MOVIE NIGHT! Join Tom, Dan, & Sarah as they play that dangerous game from the depths of 1995, Jumanji! Where no boy is safe from getting bat-tornadoed into the jungle for 30 years, turned into a monkey, or bested by a pelican. In this adaption of Chris Van Allsburg's book of the same name, Robin Williams (playing Alan Parrish) shows us that not even jungle imprisonment can undo Dad-trauma, and ventures to help end the game with young Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce before our beloved Jonathan Hyde as Van Pelt can hunt him down. Unpack the complexities of this poem-driven, snakes-and-ladders colonialism revenge story, and its impact on both small American towns and local footwear empires. Contained within: monkey fun, classic screams, time paradoxes, and copious child violence.

Sisters Who Scene It

Katie and Bridget play a murderous board game as they re-watch the movie Jumanji! It's a children's horror movie (there's really no other way to spin it), all about how playing the board game Jumanji releases a number of terrifying jungle dangers set to kill you. We've got characters: Alan Parrish, who got stuck in the game for 26 years and needs to know WHAT YEAR IS IT; Sarah, who is not a good psychic since she couldn't see all this trauma coming; and orphan siblings Judy and Peter, who both just really need a vacation or something because damn. Will they be able to defeat the game and survive the animals, earthquakes, stampedes, monsoons, poisons, plants, spiders, and Van Pelt/Pam Belt? Odds aren't great but they figure it out! Released in 1995, it stars Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kristen Dunst, Jonathan Hyde, Bradley Pierce, and David Alan Grier.

Dylan and Tommy Show

Despite what you've heard from Guns N' Roses, the jungle is not all fun and games. At least not for Alan Parrish. After finding a mysterious and ominous board game, his life is changed forever when he and Sarah Whittle play Jumanji. What is Jumanji? Is it really just a board game? Perhaps a portal to another world? Or maybe it isn't a game. Maybe it's an otherworldly entity bent on the consumption of innocent board game players as their minds fall into madness… Where do all the animals and carnivorous plants really come from? And how can you get out of quicksand if people only try to grab you with things that separate? Join us and find out!

If your friend gets sucked in a magical board game, keep playing. Don't make him live in a deadly jungle for 26 years. Long before The Rock got involved, "Jumanji" was a vehicle for the late, great Robin Williams at the peak of his movie stardom. Oddly, it takes a while for Williams to make an appearance here. We've got a scene in the 1800s, then an extended sequence in 1969. Then, when a grown Alan Parrish finally emerges from his board game/jungle prison, Williams is playing a guy who is understandably bummed out. His parents are dead. He's been terrorized by wild beasts for 26 years. And he never learned how to shave. Yes, kids, the original "Jumanji" is pretty dark for long stretches. There are two different sets of dead parents! And Robin Williams isn't doing any funny voices! Come on, man. Give us some Genie pizzazz, or, at the very least, a tease of Mrs. Doubtfire. Luckily, "Jumanji" still has some charm 25 years later, thanks to strong cast featuring the likes of Bonnie Hunt, David Alan Grier and a young Kirsten Dunst. Old Millennials hosts Tyler and Angela discuss 90s-era CGI animals, the bewildering dual role for Jonathan Hyde, badly-dated "going postal" gags and David Alan Grier's one-of-a-kind scream. They also wonder out loud if they traumatized their young kids by showing them this movie. It's Animal April on Old Millennials Remember Movies! It's an adventure for those who seek to find a way to leave the world behind. Just don't show the monkeys how to load the guns. It is an adaptation of the 1981 children's book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. The film was written by Van Allsburg, Greg Taylor, Jonathan Hensleigh, and Jim Strain and stars Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, David Alan Grier, Jonathan Hyde, and Bebe Neuwirth. The story centers on young Alan Parrish, who becomes trapped in a board game while playing with his best friend Sarah Whittle in 1969. Twenty-six years later, siblings Judy and Peter Shepherd find the game, begin playing and then unwittingly release the now-adult Alan. After tracking down Sarah, the quartet resolve to finish the game in order to reverse all of the destruction it has caused.

Workshop Wednesdays with Host Tony Gambone and Special Guest Alan Parrish: Alan Parrish was not the typical cop. For more than 25 years he helped Houston neighborhood groups, business associations, and other citizen organizations develop solutions to their crime problems. From 2002 to 2008, Alan co-owned and facilitated the Secure Houston Network, a business membership organization that organized symposiums and monthly round table discussions to help managers make informed decisions related to security. Now he's helping others take charge of their relationship with police and local government. He recently launched a Kickstarter project called “How to Influence Police in the U.S.” to help citizens and businesses take advantage of the national shift in police-community relations.  The project will fund an online course providing tools for gaining influence, being alert and responsive to important issues, and learning from others in similar situations.

Alan Parrish discovers the unfamiliar stories of familiar places. Alan is co-founder of New Found Tours, a provider of audio walking tours for Rome, Italy, and blogger of DestinationStory.com, where he shares stories that often escape the typical tour. Alan spent over twenty-five years looking for and discovering stories. He was not a reporter, a filmmaker, or even a storyteller – he was a police officer. Alan heard stories every day – many of which could only be told to the police. His appreciation for stories and his passion for travel gave birth to New Found Tours. Realizing there are stories in every place, Alan has always had a curiosity for the ones that go untold. Whether it's an elderly woman's experience living in occupied Rome during World War II, or the antics of a famous person at a restaurant; they all bring life to the places we visit or read about. Alan created New Found Tours and Destination Story for those who share his interest in seeing the travel sites in new ways. He is currently writing a book about the characters who have shaped the hidden stories of Rome, and he'll soon publish new stories in audio walking tours of Barcelona and Paris.
