With a last-second shot from the star shooter, the underdog team defeats its powerhouse opponent, becoming the smallest school ever to win the state basketball championship. Sound like the ending of “Hoosiers”? It should, because it's what happened in the true story that inspired the beloved film. Referred to as the Milan Miracle, in 1954 the Milan High School Indians defeated the Muncie Central Bearcats in front of an audience of 15,000 at Butler Fieldhouse. And on March 23, 2024, we were there at Milan High School, along with close to 2000 others, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of that feat. In this fun ‘Varie-tea' episode we take you along on our field trip, giving you the flavor of the event and its featured guests, including “Hoosier's” screenwriter Angelo Pizzo and actors Brad Long and Steve Hollar, the current and former Indiana governor, and the miracle workers themselves. If you're a fan of basketball, “Hoosiers,” or an inspirational sports story, this is one you won't want to miss. Link is in bio! What strategies were used to help the young basketball players bond, and what hijinks did they get up to when not filming? On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. and he gives a report on the inshore fishing before Ian started blowing. It sounds epic and I am noticing a trend about the fishing before these named storms. From now until the end of November the fishing will be fantastic, just be sure to avoid fishing during cold fronts and tropical weather events but the fishing before and after can be off the charts! Expect normal fall patterns otherwise, the fishing should be great!

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He gives us an update on the fishing in the Destin area and it sounds like the Fall fishing is underway. With Red Snapper getting a fall season and the pelagic species a little closer to shore it should make for some great opportunities. Capt Lionel also tells us about the redfish and their feeding habits as it relates to the moon phases, it sounds like something worth paying attention to. The fishing is good and getting better as long as there aren't any significant weather events in the area, the Fall bite is underway in Destin.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. He tells us about the epic fall fishing that is happening in the area. The fall bait run is in full effect and the fish are responding. Jordan also explains why the fishing is so good just before and just after hurricanes that enter into the Gulf of Mexico. We hear about a Colorado Elk trip as well & some of the near misses from the trip. If you're a hunter, you'll definitely want to listen until the end.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. and he tells us about the incredible Fall fishing opportunities that exist in the Pensacola area. This fall fishery will remain intact, barring recovery time from weather events, through Jan & Feb. Be sure to follow AnglerUp with Brant on YouTube and Facebook to stay up to date with the fishery in P'cola, he will be fishing year round in the area.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. He gives us a great inshore and nearshore report. It sounds like the water quality has vastly improved since our last conversation and the sight fishing opportunities are abundant both along the beach & on the flats. The bait is back and everything is behaving like they should in a fall pattern. The good news, it should remain this way, barring a named storm or cold front, for the next several months!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He gives us an update on the surf fishing. It sounds like the fish are there but so is the June grass. Its not there every day, but be sure to have proper intel before heading to the surf right now. Inshore, it sounds like as the cooler weather approaches things are going to keep getting better and all of the normal redfish spots are producing as expected. Once we have another cold snap or two, we should start seeing massive schools of redfish, so be on the lookout!
On today's episode we talk with Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He gives us an update on the fishing in Pensacola. It sounds like it has suffered from the recent rains in the area and just North. Brant said that the water is dirty inshore & on the beach. We also talk about a trip to Tampa Brant took and hear about the fishing there. We also get an update on what he and the guys from Salt Strong are up too.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about fly fishing for Amberjack & snapper on the nearshore reefs. It sounds like it is an awesome way to chase these fish that we usually target by dropping baits. Lionel likes to live chum them up to the surface where you can see them and cast to specific fish and add a sight fishing element to the fun. This presents a whole new challenge to fly anglers and I am a big fan of the idea, definitely on my short list of things to do on the water.

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about a recent trip he took to Destin and the surf fishing he was able to get into while there. We also hear a story about monster bluefish & permit in the Destin Harbor? We also take a few minutes to get an update on the Pensacola area & Brant gives us an update on the water quality in both locations. It sounds like it has cleaned up and the fishing is phenomenal LL long the Panhandle!
On today's episode we talk with Capt Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL & he tells us that right now, the fishing just isn't that great. Not what we want to hear but sometimes the factors just don't come together in a way that fires the fish up. In fact, sometimes it does quite the opposite. The good news is that the Gulf changes constantly & with the change in seasons slowly beginning, I think there are some really good days on the water ahead.
On this weeks episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. He gives an update on the shrimp hatch happening in the Apalachicola area. Since Scallop season has St Joe Bay pretty crowded, Jordan choses to fish in the Indian Pass & Apalachicola area this time of year. It also doesn't hurt that the Fall shrimp hatch is underway. We also talk to Jordan about a recent trip he took to Venice, LA to chase bull reds and monster triple tail. He tells us the strategy they used to find the fish and explained how that part of LA fishes a lot like his home water.
On this weeks episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. We get an update on the surf fishing, they might be a little more shallow than you suspect & we get an update on the inshore and offshore fishery around Pensacola as well. Brant also tells us about an experience he had recently that answers the question: "Can you keep an illegal fish if it is going to die/is already dead when you catch it." This is an unfortunate reality to our sport, sometimes fish that are out of season or over/under sized don't make it. Or are in bad enough shape that when you release them, you know that you are just feeding all of the lazy predators on the reef. So as any good steward of the environment might wonder, why can't you just keep those fish? Brant talks to the FWC and gets an answer.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He says that the June grass from the last few weeks is gone! We assume that whatever currents pushed it out also brought in beautiful, clear water and really got the bite going. Pompano and whiting are eating sand fleas & the Spanish, bluefish, ladyfish, redfish, sharks and jacks are all along the beach feeding on blood minnows and other bait schools. It has turned on in a big way along the beach so grab your surf gear & sand flea rake and get after it if your heading to Pensacola this week!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. He tells us about everything inshore feeding on schools of blood or red minnows. Look for action up top or diving birds and that will let you know where to start. Justin also tells us about the Fall bait migration that happens and kicks off spectacular Fall fishing. The good news is that we think the bait migration has started but now the predator fish we want to catch just have to find them. During this transition time there are some great opportunities and it will only get better as water temperatures cool down.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about the Fall Pompano run that seems to have started along the beach. There are also tons of ladyfish, bluefish & Spanish there as well so if you just want to catch something, the beaches are hard to beat right now. There are also an abundance of Mangrove Snapper being caught on inshore structure and the really big ones hold on offshore structure. The offshore and nearshore bite has been strong as well. Triggerfish are in season and this time of year you might also find a King Mackerel patrolling the wrecks. It is a great time of year to fish the Pensacola area!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. He tells us about the inshore fishing and it sounds like that is the place to be in PSJ or Apalach right now. Recent wet weather has cooled the water temp down a little and the fish are responding. We also talk about the Tripletail spawn and Jordan explains when & where that takes place.
On today's show we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about catching triggerfish on the near shore reefs & mangrove snapper on inshore structure. The tricky part about catching keeper triggerfish is that there are so many of them and the smaller ones are more aggressive. It sounds like the nearshore and jetty fishing is a great way to fill your freezer right now with two of the best tasting fish that we have in the Gulf!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore our of Panama City Beach, FL. We talk about the weather events leading up to what we consider the end of the tarpon migration for the Panhandle. We also talk about how the wet and cooler weather will affect the fishing both inshore & nearshore in the PCB area. We are entering into the Fall pattern even though there are still some warm days ahead and the water temperature should be cooler making for some great fishing opportunities in the coming months!
On today's show we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL He tells us about the success he and his clients have had recently fishing inshore. We also talk about a monster triple tail his client caught & get a quick update on the tarpon migration. Jordan tells us about fishing Indian Pass and Apalach during the shrimp hatch that happens late summer & early fall. It sounds like an exciting time for fishing inshore that will only get better.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about fishing the beaches for redfish and an awesome nearshore bite with Mangrove Snapper & Triggerfish. Lionel also tells us about a his recent trip through the state of FL. He was able to fish some freshwater South of Orlando & south of Naples in the Everglades. He finished the trip off in Key West and was able to fish for several days. As always it was great catching up with Capt. Lionel and it sounds like the fishing is strong around Destin right now, so get out there early to beat the heat!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. We get an update on surf fishing from the beach, and discuss the alternative options available in the area. We also talk about catching bull reds and big jacks feeding on blood minnows that are flushing out of the creeks and bayous this time of year.
On today's show we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. & we get a full fishing report on the PCB area. We talk about the inshore bite, the offshore & nearshore bite as well as the tarpon migration. It sounds like everything is still fishing well. The snapper bite became harder to get as to be expected late in the season and the heat makes inshore fishing difficult any time other than first light or sunset. Justin explains what to expect as we begin the slow transition into fall and cooler temperatures. Pay attention, because there is some great advice regarding how to change your approach when the surface temp begins to cool overnight.
On today's show we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. We talk about the fishing around St Joe Bay as well as nearshore & offshore. Sounds like inshore is tough in St Joe Bay but the bite on the beaches and nearshore is still going strong. Jordan also tells us about the first shrimp hatch of the year around Apalachicola & a trip where they caught some monster triple tail around Indian Pass. It sounds like things have moved into the typical late summer patterns & there are certainly fish to be caught!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about the rain that has moved through the area in recent weeks and has made for significant challenges if you're fishing inshore. Not only the water clarity and temperature are effected but most importantly the salinity. When the salinity drops quickly the fish shut down and usually find cleaner, saltier water. That being said, anything on the gulf side is your best bet and with the area's multiple piers and beach access' you should still be able to wet a line if your land locked. Boats should plan to head out to chase the cobia and king's that are prevalent on offshore & nearshore wrecks right now.
Brad Long, Executive Director of the Veterans Housing Development Corporation (VHDC) joins us to talk about affordable housing for veterans. Different veterans have different needs, and some just need a little extra boost to be able to own a home, and ultimately pay less or the same as what they were paying for substandard rentals. Listen for more details about how veterans are finding affordable homes in California!
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. and we finish our conversation from last week about live chumming for King's. In part 2, we talk about the other fish that come up in the live chum slick along with Kingfish. Inshore, it sounds like the wet weather that moved through the area last week and the summer pop up thunderstorms helped to get the bite fired up. Those showers cool the water temp down quickly and create oxygen in the water. Sometimes the fish respond well to little those rain events, so don't let a little rain send you to the dock, sometimes that's what they are waiting for.
On today's show we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about a fantastic bite offshore. There's no shortage of Red Snapper but you might also find Mahi oriented to floating structure or the occasional King Mackerel. There is plenty of action to be had this time of year. The late summer patterns are just getting going & it is a great time to head out. Like Brant mentioned, surf fishing is really tough right now so one of the most effective ways to get on the fish if you don't have boat access, is to take advantage of one of the local piers or hire a local charter captain to head offshore. Either way, there's a lot of fish to target right now!
On today's show we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. We get an update on the Destin fishery, specifically the tarpon run & the offshore bite. It sounds like the silver Kings are still moving through the area in good numbers. The off shore bite has been solid as to be expected & snapper are being caught in good numbers. The big question remains, how will the rain moving across the coast this week affect the fishery and the tarpon migration?
On this weeks episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. and he tells us about a method of targeting king mackerel that sounds like a blast! We also talk about the affect the influx of rain is going to have on the Tarpon migration and the fishing in the area. Jordan makes some sense of some of the regulatory decisions of the past and some of the improvements they've made to make more accurate regulations for the Gulf of Mexico's Red Snapper fishery.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. We talk about fishing the sound for trout and redfish. We also talk about what to expect with the rain that is moving through this week. Brant gives a look ahead of what he suspects will happen next. Blood minnows & Menhaden both transition out of the Bayou's. This event causes an all species feeding frenzy, it should begin happening in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for birds or surface action.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. and we talk about the insanity of this years tarpon migration. Justin & his clients have been having a ball chasing and catching silver kings around PCB this year. Justin shares some techniques for boat positioning and trying not to get too close to the fish. It sounds like everything has come together so far this year and the tarpon numbers reflect that.
On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. We talk about the tarpon migration, the inshore bite in St Joe Bay & Apalach and everything from feeding tarpon to shark attacks. Be sure to subscribe and tell a friend!
On today's show we talk with Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about an epic weekend Tarpon fishing at the Okaloosa Island Pier. We talk about why they might've been in that area in such great numbers & Brant tells us about his bait of choice. We also get a quick refresher on the "rules of the road" for Tarpon fishing on the pier. I love episodes like this because anyone can go to a local pier and have access to a great migratory tarpon fishery, you don't need a boat or much of anything other than a capable rod & reel. Check out previous podcast episodes for suggestions on the preferred tarpon setup.

On today's episode we talk with Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about a recent trip he took to NYC for a showing of a short film series he was a part of for Xtratuf and we learn a little about the process and purpose behind the project. We also get an update on the tarpon migration through the Destin area. Sounds like they are moving in full force as we get close to the peak of the season. It is a great time to look for them around Destin not only because of the gin clear water but tarpon don't seem to mind when it gets hot. In fact they seem to enjoy it, the hotter and calmer the water, the better. Thats when you will see them roll on the surface too, to supplement the low oxygen levels found in warm, calm water. Or maybe they're just happier when it's still and quiet, either way, this is the time to look for them around Destin!
