Blue October's Matt Noveskey | 20 Years of Foiled, 1.5 Billion Streams & a Full-Circle JourneySome interviews are about meeting someone for the first time. This one is about reconnecting with a story that has been part of mine for more than 25 years.I first saw Blue October at Rock Fest 2000 in Omaha, Nebraska—a legendary lineup featuring 311, Stone Temple Pilots, Incubus, Papa Roach, Nickelback and more. Months later, I opened for Blue October at the Ranch Bowl and eventually several more times, including at the Music Box. There was even a day spent hanging out at Fun-Plex before one of their Omaha shows. Then, in 2006, Justin Furstenfeld unexpectedly showed up at my band's show at Knickerbockers in Lincoln. He loved our set, gave us Blue October's manager's number, and asked if we wanted to tour. That opportunity ultimately became one of the moments that changed the trajectory of my band.Years later, I found myself working security when Blue October returned to Lincoln. Now, more than 25 years after I first saw the band, I sit down with bassist Matt Noveskey. We talk about Blue October's early days, the road to Foiled, the explosive success of “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean,” the challenges that came with that success, and what has allowed the band to remain creatively relevant nearly three decades later. We also dive into the 20th anniversary of Foiled, the album's lasting impact, Blue October's connection with generations of fans, and the incredible milestone of their catalog surpassing 1.5 billion streams. For me, this conversation is more than an interview. It's a full-circle moment with a band whose story has intersected with mine in ways I never could have predicted back in 2000.Listen. Watch. Subscribe. Looks like it's going to be a wet weekend…so if you've got outdoor stuff to do…today is probably your best option! In the news this morning, the results from yesterday's primary vote, another Powerball drawing is happening tonight, a recall on certain Toyota models, an American Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing after it hit a bird, and the Eau Claire Express beat the La Crosse Loggers again last night to advance to the Great Plains Championship game. In sports, the Brewers got shellacked by the Padres last night, the White Sox gave away over 40,000 Pope Leo hats, the MLB Field of Dreams game is tomorrow night, the NFL preseason begins tomorrow night as well, the Vikings are going with Kyler Murray as their QB1, the NBA released it's opening night & Xmas day schedules, and the Indiana Fever head coach is mad! We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight. Plus, a trailer for "Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story" dropped yesterday, a bunch of Super Mario Bros Nintendo cartridges were recently found in WI, and the Rock is apparently pursuing a music career now. Cool story about a kid in Utah who spent all summer working with his 3D printer to make a functional wheelchair for another young child. We talked to Jake from Autumn Kings about the band's recent viral story about using a strangers' vehicle to get from Rock Fest to Upheaval. It's "One Gotta Go Wednesday", and we decided to go with minor inconveniences this morning - Waking up a few minutes before your alarm goes off, your socks falling down inside of your shoe, a video you really want to watch buffering every five seconds, or forgetting your old password and trying to reset it…but getting told that your new password can't be the same as your old password. Elsewhere in sports, an amateur golfer gets busted for cheating on a hole-in-one, a high school football player who practiced with a deadly snake in his helmet, the latest on the Tulsa Little League legal battle, and a "bodybuilder" who was trying to win a competition by drinking heavily & taking 'Roids. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy in Arizona who got popped for DUI with "Drive Sober or get pulled over" license plates on his vehicle, a "Bodybuilder" who got prepared for a competition by drinking & using 'roids, a lifeguard in Maine that got dragged underwater by a SHARK, and a couple of new additions to the OnlyFans!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Holy Hump Day, Batman! We are loaded this morning as we head towards the weekend. In the news, the latest on the clean-up of the encampment in Madison, Kelly Osbourne posts & deletes some "cryptic" stuff on social media, a recall on nut butter sold at Walmart, Bryan Kohberger is looking for a new attorney, a Space-X rocket is going to crash into the moon today In sports, the Brewers beat the Pirates last night, Bijan Robinson…Zay Flowers…and Darnell Wright all signed contract extensions yesterday, Brock Lesnar announces his retirement on the Pat McAfee show, the NASCAR Clash is moving back to Daytona in 2027, and the NCAAF pre-season rankings are released. We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight. Plus, Zac Brown killed on Family Feud last night, and a celebrity version of "The Voice" is coming. The Autumn Kings played Rock Fest a couple of weeks ago…but it's what happened AFTER that show that's making news right now. And a woman's pet chihuahua might have been the reason she was able to find out she had breast cancer! On Hump Days, we play "One Gotta Go" Wednesday…and it's a choice between four popular social media sites. Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. or Snapchat. Which one are you getting rid of forever???? Elsewhere in sports, the NHL is getting rid of the amateur EBUG next season, Cleveland's WNBA team gets a name, a parrot attacks a soccer team, a longtime Boston College radio team gets fired by the new head coach, and a scandal at the Tour de France Femmes! County Fairs have a long history of amazing food, local & national music acts, various forms of entertainment….and plenty of other weird traditions. Here's a list of some of the more interesting things that happen at county fairs across America. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a dad who pretended to be his 11 year-old daughter on TikTok so he could attempt to kill her alleged rapist, a #Florida restaurant that launches a nude dining experience, a couple in Taiwan that were busted having sex in an IKEA, and a Canadian woman who got pulled over and had TWELVE fake IDs.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Holy crap are we loaded with stuff this morning! In the news, a recall on a popular fruit puree, the results of an independent autopsy on Nolan Wells, a deadly shooting in Madison, a garbage truck in Milwaukee explodes, William Shatner and his daughter reveal their recent battles with cancer, the wreckage of a Pan Am plane is located 74 years after it crashed, and wild video of a leopard attacking a shop owner in India! In sports, the Brewers beat the Mets last night for another series win, the Red Sox finally lost after winning 15 in a row, the Packers start training camp next week, Caitlin Clark gets another tech & is one away from a one-game suspension, the cover athletes for NBA2K are announced, and the Angels fired a scout for illegally taping other teams. We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight. Plus, Elon Musk is apparently making his own version of "The Odyssey" that will allegedly be more historically accurate than the Christopher Nolan version that's currently in theaters. Conan O'Brien explains what happened to his hair after recent pics of him went viral, a sequel to "Days of Thunder" is in the works, and the Ghostface from the "Scary Movie" franchise launches an OnlyFans account. Great story about a teen driver who trusted his gut & checked on a car in a ditch…which led to him possibly saving a woman's life! As we always do on Thursday mornings, we asked each other Hypothetical questions…and Brian's question for Jean was: "If you could only listen to music with one form of media for the rest of your life, what would it be? Tapes/Records/CDs/MP3s" While Jean's question for Brian was: " " Elsewhere in sports, Sophie Cunningham clarifies her statements on trans athletes, Charlie Woods gets interrupted in his backswing, the latest on the Cubs fan who slapped another fan when they refused to stand for the National anthem, an American cyclist gets brake-checked by a car before a stage at the Tour de France, and an update on the Puka Nacua bite allegations. Office Cora joined us just after 8am to talk about what she's up to this weekend in the 715 and to recap her time at Rock Fest last weekend. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a family in Alaska that were cleaning out a dead relatives house & found human remains in a freezer, an alligator that was blocking a family's front door, a roller coaster in Ecuador that tossed a passenger, a guy who got arrested for stealing a bunch of vodka & Bacon, a Great White shark that was swimming extremely close to some kids in the ocean, and a bear that hilarious got trapped in an SUV and wouldn't stop honking the horn.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're getting the gang back together! After a week at Rock Fest, Brian came back to an empty studio because Jean went to see AC/DC on Sunday. But this morning, we're both back in the studio and Grant Bilse of the Wisco Sports Show joined us on the phone just after 8am. In the news this morning, the latest on the lettuce recall, people are in love with Jimothy the raccoon, an epic meltdown in #Florida, the White House teleprompter guy was apparently betting on Trump's speeches, and Jean recapped her trip to Madison to see AC/DC. In sports, the Brewers kept the train rollin' with a win over the Mets last night, the Packers signed an extension with Devonte Wyatt, the Michigan AD is stepping down, the latest on the death of Hannah Rapp, and the financial situation with LIV golf is getting worse. We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight and we discussed the new "Avengers: Doomsday" trailer that dropped yesterday. Plus, Kelly Clarkson apparently thought she caught the explosive diarrhea…and Jerry Seinfeld was getting paid a ridiculous amount of money while filming "Seinfeld". Cool story about a 73 year-old guy who spends his time volunteering as a NICU baby cuddler, and a woman who bought a "soulmate drawing" off Etsy is now engaged to a guy that looks exactly like the drawing. Are you packing your cooler properly? Elsewhere in sports, FIFA is investigating the scrum after the World Cup championship game between Argentina and Spain, the WTA is going to start testing for gender, Josh Kerr breaks the 1-mile record, Bryson Dechambeau tried to call President Trump to help him with a penalty at the Open Championship, and people are arguing online about the viral video of a fan getting slapped by another fan after not standing for the National Anthem. We also had to talk about what's going on with Tom Brady. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who was naked & "surfing" on top of a moving train, a #Florida police chief who resigned after he was accused of having sex with the wife of a guy he was investigating, a #FloridaWoman who was three times over the legal limit when she crashed into a construction site, and diarrhea on a splash pad!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I love Rock Fest. I miss being there. I had such a great time. But man, am I glad to be home and poop in my own toilet, shower in my own shower, and sleep in my own bed. Jean's out this morning as she went to AC/DC last night in Madison. So, I ran a couple of the interviews we recorded while in the radio booth at Rock Fest including my conversations with the Autumn Kings, Kami Kehoe, and Story of the Year! In the news this morning, the explosive diarrhea has been traced back to some lettuce, the WI DNR extends their air quality advisory until noon today, David Crowley is back in the race for Governor of WI after getting an endorsement from Tony Evers, a man drowned in the Chippewa River after fleeing from police, and a start-up company is taking orders on survival pods! In sports, the Brewers restart the regular season with a sweep of the Marlins, Spain beats Argentina to claim the World Cup title and they got PAID by FIFA…which might be why they're trying to sell all that grass from the field in New Jersey(which isn't going over too well in the Garden State). Let you know what's on TV & streaming today/tonight and talked about the most-watched series on Netflix from the last four years. Plus, is Darius Rucker calling it a career? Today happens to be the anniversary of the release of the original "Neverending Story" movie…which lines up nicely with this story about a pony that almost suffered the same fate at Artax, but was rescued by a fire department in PA. And speaking of nice saves, check out this guy who used his own vehicle to stop a runaway vehicle in Washington. Elsewhere in the world of sports, Joey Logano gets his first win of the NASCAR season, Connor Bedard gets a contract extension, Cam Skattebo scares Giants fans by trying to do a flip at FanFest, Saquon Barkley's house gets robbed, Conor McGregor talks about the injuries he sustained during his last fight, and apparently…Madison Square Garden keeps a list of artists that may be difficult to deal with. In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy in Texas who just got his 12th OWI, a #FloridaMan who tried switching seats with his passenger after getting pulled over, a guy who fell into the tank of a porta potty and had to be cut out by a fire department, a woman who got busted with drugs hidden all over & in her body, a woman who was driving around naked with a bunch of drugs & guns in her car.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Happy Friday, yo! Planning to have a nice, relaxing weekend before getting pummeled at Rock Fest next week! Thankfully, it looks like it's going to be very comfortable in Cadott for most of the time we're there. We started the morning off with a few "holidays", including National Mojito Day, National Blueberry Muffin Day, and French Fry Day! We talked about some of the French Fry deals you can take advantage of today, along with some stats & info about our consumption of fries in America. We let you know what's on the tube this weekend and what's new in theaters…and we talked about the disrespect that Rick Springfield suffered on the Today Show yesterday. Doc joined us to talk racing thanks to County Materials in Holmen, and we checked out the celebration of Moo Deng's first birthday! Can you imagine the rest of the trip after this guy forgot his wife at a gas station? A recent poll discovered that a lot of us are self-conscious about our feet. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", a new phone case that feels & looks like real skin AND gets sunburnt.
