Tristan Cole is an award-winning singer-songwriter, model, actor, and dancer whose genre of music includes Country, Pop and R&B. We had a great talk about live performances versus video performances and how getting back out on the road is letting Tristan connect with his fans again on a personal level. He shares his thoughts on the current Pop/RnB genres of music and why he is so happy writing and performing country songs that trace back to his roots in North Carolina. Tristan has definitely had his share of ups and downs in the music business and it's great to hear how he is excited again with sharing his music with us. Make sure to connect with him on social media and I can attest he is responsive with his fans.ABOUT Tristan ColeAs a youth, Tristan Cole gained the attention of both Lou Pearlman, CEO of Transcontinental Records, (responsible for signing NSync, Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears) and Christian “Dio” Diodatti, CEO of Caliber Records (responsible for remixes for Michael Jackson and Mary J. Blige among others). Through business relationships with these music moguls he was able to meet and work with people like Andrea Martin (song writer/voice coach whose credits include Whitney Houston and Mariah Cary), and Glenn Douglas Packard (choreographer for artists like Britney Spears). In 2016, Tristan was featured on the hit single “Fun” on Jam Artis' (Bruno Mars' bass player) solo album which was given major praise by Bass Magazine, Bruno Mars, and Randy Jackson. DJ Iron Mic, known to some as Charles Morse, has touched just about every aspect of the hip-hop scene in the Raleigh/Durham area in the last few years. Morse, who grew up in the Bronx, was introduced to NC when he entered the military and was stationed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville. When he returned to civilian life, he chose to finish his undergraduate degree at NC State, where he quickly took advantage of campus resources, like the student radio station, WKNC. Having already been a DJ in New York, he settled comfortably into hosting a radio show every Sunday, eventually convincing the station to send him to cover South by Southwest. In recent years, his involvements have only deepened: Morse is the DJ and a resident member of the Krawz Bonze collective — most recently responsible for the Jooselord Magnus double album, S.K.U.L.L, that Alex Yllanes reviewed on Super Empty a couple weeks ago; he is a photographer at concerts and other events; and he covers music in the pages of Indy Week as a much-needed hip-hop writer. We did a lil' interview about his past few years here, the Carolina Music Awards, and even made time for some gripes about KRS-One. Then Charles was kind enough to stick around and talk about the NC Hip-Hop Festival, a mysterious event just around the corner, as well as the new song and video, “Bubblin',” by Anderson .Paak. Guests: Country Music Writer Ben Krahne, Country Recording Artist Madonna Nash, and country recording artist Skyler. Ben Krahne started writing music later in life around 26, he was living in Lake Tahoe at the time and met a guy named Tim Tierney. He seemed to capture a audience with just a guitar and vocals. they became friends and Ben started playing guitar, Ben has been hooked ever since. After a few years up there, Ben returned back to the bay area and continued playing music, but really dove into music after moving again to Marin County where he lived in small place and studied music, pretty much lived and breathed it. After putting out a couple cds, Ben decided just to concentrate on writing and pitch to publishers. Madonna Nash, winner of the 2010 Female Country Artist of the Year at the Carolina Music Awards, has been singing for as long as she can remember. Nash comes from a very musical family. Her father toured the country playing guitar, and her mother was an honors graduate in music from East Carolina University. Nash's great great uncle was Connie B. Gay, founding president of the Country Music Association (CMA). Third grade. Recess. As most kids wait anxiously for their turn on the slide, ride on the zip line, or shot at the four square court, another group forms around a solitary raised platform. At any other time of day, this spot would be unremarkable. But after lunch, at this elementary school, it is transformed into a stage… where Skyler would perform. And from nearby this makeshift venue, educators can witness a mini “Hard Day's Night” moment. From these unusual beginnings, it should be no surprise that by 6th grade, Skyler was a multi-instrumentalist; by 7th grade, he was sleeping on the couch, so as not disturb the sanctity of the recording studio that his bedroom had become; or that by 9th grade, he had released his first full-length, all original CD
