About the record, the band commented, “This new album is the result of our rawest emotions and most meaningful connections with people we've gotten to know and work with these past few years. We're incredibly proud of this music and we can't wait for you to make it yours. From our hearts to you, this is Keep Me Fed.”Keep Me Fed finds the group at the peak of their powers. Over the course of thirteen tracks, the album balances stadium-size hooks with airtight riffing and thunderous rhythms. In talking about the story behind the decision to name the album Keep Me Fed, “throughout the whole process, the work was consuming us,” says Pau. “By impacting everything we did, the album kept us fed both creatively and personally. We're inviting other people to participate and consume it too.”Pre-release singles featured “MORE” (performed at the 2023 MTV VMAs [Watch HERE]), “S!CK” which climbed to Top 8 at Active Rock and #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, music videos for “Burnout” & Spanish track “Qué Más Quieres” premered with MTV, as well as “Hell You Call A Dream” and “Automatic Sun” which are already fan favorites to hear live. Revolver applauded, “Like the Mexican sister-trio's previous output, it's undeniably infectious,” and Classic Rock hailed it as a “shot-in-the-arm of propulsive, fire-spitting hard rock.” Rolling Stone pegged it as one of “All The Songs You Need To Know This Week.” The trio will embark on the ‘Keep Me Fed' US headline tour this September & October, making stops in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, and more, before joining Evanescence and Halestorm on tour in Canada. Catch them on tour in the US this fall.ABOUT THE WARNING:The Warning draw strength and power from a lifetime of sisterhood and music. The Mexico-born sister trio—Daniela “Dany” [guitar, lead vocals, piano], Paulina “Pau” [drums, vocals, piano], and Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal [bass, piano, backing vocals]—have logged thousands of miles on the road, generated hundreds of millions of streams, and left countless fans in awe. All of this tireless work and dedication has shaped and sharpened their sound with knifepoint precision, arming alternative anthems with universally catchy hooks and an uncompromising hard rock kick. The girls have devoted themselves to a shared dream since their childhood in Monterrey, Mexico. They initially made waves with a string of independent releases, paving the way for their acclaimed 2022 full-length offering ERROR. Between performing alongside Muse, Foo Fighters, Guns N' Roses, Royal Blood, The Pretty Reckless, Three Days Grace and Imagine Dragons, the band ignited MTV's Extended Play Stage at the 2023 MTV VMAs. Representative of their cultural impact, Pepsi even notably chose them as the face of Pepsi Black in Mexico. Moreover, they emerged as the rare force who could comfortably appear in features by Vanity Fair, People, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour as well as on Metallica's star-studded Blacklist compilation—placing their cover of “Enter Sandman” [with Alessia Cara] shoulder-to-shoulder with contributions from Ghost, St. Vincent, Chris Stapleton, IDLES and Weezer. The Warning embrace their destiny on their 2024 full-length album, Keep Me Fed [LAVA/Republic Records] out now. We had the pleasure of interviewing Knox Zoom video!Nashville based singer/songwriter Knox recently released his vibrant debut EP and announced his signing with Atlantic Records.EP track “NYC” also receives an official music video, which made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU and MTV Biggest Pop today. “Sneakers,” another EP track that was released last year, has proven a huge success already, racking up nearly 2M TikTok views overnight and 16M streams and counting.Growing up in Ohio, Knox's whole existence before he ever wrote a song was playing basketball, soundtracked by artists such as Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, All-American Rejects, Lil Wayne, Drake and Ed Sheeran. The summer before he started at Ohio University, Knox finally picked up a guitar. He learned everything in those few months, self-taught through YouTube videos. Knox began playing open mic nights and by his sophomore year, his musical ambitions were so all-consuming that he dropped out of school, moved in with his grandma and began saving up money to start his life in Nashville. He made the leap in January 2019.Knox used covid isolation time to work on his craft. His focus paid off: his songs caught the attention of John Harvie, who placed a few on his album, as well as Harvie's label. Knox signed a publishing deal in 2022 but was struck with the urge to record a collection of songs he had been working on. The final result was How to Lose a Girl in 7 Songs, Knox's debut EP. With his own songs ready, he now needed to build a fanbase. Knox began filming TikToks featuring his song “Sneakers, and one amassed nearly two million views overnight. “Sneakers” has since reached over 16 million streams.Knox has since started to get on the road, opening for the Band Camino and Boys Like Girls (an emo staple he grew up with). “I'm six states away from home and there's a thousand people in the audience that are singing the song that I wrote with my friends in my bedroom,” he recalls. “And that's when it gets you, when you see real people genuinely connecting to something that I made with my best friends. It's the most unreal feeling in the world.”We want to hear from you! Please email Hello@BringinitBackwards.com.www.BringinitBackwards.com#podcast #interview #bringinbackpod #Knox #Sneakers #HowToLoseAGirlin7Songs #NewMusic #ZoomListen & Subscribe to BiBhttps://www.bringinitbackwards.com/follow/ Follow our podcast on Instagram and Twitter! https://www.facebook.com/groups/bringinbackpod

This week.. or month.. OK, this EPISODE, we try to stop apologising for our erratic schedule long enough to talk about how TIRED we are.. Literally, but also figuratively, since Marvel can't stop with the levity and DC can't stop with the grimdark, and the MTVU can't seem to settle on an episode length! We're Mighty Thor about it, and a bit Green about Disney's "muscle censors" too!
It is a privilege to welcome singer-songwriter Sidney Riley to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Hailing from Washington, D.C., singer-songwriter Sidney Riley has been involved with the arts since he first learned to play the piano at 9. He discovered his deep passion for singing when he became a cast member of the famous British children's television series: Children's Choice. While he was in high school, Sidney formed an A capella group and started writing original music. He had an incredible opportunity to join his choir. He participated in the 2001 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. He supported music icons Stevie Wonder, Patti Austin, and the late James Ingram and Ray Charles as they paid tribute to the legendary Quincy Jones.Shortly after performing at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts stage, Sidney's life changed dramatically. He fought Meningoencephalitis, a rare disease that left him in a coma for several months. Sidney Riley overcame a one-percent chance to live, but he had a long journey to recovery ahead. Doctors told him that paralysis caused immobility from his neck and that he would never walk again. After months of physical therapy and relearning how to walk again, Sidney surprised his friends and family when he walked unassisted across the graduation stage to receive his diploma with his choir. He credits the recovery partly to music's role in his life by keeping him motivated through that difficult time and giving him a sense of purpose. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Sidney Riley spoke about supporting Stevie Wonder and the late Ray Charles on the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts stage and recalling how he overcame Meningoencephalitis. He also spoke about his newest song: "It's Always Been You."

Smith is the author of RECORD COLLECTING FOR GIRLS (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2011), a music critic, and a recovering music industry gatekeeper. She began her career at MTV, quickly moving into the music programming department and yelling at everyone about indie rock until they listened and agreed to play it. She feels very lucky that worked out. While at MTV, Smith was the label rep for all the indie record labels in the known universe and programmed the only national indie rock video show, MTV2’s Subterranean. She also co-helmed the music programming for mtvU, the college music network, as well as creating their video award show, The Woodies. Since transitioning to music journalism and criticism, Smith has since been published by Billboard, Pitchfork, Salon, No Depression, Yahoo, and in a screed for Lenny Letter about the Rock Hall’s lack of women nominees that launched trend pieces in the New York Times and People, and caused Steve Miller, a curmudgeon rock star, to yell at the whole place that they needed to stop ignoring women. The trend has continued at every induction ceremony since. She’s been an editor and staff writer for CBS’s Radio.com and at Refinery29. At the latter, she made so much noise covering the Grammys and their mishandling of #MeToo and representation for women that the Recording Academy hired a crisis PR firm to handle her. Her coverage of the lack of representation for women at country radio caused tongues to wag all over Nashville and earned her a spot contributing an essay to WOMAN WALK THE LINE (UT Press, 2017). Presently, she’s the editor of Eater Dallas and yes, she will give you a food recommendation on request. Smith is the host and writer of the po

His title may be a mouthful, but it just exemplifies how many things Ayappa Biddanda can do, and do well, that he is Senior Director, Grass Roots & Video Promotion/Tour & Events Marketing at Concord, the largest truly independent music and theatrical rights company in the world. In an Industry Spotlight a few years ago, Ayappa told Play MPE some of his career highlights included: booking Matt Nathanson on The Howard Stern Show; booking Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats on The Grand Ole Opry; setting up an album event for Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; coordinating an unprecedented video premiere across MTV Live, MTVU, CMT Music, BET Soul, and BET Centric for Valerie June; being with O.A.R. on Capitol Hill in DC for Arts Advocacy Day alongside Norman Lear and Rep. John Lewis; booking Melissa Etheridge on the Power 106 Morning Show in LA to discuss her tribute to Stax. We talked about not only some of these stories, but how he's also gotten to work with legends like Merle Haggard, Tanya Tucker, Dolly Parton & Indigo Girls as well as newer artists like Amythyst Kiah and Allison Russell, coming from East Tennessee out to L.A. and back to Nashville, where he currently resides.
“Listen to my voice, don't look at me. It's what got me in the door, but also what never sealed the deal.” Sara Baiyu Porritt is multi-hyphenate. She's the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at Omnicom Media Group - but she's also a recovering pop star - a former R&B songstress-turned-Yogi who may or may not be becoming a podcasting mogul. Born in the rural tropics of China (Xiamen), Sara came to America a little girl - and fell in love with the soul of 90s R&B - Mariah, Whitney, Joel Scott, Floetry, and more - so much so that she started singing, answered a Craigslist ad, dropped outta highschool (twice!), and formed an (Asian) girl group. Several hair dos (and don'ts) later, Sara was recording with some of the biggest names, releasing albums, starring on the CW, onstage with Wyclef, and VJ'ing on MTVu. But as the music and media landscape was changing - Sara also found herself on the inside helping make waves for brands and artists alike. Beyond her DEI day-job, Sara now hosts the podcast “Hear Us Roar” - sharing stories of fearless Asian women traversing the road not taken, showing us all how ideas and passions can ignite transformative journeys. We had the pleasure of interviewing Matt LeGrand over Zoom video! Matt Legrand recently released his new music video to his single "Message in a Bottle"! The music video features Matt's alter ego – ‘Mathieu', and aims to show his fans a different side of Matt LeGrand. The song comes from Matt's self-titled EP which was released in November 2020.Matt LeGrand spent his infant years in France and at the age of seven years old, his family relocated to Chicago. [School of Everything Else 2021] This one gets HEAVY. But what did you expect from a podcast which has examined every one of the MCU movies and found the hurt and pain at the core of the characters, being presented with a show that is absolutely about that principle? Now all the rampant speculation has passed, we can sweep aside our assumptions regarding what this *might* have been about and focus on the melancholy story of its lonely antagonist. One of the core themes explored is that everyone's line for forgiveness falls in a different place. We hope that two hours of delving into how it handles grief, bringing along some deeply personal accounts of loss, might lend some perspective on the MTVU's first big show. Guests: Victoria Luna B. We talk with Marco Pavé about the history of Southern Rap, his career in the often misunderstood music industry, and how to take control of your life and music. Marco is incredibly knowledgeable on a ton of subjects, and we loved this conversation. Born and raised in North Memphis, Pave started rapping seriously to articulate the dangerous day-to-day realities of his neighborhood. Pavé has built an unprecedented career that uses hip hop culture not only as a means of personal expression, but also as an educational tool designed to make an impact on both individuals and systems of power. In 2013, Pavé was a 20-year-old budding rapper and community activist working a demoralizing dead-end security job at Kroger to make ends meet. When his son was born at the end of the year, he made a choice that would change the course of his life: to define success entirely on his own terms and build a wholly independent career in the arts. Since 2013, he has forged a twin identity as a champion of indie Southern rap and as an educator working to stimulate community activism and entrepreneurship through the lens of hip hop music and culture. During the same period, Pavé blossomed as a recording artist. He opened for Mobb Deep, Waka Flocka Flame, and Young Dolph and worked with GRAMMY Award-winning producers like Carlos Broady. In 2015, “Black Tux,” the Mike Brown-inspired lead single from his EP Perception, aired on Ebro Darden’s Beats 1 Radio show and MTVU, paving the way for press coverage from The Source, The Root, and MTV News. In 2017, he released his debut album Welcome to Grc Lnd, which cast a documentarian lens on Memphis’s grassroots activists who were raising their voices in protest of the city’s endemic racism and poverty. In 2018, he was commissioned to turn the album into Memphis’s first-ever rap opera. Check out Marco's new single, 'Dirty Benz', wherever you listen to music. It's as serious banger. Since that time, Sara has shattered stereotypes by launching a record label at the age of 17 with a Grammy winning music producer, VJ’ing for MTVu while attending Princeton University, and starring in CW’s “The Next” alongside rapper Nelly. Sara shares how she was able to reinvent herself when she decided to join an all Asian female R&B singing group and how it helped her boost her confidence and be her true self in the process. For as long as he can remember, Matt LeGrand has been in love with music. Matt spent his infant years in France and at the age of seven years old, his family relocated to Chicago. The vibrant city and its influential musicians made an immediate impression on the youngster, who found himself exploring a different genre every night, and diving headfirst into the creation of his own sound. Immersing himself in the music scene, he picked up every instrument he could from the guitar to the drums, before finally falling effortlessly into the world of songwriting. In college he took things to the next level, performing in bands and duos around campus, and exploring sounds that eventually brought him to the deeply melodic, urban pop style that has become his staple, solidifying him as a must-watch talent on the Chicago scene. His powerfully energetic mix of soulful grooves and hard hitting pop hooks caught the attention of the music industry and brought Matt LeGrandʼs high energy, dance focused performances to nightclubs and events across The Windy City, launching his burgeoning career to new heights, and later landed him a nomination for MTVU’s The Freshman video contest. In 2017, Matt released his summer hit single “All Good” which debuted with highly-acclaimed reviews from the Huffington Post saying “Matt LeGrand demonstrates he has the vocal chops, personal charisma and musical awareness to produce a superb pop song.” “All Good” received a smattering of national attention from major music and entertainment blogs such as Celeb Mix, The New Nine, Kings of A&R, Young Entertainment Blog, AusPop, Poparazzi, among others. The “All Good” video was played in over 1,300 Footlockers locations around the country including the Clubcom Music Video Network which also added Matt LeGrand’s holiday single “What Christmas Means to Me” video on their Pop reel. “All Good’ and “What Christmas Means to Me” were seen in bowling alleys and other sports related venues such as LA Fitness, Gold’s Gym, Crunch Fitness Centers and New York Sports Clubs. Furthermore, Matt LeGrand has recently joined the Music Choice family and established his place as a major pop star. As a follow up to “All Good” Matt LeGrand premiered the video for his cover of Stevie Wonder’s “What Christmas Means to Me” during the holiday season, exclusively via HuffPost, propelling him into the national spotlight and establishing his place as a major pop star. Combined all this success with his charismatic personality and intoxicating performance style, Matt LeGrand has become one of Chicagoʼs fastest rising stars. Needless to say, itʼs only the beginning for Chicagoʼs Prince of Pop. Radio One Chicago airs live every Thursday night on WLUW-FM from 6p to 8p cst.

We do that voodoo that we do so well in this one. Once again, we solve racism by discussing 42 and BLAZING SADDLES, but first we remember to get angry about an upcoming WILLY WONKA prequel and future "Breaking Bad" movie. We also go into "Daredevil" season 3, for all those who haven't abandoned the MTVU (that's not a thing). The two feature films are very different and we reach some interesting conclusions as to who handles the subject matter better. Don't be racist. Centennials and Rose Boulevard drummer Pete Stern joins Bill and Brian to discuss singer songwriter Elliott Smith's major label debut XO (1998, Dreamworks). Coming up in the Portland indie scene of the 90s, Smith eschewed the alt stylings of his band Heatmiser and gained attention with his folksy, DIY home recording. He got his big break when director Gus Van Zant included the song "Miss Misery" on the Good Will Hunting soundtrack, and this album followed shortly after. Pete discusses hearing Elliott Smith first on MTVu but not really delving into his catalog until a few years later when his biography was released. Bran, Bill, and Pete then talk about the Oscars performance and Celine Dion, what Elliot's problem with Heatmiser was, Smith's 2003 suicide, the quality production of the album, the criminally underrated Jon Brion, a whole bunch of diving into Smith's dense lyrics, Joey and Lenny Waronker, driving to Nashville on shrooms while listening to Weezer's "Hash Pipe," Brian Wilson's love of "Shortening Bread," how we would shorten the album a bit, and much much more are we make our way through the album track by track!
The Agents of SHIELD Season 3 finale aired recently, and I’ve got some thoughts about it, Skye, Daisy, and the MTVU and how it differs from the MCU. Plus, Man-Thing, Man-Thing, Man-Thing!

Episode #15: In this episode, we explore the historical impact of musical videos by looking at the advent and evolution of MTV, and the explosion of YouTube as a format for music, and music videos. We kick off the hour with Courtney Smith, a former programmer for MTV and MTVU, who gives us a bird's eye view of how videos were selected for air, and how her days with the station were different than the early days. From there we toggle over to Ed Vetri of Wind-Up Records, who explains the importance of music videos to his label's growth, and the careers of bands like Evanescence and Creed. After that, we catch up with music video director, Alicia J. Rose, and talk to her about what's changed since she got into the directing game a decade ago. Rounding out the hour is a discussion with Jack Conte, who's band Pomplamoose has made videos a priority from the outset of their career, which eventually led him to develop the video subscription/patronage website Patreon. Who hasn’t indulged the childhood fantasy of playing in a band with your best friend and promising to stay together forever (and ever)? Only in the case of Kira Leyden and Jeff Andrea—co-leads of the Akron Ohio based The Strange Familiar. The pair met and played in their first band together as pre-teens at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Lead vocalist & keyboardist Leyden and guitarist Andrea parlayed their musical partnership into a bond of matrimony. The couple recently had their first child, daughter Rayne. Alongside talented band-mates and fellow Ohio-bred musicians Nicholas Sainato on drums and Frank Freeman on bass, The Strange Familiar has certainly earned its namesake. In 2008, they made their recorded debut with the indie EP release You Can't Go Back and followed up it up with two indie album releases This Is Gravity (2009) and Chasing Shadows in 2012. Their songs have been prominently featured on popular shows such as Pretty Little Liars, NBC’s The Biggest Loser and The Vampire Diaries, “Switched at Birth,” ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters,” Teen Nick’s “Degrassi” and LMN’s “The 19th Wife.” Their song “Courage" was used for the series premier of “Secret Life of an American Teenager” and became the un-official theme song by the show’s fans. With all this growing exposure, the band was nominated and won MTVu’s Freshman Challenge. Signed to Krian Music Group, their new album The Day The Light Went Out, will be released April 2014.The first single “Rain” is now available on iTunes
Josh recaps everything from over the weekend including how his car got towed and what he did to get it back. All this and more in this weekend's recap!
Steven Hiroyuki Aoki (born November 30, 1977) is an American electro house musician, record producer, DJ, and music executive. In 2012, Pollstar designated Aoki as the highest grossing dance artist in North America from tours. He has collaborated with artists such as Iggy Azalea, Afrojack, LMFAO, Linkin Park, Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke, BTS, Louis Tomlinson, Rise Against, Vini Vici and Fall Out Boy and is known for his remixes of artists such as Kid Cudi. Aoki has released several Billboard-charting studio albums as well, notably Wonderland, which was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album in 2013. He is the founder of the Steve Aoki Charitable Fund, which raises money for global humanitarian relief organizations. Steven Hiroyuki Aoki was born in Miami, Florida, and grew up in Newport Beach, California. He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1995, where he was a player on the varsity badminton team. He is of Japanese descent, the third child of Rocky Aoki and Chizuru Kobayashi. His father was a former wrestler who also founded the restaurant chain Benihana. He has two older siblings, sister Kana (who is sometimes called by her middle name "Grace"), and brother Kevin (owner of Doraku Sushi restaurant). His half-sister is model and actress Devon Aoki. Aoki attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with two B.A. degrees, one in feminist studies and the other in sociology. In college, he produced do-it-yourself records and ran underground concerts out of his Biko room in the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative, which was located in Isla Vista, a section of residential land adjacent to UCSB. As a concert venue, the apartment became known as The Pickle Patch. Aoki was also involved in student activism at UCSB, being the founder of a Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League chapter on campus. By his early 20s, Aoki had built his own record label, which he named Dim Mak - a reference to his childhood hero, Bruce Lee. In March 2010 Aoki released "I'm in the House", a collaboration with Zuper Blahq-alter-ego of The Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am. The song charted at No. 29 in the UK Singles Chart in its first week of release, and later entered the UK Dance Chart and the UK Indie Chart, peaking within the top five in each chart. The song was featured on an Episode of MTV's Jersey Shore, as well as in the feature film Piranha and the trailer for Think Like A Man. Producer-songwriter Lucas Secon confirmed in a May 2010 interview with HitQuarters that he and Rivers Cuomo had recently worked with Aoki on a single. Aoki's first solo album, Wonderland, was released January 2012 and features guest vocalists and musicians Lmfao, Kid Cudi, Kay, Travis Barker, will.i.am aka Zuper Blahq, Wynter Gordon, Rivers Cuomo, Lil Jon, Chiddy Bang, Lovefoxxx of CSS, Big John Duncan (former guitarist of the punk band The Exploited), and others. A remix album was released shortly after. On December 11, 2012, Aoki released his first EP, It's the End of the World As We Know It, which includes three songs. Aoki was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album for Wonderland at the 2013 55th Annual Grammy Awards. On October 11, 2013, Aoki collaborated with Linkin Park on the song "A Light That Never Comes" that was included on the remix album, Recharged, 18 days later. Several remixes of the song were added on the January 2014 digital download EP A Light That Never Comes (Remixes). "A Light That Never Comes" was used in films such as Expendables 3. Aoki finished in 6th place in the 2013 America's Best DJ competition-a vote and promotion to find out the country's most popular DJ conducted by DJ Times magazine and Pioneer DJ. In May 2015, it was announced that Relativity Productions had acquired the rights to distribute the documentary I'll Sleep When I'm Dead in the United States. Filmed during the making of his Neon Future double album, the film is focused on Aoki and delves into his family history, lifestyle, music, and his business. It is co-produced by Matthew Weaver and David Gelb, who together had previously worked on the 2011 documentary Jiro Dreams Of Sushi. Among the executive producers are Ryan Kavanaugh and Tucker Tooley. In February 2018, Aoki announced the release of his five-track EP titled 5OKI, the follow up to his 2016 EP 4OKI. The EP would feature him collaborating with other producers to produce a "cross-genre" track collective. "I'm really putting an emphasis on EDM and I'm putting an emphasis on cross-genre collaboration. For EDM itself I'm making a big statement of re-claiming it as something [that's] really important to me - kinda like giving back to my community," stated Aoki prior to the EP's release. The tracks were released at a weekly interval over five weeks from 23 March to 20 April, with "Mayhem" featuring Quintino releasing on 23 March 2018, followed by "Pika Pika" with Loopers, "It's Time" with Laidback Luke, "Anthem" with Hardwell, and concluding with "Moshi Moshi" with Vini Vici. On May 18, 2018, Aoki released new single "Pretender" featuring AJR and rapper Lil Yachty. In June 2018, Aoki remixed Rita Ora's hit single "Girls" featuring Charli XCX, Bebe Rexha and Cardi B. Later that month, alongside Italian DJ Marnik, they released their version of "Bella Ciao", which garnered controversy. The new dance music version of the track was deemed inappropriate and insulting by many. On July 20, 2018, Aoki released new single "Lie To Me" featuring singer-songwriter Ira Wroldsen. Aoki has won and been nominated for a number of industry awards, both in annual competitions and in magazine rankings. In 2007, he was named Best Party Rocker DJ by BPM Magazine, Best DJ of the Year by Paper Magazine, and Best Set of the Season at the Ibiza Awards. Several years later, in 2012, he was named #15 in the Top 100 DJs in DJ Magazine, and was named America's #2 Best DJ. Also in 2012, he won an EDM Effect Woodie Award by MTVu, and the following year he was nominated for his first Grammy. Aoki finished in 6th place in the 2013 America's Best DJ competition conducted by DJ Times magazine, and finished in 8th place in 2013 & 2016 and 10th place in 2014, 2015 And 2017 for DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs competition. In 2014, Aoki was awarded two Guinness World Records, one for the "longest crowd cheer", and also for the "most amount of glow sticks for thirty seconds." Aoki performed at the 2015 Ultra Music Festival in Miami Beach on May 21. He also earned the Guinness record for "most traveled musician in one year", with 161 shows in 41 countries in 2014. Since early in his career Aoki has been involved with various charities, and EDM.com named him No. 1 on their list of the eleven most charitable EDM producers. He is the founder of the Steve Aoki Charitable Fund, which raises money for global humanitarian relief organizations and medical research. Among the organization's fund-raising methods are Aoki's touring events, "memorabilia auctions", and collaborations with other artists. In early 2015 he was named as Global Ambassador for the Best Buddies program, which is a non-profit devoted to young people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Also around that time MTV Latin America awarded Aoki the Chiuku Award for humanitarian work. He was presented with the award at the International Dance Music Awards.

The 23-year-old singer, songwriter, and musician, is a spark of light for the Pop/Rock genre. Born in California, raised in Brooklyn, her bohemian east village style is subtle, fly, and relatable. Her experience growing up in a church choir, gives her music an airy and optimistic feel. Krissy Krissy’s debut single “Dream” hit iTunes on March 20 and has been making waves ever since. Debuting in the TOP 10 at Clear Channels I Heart Radio. The popularity of her debut video for “Dream” landed it a featured spot on MTV.com, and it has over 16,000 hits on YouTube. MTVu recently featured “Dream” on its Freshman Pick of the week contest where it competed against four talented up and coming artists; Krissy Krissy won the contest. In the blog and media world, New York City tastemaker, Vashtie featured Krissy Krissy on her blog, saying, “Check out this rising star, Krissy Krissy, just some good old real music.” Along with that, popular German blog ‘Urbanista’ listed her as an inspiration, ‘Remington’s World’ blogged about her, “Creating beautiful art in the form of Pop/Rock songs,” then ‘Prepster’ choose “Dream” as a favorite of the week and, ‘Kara Ali’ blogged, “the video for the single “Dream” is off the chain!” In Krissy’s own words, “Dream Is a song that captures where I started and the determination I have to get to where I want will be. There’s nothin impossible.” W5H Media said it best, “It has been a long time since I heard a good pop rock song. The 90′s had a good share of artists that represented and gave the genre a well-deserved spot. But since then, only a hand full of individuals have managed to make an impact on the music industry. It’s said that talent sometimes skips generations and that just might be the case. Here comes Krissy Krissy.” Krissy Krissy will be opening for Kara Ali this summer on the “Cheap Red Wine” Tour, and other tour dates will be announced. Her second single “Suspicious” just made its debut on iTunes and she is finishing her first full EP “Above All.” For more info: http://www.indiereviewcd.com https://twitter.com/IndieRevue https://www.instagram.com/indie.review https://www.facebook.com/indie.review --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/indie-review/support
