Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! This episode, we're stepping into the eerie and unsettling world of The Mist (2007), a harrowing adaptation of Stephen King's novella directed by Frank Darabont. Known for adapting King's works with finesse (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), Darabont delivers a tense, claustrophobic horror film that dives deep into human nature when fear and desperation take hold.Setting the Scene: Monsters in the MistThe story begins in the small town of Bridgton, Maine, where a violent storm causes a power outage. Artist David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and his young son Billy (Nathan Gamble) venture into town for supplies, along with their neighbour Brent Norton (Andre Braugher). As a mysterious mist rolls in, trapping them and other townspeople in a supermarket, it becomes clear that terrifying, deadly creatures lurk in the fog.But the true horror emerges not from the creatures outside but from the growing paranoia, fear, and fanaticism inside the store. The group splinters as Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), a religious zealot, gains followers by declaring the mist an act of divine retribution. Tensions rise, and survival becomes as much about navigating human threats as it is about avoiding the nightmarish creatures. Why It Stands OutPsychological Horror Over Monsters: The Mist isn't just about creepy creatures—it's a study of how fear can turn people against each other. The tension is unrelenting, and the real danger becomes the people succumbing to fear and fanaticism. That Ending: The gut-wrenching, bleak finale remains one of the most divisive and shocking in horror film history. Deviating from King's original ending, Darabont delivers a twist so nihilistic it haunts viewers long after the credits roll.Powerful Performances: Thomas Jane shines as a desperate father trying to protect his son, while Marcia Gay Harden's Mrs. Carmody is an unsettling portrayal of religious extremism. The supporting cast, including Toby Jones and William Sadler, bring depth and authenticity to their roles.Atmosphere and Tension: The supermarket setting is a perfect microcosm of societal collapse. Claustrophobic, tense, and rife with dread, the film captures the mounting hysteria and desperation.A Dad's TakeThe Mist is a great watch for horror fans, but it's not just about monsters. It's a disturbing exploration of human nature, moral dilemmas, and the choices we make when all hope seems lost. It's a reminder that sometimes, the scariest monsters are the ones inside us.Final ThoughtsFrank Darabont's The Mist is a horror film that lingers long after viewing. It's terrifying, tragic, and thought-provoking, delivering a uniquely unsettling experience. For dads who appreciate psychological horror and impactful storytelling, it's a must-watch—just don't expect a happy ending. So, join us as we venture into the mist, dissecting the film's themes, unforgettable moments, and that notorious ending. It's Bad Dads Film Review at its darkest!

Join Ben, Brian, and Ted for hangar talk about the joys (and pains) of annual inspections in this episode of the Midlife Pilot Podcast. The guys commiserate over their planes being simultaneously grounded, with Ben's Beast down to five cylinders and showing remarkable "patience" (or is it numbness?). Brian dishes on his new book of aviation essays "Make Small Corrections," while Ted smugly reminds everyone his oil-free belly never needs scrubbing. The fellas debate what aircraft they'd come back as in the next life, swap formation flying stories, and remind everyone about the upcoming Texas meetup. Pull up a chair in the hangar and settle in for another episode that'll make you feel right at home in the best pilot community around.Mentioned on the show:* Ernest Goes To Jail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Goes_to_Jail* The Green Mile: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Green_Mile_(film)* Nashville prison: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_State_Prison* Paul Craig episode 120: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/midlifepilotpodcast/episodes/EP120---Descending-from-Mount-Stupid-with-Paul-Craig-e30b2sb* Cessna 195: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_195* Stinson v77: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinson_Reliant* Lockheed AC130: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_AC-130* Continental IO520: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_IO-520* Georgia Tech Wreck Racing: https://wreckracing.gatech.edu/* RMG Rome airport: https://www.airnav.com/airport/RMG* Sam's Burger and Deli: https://www.samsburgerdeli.com/* XNX Music City Executive: https://www.airnav.com/airport/XNX* "Cessna 140 Ben": https://flywithben.com/* Centerline Aviation: https://centerlineair.com/* Cessna 337 Skymaster: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_Skymaster* TomAir's Cessna 337: https://www.youtube.com/@tomairtv* The Green Machine: https://www.retroist.com/p/the-green-machine* Brian's book, "Make Small Corrections": https://amazon.com/dp/B0DZWQKGJX* Original Kindle with a keyboard: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Amazon_Kindle_(original_version)

Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) dive into one of the most intense psychological thrillers ever—Rob Reiner's Misery, based on the legendary Stephen King novel! This chilling classic follows Paul Sheldon (James Caan, The Godfather, Elf), a best-selling author who finds himself at the mercy of his number-one fan, Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates, Titanic, American Horror Story), after a brutal car crash leaves him stranded in her remote home. As Annie's obsession spirals into madness, Paul must fight for his survival in a game of manipulation and terror. The film also stars Richard Farnsworth (The Straight Story, The Grey Fox) as Sheriff Buster and Frances Sternhagen (The Mist, Sex and the City) as his wife, Virginia. We react to all of Misery's most infamous moments, including The Car Crash, Annie's "I'm Your Number One Fan" Introduction, The Typewriter Scene, Paul Sneaking Out of His Room, The Dinner Poisoning Attempt, The Hobbling Scene, The Final Fight, and The Chilling Ending!
Send us a textFilmshake's year of 1999 ends with one of 1999's final releases, The Green Mile. Your hosts were so emotionally devastated by this film 25 years ago that they haven't had the heart to venture back to it...until now. But this isn't just an episode on The Green Mile...it's a culmination of everything Filmshake has done this year...which means it's time for one more cell-rattling argument! But before your hosts can fight over anything, they have to discuss this episode's punishment film: the incredible, incredibly bad 1999 Mortal Kombat-inspired "techno-future" softcore and swords adaptation of Beowulf! Stephen King's The Mist is a novella about the residents of a small Maine town stuck in a grocery store as an unnatural mist rolls into town concealing all sorts of Lovecraftian horrors. Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) made a very divisive, but hugely effective, adaptation in 2007.

You'll quickly learn why bringing this conversation with the legendary Willie D. Burton to you is such an incredible honor. History-making, Willie's the first Black person to ever win an Academy Award for Best Sound. It was for 1988's Bird, a biopic about the life of jazz musician Charlie Parker. In 2006, he won a second Academy Award for Dreamgirls, joining an elite club of African Americans in Hollywood who are multiple Oscar Award winners. We talk about how, at an early age, walking past a radio station ignited an interest in audio after he took a peek inside. Truly immersing himself in electronics through a school program, he graduated high school. Leaving his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama with $50 in his pocket, he relocated to Long Beach, California, later becoming a sonar technician in the Navy. About three years later, he began to pursue a career in audio. After amassing some work experience in sound, Willie shares a truly remarkable story about the time Sydney Poitier took a big chance on him for what would become Willie's first time working on a feature without having any prior feature credits to his name. Now, having worked on over 140 film and television projects, Willie's earned a total of 8 Academy Award nominations. They include The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and most recently, Oppenheimer. Willie's stories about working on the epic Oppenheimer movie with director Christopher Nolan provide a unique insight into their collaboration and technological approach to sound. Willie shares some great advice as well as his thoughts on the ever-evolving film industry and the power of following one's intuition in choosing projects. His latest, Captain America: Brave New World, premieres in 2025. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/postinblack/support
On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, it is time to settle a debate as old as time: Is Stephen King truly the Master of Horror? Aaron and Troy dive deep into how they came into the world of the renowned writer, which type of King is the best, when he does or doesn't work, films such as Cujo, Carrie, Salem's Lot, IT, Storm of the Century, The Shining, Silver Bullet and many others, and land on that final question of is he, in fact, the Master of Horror? Then, it's time for a trip to the vault as we take a look at the movie adaptations of arguably the greatest horror author in history, Stephen King. For several decades now, both readers and audiences have been terrified by the works of Stephen King, in all forms of entertainment. As with anything, not all of his adaptations click, and occasionally the results are scarier than the source material, and those that do, have become classic films that have horrified generations. Because we love King, we left it to our listeners to decide the final eight films with which we'd handle on this Movie Battle Royale, and the nominees are all great in their own way: Film such as Pet Sematary, The Mist, Misery, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Stand By Me, IT (2017), The Shining. Which will end up as the greatest Stephen King adaptation of all-time? Discussed on this episode (0:00 – 55:26) Is Stephen King the Master of Horror? That's why I don't like the idea of always being confident to take action. How can you be confident if you've never done the thing before? Confidence is the result of action, not the fuel of action." - Akshay Nanavati No Emotion Is Either Good or Bad "There's no bad emotions, there's no good emotions, there's only emotions. It's the label of bad, the assignment of the judgment of the emotion that causes more problems than the emotion itself. The second you accept the "isness" of the emotion and become aware of it without deeming it bad, then you can use any emotion as fuel to drive you into something better." - Akshay Nanavati The Power of Nature "Nature makes you realize how small you are, but at the same time, you feel all powerful out there because simply by stepping in that playground to control your reality, to be there, to survive, to thrive out there, you feel more powerful than you've ever felt. It's an experience of both control and surrender, and ego and humility" - Akshay Nanavati Links From Today's Show Akshay Nanavati FEARVANA: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth and Happiness by Akshay Nanavati Dave Asprey Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl BREATHE: Breath & Wellness Program - 33% off with code "PODCAST33" 410 Mark Divine | Positive Neurodiversity: Kokoro Spirit, The 5 Mountains For Inner Peace, & How To Fulfill Your Potential Black Hawk Down Braveheart 411 Gay Hendricks | The Genius Zone: The Breakthrough Process to End Negative Thinking and Live in True Creativity Finding Joe 565 Pavel Stuchlik | Connecting Back With Spirit: Dark Retreats, Iboga + EMF Detox (Your Guide To Self-Transformation) The Green Mile Akshay Nanavati on The Dr. Drew Podcast Akshay Nanavati: Find strength in fear 589 Alex Charfen | The Freedom Life: How To Program Yourself For Success In Mind, Body, Spirit + Soul 201 Finding Mastery: Micheal Gervais Support Akshay's journey The Hero's Journey: Joseph Campbell on His Life and Work by Joseph Campbell 555 Mike Dillard | Richer Every Day: How To WIN The War on Your Money + Mind Josh's Trusted Products | Up To 40% Off Shop All Products Biohacking BREATHE - 33% off with the code “PODCAST33” SaunaSpace - 10% off with the code "JOSH10" PLUNGE - $150 off with the code “WELLNESSFORCE" SiPhox - 10% off with code "JOSH" BON CHARGE - 15% off with the code "JOSH15" SpectraSculpt - 15% off with the code "JOSH15" Defender Shield - Save 10% with "TRENT10" Neuvana - Save 15% with "WELLNESSFORCE" Supplements Organifi - 20% off with the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' MANNA Vitality - 20% off with the code "JOSH20" LiftMode - Save 10% with "JOSH10" Adapt Naturals - 15% off with code "WELLNESSFORCE" MitoZen - 10% off with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” Activation Products - 20% off with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” BiOptimizers - 10% off with the code "JOSH10" Lightbody Total Eye Health - 20% off with "JOSH20" at checkout. Since then, by embracing his demons, he has built a global business, run many ultramarathons including a 24-hour run and 167-mile run across Liberia to help build a school, spent 10 days in darkness and isolation, skied 350 miles across the world's 2nd largest icecap for a month and become 1 of only 26 people to ski up a remote glacier in Antarctica. Despite 4 biological defects including a blood disorder that 2 doctors told him would kill him in boot camp, he is now a sponsored athlete and is currently training for a 110-day, 1700-mile, solo, never-before-accomplished crossing of Antarctica. Combining his life experience with years of research in science and spirituality, he wrote the book “Fearvana," about which the Dalai Lama said, “Fearvana inspires us to look beyond our own agonizing experiences and find the positive side of our lives.” All the profits from the book are going toward charity. Akshay is now on a mission to help our human family fall in love with suffering in order to create a life of greater meaning, purpose, joy, and fulfillment.
