We're back babies! For our first episode of the season, we're going LIVE to the Fat Studies 2022 Conference. This episode was recorded on July 7, 2022. We kick off with an introduction by the amazing Aimee Simpson, the organizer of this year's conference. We follow with a moment of remembrance for Cat Pausè, conference founder, who passed away late last year. Cat was and remains an inspiration to so many of us, and her work and impact on Fat Studies will remain with us forever. For our appetizer, we talk about our favorite chocolate foods, and of course, there are some real #neurodivergentvibes to the way some of us engage with chocolate, and Bryan infodumps on Cadbury. We then get into our main course for the episode, which is a Captain Awkward piece from a fat woman who says she's struggling deeply to find herself loveable. As we dig in, we unpack the ways that we conflate sex with love, desirability with value, and how the anti-fatness outside and inside of us sets the boundaries for what we can and can't realistically have, and how to wrestle with that honestly and still find joy. On a side note, we're so excited to be welcoming you all back to Unsolicited Season Two. Episodes will drop every two weeks on Sunday, and we're launching a Patreon with our next episode. Thank you to every one of you who has listened and shared and engaged with our work, we're so honored to have you as our listeners. Transcript will be coming soon. Is there social, political, economic, and cultural war being waged on fat bodies? Scholars have argued that fat stigma is contributing to the social and physiological harm of fat people and that this stigma is in fact a central driver of morbidity and mortality at a population level. For FFJ’s second issue, WAR, our editor Zoë brings you another episode of Feminist Food Stories featuring her conversation with two scholars working at the intersection of food studies and fat studies. They discuss the war on “obesity”, its roots, its manifestations in the food movement, and their hopes for fat food justice in the future. This podcast features writing, research, and sound editing by Zoë Johnson and original music from the Electric Muffin Research Kitchen. This week I am re-releasing this episode with Cat Pausé.  I didn't know her well, in fact we only met twice.  I was on her podcast Friend of Marilyn and she was on mine.  But her work was brilliant and I was so honoured to have her on the show.  She recently, vey suddenly passed away. I wanted to do something to show how amazing she was and how much of an impact she has had on me.  The fact she came onto my growing podcast and gave her limited time to a fledging fat liberationist is a true testimony to her generous nature.  I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to talk to her about something she clearly had so much passion about.  Here is the newsletter notes I released just before the show was available for download:The episode that is going to be released tomorrow is amazing.  Truly.  If you have never heard of Cat Pausé, then you need to immediately go here and here and here!  I don't think I fangirl enough in this episode but in all honesty, I look up to this woman.  I think the things she has done in the world of fat activism are exemplary and worthy of praise.  Please don't miss this episode.  Cat and I discuss:Cat's journey to fat politics and her political activism in New ZealandWhy the key too fat liberation has nothing to do with healthDefining fat activismThe palatability of certain fat activism proxiesThe different types of fat activismThe three "defining" events of fat activismThe messiness of activismCat's experience with burnout and the direction her radio show took because of itThe dominance of US voices in the movementWhat it means to Queer fat activismRest In Power CatKeep reading everyone
