This week we're joined by Beau Neilson to hear all about MyGigPass. MyGigPass is an awesome new initiative aimed at getting more young people seeing live music. The initiative works by offering a platform where venues and artists can offer up free or discounted tickets to shows to 18-25 year olds that have signed up. MyGigPass has been put together by the Live Music Venues Alliance with support from the NSW Government; and in its early months is seeing strong adoption from both venues and punters. We (mainly Cam, actually. Eamonn had internet issues) dive into the nuts and bolts of MyGigPass and also explore Beau Neilson's journey, including the many important roles she now holds within NSW and Australian music. Thanks for listening! At the heart of the fiercest international conflicts is the struggle for the future of globalization. In the wake of a pandemic that tested economies and societies, geopolitical conflict has taken on a new intensity. The Rest and the West: Capital and Power in a Multipolar World (Verso, 2024) locates the origins of this development in the turbulent dynamics of the capitalist world market. Rather than reducing global conflict to a matter of great power rivalries or the process of economic decoupling, Sandro Mezzadra and Brett Neilson investigate the increasing centrality of war to capital operations and to the transformation of capitalism. The goal is to forge a theory of imperialism adequate to a world in which the ‘rest' no longer provides a putative unity that defines and opposes the ‘West'. Brett Neilson is professor and deputy director at the Institute for Culture and Society, Western Sydney University. In the last decade, his work has centered on issues of migration, borders, and globalization, logistics and digitalization, contemporary capitalism, geopolitics, and automation. OSA and Parkinson's Risk: Can CPAP Change Outcomes?

Talking Sleep

In this episode of Talking Sleep, host Dr. Seema Khosla welcomes Dr. Lee Neilson, Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Iowa and staff neurologist at the Iowa City VA specializing in movement disorders, to discuss his groundbreaking research examining whether obstructive sleep apnea represents a modifiable risk factor for Parkinson's disease. Dr. Neilson's ambitious study analyzed records from 13 million patients within the VA system to investigate whether OSA is associated with higher risk of neurodegenerative disorders and whether treating sleep apnea might help delay the onset of dementia. The conversation traces the research design from initial hypothesis through methodology, explaining how he narrowed this massive dataset and defined both OSA diagnosis and Parkinson's disease progression. Critical methodological details emerge: How was OSA diagnosed—through sleep testing, and using 4% or 3% hypopnea criteria? How did the study differentiate between mild and severe sleep apnea? How was Parkinson's disease identified—through clinical notes, medication records, or longitudinal follow-up? Dr. Neilson clarifies whether the analysis included only PD or extended to other neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease. The core findings receive extensive examination: Did CPAP therapy have a modifying effect on PD risk? After adjusting for confounding factors including BMI, diabetes, depression, and hypersomnia, which variables mattered most? What was the number needed to treat to prevent one case of Parkinson's disease? Could hypoxic burden be examined as a potential mechanism? Intriguing tangential discussions explore whether idiopathic RBD can be distinguished from trauma-related RBD and whether these represent separate pathological processes. The conversation takes an unexpected turn into the neuroprotective effects of smoking in Parkinson's disease, with Dr. Neilson explaining proposed mechanisms and drawing parallels to ischemic preconditioning that might occur with OSA. The episode addresses severity gradients—did OSA severity correlate with PD risk? It also tackles a fundamental question: Does treating sleep apnea delay dementia onset or actually prevent it? Dr. Neilson discusses whether non-PAP therapies were examined and addresses a critical ethical concern in sleep apnea research: Is it irresponsible to withhold treatment from symptomatic patients, and did this study focus on non-sleepy individuals or include all OSA patients regardless of symptoms? This research has profound implications for how sleep medicine practitioners frame the importance of OSA treatment with patients and families. Beyond addressing immediate symptoms like sleepiness, treating sleep apnea may reduce long-term neurodegenerative risk—a compelling motivation for adherence that extends beyond quality of life to disease prevention. Whether you're counseling patients about the importance of OSA treatment, interested in the sleep-neurodegeneration connection, or seeking evidence-based approaches to discussing long-term benefits of therapy, this episode provides essential insights. Join us for this important conversation about how the work sleep medicine practitioners do every day may profoundly impact patients' neurological futures.

We talk about the astrology of her characters and what insights she can gain from their charts, and then, she gives us a list of restaurants to try if we're ever in Providence, Rhode Island. And Riss even expands my theory about which foods are the universal expression of human love....Support for this episode comes from Savage Bonds by EV Mitchell, a gritty, paranormal slow-burn body-positive romance with lots of spice, some knotting, and shared psychic sexytimes. Send a textEp 274---, UK Reality Diamon Freddie joins me for the first part of the show to do a deep dive patreons have been begging for — tying together the Epstein files, Russian oligarch murders, and the original Ladies of London cast, just as Bravo announces the reboot premiering March 5th. We start with Annabelle Neilson, the Alexander McQueen muse and ex-wife of Nathaniel Rothschild, who appears in the Lolita Express flight logs and was a direct rival to Ghislaine Maxwell — until a warning email Ghislaine sent about her surfaced in the files. We get into Annabelle's devastating assault in Australia as a teenager by a man who went on to kill other women, and how she, Naomi Campbell, and Ghislaine formed a trio doing something very specific for Epstein involving young models. Then we go deep on Noelle Reno and Scot Young, found impaled on a fence in a "suicide" — but wait until you hear about the Project Moscow scheme, how Putin allegedly stole hundreds of millions from oligarchs, and how EVERY member of Scot's social group ended up dead. A Novichok poison threat Noelle received years later changes everything. Caroline Stanbury dated Prince Andrew right after Fergie — and may have been brought into this circle by Ghislaine herself. Then Freddie walks us through the entire new cast including Lady Emma Thynn with the safari park estate and Meghan Markle drama, Mark-Francis Vandelli from Made in Chelsea, Martha Sitwell dating Charles Saatchi with connections back to the Russian deaths, Missé Beqiri whose brother was shot 10 times on Christmas Eve in a gang hit tied to Albanian drug trafficking, and the American cast members shaking up London society. After Freddie leaves, I dig into actual Epstein emails — Les Wexner's bizarre stream-of-consciousness notes, a judge ordering Wexner to testify in an Ohio abuse case, communications proving Elon Musk's SpaceX visit that he publicly denied, how Epstein's publicist got him access to Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon, and Ghislaine arranging for her nephew to meet these actresses. I end with something that will blow your minds — I found what I'm calling the HOLY GRAIL email, a never-published document from a respected journalist close to Epstein that lays out a blueprint of his entire operation with the biggest names involved. I'm saving it for next week — you do NOT want to miss it.Full episode only available at Dishing Drama Dana Patreon,it's only $6.00 a month, join the fun! https://www.patreon.com/cw/DishingDramaWithDanaWilkeySupport the showDana is on Cameo!Follow Dana: @Wilkey_Dana$25,000 Song - Apple Music$25,000 Song - SpotifyTo support the show and listen to full episodes, become a member on PatreonTo send Dana information, show requests and sponsorships reach out to our new email: dishingdramadana@gmail.comDana's YouTube Channel

But the next day, Friday, would be a day like no other.Overnight, just down the road in Rainworth, another colliery community, Britain's most wanted fugitive had been arrested in dramatic circumstances. The children arrived bursting with the news – and bursting with pride at the bravery of the grown-ups who'd helped tackle an armed killer with their bare hands. The police soon followed, conducting house-to-house enquiries, seeking witnesses, and looking for evidence to build the case against the armed robber, killer and kidnapper Donald Neilson – the infamous Black Panther. When Simon Ford spoke to Lynn Dorling, he started by asking her what those coalfield communities were like – and the camaraderie, grit and courage that defeated Neilson on a winter's night 50 years ago.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.

What do their changing forms of engagement mean for land relations, sustainability, and the future of agrarian communities? Jeff Neilson's Fortress Farming: Agrarian Transitions, Livelihoods, and Coffee Value Chains in Indonesia (Cornell UP, 2025) offers an explanation that centers on a defensive livelihood strategy observed among, in particular, coffee producing smallholders. This livelihood strategy, understood as “fortress farming”, is undertaken by smallholder households that are reluctant to maximize production despite their engagement with major coffee roasting companies. Instead, they maintain their small farms to defend themselves from insecurity while pursuing sources of wealth off farm. Clearly I'm a fan of Rob's work and I couldn't wait to see what type of films inspired him.
