678: Is Gen Z Having a Religious Revival? with Ryan Burge

The IRS has decided churches are no longer prohibited from endorsing political candidates. Is this a win for free speech or a reason for some churches to become even more partisan? The Department of Homeland Security has released a creepy new promotional video that uses the Bible to frame border security as a mission from God. The Christian who gave George W. Bush the idea of “compassionate conservatism” says the passing of the Big Beautiful Bill marks the end of an era for the GOP. Professor Ryan Burge is back with data about the religious outlook of Gen Z. Some see evidence of a revival, but Burge says it's probably wishful thinking. In this episode, Lauren explores the importance of adult emotional regulation when navigating children's challenging behaviors. She emphasizes that outbursts aren't personal—they're rooted in a dysregulated nervous system. By staying calm and composed, adults can create a sense of safety that allows children to begin co-regulating. Lauren shares practical strategies like pausing before responding, reframing the moment, and using grounding techniques to manage your own emotional state. She reminds us that regulation doesn't mean you aren't frustrated—it means choosing not to let that frustration lead. Resources:Dr. Wood's WebsiteOther related resources from Five Ives: Blog Post: Why Traditional Employee Wellness Programs Fail (And What Works Instead)Survive Mode: Recognizing When Your Organization is in CrisisWhat are the Five Ives?Podcast:Chaos to ConnectionPart 2: Behavior isn't the ProblemPart 1: Behavior isn't the ProblemHive- The Last Stage of the Five IvesThrive- The Fourth Stage of the Five IvesStrive- The Third Stage of the Five IvesRevive- The Second Stage of the Five IvesSurvive- The First Stage of the Five IvesWhat are the Five Ives?A Five Category Regulation Framework - Five Ives!Using Our 5-Category Regulation Framework in the WorkplaceImpacting Organizational Culture: Explaining the First 2 PsImpacting Organization Culture: Explaining the Second 2 PsOur Online Programs: Behavior BreakthroughPolicing Under PressureBoard Governance TrainingUniversity of Pennsylvania Behavior Breakthrough Accredited CourseSubscribe to our mailing list and find out more about Stress, Trauma, Behavior and the Brain!Check out our Facebook Group – Five Ives!Five Ives Website websiteThe Behavior Hub blogIf you're looking for support as you grow your organization's capacity for caring for staff and the community, we would love to be part of that journey. Schedule a free discovery call and let us be your guideAs an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

On this special Independence Day episode, Alex steps away from fiction and into the present-day reality of a nation at a crossroads.Dispirit of '76 (also published on Substack) is a personal roadtrip through American optimism—what it was, what it's become, and whether we still have the will to pursue the “beautiful world” promised in Donald Fagen's 1982 track “I.G.Y.” Along the way, Alex revisits key moments in U.S. history—from 1776, to the post-Civil War collapse of 1876, to the performative patriotism of the Bicentennial—and questions how the American myth holds up in an era of political grievance, disinformation, and performative outrage. This isn't just a history lesson. It's a drive through the literal and metaphorical cracks in our foundation, written from the road and the gut—with detours into the Roman Empire, Gore Vidal, altered flags, and the disorienting comfort of our modern lives. If you're looking for something reflective, pointed, and (just maybe) hopeful, this one's for you.CONNECT:All the Fits That's News on Substack (Free or Paid)Alex's Author Website Mysterious Goings On websiteContact Alex about advertising/sponsorship here.Buy a Book!Going to Killing City...Alex's True Crime PodcastAnnouncer: Mary McKenna. Whether we're talking sigils, somatics, or the neuroscience of orgasm, this episode drives home one truth: your body holds wisdom, your desires matter, and your sexual energy is a force that can heal, transform, and manifest the life you want. In this intimate and eye-opening episode of the HEAL with Kelly podcast, I sit down with world-renowned sex, love, and relationship therapist Dr. Laura Berman to explore the transformative principles behind her latest book, Sex Magic — a guide to harnessing your sexual energy to consciously create the life you crave. With over 30 years of experience, a PhD from NYU, multiple New York Times bestsellers, and regular appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, OWN, and Showtime, Dr. Berman brings unmatched wisdom, heart, and depth to this liberating conversation. Together, we unpack how women can reclaim desire beyond societal conditioning, move from performative intimacy to sacred connection, and why emotional safety — not just physical stimulation — is the true foundation of erotic fulfillment. Dr. Berman shares practical tools for cultivating quantum intimacy in long-term relationships and explains why chasing dopamine highs often leaves us empty —and what to do instead. But this episode doesn't stop at sex—it dives into the soul. Dr. Berman vulnerably shares the heartbreaking loss of her son, the metaphysical experience that followed, and how that grief cracked her open to a new level of embodiment, frequency healing, and spiritual awakening. Her journey through somatic release, emotional alchemy, and full-body “yes” living is as inspiring as it is instructive. The #runDopey  crew joins us to celebrate their sixth anniversary, sharing how they've grown from a small accountability group to a 6,000-member community transforming the runDisney experience through positivity, unforgettable costumes, and what they call "shenanigans."As official Dopey Challenge training kicks off this week (27 weeks until Marathon Weekend!), their timing couldn't be more perfect. The group's moderators Chris, Paula, Leslie, and Idalis offer invaluable wisdom for both first-timers and veterans facing the daunting training schedule ahead. Their advice resonates whether you're tackling your first 5K or your fifth Dopey Challenge: stay present in each training week, understand progress isn't linear, and never underestimate your own strength.Beyond training tips, the crew reveals the elaborate planning behind their legendary costumes (including those Soarin' flight attendants that caught Disney's attention), their race-weekend traditions involving green bows and dance floors, and heartwarming stories of how strangers became lifelong friends through shared miles. They even drop hints about an aviation-themed group costume coming for Marathon Weekend 2025!The episode wraps with our Race Report Spotlight featuring John's experience at the Tom Fleming Sunset Classic, plus a roundup of races from across the country – including a ventriloquist-themed 5K that has Jack and Greg plotting their next costume. Whether you're just beginning your running journey or counting down to your next Disney race, this episode captures the magic that happens when we rise, run, and support each other along the way.Share your story for Episode 200 by calling 727-266-2344, and join our Zoom call this Thursday!#runDopey Facebook Page#runDopey InstagramRise and Run LinksRise and Run Podcast Facebook PageRise and Run Podcast InstagramRise and Run Podcast Website and ShopRise and Run PatreonRunningwithalysha Alysha's Run Coaching (Mention Rise And Run and get $10 off)Send us a textSupport the showRise and Run Podcast is supported by our audience. With Phil on vacation, Kaitlyn and Esau join Skye to talk about the Supreme Court's ruling that public schools must allow students to opt out of gender or sexuality content that may contradict the religious beliefs of their families. At the same time, more Americans say public schools should hire chaplains to offer spiritual guidance to students. With schools increasingly becoming the front line in the culture war, can public education survive? Then, Skye talks to Rachel Martin, the co-creator of NPR's Wild Card podcast and former host of Morning Edition, about what she's learned from interviewing artists, actors, and activists about their beliefs. Have you ever found yourself wondering, “Why am I all alone?” In this heartfelt and honest episode, I'm joined by author, Val Walker to explore one of the most tender—and often silent—struggles many women face: isolation and loneliness in adulthood. Val shares the powerful story that sparked her journey into researching loneliness. Val's story highlights the harsh realities of and complicated emotions surrounding isolation. She also discusses how even a friend's abandonment isn't always what it seems. Finally, Val's story highlights forgiveness, reconciliation, and her own passion for helping others realize this simple truth - you are not alone. In fact, any one of us can become isolated through various life circumstances. The good news, though, is that, with a bit of effort, we can also find our way back from isolation and loneliness. We can find our way back to connection and community.

Nothing fires up the End Times industry faster than America dropping bombs in the Middle East. After President Trump decided to attack Iran's nuclear facilities this weekend, YouTube was flooded with convoluted and contradictory videos on the biblical implications of the war. But if this really is a prelude to Christ's return, as many online end timers claim, why are they stoking panic and fear? Shouldn't Christians welcome this news? Skye talks to Senator Chris Coons about how his faith informs his politics, why he went to divinity school, and what the Democrats can do to close the “God gap” in politics.
