Indoor air quality is slowly becoming a mainstream issue, but how can we improve public awareness and emphasize the huge damage it is causing economically, to our health and even our children's brains? Today, we hear from one of Australia's lead clean air campaigners, who has been working on a framework to make clean air as important as clean water. Having worked in public health for almost fifteen years, first combating the harms of tobacco, we learn why indoor air needs to be next on the agenda and the pathways experts are suggesting to get there. Our guest has been working with governing bodies and multi disciplinary teams to progress Australia's indoor air quality. With a background in radiation oncology and a passion for sustainability, she is currently working with the Burnett Institute and University of Melbourne. Welcome to the Shannon Rollason Podcast, a swimming podcast like no other. Today Shannon changes up the format and goes one on one with former Australian Swimming Head Coach and a man who lead Australia to it's equal most successful Olympic Medal tally in the pool Mr Alan Thompson. In this podcast Shannon and Alan discuss the late 90s to 2000s in our sport, and share rare stories of a time where both coaches were right in the thick of it when it comes to the Australian Swim Team. Alan is a unique coach in that he has appeared on the Australian team in many forms from a manager, Open Water head coach, Olympic coach in 2004, to Head Coach. The boys discuss trying to ensure both the Men's and Women's teams are firing at the same time come Olympic Games which isn't easy to get right, as well as Alan's take on the super suit era. We ask him his favourite Swimmers of all time, as well as his role as Head Coach and what he got right, and if there's anything he would change. Of course we also ask about his time working at Campbelltown Swimming Club and the great athletes and coaches that came from that pool out west. It's very rare you get to hear from Alan Thompson, and such is the respect he has for Shannon in agreeing to come on the podcast for a chat, very insightful, great stories, from one of the most respected men in the business.   Enjoy

Danielle is a high performance coach who now runs her own business ELOTIK PRO TRIATHLON - https://www.elotikprotriathlon.com She comes from an impressive background as a Sports Scientist which has seen her working with a variety of sports, eg. Track and field, cycling, men's hockey, and also included the role as a physiologist for the Australian Swim Team. She eventually took on the role as the Triathlon Head Coach at The Victorian Institute of Sport, but unfortunately was faced with a rough road ahead in this position. Danielle ruffled a few feathers when she earned this title, receiving a lot of backlash, threats and bullying, all from those who didn't feel she deserved the role. BUT, she stuck it out. We were a little gobsmacked with this part of her story, and Danielle doesn't want to dwell on it, but we both felt it was an important topic to discuss. Onto more positive notes, Danielle now works for herself with elite triathletes, and is looking into improving junior development within the sport.
