The 14 year old wunderkid Vaibhav Suryavanshi has just assaulted four international bowlers for a 35 ball hundred in the IPL: Its the second fastest IPL hundred of all time after Chris Gayle's 30 ball effort in 2013, and earned him the nickname Boss Baby. After trying to digest this astonishing performance, Simon Hughes and Simon Mann talk to Leicestershire's Ian Holland, the leading wicket-taker in Division 2, about being top of the table, who are the best all-rounders in the county game and who has the silliest nicknames. Isn't it beautiful when blokes just care? Once again our golden generation bails us out of cricketing dystopia in ways “everyday” Australians understand. Forget our systemic sleepwalk into decline, what we really want to know is: who is the alpha? The answer is neither Cummins nor JL, and may surprise you. Elsewhere, blokes continue the eternal quest for social capital, but this time they're thieving real capital (allegedly), according to Victoria Police. In the old days, focused work on the chest and triceps would do the trick. Nowadays you apparently need bulk sheets to be loved. Separately, Chris Gayle made 95 red in some wheelie bin shit in Dandenong. The PMs XI played, numbers were ascribed to names, and we refuse to know anything about the West Indies. The Strikers are WBBL champions after the Sixers crumbled, begging the question: was there simply too much sun? At least the Sixers still engender safety - the NSW men are weaker than ever and we argue the nation should be concerned. Other countries are playing some cricket, too, and they're given due respect on this show (about 90 seconds), before the show eventually gives way to material that matters: what strategies exist for minors in team tubs when there's a bloke called “Felly”? In the latest episode of the podcast we discuss a fundamental question that underpins a T20 contest: does batting have a place in T20? “Australia wins the whole thing.”Corbin Middlemas and former Aussie opener Ed Cowan look ahead to Australia's T20 World Cup semi-final against Pakistan, before examining the legacy of Chris Gayle, who bats at five for the Aussies this summer, and the future of the BBL.
Cricket.com.au pair Josh Schonafinger and Louis Cameron were not wearing Chris Gayle's huge sunglasses but they still managed to keep a close eye on all the action from Australia's win over West Indies. The Aussies' spot in the semi-final was confirmed only after South Africa then failed to make up a net run-rate gap in their narrow win over England (0.46). Other hot topics were Josh Hazlewood's big game with the ball (4.01), how an impressive David Warner countered Akeal Hosein's 'filthy arm balls' (7.40), Mitch Marsh's improvement against spin (10.00), Gayle and Dwayne Bravo's international swansongs and whether it's advisable to face 150kph bowling in oversized service station-bought sunnies (11.42) before looking ahead to a likely semi-final match-up with Pakistan (16.55).

Eighteen months ago it was hard to imagine we'd have the final of the IPL and the opening games of a T20 World Cup within the same week, but in this new-normal world that's exactly what happened. We talk the excellent turnaround from CSK, led by Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni, who powered to victory via the bats of Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali, and an excellent campaign from the full squad. There's also plenty of love for KKR and their Kiwi contingent for the way they stormed into the final. Speaking of Faf du Plessis, we discuss his omission from the South African T20 World Cup squad, as well as Imran Tahir and Chris Morris, and debate whether the West Indies should have made an exception for Sunil Narine. As the T20 World Cup conversation continues, our Universe Boss correspondent provides a Chris Gayle update, before we discuss the opening day of the tournament, which saw hosts Oman defeat Papua New Guinea and Scotland upset Bangladesh. For more T20 World Cup coverage, check out our preview of the tournament, which focuses largely on the Super 12 stage, plus our episodes with Niall O'Brien and Daniel Beswick, which include content about the group stage. After a hat-trick of quality guests, normal service resumes as we discuss recent events across the cricketing world. We talk about the raft of Black Caps performing on the English county circuit, including Glenn Phillips, Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne, and the prospect of huge competition for spots as New Zealand builds towards the T20 World Cup. Baldy really enjoys it as he's questioned about Australia's performances against the West Indies: Are they any closer to knowing their best XI in T20 cricket? Should Mitchell Marsh be in that lineup? Are there problems behind the scenes? And we heap praise on the West Indies who, even after their recent series losses to South Africa, look an incredibly united cricket side that are so fun to watch and so dangerous in the white-ball formats, with a batting lineup featuring the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard, plus the emergence of bowlers like Obed McCoy and Hayden Walsh. After a swish, it's England's turn to receive our praise, with their incredible limited-overs depth demonstrated by series wins against Sri Lanka, followed by Pakistan with a complete team swap in between. Binksy explains why it's easier to make the step up to international cricket in ODIs and T20s than it is in Test match cricket, and why we should all have posters of Joe Root on our wall. Raj takes us through Sri Lanka's off-field struggles and Lippy asks: Will they even qualify for the 2023 World Cup? If you haven't already, dip back into our recent episodes - Jarrod Kimber takes us on a deep dive of New Zealand Cricket on and off the field, and evaluates the World Test Championship as a format; Tim Southee talked about the pride the Black Caps felt after finally getting their hands on another ICC trophy; and Iain O'Brien was incredibly candid sharing stories from his career and his philosophy on life and cricket as he moves into a coaching gig with Cricket Wellington. Coming up, you'll be introduced to Baldy's Test Cricket Hall of Fame, in a series of podcasts and written material that's bound to ruffle a few feathers and generate plenty of debate. In this episode of the show, we span the globe to chat through the cricketing week that was. We start in India to discuss their excellent white-ball series against England. Did India keep a few tricks up their sleeve? Are the days of the big-daddy hundred over? Will Virat Kohli's move to open become permanent? And can we expect similar run-fests in the 2021 T20 and 2023 ODI World Cups? With all the talk of run-fests, we return to New Zealand shores to discuss how equipped this current Black Caps side is to chase down huge totals. We ask whether Devon Conway is a cybernetic organism with living tissue over metal endoskeleton, heap praise on Daryl Mitchell and ponder potential candidates for an extended T20 World Cup squad. We finish the show with the continued success of Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner, which has the West Indies on the improve, as well as the most important question of the evening: If you're not Chris Gayle, is it ever acceptable to wear sunglasses when you're batting? Guy Walker showed plenty of potential as a fast bowling all rounder catching the attention of the selectors and securing a professional contract at Victoria aged 17. This lead to having a season as a rookie with the Melbourne Stars and three summers at the Melbourne Renegades brushing shoulders with the likes of Aaron Finch, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Cameron White. Unfortunately, Guy's cricket career came to an end as a result of a serious shoulder injury. An opportunity then arose for him to switch codes with the Melbourne Football Club offering him a contract where he again succumbed to an injury and was forced to draw the curtain on his athletic pursuits at age 24. In our chat we discuss where his passion for cricket began, his time playing and touring with Junior Australian sides, playing a Youth Test and making his BBL debut. We also look at the important question of where we find our identity in life and the challenges of transitioning out of life as a professional athlete and finding other pursuits to work towards. As always, we will find out which three people he would most like to have an hour in the nets with. Please remember to subscribe to the Cricket Library Podcast on your favourite podcast provider and leave a review to help us to continue to share stories like this one from Guy Walker.
