This is your Friday Refresh brought to you by the Stayin Alive Disco Dodgeball Tournament that takes place at Mars Hill Bible School in Florence Alabama on August 16, 2025. All proceeds benefit St. Jude Research Hospital. Festivities will begin at 10 AM. More info at BenandTravis.com/Dodgeball I was speaking to someone the other day who seemed to be pretty down on the young people of today. Granted, he works in a field where he interacts with young folks entering the work force and I'm sure he experiences the worst in people from time to time. However, as I heard him make a few comments that seemed to be down on younger people, I couldn't help but think about all the things I've witnessed this summer. May ended with watching several kids graduate who already had in their minds what they wanted to spend the rest of their lives doing. Some heading to college while others going straight into the work force. I've watched the commitment over the past few years of those who have chosen both of those paths and been impressed. Mike and Ken are in their third season of a trilogy of seasons, this season is focused on us in Christ. In this episode, they look at us in Christ verses from 2 Corinthians. In them, we discover that in Christ we are triumphant, spread the knowledge of Jesus everywhere, are sent from Jesus, speak in sincerity and boldness as ministers of a new covenant before God, and there's no veil between us and God. Ken and Mike discuss what we learn from these verses and how we can apply what we learn to our lives. A listener wants to know what are some summer activities the guys enjoy. Also, what aromas would someone want to or not want to smell? And it wasn't enough to build a full-size replica of the Ark in Kentucky; so they went and set a world record. All proceeds benefit St. Jude Research Hospital. Festivities will begin at 10 AM. More info at BenandTravis.com/Dodgeball The first half of my summer has been pretty! So I took a little break from the Friday Refresh for a couple of weeks. I got to hang out a day or two with some spiritual heroes of mine, Halo and Rhonda Fernandez as my family helped them prepare for a VBS in Munford Alabama. Then Travis and I spent a little time in Lexington, Kentucky with the North Lexington Church of Christ for a mental health workshop. After being home a few short days I took off with a few members of my family and we road tripped from North Alabama to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We went about four days on the beautiful Mackinac Island for my daughter's Senior Trip and then saw some waterfalls and NFL football stadiums on the way home. After barely resting we spent the week in one of my favorites places on earth — Maywood Christian Camp. Such great memories from over 30 straight years of spending a week of my summer there. Brandon Zech and Jessica Fuentes talk about artistic legacies, including Damien Hirst's posthumous paintings, artists who have launched work into space, and artist foundations. “A lot of artists consider what happens with their body of work — with this momentum they've created during their lifetime — after their death. But, historically, people haven't thought about the continuation of art making after their death. They've thought about how their artwork gets cared for in their absence, not how can they continue to have artwork.” This week's podcast is sponsored in part by The National Juneteenth Museum's upcoming inaugural Juneteenth Festival, Freedom Vibes.
