For my final episode of the year, Emily of The Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast, along with Ben & Bryon of Twin Peaks Unwrapped, Mya McBriar, Anita Rehn, AM of 1400 River Road, Pamela Tarajcak of Between Two Worlds, Adam Stewart of the Diane Podcast, Scott Ryan of The Blue Rose Magazine and Kaity McAllister all join in to honor those who we lost throughout 2022. We lost so many wonderful and talented people this year, many of which just in December no less and I am proud of what everyone has put in. Many of these are extraordinarily moving and shows that now matter how many or few episodes they were all a part of, they each found ways to bring something truly special to Twin Peaks one way or another. This is my last episode of the year and also will be taking a break for a couple months from releasing episodes. Looking forward to when I can return and start up in 2023. Until then, hope you all have a wonderful new year. We're talking about Books That Make You remember Moonlighting. Ground-breaking shows like Moonlighting paved the way for yet more ground-breaking TV. For fans in the 80s, this show was a must watch. It featured the iconic Cybil Shepherd opposite a very young Bruce Willis in, yes, the pre-Die Hard show that catapulted his career. The writers, producers, showrunners and everyone involved produced the show despite a number of odds. Our guest today is our friend Scott Ryan, author of the book Moonlighting: An Oral History. A TV historian and pop culture expert, he is also a publisher and a writer. His books include thirtysomething at thirty: an oral history, The Last Days of Letterman, as well as Moonlighting: An Oral History. He is co-publisher at Fayetteville Mafia Press, as well as the managing editor The Blue Rose Magazine, the director of A Voyage to Twin Peaks and the host of The Red Room Podcast. We’re talking about Books That Make You Step Back in Time If you’ve seen WandaVision, you understand the nostalgia we feel when watching favorite classic television. We love characters from the olden days of TV. They were great friends, and fixtures in our living rooms. And we love getting the true stories behind those shows. Author Scott Ryan is wickedly adept at getting people to open up to him, which makes him a great historian and storyteller. He is an author of the books thirtysomething at thirty: an oral history, The Last Days of Letterman, and of the forthcoming Moonlighting: An Oral History. He is also the co-publisher at Fayetteville Mafia Press and the managing editor of The Blue Rose Magazine, the director of A Voyage to Twin Peaks and the host of The Red Room Podcast. Ryan was also in the 1988 homemade VHS-classic: Spooflighting, where he played David Addison. Additionally, he wrote about his own bad luck in the short comic series, Scott Luck Stories. Twin Peaks deep dive, my first of three this week and many more in future I'm sure. The Twin Peaks community is unlike any other. The fans and stars are often great friends and collaborators. Wrapped in Plastic was the first of its kind in 1992, a dedicated fan made magazine that ran for 13 years, founded by John Thorne (this weekend) and Craig Miller. There was nothing like this, and it's hugely influential. 25 years later, when season three was announced, Scott Ryan took up this huge responsibility, and founded Blue Rose Magazine. Scott and I met at the premiere of season three in 2017, and I've followed all of his work since. He's become a huge proponent of one of the most important elements of my life. We speak of how beautiful the Summer of 2017 was, during the airing of Twin Peaks: The Return, and all of Scott's output since, which is vast. Find everything on: https://www.bluerosemag.com We'll have him back in the Fall to talk about Courtney Stallings' new Laura Palmer book that is very close to my heart. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/teawithsg/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/teawithsg/support
