Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/689 Presented by: On DeMark Lodge, TroutRoutes, Jackson Hole Fly Company, Togiak River Lodge Sponsors: https://wetflyswing.com/sponsors In this episode, we journey to fly fishing southwest Washington with expert guide Jackson Golik. Known for its impressive steelhead and salmon populations, this region offers anglers a unique experience that rivals the more renowned rivers along the West Coast. Jackson takes us on an exploration of the famous steelhead rivers such as the Kalama, Cowlitz, and Lewis. Discover the charm of these waters and learn how to optimize your fishing trips by timing them precisely and avoiding the bustling crowds. Jackson also shares his insider tips for surface and subsurface steelhead techniques, alongside strategies for hooking coho salmon—often thought of as exclusive to Alaska. Tune in to gain a deeper understanding of the southwest Washington fly fishing scene and get ready to plan your next adventure in this often-overlooked fishing paradise. Episode Chapters with Jackson Golik on Fly Fishing Southwest Washington 4:46 - Jackson shares how he got into fly fishing. He was born into the fly fishing world, as his father guided on the Bow River in Calgary. He became familiar with the industry early on and worked as a shop assistant at the Greased Line, a renowned fly shop in Vancouver, Washington. The Greased Line, which operated for about 42 years, is noted as one of the oldest fly shops in the Pacific Northwest, having started in the late 1970s. 7:01 - He tells about that time when he was introduced to Simon Gawesworth, a significant figure in the fly fishing world. This connection led to an opportunity for Jackson to work as Simon's assistant for about six months at RIO, where he handled fly line box modifications and managed their social media. 12:10 - We discuss fishing in Southwest Washington, focusing on popular rivers like the Cowlitz, Lewis, and Kalama. Jackson highlights the prolific hatchery fishery in the Kalama, but notes that rivers with more wild genetics offer opportunities for larger fish. We also touch on salmon fishing, particularly for silvers, coho, and spring chinook. 15:25 - Jackson describes coho fishing as similar to bass fishing, using heavy sink tips and flies, with the fishing done from a boat near structures like wood. The season for coho starts in early September and typically lasts through October into early November, although it's dependent on rainfall. For chinook, the peak season is around Labor Day weekend, with the best fish being bright and high-quality. Jackson notes some rivers have late runs of Chinook, like the Lewis and Sandy rivers, which receive a small run of bright fish around late November to early December. 21:16 - We explore the state of steelhead fishing in Southwest Washington compared to the Olympic Peninsula. Jackson notes that while the OP rivers have experienced closures, the Southwest Washington rivers have remained consistently open, though they receive less publicity. 26:40 - We ask him about winter steelhead fishing in November and December. Jackson recommends focusing on rivers with consistent hatchery plants for better chances, specifically mentioning the Washougal River, known for its strong Skamania stock fish and challenging whitewater conditions. 30:11 - In fishing the Washougal River during winter, Jackson mentions using heavy sink tips and typical winter flies such as leeches, with T-14 being a common choice for getting closer to the fish. Jackson notes that while the Washougal River also has good runs of summer fish, the approach varies, with summer steelhead sometimes eating dry flies. 31:50 - We briefly talk about the impact of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption on the Toutle River system. Jackson shares that he wrote a paper in college about the logging that happens in the Toutle system, highlighting the management strategy of continually raising the dam to contain sediment. 34:08 - We talk about the Cowlitz River, known for its heavy planting of hatchery steelhead, which makes it a prime location for fishing, especially if you're looking to take home fish to eat. 36:23 - Jackson owns a 1979 fiberglass Avro boat and a smaller Aire puma boat, which is about 11.5 feet long. He appreciates the fiberglass boat for its quietness and durability, noting that it can be easily repaired and modified with fiberglass and epoxy. 38:21 - We dig into steelhead fishing on the Kalama River during peak season, from mid-February to late April. He shares strategies for dealing with crowded conditions, such as knowing familiar faces and sections of the river preferred by frequent fishermen. Timing is crucial; sometimes it's better to fish later in the day when conditions improve. 43:30 - Jackson mentions that the Kalama, Cowlitz, and Lewis rivers are accessible, with numerous put-ins and take-outs available, making them great fisheries. He highlights the Kalama River, which stretches about 60 to 70 miles and originates from an aquifer, offering a long drainage. 45:19 - We discuss steelhead fishing in the region around Battle Ground, which is near the East Fork of the Lewis River, known for its historical record of large fish, specifically a 38-pound steelhead caught in the 1980s. Although the gene pool for such large fish has diminished, there are still opportunities to catch steelhead in the 20-pound range. 47:40 - Jackson highlights the Cowlitz as the best for swinging flies due to its consistent fish population, akin to salmon fishing, where fish arrive reliably mid-February each year. However, it faces heavy fishing pressure, both from conventional and fly fishers, with a significant number of boats and guides present, given the river's substantial hatchery support. 49:09 - Jackson mentions that the Lewis River has a program that supports natural spawning of wild steelhead, which has improved the run size over the past decade, attracting more anglers. Despite the predominance of wild fish, the presence of a few brood stock fish allows for some to be kept. The river is becoming busier with more anglers due to these improvements. The Kalama River, on the other hand, is known for drift boat and raft fishing, making it more competitive due to its smaller size. Anglers there often have to strategically time their fishing to avoid overcrowding and maximize their chances of catching fish. Jackson notes that the fishing dynamics in Southwest Washington are varied, with different runs and genetic variations of fish occurring throughout the year. 51:17 - Jackson recommends several local clubs and shops as valuable sources of information. He mentions the Salmon Creek Fly Fishers and the Clark Skamania clubs, highlighting their extensive knowledge due to longstanding members. Additionally, he suggests the Portland Fly Shop as a prime resource, noting that most staff have guided in the area and have considerable expertise. 52:38 - He shares his recent fishing experience on the Kanektok River, describing it as epic for Chinook fishing. We also talk about other notable locations for Chinook runs in Alaska, emphasizing the thrill of swinging flies for kings. 55:54 - Jackson expresses interest in a trip to Sudan for fishing Giant Trevally and Triggerfish, although plans changed due to the war, opting instead for an opportunity in Alaska. 58:24 - We ask Jackson for tips for a successful steelhead fishing. He emphasizes the importance of consistency in casting, advising beginners to focus on achieving a consistent casting distance and angle to increase their chances of success. He suggests that 40 feet of running line is typically sufficient. Consistency in fishing technique, rather than the number of fish caught, determines a good fishing day. He also recommends using longer leaders and heavier flies to ensure the fly sinks quickly. 1:05:14 - We quickly ask about his music preference. Jackson uses Spotify to listen to indie rock, describing it as having a synth tone and a slower tempo. Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/689
Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/681 Presented By: On DeMark Lodge, Jackson Hole Fly Company, Heated Core, Angler's Coffee Rick Lee, Hawaiian fly fishing master and saltwater expert, is back on the podcast, and today, we're diving into the waters of Christmas Island and Hawaii. Rick's got the scoop on where to find the biggest bonefish, and he's sharing some tips on how to DIY your fly fishing trips across Hawaii. We also dive into the crazy world of triggerfish. Ever wonder why they're called that? Plus, he's got some wild stories about Captain Cook's adventures (and how he met his end in Hawaii). Show Notes with Rick Lee on Christmas Island Fly Fishing. 02:33 - We catch up with Rick Lee since our last chat in Episode 116. Rick is still guiding out of O‘ahu while raising his kids. We also discuss the challenges and progress of conserving Hawaii's coastal ecosystems. He said he's helping educate visitors about protecting the bonefish and other species. 07:26 - We catch up with Rick about his time in Hawaii during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was in Christmas Island when things started to get serious and had a narrow escape, catching the last flight home before the island closed for nearly three years. He said tourism in Hawaii took a huge hit, but the silver lining was there was no traffic, no crowds, and empty surf spots. Fishing in Hawaii: What You Need to Know 09:52 - Rick shares some helpful tips for those planning a trip to Hawaii. He said that while Hawaii isn't a top destination for fly fishing, it's a great activity to add to your vacation, especially if you're looking for a few hours of fishing before the family wakes up. Oahu has some of the world's biggest bonefish, but with so many people and tourists, the fishing pressure is high. But Rick still recommends bringing your gear out for an adventure. Aside from bonefish, Rick says you can also fish for triggerfish and some varieties of goatfish. 12:37 - Rick shares that Oahu has flats around the whole island, but winter can bring dangerous surf on the north and west shores, while the south shore gets more giant waves in the summer. For those looking for specific spots, Rick recommends contacting his team for personalized advice based on where you're staying. Gear Rick suggests using a 7 or 8-weight rod, a floating fly line, and a tapered leader. For flies, crazy Charlie patterns in tan, brown, or orange work well, as do mantis shrimp patterns. 17:28 - Rick talks about catching some really big bonefish in Hawaii, with some reaching over 30 inches! The average fish on their charters weighs around 5 pounds, but you can catch ones that are 7-10 pounds pretty often. 22:53 - Rick explains that Hawaii's warm water temps stay consistent all year, from the mid-seventies to low eighties. This means you can fish for bonefish pretty much any day of the year. However, late summer and fall can bring rainy weather and strong winds, making fishing tougher. But if you're up for a challenge, the fishing is still great year-round. Casting in the Wind 23:54 - Rick says the key is to slow down and keep your stroke smooth and powerful. He also recommends casting sidearms to help the fly cut through the wind more efficiently. When it comes to rods, it's all about personal preference, but fast or medium-fast action rods work best for wind and saltwater fishing. As for fly lines, shorter, quicker shooting lines are great for windy days, while longer lines help with delicate casts when the conditions are better. 27:25 - Rick says there used to be a fly shop called Nervous Waters in Hawaii, but it closed down when the owner retired. If you're heading to Hawaii, you must bring everything you need. Fishing at Christmas Island 36:40 - Rick shares about Christmas Island, a remote spot south of Hawaii, where you can fish in a beautiful 145-square-mile lagoon. It's known for its incredible fishing variety, from bonefish and triggerfish to big tuna and sailfish. Triggerfish can grow up to 20 pounds and live in coral forts with special defenses. Rick talks about how tricky it is to catch them, but with the proper techniques, it's one of the world's best places for trigger fishing. Rick explains that a Christmas Island day isn't just about targeting one fish species. You could start with milkfish, which travel in huge schools, and then switch to offshore fishing for tuna or sailfish. After that, it's back to the lagoon to target bonefish and triggerfish. And when you think it's over, giant trevally might pop up. Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/681

What is it like to be a world-renowned cybercriminal and what motivates them? Today’s guest referred to as the original internet Godfather shares his experience running a cybercriminal empire, going on the run, and ultimately turning his life around. Brett Johnson was responsible for refining modern financial cybercrime as we know it today. After being placed on the United States’ Most Wanted list, captured and convicted of 39 felonies, Brett promptly escaped prison. Captured again, Brett served his time, accepted responsibility, and found redemption through his loved ones and the help of the FBI. Today he is considered a leading authority on internet crime, identity theft, and cybersecurity. Brett speaks and consults around the world to help protect people and organizations from the type of person he used to be. Show Notes: [1:11] - Brett starts telling his story by summing up why he got the title, “The Original Internet Godfather.” What really got him the title was him building the first organized cybercrime community called ShadowCrew. [2:24] - Brett ran both ShadowCrew and CounterfeitLibrary. The other primary cybercrime site that he did not run was CarderPlanet. [3:14] - ShadowCrew and CounterfeitLibrary were run like forums and marketplaces to connect and network with other criminals. [4:37] - Brett was arrested in 2005 and was offered a job to work with the Secret Service, but chose to continue pursuing criminal activity and eventually made his way onto the United States Most Wanted List. [5:40] - Secret Service used a Trigger Fish, now called a Stingray, which locates targeted cell phones in a specific area. This device was used to find Brett at Disney World and to arrest him. [7:37] - Brett shares the experience of his car and house being searched and how his choices got him caught. [9:54] - Brett’s tendency to break the law started when he was 10 years old and his mom was also a criminal. He shares a lot of his childhood background in shoplifting. [12:13] - Although he started shoplifting as a child, Brett says that as an adult, he made the choice to continue criminal activity. [13:32] - Brett’s first cybercrime was on eBay by posting a Beanie Baby for sale, requiring the buyer to send a money order that couldn’t be canceled, and sent her an item that did not match the post. [16:07] - Brett kept going and his eBay crimes led to pirated software, which led to modchips, which led to programming satellite DSS cards. [17:40] - After bringing in several thousand dollars per week under his real name, Brett got scared he would get caught, so he shares his story about getting a fake ID to open a bank account. [18:17] - Brett’s fear of being abandoned became a reality when his wife left him. [19:36] - Brett remarried a stripper who was an addict. Through all of his crimes, his second marriage caused his sister to disown him. [21:06] - It took several years of not speaking to his sister and justifying his actions for Brett to realize that he was in prison because he chose to break the law. [22:08] - For three after being released from prison on probation in 2011, he couldn’t get a job because he wasn’t allowed to use a computer. [23:13] - Brett met his current wife during this time and moved in with her. He was able to find a job doing yard work. [24:00] - Although he was doing better, during the winter months when there was no yard work to do, he got online to find stolen credit card information and started making orders. He went back to prison for 10 months. [25:24] - After his 10 months, he got married, and started to turn his life around. He contacted an FBI agent for job advice and now he feels he is living a blessed life. [26:40] - Now Brett does a lot of consulting and hosts a few podcasts. He also works with AARP and other types of organizations. [28:19] - A big misconception people have about cybercriminals is that they are very educated and can hack into anything. But 98% of cybercriminals out there are really good social engineers and know-how to manipulate someone using technology and psychology. [29:56] - The number 1 group for identity theft is children. [30:51] - Most people use the same password across multiple accounts. Brett says to always use a password manager. [32:38] - The reason a scam works is because the scammer and the victim are on opposite sides of the field. The scammer works to get the victim to his side by establishing trust through technology and social engineering. [34:36] - How good is the scammer at establishing trust with a victim using the technology they have? [37:09] - The scammer’s job is to make sure the victim is not thinking objectively. [37:50] - People like to trust. Generally, people like to see the best in people. Brett says to trust, but verify. [39:08] - In his experience as a consultant, Brett has found that most victims suspect something might be a scam but alienate themselves from telling anyone out of embarrassment as society tends to blame the victim. [42:16] - Chris asks Brett when a scammer stops caring about the victims and only cares about the money. Brett answers that it depends on whether or not the scammer is a sociopath. He says that most scammers are not and come to believe their own justifications. [44:18] - There’s no beneficial thing about being a criminal. [44:50] - Be proactive, not reactive, when it comes to security. Thanks for joining us on Easy Prey. Be sure to subscribe to our podcast on iTunes and leave a nice review. Lafayette native Jim Gossen has been immersed in the seafood industry since the early 1970s when he began picking up and selling Gulf seafood out of the back of his pickup truck to source fresh seafood for Landry's Restaurants. His hands-on experience and relationship building over the past few decades have given Jim an up-close understanding of the challenges facing the fisherman who captain the seafood industry and what it will take to pass on the tools for business survival to the next generation of fisherman. His message is clear: the Gulf Seafood industry must have a unified voice and be innovative as it adapts to changing circumstances if it is to remain viable for future generations. In this episode of Discover Lafayette with Jan Swift, Jim Gossen shares his love of the seafood industry, provides an historical overview of how consumers' tastes and demand for seafood has evolved, and explains why he believes Louisiana's fisherman can successfully compete globally by focusing on the quality of their superior product as compared with other country's cheaper and inferior seafood offerings. Jim Gossen's dedication to the seafood industry led him to great success as a restauranteur, seafood processor, manufacturer and distributor of fresh Louisiana seafood. In the early days of his initial business, Creole Foods, Jim drove his own 18-wheeler to source and deliver shrimp and red snapper. Creole Foods quickly evolved into a successful business renamed Louisiana Foods, a global seafood endeavor that Jim sold to Sysco in 2012. He served as Chair of the board of Sysco until his recent retirement. Jim currently serves as Chair of the Gulf Seafood Foundation, which promotes Gulf seafood, tourism, and culture. He also owns Jimmy G's by the Houston airport and Louisiana Catering, an oil-related catering business. A recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Gulf Guardian Award for his work in promoting the use and sale of by-catch (seafood such as Cobia or Triggerfish caught unintentionally while hauling in fishing nets that can be sold to restaurants), he has also been recognized by "My Table’s Legends of the Industry, Southern Living’s Heroes of the New South Awards, and is one of Cooking Light’s 20 Food Heroes in America. While today's restaurant menu typically offers salmon, crabcakes, and a variety of fish dishes, it wasn't always so. When Jim entered the distribution business in the early 1970's and moved to Houston, seafood was not a staple on menus. No one knew what Creole meant, no one knew what crawfish was. In fact, when Jim drove his fresh seafood offerings to Houston, he also carted along Community Coffee, Barq's Rootbeer, Camellia Red Beans, tasso, Veron's Andouille Sausage, and New Orleans' Leidenheimer French Bread, all of which were unknown commodities outside of Louisiana. They quickly became hits in the cowboy market of Houston and beyond.....as did Jim Gossen. At the age of 30, Jim Gossen on one of his trips to pick up food products along with fish, shrimp and oysters in Louisiana. Photo Gossen Archives Over the years, tastes have changed and the manner in which seafood is sourced has also changed dramatically. In the 1980s, restaurant patrons feasted on Speckled Trout and Redfish. Both of these fishes were made popular by Chef Paul Prudhomme and his "blackened" seafood dishes. No one could have imagined how fast the popularity of these dishes would take off worldwide and the fish became scarce due to high consumer demand. Limits were placed upon the catch of speckled trout and redfish and now they are only accessible by the recreational fishermen in the region. China and other countries, however, have been willing to step in and meet the demand for affordable and accessible seafood. "Our Gulf seafood industry has been forced to compete on price, It is time to stop competing on price and instead compete on quality." Jim Gossen Photo by Ed Lallo

It's Friday. Time for It's a Security Thing with Craig Peterson. Today, Craig discusses triggerfish, stngrays, and the Michael Cohen investigation. These and more tech tips, news, and updates visit - CraigPeterson.com --- Related Articles --- Below is a rush transcript of this segment, it might contain errors. Airing date: 03/22/2019 Michael Cohen Investigation - Triggerfish - Stingrays - Were You Caught Up In The Net Craig Peterson 0:04 Hello, everybody, Craig Peterson here. And we're going to talk about a technology and security problem from a little bit of a different angle today. You know that we've had police surveillance for years. When they get a warrant, they can start to investigate a little bit further delve in, get some of our records, maybe our cell phone records, maybe even travel records and other things. And of course, they've been casting a pretty wide net with the whole NSA investigations and what they've been allegedly doing for many years. And of course as you know, the good news is it looks like those are coming rapidly to an end. Well, let's look at this Michael Cohen story that came out this week. And you'll see it up. This is on my website at http://CraigPeterson.com and this is from CBS News. The FBI and this is by Graham Kate's, the FBI wanted Michael Cohen cell phones, but they knew they couldn't be found at his home. The problem was Cohen and his family moved into hotel while renovating their apartment. So on April 8, 2018, they decided that they would use something called triggerfish. And they wanted to find his exact location which was a room on the 17th floor at Lowes Regency Hotel. The FBI Special Agent wrote in an affidavit that was unsealed last Tuesday, that federal agents quote sought and obtained authority to employ electronic technique commonly known as trigger fish. To determine the locations of Cohen's two iPhones. The other federal agents ended up obtaining a warrant to retrieve the phones from the room. And there was a court ordered special master that later determined that the federal agents could review the vast majority of nearly 300,000 files on the two phones as well as an iPad, obtained in the search. Now, a special master's someone who can look at the evidence and determine if it might be client confidential, in the case of an attorney like Michael Cohen was, and that the FBI really shouldn't have access to it, or that the information is maybe something that might be pursuant to the case, and legit for them to look at. Now, you might have heard these triggerfishes called stingrays before. And what stingrays do is mimics cell phone towers. So they can pinpoint a phone's location, sometimes even before it makes a call or a text just because of the unique identifier that the phone has. Craig 2:50 And we're not sure what law enforcement was hoping to get from its use of the stingrays that we're targeting Cohen, because these devices can also collect them calls a text messages and even emails that are sent to and from phones, because they're sitting in the middle and you can do what's known as a man in the middle attack. Now, because they're acting the cell towers, they not they don't just get the data and information from one phone. But any other cell phones a deer in the area are going to see it and try and connect to it. So they can take in information from entire neighborhoods, which is why civil liberties groups for years have objected to the use of these things. They are absolutely crazy. Now they're made by defense contractor Harris Corporation, and the patents that it's filed indicate that they've been used for about two decades, although law enforcement rarely even admits that they have them. So now we found that they are using them, they have been using them for a long time, and they were using them specifically in the Michael Cohen investigation. Craig 4:01 Now that really is a very big deal because Michael Cohen of course with is the attorney who was involved with President Trump, in this whole Russian collusion investigation. Craig 4:16 I don't want to go into a whole lot of detail here. But the Congress did authorize what's called a pen register, which is a process that records or decodes the dialing routing address, and you're signaling information so they can figure out who's someone called when they called it from. And a pen register is basically referring referring to back in the day where someone would have a pen and paper in the phone offices, right, the switching office and track the switches and where call was being routed and would write it all down. But there's some serious Fourth Amendment concerns. The rights of citizens against unreasonable searches and seizures. In this case, obviously, for Michael Cohen, they did have a warrant. But how about for everybody else that was caught up in this thing? Yeah, it's a really good question, frankly. But these are cell site simulators. You can make them. I've got the plans to make something kind of similar to use cell phones on the ham radio bands and basically it pretends it's a cell site is not intended to do grab all of this data from all these people. But they are the most interesting know they are out there. There's passive and active ones. I am SI catchers, which are the passer ones as well as the cell site simulators. There is a ton of information out there you can find on it. Check out eff.org. To find out more the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They've got a lot of really good stuff on it. But it looks like the FBI was using some of this latest technology to investigate Cohen and by doing so probably ended up catching a lot of other data that they may or may not have had legal access to as well. So keep that in mind next time you are online. You know it's a Security Thing. And that's what we talked about are right here on my podcast. And visit me online. http://CraigPeterson.com. Hey Weight Loss Nation! www.TheWeightLossNation.com While attending Podfest Multimedia Expo in Orlando, I had the opportunity to check out another Orlando Restaurant Menu for Healthy Meals. If you're interested in learning more about Podfest Multimedia Expo go to www.podfestexpo.com/2019 Tonight, I checked out FishBones a restaurant boasting "fresh fish' and aged steaks. FishBones claims to....."offer the freshest just-caught seafood flown in daily." FishBones also claims to be ....listed as one of America's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants. Let me check that out! I "Googled" America's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants....and FishBones was not in the six different lists I viewed. I then "Googled" Top Ten Seafood Restaurants in Central Florida.....Guess What? FishBones made Trip Advisor's Top Ten List! Now that we got that straightened out......let's get to my review! Charley and Ron Woodsby.....the father and son team, who started "Talk of the Town Restaurants, Inc." in 1974.....currently own ten restaurants in the Central Florida area. The restaurants are privately owned, and are comprised of such familiar names as ....... "Charley's Steak House" named after Charley Woodsby himself, "Texas Cattle Company", "Johnnies Hideaway," "Vito's Chop House", "Moon Fish" and of course the restaurant I'm reviewing today....... FishBones. The corporate office took on the name "Talk of the Town Restaurants, Inc." and today has over 1000 employees with 64 million dollars in sales among ten restaurants. There are two "FishBone" restaurant locations: 1. Lake Mary Location 7005 County Road 46A ( H E Thomas Jr Pkwy ) Lake Mary, FL 32746 407-581-2399 Happy Hour: 4:30pm-6:30pm Available in the bar and patio only Dinging Hours: Sun-Thurs: 5pm-10pm Fri-Sat: 5pm-11pm 2. Orlando, FL Location 6707 Sand Lake Road Orlando, FL 32819 407-352-0135 Happy Hour: 4:30pm-6:30pm Available in the bar only Dining Hours: Sun-Thurs: 5pm-10:30pm Fri-Sat: 5pm-11pm www.TheWeightLossNation.com This review is for the Orlando, FL location only. When you walk into FishBones Restaurant, you realize Seafood is a specialty here. From the big, Aquarium greeting you as you enter, to the maritime feel of the furniture and decor. My party of Podcasters were greeted by FishBones Hostess - Alexa. Alexa was cordial, kind and we were seated in a more "private section" for our large party to talk and hear ourselves talk. We were greeted by our waiter Xavier, who introduced himself to our party of Podcasters and gave each of us a drink menu and dinner menu. Xavier promptly asked if any of us wanted a glass of water while we looked over the menus.......and being I drink lots of water all day, I replied a big "Yes" as well as a few of my other colleagues. The Menu at FishBones has a variety of items to suit your taste. The prices are expensive.....so don't come to FishBones if you are going to have a "chicken" entree. The Fish is boasted to be "Fresh" and flown in to the restaurant "daily." Steaks are aged steaks and cooked over an 1100° citrus and oak wood fire, the Prime Rib is cooked for 23-hours...... slow roasted. BoneFish has an award winning Wine Menu..... WINE SPECTATOR MAGAZINE'S Award of Excellence I'm a Chardonnay girl and Xavier suggested a Chardonnay Wine for me....and it was very good. Chardonnay is $8.00 - $17.00 a glass. One of the "specials" of the day was "Trigger fish" I never heard of Trigger fish and Xavier said it was flown in that day from Hawaii. When I asked him to describe Trigger Fish....Xavier stated it was like Sea Bass and would flake when I put my fork in it. I ordered the Trigger Fish and each entree comes with salad, "garlic cheese .....butter bread...as well as a "Signature Side." I did not touch the Garlic Cheese Butter Bread....and it was tough.....it looked delicious and my compadres were .....ummming and yumming over it. I did have salad, and I opted for a "premium side" since the signature sides were pretty much all about potatoes. I ordered the "creamed kale." since they didn't have "creamed spinach" on the menu. I was worried how "creamed kale" would turn out... The "trigger fish" came plated with a sauteed onion glaze and the "creamed kale" was in a separate bowl on the plate. The trigger fish was delicious! Flaky just as Xavier said it would be...and the portion size was very good. The "creamed kale" was excellent too! The Kale was soft and had the same "creamy" flavor that creamed spinach would have. Pleasantly delighted with creamed Kale. Xavier was very attentive to all our needs.....and Executive Chef.....Marcus King......came over to our table to see how everything was. My entree was awesome......unfortunately my buddy Joseph didn't have the same experience as I did. Joseph ordered the "whole gulf snapper" I was going to split the snapper with him, since I LOVE snapper, but I thought the snapper was cut and filleted. No........they cook the whole damn fish on the citrus oak wood fire....head, eyes and tail! Then they cut open the fish and there the whole damn fish is on your plate. YUCKY for me!!!! Hell no........ I don't want no fish with it's head and eyes looking at me while I'm eating. Plus it had ALL the bones in it. It's like eating the fish like a cave man for the love of God! I had to decline and I ordered the Trigger Fish. When Joseph's entree was placed before him.....I could smell a very "fishy" odor coming from his plate. Very odd for a place that "Boasts" how fresh the fish is. Within seconds.....Joseph was asking me if I smelled a "fishy" smell. I told him and we both took a bite. It tasted ok...but I wouldn't want to eat any fish that "smells" fishy. Either the fish wasn't stored properly or the fish just wasn't fresh. Joseph told Xavier and he ordered the "Florida Gator" appetizer instead. Within a few minutes......Yassine El Harra.....the Manager came over to Joseph and apologized whole-heartedly about the "Snapper." Nice gesture! After Joseph started eating his "Gator" All was good! The rest of the dinner service, conversation and meal was fabulous! How do I rate FishBones with our Weight Loss Nation thumbs up scale? My Trigger Fish dinner and service gets a BIG 2 thumbs up! Joseph's "Whole Snapper" gets a a BIG 2 thumbs down! Overall.....the service, food and atmosphere gets 1 1/2 Thumbs Up! If you're looking for a really good seafood restaurant in Central Florida.....Go visit FishBones in Orlando. They're located at ....... 6707 Sand Lake Road Orlando, FL 32819 407-352-0135 I'd like to personally thank Andrea Sutton - Operations Manager, Yassine El Harra - Manager for our lovely group that evening...... as well as Marcus King....executive chef ......Xavier our awesome waiter......and Alexa......our very pleasant and kind hostess! FishBones is expensive and you can expect to pay over $25 an entree. I wouldn't bring kids under 8 or kids that can't behave. People are spending a lot of money for excellent food and service......leave the kids home and have an awesome night out with your loved one or friends! In the course of a general investigation of the optic system in some trigger-fishes, a hypothalamic, ventricular channel-system with pores, leading to the outside of the brain, has been discovered in the inferior lobes ofRhinecanthus aculeatus (Balistidae). A description of the morphological relations of the channel-system to the blood-vessel-supply and the cranium suggests that the organ-systems involved form a functional unit. The possibility of a hormone-producing system is discussed in the light of physiological and ecological aspects.
