This one is about reconnecting with a story that has been part of mine for more than 25 years.I first saw Blue October at Rock Fest 2000 in Omaha, Nebraska—a legendary lineup featuring 311, Stone Temple Pilots, Incubus, Papa Roach, Nickelback and more. Months later, I opened for Blue October at the Ranch Bowl and eventually several more times, including at the Music Box. There was even a day spent hanging out at Fun-Plex before one of their Omaha shows.Then, in 2006, Justin Furstenfeld unexpectedly showed up at my band's show at Knickerbockers in Lincoln. He loved our set, gave us Blue October's manager's number, and asked if we wanted to tour. That opportunity ultimately became one of the moments that changed the trajectory of my band.Years later, I found myself working security when Blue October returned to Lincoln.Now, more than 25 years after I first saw the band, I sit down with bassist Matt Noveskey.We talk about Blue October's early days, the road to Foiled, the explosive success of “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean,” the challenges that came with that success, and what has allowed the band to remain creatively relevant nearly three decades later.We also dive into the 20th anniversary of Foiled, the album's lasting impact, Blue October's connection with generations of fans, and the incredible milestone of their catalog surpassing 1.5 billion streams.For me, this conversation is more than an interview. We talked to Jake from Autumn Kings about the band's recent viral story about using a strangers' vehicle to get from Rock Fest to Upheaval. In sports, the Brewers kept the train rollin' with a win over the Mets last night, the Packers signed an extension with Devonte Wyatt, the Michigan AD is stepping down, the latest on the death of Hannah Rapp, and the financial situation with LIV golf is getting worse. We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight and we discussed the new "Avengers: Doomsday" trailer that dropped yesterday. Plus, Kelly Clarkson apparently thought she caught the explosive diarrhea…and Jerry Seinfeld was getting paid a ridiculous amount of money while filming "Seinfeld". I love Rock Fest. I miss being there. I had such a great time. But man, am I glad to be home and poop in my own toilet, shower in my own shower, and sleep in my own bed. Back in the studio after a long weekend at Rock Fest. Obviously, Brian talked all about his days in Cadott…recapping the bands, the Bacon, the beers, and more! In sports this morning, the Brewers swept the Dodgers again and are the hottest team in MLB, Scottie Scheffler got another win this weekend, Denny Hamlin also got a victory yesterday, and the President isn't a fan of the Washington Commanders. Elsewhere in sports, a big shake-up with the NFLPA, Shannon Sharpe's sexual assault lawsuit reached a settlement, and an investigation into Terry Rozier. Happy Friday, yo! Planning to have a nice, relaxing weekend before getting pummeled at Rock Fest next week! Thankfully, it looks like it's going to be very comfortable in Cadott for most of the time we're there. Elsewhere in sports, Red Bull fires Christian Horner after 20 years, Randy Couture suffered major injuries in racing crash, donations from sports teams are flooding in to help with the recovery efforts & eventual clean-up in Texas, and cycling legend Greg LeMond recently received the Congressional Gold Medal.
