For 19 years, Dr. Andrea Martin was a professor at Worcester University in Massachusetts, where she taught many classes, including several on UFO disclosure. She began having extraterrestrial contact experiences between the ages of 2 and 3, and realized she was a walk-in from the Pleiades. Between the ages of 5-8, she was subjected to Military Abductions (MILABs) where attempts were made by the Raytheon corporation to study and weaponize her telepathic abilities. As a teenager, Dr. Martin was subjected to trauma-based mind control and memory wipes at various military facilities in Massachusetts, and also abused on antigravity military craft where she had been taken. She claims to be in telepathic contact with her extraterrestrial husband from the Pleiades, Eeka, who is part of an extraterrestrial contingent associated with the Galactic Federation of Worlds currently working with the USAF. Dr. Martin says that he meets with her by projecting his astral body to her home, as it is still unsafe for him to physically meet with her. She claims that beginning in June, human-looking extraterrestrials will begin physically meeting with starseeds who are ready, and the contact process will gradually unfold over the next year.Dr. Andrea Martin's website is: https://growingupalien.com/

Send us a textHEDWIGBefore we say auf wiedersehen to Season 14 with its eight revamps of the previously covered during the show's first five years, the boys of TGTPTU reveal their unexpected special little packages: 1x1's, wherein each host shall choose a single film by its merits of discussion and unlikelihood to be exposed on a future 4x4, creator, or thematic season. The first of these darlings is Thomas's: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (2001). Adapted from the rock musical of the same name that started as the collaboration between frontman of the NYC-based band Cheater (performing on stage as Hedwig's band) Stephen Trask and then actor later turned actor-director with this debut film John Cameron Mitchell. Hedwig's story, on stage told in song and monologue, of male-to-female surgery so as to marry an American GI and leave East Berlin originated from Mitchell's own experiences as a military brat in Germany and Kansas trailer parks while the jealousy and newer betrayal Hedwig expresses toward her protégé and superstar success/successor Tommy Gnosis (also played by Mitchell in the play but embodied by Early Aughts indie film darling and pod-contentious actor Michael Pitt) is elevated by Trask's music and lyrics and is expanded and enriched with animation, locations, and added characters (most notably Andrea Martin as the band's manager) for the silver screen. Learn more about the progression from stage to screen from Thomas on research; jam out to Rock Facts with Ryan (sorry, mineralogists, but we're talking glam and punk rock here); former host Jack on vibes in the rhythm section wakes up mid-episode to like the film and dig the hand-drawn animation; and Ken lands his rimshot, getting to tell his joke that calls back to TGTPTU's Nolan coverage (Season 12). Spoiler: You'll be hearing from four Hed heads. Reminder: You don't put a bra in a dryer! CONTENT WARNING: At least once during the episode the “f” word (“Ferengi”) is used. SNL celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025 but we didn't start watching it until the 1990s. As Canadian kids with bedtimes in the 80s, we had more exposure to SCTV, the incredible sketch comedy show that featured an outrageously talented cast from Second City. Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, John Candy and Harold Ramis and later Rick Moranis and Martin Short on one show! In this episode, we reminisce with our good friend, Marcus J, and revisit our favourite movies featuring SCTV alumni. It's a beauty, eh!
The 2018 Mary Kay Place vehicle “Diane” may be a bit of a gloomy drive around a weathered stretch of the Northeast, but luckily it includes a bevy of character actresses and Broadway legends in the passenger seat. Estelle Parsons, Andrea Martin, Joyce Van Patten, LaChanze, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Phyllis Sommerville, Dierdre O'Connell and Glynis O'Connor bring life to a movie essentially about the inevitability of death and what it takes to make peace with yourself before it's your turn. Keep the Christmas festivities going by playing this episode! If horror fandom is like a sorority, Mark and his returning guest Jeff Bugajski would be the presidents, or treasurers, or housemothers, like boozy Mrs. Mac! It's the 50th anniversary of the super creepy and super influential 1974 slasher Black Christmas, directed by Bob Clark before he directed A Christmas Story (he really knew how to make iconic holiday movies!). Although this movie might be less talked about than other horror films, Mark and Jeff agree that it's their life mission to spread the good word. Plus, they share stories about meeting Margot Kidder and Andrea Martin!

Today we say goodbye to our annual MOVIES ARE GAY theme for June and it's one of our favorite months. So eye opening. Sometimes hole opening. We're coasting out strong with our last selection and it just so happens to be (I think) our first official musical and it's one that took us by surprise waaaaay back in 2001 when we happened to lay eyes on it in our movie theaters and dorm rooms. It was intensely appreciated in its time by a small audience but John Cameron Mitchell & Stephen Trask's undeniably entertaining rock musical has proven influential and enduring. Of course we're discussing the 2001 queer cult classic “HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH” directed by John Cameron Mitchell and starring himself, Miriam Shor, Andrea Martin and Michael Pitt with music by Stephen Trask. A young boy growing up in East Berlin finds her way to America following a botched gender reassignment surgery. Hansel, now carrying her mother's name, is alone in an isolating new world. She reinvents herself through music and falls in love. Of course it doesn't work out so we come into the story of Hedwig through bitterness, salad bars and solid rock and roll jams. Will Hedwig find the fame that was stolen from her? Will she become what she was always meant to be? One way or another we all do. Shit, dawg, that's deep ((hits blunt)). We got that Criterion up at the house but here's a version we found online in Spanish: https://archive.org/details/Hedwig.And.The.Angry.InchAngeeParaZoowoman.website_201804 Don't gat mad at us if it's a dead link. I started this podcast because there was nothing out there when I was thrown into surgical menopause at the age of 39, which followed on from my cancer diagnosis aged 33.Through the episodes, I want to create more awareness, share information from our fabulous guest experts, doctors and other specialists in the cancer and menopause field. We can't believe we're finally here. Our final Mary-Kate and Ashley movie review. And just like we suspected: it's a two part episode. On May 7th, 2004 (exactly 20 years ago today), Mary-Kate and Ashley's final film together, New York Minute, was released in theaters. The movie had an impressive cast including Eugene Levy, Andy Richter, Jared Padalecki, Andrea Martin, Darrell Hammond, and the most 2004 cast member of all: Jack Osbourne. The movie follows Jane Ryan (Ashley) and her twin sister Roxy (Mary-Kate) as they venture into New York City on separate missions, bickering the entire way. Roxy is a rocker, and Ashley is a Republican, so they couldn't be more different! Chaos ensues. For today's episode, we start by remembering where we were 20 years ago when this movie came out and how we felt about it back then. We discuss what it meant for Mary-Kate and Ashley to have this kind of wide spread movie release and what we remembered about watching it for the first time. And since neither Becca nor Lani has seen this movie in the 20 years since, we talk about why we felt so nervous before pressing play. Then, we dive in deep. We get through about half of the movie in this review before going on a tangent about where New York Minute fits in the Mary-Kate and Ashley Universe, so make sure to tune in next week for part two! We hope you enjoy this beginning to the end of an era, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO NEW YORK MINUTE!You can watch the video version of this ep and get more bonus content by subscribing to our Patreon here.Find us on Social Media!Instagram: @theythoughtiwasyouTikTok: @theythoughtiwasyouBecca: @beccarothLani: @laniharmsEmail us at: theythoughtiwasyou@gmail.comSupport the Show.

“It's what I have to work with.”Adapted from the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of an East German rock star on a journey of self-discovery. Directed by and starring John Cameron Mitchell, the film premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue the 2002 Film Independent Spirit Awards Best Cinematography Nominees series with a conversation about Hedwig and the Angry Inch. With standout performances from Mitchell as well as Michael Pitt and Miriam Shore, Hedwig wrestles with difficult questions around gender that still resonate today. While our opinions differ on certain story elements, both agree the trailblazing musical remains an artful and subversive work.We discuss som musical numbers, the complex journeys of Hedwig, Yitzhak, and ‘antagonist' Tommy Gnosis, as well as supporting roles from Andrea Martin and Stephen Trask. Debates emerge around how the film brings its story to a close through dreamlike imagery. Both come to appreciate Hedwig even more through discussing its timeless message of self-acceptance.With weighty themes balanced with humor and rock, the film leaves much to contemplate. We have a great time talking about it, so check it out then tune in. This movie was unlike any other Hallmark movie. It featured smoking, rampant adultery, and sex jokes. Was this really a Hallmark mystery? That is the question we tackle in our complete review of After All These Years, released in 2013. This cray movie stars Wendie Malick, Gregory Harison, Martha Burns, and Andrea Martin. "When a woman is wrongly accused of the death of her ex-husband, she sets out to solve the murder mystery and find the real killer before the day of the funeral, when she is to be taken into custody."The Hallmark description certainly does not do this comedy that masquerades as a mystery. There is a hijynx and honest-to-goodness laughing-out-loud in this one. Follow us on social media: Instagram: @hallmarkmysteriesandmoreYoutubeOr visit our website. Host Meg Wolitzer presents stories so compelling that they were adapted for the screen. Selected Shorts and the prestigious Tribeca Festival collaborated and came up with three works that crossed the boundaries between fiction and film. An eerie game has unexpected consequences in Richard Matheson's “Button, Button,” performed by Marin Ireland. The story inspired the horror film “The Box” starring Cameron Diaz and Frank Langella. Michael Stuhlbarg gives a rousing performance of Lewis Carroll's “Jabberwocky;” and Andrea Martin reads the story that inspired the Hollywood classic All About Eve—Mary Orr's “The Wisdom of Eve.”

It's THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR and we're dropping some offbeat fare for Christmas and today's discussion is much more influential to certain films you might be more likely to watch around Halloween. “Billy” the phone creep might not be as prolific as Freddy, Jason or Michael Myers but he certainly stands out and he's very creative even if you have no idea who he is. It's a Christmastime sorority slasher classic that spawned an entire horror sub-genre. We're talking Bob Clark's “BLACK CHRISTMAS” starring Margot Kidder, Olivia Hussey, Andrea Martin and John Saxon. What's with these horrible (but great) obscene phone calls? Where are my sorority friends disappearing to? Why is my boyfriend so angry and bad at piano? These are important questions. If only someone checked the attic. Ah well. It's Billy's world and we're just yuletiding in it. Here's that AV Club Margot Kidder interview. Andrea Martin has been a force to be reckoned with in the comedy world since her professional debut as part of the Toronto cast of ‘Godspell' in 1972 and a few years later as a cast member on Canada's answer to ‘Saturday Night Live,' ‘SCTV'—both alongside Martin Short. This summer, she is reteaming with Short once more on Season 3 of ‘Only Murders in the Building,' which premieres next month on Hulu. In this episode—our final one for a while—Martin teases her role as Steve Martin's love interest and reveals there may have been a moment when she was up for the part that ultimately went to Selena Gomez. The 76-year-old actress also reflects on five decades in show business, from the ego blow of never being asked to do SNL to an update on Martin Scorsese's SCTV reunion documentary to the one big project that is still on her career bucket list. Check out my free video series about what's missing in AI and Neuroscience My guest today is Andrea Martin, who is the Research Group Leader in the department of Language and Computation in Neural Systems at the Max Plank Institute and the Donders Institute. Andrea is deeply interested in understanding how our biological brains process and represent language. To this end, she is developing a theoretical model of language. The aim of the model is to account for the properties of language, like its structure, its compositionality, its infinite expressibility, while adhering to physiological data we can measure from human brains. Her theoretical model of language, among other things, brings in the idea of low-dimensional manifolds and neural dynamics along those manifolds. We've discussed manifolds a lot on the podcast, but they are a kind of abstract structure in the space of possible neural population activity - the neural dynamics. And that manifold structure defines the range of possible trajectories, or pathways, the neural dynamics can take over time. One of Andrea's ideas is that manifolds might be a way for the brain to combine two properties of how we learn and use language. One of those properties is the statistical regularities found in language - a given word, for example, occurs more often near some words and less often near some other words. This statistical approach is the foundation of how large language models are trained. The other property is the more formal structure of language: how it's arranged and organized in such a way that gives it meaning to us. Perhaps these two properties of language can come together as a single trajectory along a neural manifold. But she has lots of ideas, and we discuss many of them. And of course we discuss large language models, and how Andrea thinks of them with respect to biological cognition. We talk about modeling in general and what models do and don't tell us, and much more. Andrea's website. Twitter: @andrea_e_martin.
