Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
About this Episode Pelvic floor health is a topic that's often shrouded in mystery and silence, yet it is fundamentally linked to our overall well-being, affecting everything from incontinence to intimacy. Many individuals, particularly those with female bodies, face the challenges of pelvic floor dysfunction post-pregnancy, during menopause, or even as athletes, without realizing that it is common but not normal and certainly not something they have to live with. Ignoring pelvic floor care can lead not only to physical discomfort but also strain in relationships due to issues like pain during intimacy or a lack of awareness surrounding one's own body needs. In this episode, we delve deep into the world of pelvic floor rehabilitation and prevention therapy to uncover the importance of addressing these issues head-on. Through holistic approaches, including exercises, education, and community support, listeners will learn about the often-overlooked muscles that play an important role in our bodily functions and intimate relationships. By shedding light on the resources and techniques available, listeners are encouraged to break the stigma, embrace their journey to healing, and ultimately improve their quality of life and connections with others. Patricia Siegel is a German native and Sports Scientist specializing in pelvic floor rehabilitation and prevention therapy. Ever wondered who's behind the scenes supporting our athletes to peak for the biggest races of their lives? This week we get a back-office perspective of high performance sport with sports scientist Avish Sharma. Avish dials in from an altitude training camp in St Moritz, Switzerland where he's been supporting our Australian athletes in their preparations for Paris. We talk about how hills, heat and altitude help optimise performance, but also the soft skills required for creating a positive training environment. In other words, it's all about a holistic approach. As an example, Jess Hull has spoken about numerous factors that have led to her breaking the 2000m World Record (5:19.70) and becoming 5th fastest woman of all-time over 1500m (3:50.83). Avish Sharma is a Performance Scientist (Physiology) at the Victorian Institute of Sport in Australia, working in the Athletics program. Prior to this, he was physiology and research lead at Triathlon Australia (2018 to 2021). He completed his PhD in altitude training (training prescription and periodisation at altitude in elite runners) at the Australian Institute of Sport and University of Canberra, whilst also supporting the Athletics and Swimming programs based there. His interests include endurance physiology (particularly optimising training prescription), holistic success factors for world class athletes, developmental pathways for sport scientists, being a mediocre surfer, and eating noodles. -- Follow Run With It on Instagram @runwithit.pod Intro and outro music by Dan Beacom Graphic design by Kate Scheer
The Tillies are the Australian football team taking the country and the world by storm. But behind every great football team, there's an amazing team of experts working behind the scenes, incredible women who help to manage the Matildas. Georgia Brown is the Assistant Sports Scientist at the Tillies, who is changing the game when it comes to research around female footballers in Australia. She's currently completing her PhD on the effects of the menstrual cycle on football performance and recovery, and we couldn't think of a better place for her to do that research than with the Tillies. This episode proves that there are so many roles and opportunities for women in sports both on and off the field, we hope you enjoy this mini-series: managing the Matildas.Buy our kids book The A to Z of Who I Could Be, or book for adults GIRLS DON'T PLAY SPORT. www.thefemaleathleteproject.com/shop Get the wrap delivered into your inbox as a weekly newsletter! Ok, I raced well or I raced poorly but what's the ‘how' and ‘why' behind this?? How good would it be if we could peak under the hood? This is exactly what Nick Jankovskis @nj_sportscience does for a living. Nick is a Sports Scientist and endurance performance coach at METS Performance Consulting. A specialist in improving endurance performance by accurately analysing performance through physiological testing to prescribe individualised training to optimise athlete performance. He helps runners answer questions like: How big is my engine? How efficient is my engine? Where could I improve? Is my current training efficient and aiding better performance? What training should I prioritise/maintain? Why should I train differently at times to my training partner? Thanks for the ripping conversation Nick and I look forward to doing some testing with you for a few of the athletes I coach over the coming months (a repeat podcast discussing the results is a must!). If other runners are also interested in doing some physiological testing with METS performance consulting be sure to check them out here: @metsperformance Welcome — METS Performance Consulting
In this episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast, Sports Scientist at the Melbourne Storm rugby league club, Rob Delves discusses the growing use of PowerBI in sports science for data analysis and visualization. PowerBI is becoming a preferred tool over Excel due to its efficiency in handling larger data sets from multiple sources. Rob emphasizes the importance of upskilling in data analysis and communication within sports science, as resources can be limited. PowerBI provides streamlined data management and visualization capabilities, allowing for more advanced data manipulation than Excel. Its easy access, customization options, and cost-effectiveness make it an attractive alternative. Rob highlights that PowerBI offers a uniform platform for data access and management, reducing the need for physical report distribution and potential errors. It integrates smoothly with existing Microsoft Office suites and ensures data security through multi-factor authentication. The transition from Excel to PowerBI is facilitated by their similar layouts, making it user-friendly for those familiar with Excel. The podcast also covers the benefits of PowerBI in saving time through automation, which allows coaches to focus more on coaching rather than data entry. Data from training sessions can be quickly synced into PowerBI, streamlining the analysis process. However, Rob notes the challenges in collecting subjective data from athletes, as it may not always be reliable. Rob concludes by discussing the integration of APIs for advanced data analysis, the importance of investing in data science skills, and the creative visualization opportunities that PowerBI offers. He suggests that while PowerBI is excellent for data reporting, it may not be the best tool for integrating video analysis. Main talking points: The importance of efficiency in data analysis and communication PowerBI and its difference and similarities to Excel Increased data security through using a cloud based solution How to streamline data processing with PowerBI Visualisation options in PowerBI versus Excel Increased statistical analysis in PowerBI Combining PowerBI and R or Python Automation and PowerBI
