In many companies, the CFO is more important than the CEO. And the majority of private equity-backed CFOs are actually not up to par. In this episode, CJ is joined by Scott Engler, of LinkedIn fame, to explain why he believes these bold statements to be true. Scott is the CEO and co-founder of Sync Executive Partners and the co-founder of PE-Xcelerate. He has decades of experience studying, recruiting, and coaching CFOs. He shares insights on the evolving role of the CFO, the many hats they wear, and which they should prioritise. He gives advice on how to navigate your relationship with your CEO, your PE sponsor, and other stakeholders, and provides some social profiling hacks that can help. The conversation covers the benefits of upside-down reviews and why not having a recommendation can be the smartest move, before examining the best way to get a CFO job at a PE-backed company, and how to negotiate equity packages.—LINKS:Scott Engler on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottengler/Sync Executive Partners: https://www.syncexecutivepartners.com/PE-Xcelerate: https://www.pexcelerate.com/CJ on X (@cjgustafson222): https://x.com/cjgustafson222Mostly metrics: http://mostlymetrics.comLooking for Leverage: RELATED EPISODES:So You're Looking for a “Strategic” CFO? Director Alan G. Parker's newest film is a personal expression of gratitude toward John Lennon for being a figure that helped him through some difficult years when he was growing up. Borrowed Time: Lennon's Last Decade includes interviews with dozens of figures who knew him; everyone from Aunt Mimi (archival footage) to journalists like Ray Connolly, Chris Charlesworth, and Anthony DeCurtis, plus writers like Philip Norman and Ken Womack and other figures of influence, like Tariq Ali. The result is an impressionistic portrait of John's post-Beatles years, tapping the creativity that comes from working without official sanction. Parker's other work includes 2017's It Was Fifty Years Ago Today on Sgt. Pepper, plus other films and books covering punk acts including The Clash and the Sex Pistols.
SLU head men's basketball coach Josh Schertz joins Amy and Chris after a summer open practice this week and to preview the 'Billikens of the Last Decade' event tomorrow night at Schlafley. 'You're recruiting people first, players second,' says Schertz. He says there is a lot of juggling now with the transfer portal and payment to players.

Podcast 288 – Smart Branding and Apartment Density Transformed Chamblee Over the Last Decade – Van Pappas Chamblee has rebranded, reimagined, and revitalized itself. Van Pappas shares how smart city planning and a bold branding push turned an industrial corridor into one of North DeKalb's hottest areas. The key? Apartment density, a clear identity, and big community pride. Van was there from the start, on the branding committee that helped bring the iconic red Chamblee sign to Peachtree Boulevard. He explains how signage isn't just decoration, it is declaration. Van also dives into starting his Chamblee Area Restaurant Review Facebook Group during Covid, and growing it nearly as large as my Dunwoody version. What began as a way to support struggling restaurants became a digital town square, where locals post reviews and swap recommendations. The Chamblee Rail Trail is more than a sidewalk. Van breaks down how the trail is expanding to connect key parts of the city and tie into a larger regional network. With plans to link Chamblee to Doraville's Assembly development, Brookhaven's greenways, and eventually the BeltLine, the trail is redefining how locals experience the city, without ever getting in a car. It is a privilege to welcome six-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker Alan G. Parker to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Before becoming a filmmaker, Alan worked as a press officer via Judy Totton Publicity and later in EMI's catalogue department in London. At EMI, he worked with bands such as Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, and the Stranglers. He also wrote for magazines and published books about the Clash and Sid Vicious. In 2009, Alan directed Who Killed Nancy? And Monty Python: Almost the Truth – The Lawyers' Cut was nominated for six Emmy Awards. In 2017, he directed the documentary It was Fifty Years Ago Today! The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper & Beyond! Alan G. Parker's latest documentary, Borrowed Time: Lennon's Last Decade, focuses on music legend John Lennon's final years. The film follows the former Beatle as he navigates through the band's breakup while creating revolutionary music and standing at the forefront of anti-war protests that would make him one of the most influential pop culture icons of all-time. Hear musicians, journalists, and the man's close friends set the record straight on the truth behind many famous Lennon moments brought to life by rare archive footage, including never-before-seen interviews. For the first time, the full story of how John and Yoko met is revealed, and watch as the curtain is lifted on the 1981 comeback tour that never came to be. This monumental film is a must-see for Lennon, Beatles, and music fans. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Alan G. Parker took us behind the scenes about Borrowed Time's filmmaking process, including the insights he found from the documentary interview subjects who had interacted with John during that time. Borrowed Time: Lennon's Last Decade will be released in theatres on May 2, 2025. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

It's April 1st, and I was told to expect some company on this evening's show, so I made some room for Lauren, my mother, and Aurora, but was pleasantly surprised to have Cousin Sheri, and Anthony, show up as well. We fill the time discussing things that have gradually disappeared over the last ten years without people really noticing. The calls flow in, and the rest takes care of itself—we even dig through some family footage. Tomorrow night is a day off, and then we're right back to the heavy-lifting on Thursday evening, with two more great guests. They discuss the origins of the #exvangelical hashtag, coined by Blake, and its role in giving voice to those disillusioned with evangelical institutions. Together, they examine the reasons people have left — from issues like sexism and racism to political conservatism — and how these individuals have found solidarity and community in the exvangelical movement. Blake also shares insights from his new book, Exvangelical and Beyond, where he delves into the enduring impact of this movement and what it means for the future. This episode offers a thought-provoking look at how former evangelicals are reclaiming their stories and challenging powerful institutions in meaningful ways.
