addiction
ABOUT THE EPISODE:We're back with another episode of the ‘Cathy & Brenda Show', and this week we tackle a topic we see recurring in our community and the parents we work with…achievement-oriented parenting. As two recovering perfectionists ourselves, Cathy and I both share examples of what it looks like to be achievement-focused when your child (or children) struggle with substances and mental health. We talk about the tendency some of us have to want everything on the outside to look a certain way, even when that's doing damage to our kids, and how it can feel scary to apply self-compassion in fear of getting ‘weak' or ‘soft.'We discuss the internal battles many of us face about wishing our kids would just “get it together” and how the Invitation To Change approach can help us instead look at them with compassionate curiosity to understand their behavior instead of punishing it. We also tap into two of our favorite authors and researchers, Dr. Kristin Neff and Jessica Lahey. If you identify as a problem solver, list-checker, task doer, results-focused person…this is your episode. We even go on a tangent or two, but promise you'll be able to relate.EPISODE RESOURCES:Dr.Kristin Neff's websiteJessica Lahey's website and Hopestream podcast episode #163This podcast is part of a nonprofit called Hopestream CommunityLearn about The Stream, our private online community for momsFind us on Instagram hereFind us on YouTube hereDownload a free e-book, Worried Sick: A Compassionate Guide For Parents When Your Teen or Young Adult Child Misuses Drugs and AlcoholHopestream Community is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and an Amazon Associate. What if injuries aren't inevitable, but predictable events with upstream warning signs we can actually address? Henry Abbott, award-winning journalist and founder of True Hoop, joins us to discuss his groundbreaking book "Ballistic: The New Science of Injury-Free Athletic Performance" that challenges everything we thought we knew about athletic durability.Abbott shares fascinating insights from his research at P3 (Peak Performance Project), where cutting-edge biomechanics analysis is revolutionizing how athletes train. Most surprisingly, he reveals how mental limitations often precede physical ones. Through a remarkable personal anecdote about holding his breath for over four minutes after minimal instruction, Abbott demonstrates how our brains frequently create barriers our bodies haven't actually reached. For runners specifically, Abbott provides practical wisdom on proper landing mechanics, identifying injury risk factors, and strengthening the often-neglected muscles beneath the knee that create efficient "bouncy" movement. Rather than obsessing over form while running, he suggests building capability through targeted training, then allowing your body to naturally implement improvements. In the Race Report Spotlight, we hear from 11 runners across four countries who completed the London Marathon. They share their experiences with punishing heat and incredible crowd support. They also describe the emotional highs of crossing Tower Bridge and finishing near Buckingham Palace. Their stories capture both the challenge and the magic of completing a World Major Marathon. Whether you're battling recurring injuries, seeking performance improvements, or simply wanting to run with less pain, this episode offers invaluable insights that might just transform your relationship with running. We have a pope and he's American! Cardinal Robert Prevost from Chicago is now Pope Leo XIV, and his connection to The Holy Post is closer than anyone imagined. Phil, Skye, and Kaitlyn discuss reactions to the new Pope and the significance of his name. Katelyn Beaty is back to discuss the evolution of the Q Conference, led by Gabe and Rebekah Lyons. Why has an event that started almost 20 years ago with a positive vision of Christian cultural engagement for the common good now shifted to embrace the culture war? And what does it reveal about larger changes within American evangelicalism? Also this week—The Trump administration is accepting refugees into the U.S. again (as long as they are white), the Quakers are on the move, caterpillar flair, and baby girl Bible names.
