Die neuen Alben der Architects und Spiritbox konnten die Erwartungen bestätigen und auch die Veteranen des Genres, Killswitch Engage, haben keinerlei Daseinsberechtigung eingebüßt. Doch auch Ghost, die ihre neue Ära mit “Satanized” eingeläutet haben, werden von unseren Hosts Maik und Linn in höchsten Tönen gelobt, dafür aber schmerzlich bei Rock am Ring und Rock im Park vermisst. Die haben ihr Lineup nun (fast) vollständig, was die Jungs zu einem kleinen Resümee verleitet. Außerdem widmen sich die beiden dem Thema “Re-Releases” und klären, was die vielen Begriffe wie “Re-Recording”, “Remaster”, “Remix” und so weiter eigentlich bedeuten – und wer den ganzen Kram überhaupt wirklich braucht. The Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame is a multi-room museum of autographed albums, guitars, and so much more. Brandon Valentine, Executive Director and Founder of the Central Pa Music Hall of Fame, opened the museum in 2023. “You’ll see the plaques on the walls with pictures of the artists, you know, their summaries of their accomplishments, their resumes, if you will, of the members who are currently in the Hall of Fame, of which there are 35 members already in the Hall of Fame from 2019 to current voted in. And then, you know, in the other rooms, there's a lot of autographed guitars…We have guitars from Bret Michaels from Mechanicsburg, as well as Taylor Swift from Wyomissing here.” There are a few things that go into consideration when an artist is nominated into a class hall of fame. The class is measured by album sales, Grammy nominations, and gold/ platinum records. “There's a couple of big names from our area, you know, who have already been inducted. Bret Michaels live, your hailstorm breaking, Benjamin and so forth. This year, we're inducting Grammy nominees, August Burns Red from the Lancaster area. So, a lot of those, you know, have accomplished big things in the more recent past, and done large tours. But then you look, and you look at some of the other acts. For example, Pentagon, you know, they did a lot of original. Music at the start of their career, they toured all over. Did a lot of the casino scenes and were kind of a regional band, you know, up and down the East Coast. But they've been around for over 50 years, so a lot of different factors go into play. But ultimately, we're trying to recognize the best of the best from all time in our area. On episode one hundred and nineteen of Holy Ghost Notes, Matt and Tim chuckle about a funny moment Matt had with a friend/drum student and Matt inadvertently tees up one of their topics by talking about enjoying some time with his wife instead of focusing on some important tasks. Matt talks a little about the Emo's Not Dead cruise that August Burns Red is about to embark on, then transitions into the drum topic about playing drums for yourself first, before playing for anyone else's approval. Tim chimes in with a recent thought about what “the dream” is for himself as an artist/musician in 2024. Then, Tim gets deep and talks about an idea that someone in distress only needs 8 minutes of undivided attention from a friend to feel a little better. Tim opens up about a difficult situation he's been struggling with and Matt lends some great perspective.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Silent Planet over Zoom video!Every once in a while, wildflowers will sprout en masse in the middle of the California desert. Known as a “SUPERBLOOM,”this phenomenon paints lush colors across a traditionally arid and barren landscape. The emergence and evolution of Silent Planet mirrors this phenomenon. Since 2009, the California quartet—Garrett Russell [vocals, guitar], Mitchell Stark [guitar], Alex Camerena [drums], and Nick Pocock [bass]—have set themselves apart in the realm of heavy music. Amplifying hypnotic hooks across alternately raw and rich soundscapes steeped in hardcore, post-rock, metal, and ambient textures, the award-winning group has generated tens of millions of streams and earned tastemaker praise. Now, the musicians tell a story as massive as their sound on their aptly titled fifth full-length offering, SUPERBLOOM [Solid State Records].Silent Planet has consistently transfixed a diehard fanbase. The group dropped a string of acclaimed albums, including The Night God Slept [2014], Everything Was Sound [2016], When The End Began [2018], and Iridescent [2021]—which Hysteria hailed as “a vulnerable and emotional LP.” Not to mention, album standout “Trilogy” generated 5.3 million Spotify streams to sit alongside their genre-bending triumph “Panic Room” from the 2016 release, currently at 5 million. The guys notably took home “Best Underground Band” at the 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards and toured with the likes of Motionless In White, August Burns Red, Beartooth, and The Contortionist.Over the course of two years, they recorded what would become SUPERBLOOM in Woodland Hills, CA alongside longtime producer and frequent collaborator Daniel Braunstein. A jarring turn of events split the process into two seasons. Trekking through a Wyoming snowstorm in November 2022, Silent Planet survived a vehicle accident. The van flipped over, leaving the group laying in the wreckage of a bitter Wyoming snowstorm as Garrett was hospitalized with a fractured back and head wound requiring stitches.Along the way, they settled on a conceptual framework, expanding the scope of their vision like never before.Silent Planet initially teased the record with “:Signal:” followed by “Antimatter.” On the latter, spacey electronic transmissions buzz. Pivoting on a dime, it dissolves into a stomping industrial groove offset by synth swells.“It's the conclusion of the story we're telling,” he says. “This is the finale. There are different levels of a close encounter. It's a close encounter of the fifth kind.
