Hello Friends! Join Donna and Paula as they chat with Paige King Johnson! Be sure to check out the interview on YouTube https://youtu.be/Ds_5FDX-s7E In a quiet North Carolina town 22 miles south of Raleigh, as a young 9-year-old girl, Paige King Johnson spent her summers under the crepe myrtles imitating the styles of Loretta, Patsy, Waylon, and Merle. Having a grandpa as her biggest fan also meant receiving the gift of her first guitar – a baby Taylor - and enrolling in lessons. After her grandpa passed, the bright-eyed dreamer carried on his memory by taking her newfound discovery to local fairs, festivals, and any other stage she was allowed to stand on. As she grew older, Johnson added “opening act” to her resume, supporting chart topping artists like Scotty McCreery, Neal McCoy, Luke Pell, and James Otto. And with high school graduation came the realization that this was more than a hobby. The Angier native traded in horse pastures and back roads for the bright lights of Music City in 2015. Upon starting school at Belmont University for Music Business, Johnson honed in on the magic that had heavily influenced her as a child: the art of storytelling thru songwriting. “I started finding my own voice thru writing, becoming more confident, and owning the fact that my personal feelings and experiences were worth talking about, singing about, and putting on paper,” Johnson reflects. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/crazywomencountry/message

Derrek Phillips grew up in the bay area of San Francisco, CA, in a home filled with music of all genres. Some of his earliest memories are playing percussion on whatever pot or pan he found in the kitchen to the records of Sly and the Family Stone, Metallica, and Digital Underground. Derrek met his wife at a local bay-area high school band competition while she was playing trombone. His interest in playing all types of percussion allowed him to play in community orchestras, drum and bugle corps, including studying with the late, great, jazz drummer, Tony Williams. His love for music took him east, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies from William Patterson University in New Jersey. After years of honing his skills in and around the New York jazz scene, Derrek's dreams of continuing his professional music career led him to Nashville. He has played and toured with such acts as Bonnie Tyler, Dr. John, Alison Kraus, James Otto, Delbert McClinton, Charlie Hunter, The McCrary Sisters, and many others. A two-time Grammy winner, his percussion skills can be heard on the "Nashville" TV show, along with soundtracks by Vanessa Williams and Michael McDonald. In 2014, Derrek joined Hank Williams Jr.'s band and he currently plays and tours with country music sensation Brett Eldredge. Derrek and I sat down one sunny summer day in 2020 on the porch of Moo Country in Leiper's Fork, TN. We discussed the influence his parents had on encouraging his musical ability and how the coronavirus pandemic is impacting professional tour musicians. He's endorsed by Pearl Drums, Istanbul Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, Alclair Audio ear monitors, Drum Dots, Stack Ring Percussion, and Vater Sticks. Sit back and enjoy this episode with one of country music's most energetic and talented drummers.

Episode was conducted as the COVID-19 quarantine got underway Independent country artist Paige King Johnson moved from her native North Carolina to Nashville to pursue her songwriting and singing dreams. She has hung out at the famous Bluebird Café and has opened for chart topping artists like Scotty McCreery, Neal McCoy, Luke Pell, and James Otto. Her current single, “Water Down the Whiskey” channels the sensitivity of Kacey Musgraves while dishing out the unapologetic nerve of Miranda Lambert. Johnson's confident ownership of her craft is a direct result of the compelling female staples she grew up on — females who have at times strayed from the mainstream path to carve their own. With a heartfelt conviction to write genuine songs she can be proud of for years to come, Johnson is ready to go down any path that calls her name – as long as she can walk it in her favorite pair of boots. Paige King Johnson chats with Buddy Iahn and Matt Bailey about her career, aspirations and what she's been doing back home to pass the time during the COVID-19 quarantine. Subsequently, he wrote his first games on a Texas Instrument TI 99 4A, ATARI 512ST, and Amiga 500. Micha has been a pioneer in VoIP and launched several telecommunications services in the past decade. Open Garden is the creator of FireChat, the first off-the-grid messaging app, leveraging peer-to-peer mesh networking. ----more----INSTAGRAMOFFICIAL WEBSITE YOUTUBESPOTIFYIn a quiet North Carolina town 22 miles south of Raleigh, as a young 9-year-old girl, Paige King Johnson spent her summers under the crepe myrtles imitating the styles of Loretta, Patsy, Waylon, and Merle. As she grew older, Johnson added “opening act” to her resume, supporting chart-topping artists like Scotty McCreery, Neal McCoy, Luke Pell, and James Otto. And with high school graduation came the realization that this was more than a hobby. The Angier native traded in horse pastures and back roads for the bright lights of Music City in 2015. Upon starting school at Belmont University for Music Business, Johnson honed in on the magic that had heavily influenced her as a child: the art of storytelling through songwriting.“I started finding my own voice through writing, becoming more confident, and owning the fact that my personal feelings and experiences were worth talking about, singing about, and putting on paper,” Johnson reflects.
“It was spring when we met. The panna cotta colored magnolias were in full bloom in Milan and their sweet perfume seemed to come in waves, in little puffs of perfection. He paused and looked up at them for a moment, almost pink against the bright, bluebird sky, but then instantly regretted stopping. She used to love this time of year. Primavera. If she had been here now, holding his arm on the way to nowhere, she would have undoubtedly commented on the magnolias.” You can find James on Instagram as @jamesottoallen.

In this episode I sat down with Texas native Terry McBride; who was making a run through Texas and was a judge at our TMP Songwriter Competition. Terry scored a #1 (Sacred Ground) as well as a string of Top 5 hits, with his group McBride and the Ride in the 90’s, but that’s only where his songwriting accolades begin… After McBride and the Ride disbanded, Terry began to focus most of his attention on songwriting, and through the years since has had songs cut by other artists such as Garth Brooks, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Hank Williams Jr., Ronnie Dunn, Kix Brooks, Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins, Easton Corbin, Lost Frequencies, Kenny Rogers, John Anderson, Cole Swindell, Jim Lauderdale, Chase Bryant, Clare Dunn, Ricky Van Shelton, George Ducas, David Ball, Casey James, Wade Hayes, Gretchen Wilson, Andy Griggs, Jedd Hughes, Jason Michael Carroll, James Otto, Gord Bamford, Emerson Drive, Rosie Flores, as well as Texas stars Cody Johnson, Jack Ingram, and Josh Ward. In 2004, Terry co-wrote American Idol finalist Josh Gracin’s top five single “Stay With Me/Brass Bed”. He followed that up by co-writing “Play Something Country” with Ronnie Dunn, which was the fastest rising single of Brooks and Dunn’s career and was also the final #1 song for the award-winning duo. Terry has had over 25 songs recorded by Brooks & Dunn, which led to 13 singles and 12 BMI million air awards. So we talk about his musical journey, get the scoop on his latest project and what’s next and pick his brain about songwriting and any advice he has for aspiring songwriters.

To people who want to make it in the music industry as a writer, musician, or producer... but don't know how to get started. Carson Chamberlain tells us how he made it in Nashville and worked with country stars like Keith Whitley, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Easton Corbin, and more in this episode of The Doorpost Podcast Project! BIO: Carson Chamberlain, a native of Berea, Kentucky, started professionally in the music business as a musician, bandleader and tour manager for the late Keith Whitley. After Keith's untimely death in 1989, he became tour manager for Clint Black, and later held the position of tour manager for Alan Jackson. In April of 1994, Carson took the position as Director of A&R for Mercury Nashville and was promoted to VP of A&R until his departure in August of 2002. Now Chamberlain is focusing all of his energy on writing and producing. As a BMI songwriter, Chamberlain has penned several number one singles for Alan Jackson such as “Love's Got A Hold On You,” Everything I Love,” and “Between The Devil And Me.” His penned song, “The Best Day,” the first single release from George Strait's Greatest Hits LP, quickly moved up the charts and stayed at #1 for three weeks. As a record producer, he has had other #1 success with the Mark Wills' singles “I Do (Cherish You),” “Don't Laugh At Me,” and “Wish You Were Here,” all #1 songs from his platinum-selling LP entitled “Wish You Were Here.” Chamberlain also, produced the #1 song “Back At One” from Mark Wills “Permanently” LP . Chamberlain penned Travis Tritt's hit single “Country Ain't Country,” and scored cuts on Gary Allan's Alright Guy album as well as Alan Jackson's Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits Volume 2, and Alan Jackson's 34 Number Ones, the single release “Another Side of You” on Joe Nichols, and the single release “Groovy Little Summer Song” on James Otto. In 2002, Chamberlain produced the Billy Currington's debut album for Mercury Records. Chamberlain also co-wrote the single “Walk A Little Straighter and “I Got A Feelin' “ both top ten country singles. Chamberlain also produced Billy Currington's #1 singles “Must Be Doin' Something Right” and “Good Directions” on his platinum selling album “Doin' Something Right” and #1 singles “Don't”, “People Are Crazy”, and “That's How Country Boys Roll” from his gold selling album “A Little Bit of Everything”. Chamberlain also produced Billy Currington's #1 singles “Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer” and “Let Me Down Easy” from his “Enjoy Yourself” album. In 2009, Chamberlain produced Easton Corbin's debut album. The first single “A Little More Country Than That” went to #1 and was the first single on a debut male artist to reach #1 in 7 years. The second single “Roll With It” also reached #1, making it the first time for a debut male artist to reach #1 with two consecutive #1 singles in 17 years. Chamberlain co-wrote the Corbin singles “I Can't Love You Back” and the third most played song on Country Radio in the year of 2013 “All Over The Road”. Chamberlain is currently in the studio producing an album on Jackie Lee, a new artist on Broken Bow Records. Other artists who have covered Carson's songs include Jamey Johnson, Craig Campbell, Gary Allan, Joe Nichols, Sammy Kershaw, James Otto, Hank Williams, Jr., John Michael Montgomery, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mark Wills, Julie Roberts, Blaine Larsen,, Keith Stegall, Don Williams, Jeff Bates, Chad Brock, Ronnie Milsap and The Lynns.
James Otto is the real deal. He had the most played song on country radio in 2008, CMA and ACM awards for “Song of the Year” and a grammy nomination. I’ve had the pleasure of doing a lot of recording, touring and writing with him over the years, and today he came by to chat with us about his craft, his definition of success, writing, touring, and his love of vintage cars. Oh, AND he does an acoustic performance of a new song at the end, so check it out!
