Welcome to The Nostalgia Test Podcast! The show where two long-time friends put their mainstream pop-culture past to the ultimate test-- THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
The Nostalgia Test Podcast is an absolute gem in the world of podcasts. From the very first episode, I was hooked and couldn't stop listening. The hosts, Dan and Manny, have a natural chemistry that shines through their banter and keeps me entertained throughout each episode. Their humor is infectious and had me laughing out loud, often to the point where my coworkers would give me odd looks at work. The tangents they go on are hilarious and add an extra layer of enjoyment to the show.
What sets this podcast apart is its ability to dive deep into various topics of nostalgia. From movies to cereal to TV shows, Dan and Manny cover it all with passion and knowledge. They do their research and bring interesting facts to the table that I never knew existed. It's like taking a trip down memory lane with two friends who are just as enthusiastic about reliving those nostalgic moments as you are.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is how well-balanced it is between silliness and opinionated discussions. Dan and Manny aren't afraid to be silly and let loose, but they also offer insightful opinions on the topics they cover. Their discussions feel genuine and relatable, making it easy for listeners to connect with them on a personal level.
If there's one "downside" to this podcast, it's that I always find myself wanting more after each episode ends. The episodes fly by because they're so entertaining, but I'm left craving more by the time they conclude. However, this "issue" really speaks to the quality of the show because it means that I'm fully engrossed in what Dan and Manny have to say.
In conclusion, The Nostalgia Test Podcast is an absolute must-listen for anyone who loves nostalgia, pop culture, or just wants a good laugh. Dan and Manny bring a unique charm to each episode that keeps listeners engaged from start to finish. Their passion for the topics they cover is evident, and their humor and wit make for an incredibly enjoyable experience. This podcast deserves all the praise it gets, and I can't wait to see what other aspects of our childhood Dan and Manny dive into next.
Dan, Manny, & Billy put the 1993 action/drama Free Willy to the ultimate test--THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “[They abused a whale] to make a movie about whale awareness [...] You fucking basically murdered [a whale] in the making of [Free Willy].” -Billy Okay everyone, this was a weird journey back for us because no one knew what to expect from Free Willy. We didn't remember it was two hours long. We didn't remember about Jesse's friend Perry. We sure didn't remember Mykelti Williamson being saddled with another clueless white person? And that's just the tip of this nostalgic iceberg because we go on a Metalocalypse tangent, how Orcas were attacking sailboats, adopting a manatee in elementary school, and we expose the unfortunate story behind Kiko, the Orca in Free Willy. Dan, Manny, & Billy are joined by their longtime friends Jeremy & Mike to talk about a whole bunch of craziness to put to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “Hellraiser, I think is the most overrated horror franchise of all time.” -Dan Dan, Manny, & Billy pulled this Nostalgia Test News/Audience Suggestions/Friend Hangout out of left field! They're surprised by their longtime friends Jeremy (from Mrs. Doubtfire, the Metallica episodes, and the 2024 Hangout) & Mike (from the Iron Eagle episode). This dives into SNL funny or not, Reboots (again), Hockey and can Dan find a skate for a size 14 shoe, 100 men vs 1 gorilla, and insane drinking stories. The conversation goes even further back into memories of playing manhunt and if that game can be played today, a cool idea for a horror movie, stories from summertime at the public pool, diners, drinking Black Haus and After Shock, and so much more. Dan & Manny welcome Jen & P.T. from The Long Take Review to put Jim Henson's classic Labyrinth to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “We might spend the most time on fart jokes.” -P.T. Much like the topic of this episode, the conversation is a collection of twists, turns, deceptions, off-color fart jokes, confusion about David Bowie's tights, and hallucinations. The gang goes into their love of Henson's use practical effects, they talk about all the memorable characters, the film's lasting impact on cinematic history, and did we say fart jokes. They also touch on the announcement of a sequel directed by Robert Eggers, is Gremlins 2 better than the OG, the influence of David Bowie's performance, and the broader legacy of Jim Henson's creations like The Dark Crystal. WARNING: The conversation on this episode will go into some of the disturbing physical & sexual violence that is both in the book version of American Psycho and the movie. Dan & Manny welcome back their longtime friend and Nostalgia Test Podcast all-star Billy D'Elia to put the 2000 satirical horror thriller to the ultimate test--THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “The nail gun is the craziest thing, because like, it's so big, and I'm like, is he really gonna do this?” -Manny Coelho Nostalgia Testers, this is one of those episodes! As Samuel L. Jackson famously said in Jurassic Park, "Hold onto your butts." We go DEEP into our memories of first seeing American Psycho and Billy shares a hilarious story about seeing it in the movie theater. We get into our favorite lines, the amazing soundtrack, and how Christian Bale's music monologues are some of the most amazing parts of the movie. We debate whether this is all in Patrick Bateman's head, what does Tom Cruise have to do with Patrick Bateman, 80s yuppie culture, and Dan talks about how Christian Bale was robbed of an Oscar in 2021. Let's understand something, there shouldn't be a remake or reboot, or reimagining of American Psycho. #NotMyBateman Email us (thenostalgiatest@gmail.com) your thoughts and opinions on American Psycho and what you think of the possible remake, and we'll talk about them on a future episode. Dan & Manny go deep into the July Nostalgic News to see if it passes the ultimate test--THE NOSTALGIA TEST! July was a very eventful month in the Nostalgia community. Dan & Manny start with sad news, the recent passing of beloved pop-culture icons Shannon Doherty, Richard Simmons, Bob Newhart, and Dr. Ruth.
