Parenting adult kids means shifting from control to connection—this episode unpacks four biblical principles to help you build trust, encourage independence, and keep the relationship strong.Based on the book “Doing Life with Your Adult Children: Keep Your Mouth Shut and the Welcome Mat out” by Jim Burns.--The PursueGOD Family podcast helps you think biblically about marriage and parenting. Email us at podcast@pursueGOD.org.Donate Now --How to Parent Your Adult Kids Without Losing the RelationshipParenting doesn't stop when your kids become adults—but it definitely changes. If you keep treating them like teenagers, you'll sabotage your relationship. Jim Burns, in his book Doing Life with Your Adult Children, gives practical principles for navigating this tricky new season. The big idea? Shift from control to connection. This topic will explore four core principles from Burns to help parents make the shift from authority figures to trusted advisors—and become the kind of parents adult kids actually want to talk to. Whether you're struggling to keep your mouth shut or wondering what role you now play in their lives, this guide will give you biblical wisdom and practical advice.Principle #1The relationship must change as your kids become adults. Move from being the boss to being a mentor and friend. “You are a consultant at their will.” You're not there to control but to encourage. It's okay to grieve the change, but don't let your identity depend on being needed.Proverbs 22:6Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.Principle #2Only offer advice when asked. Unsolicited input often sounds like criticism. James 1:19 reminds us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Let your kids make mistakes—they'll learn more from experience than from lectures.James 1:19“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”Winston Churchill: “You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.”Keep the long view in mind. Build a new, trusting relationship.Principle #3The goal is healthy independence. Adult children need to take ownership of their lives, especially if they're still living at home. Set clear expectations: be productive, respect house rules, and move toward financial and relational independence with timelines and boundaries.Be productive in the home (chores, etc)Honor the moral code of the homeBe financially responsible and set clear goals of where they want to be in a yearSet deadlines for the arrangement and clear consequences if brokenPrinciple #4Be a peacemaker with in-laws and a fun, faith-filled grandparent. Don't create pressure around holidays or competing family events. Instead, leave a legacy of love, prayer,

In this eye-opening and deeply healing conversation, I'm joined by Debbie Mirza, bestselling author of The Covert Passive-Aggressive Narcissist, to explore one of the most confusing and devastating relational dynamics: covert narcissism. We dive into the subtle signs of manipulation, why highly empathetic and spiritual people are often the targets, and how covert narcissists use spiritual language, fake empathy, and even sexuality to undermine your self-trust. Debbie also shares what healing actually looks like after this kind of relationship—how to become the safest place for yourself, rewire your understanding of love, and rebuild a connection with your heart that no one can take from you. This conversation is for you if you've ever felt drained, confused, or like you're “too sensitive” in a relationship—and especially if you've been taught to doubt your intuition in the name of growth.Connect with Debbie:https://www.debbiemirza.com/www.instagram.com/debbiemirza_authorYouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@debbiemirza1744/videosAmazon Author Page:https://www.amazon.com/stores/Debbie-Mirza/author/B06XBLPD4T?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true&ccs_id=14280a74-8667-4ab0-8f95-4863c445e659❥1:1 Coaching with me: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfWcZM5s9c2OjOLwoGMI5jE6rh_JAzjN2d_vCtuVe7e3pVGxw/viewform❥❥Join HeartSpace monthly community with a free trial: https://marinayt.com/community❥❥❥Stay or Go Course: https://marinayt.com/stay-or-go ❥❥❥❥ FREE RESOURCE: a step-by-step process of working with your triggersTRIGGERED TO ROOTED: A ROADMAP TO CREATE TREASURES FROM YOUR TRIGGERSThis powerful step by step process will walk you through how to somatically move through a trigger, ground yourself, allow the emotions to come up and experience massive growth in your lifeDownload here: https://marinayt.com/trigger-2-rootedFollow me on Instagram: www.instagram.com/marina.y.t Subscribe to YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/@marinatriner Top Episode Quotes:"Covert narcissists aren't obvious—but your body always knows the truth.""Healing is about becoming the safest place possible for your own heart. The AI Wild West just got wilder — and we're riding straight into the melee. In this episode, Brian Balfour, Fareed Mosavat, and special guest Aaron White crack open the three questions every builder is secretly sweating right now: Can you actually differentiate when every launch feels like a land-grab? Is “move fast” still an edge — or just table-stakes? What happens when OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic hoover up all the context you thought was your moat? Expect hot takes on speed-as-a-moat, why Apple's “slow and perfect” playbook suddenly looks brittle, and how vertical-niche founders can still carve out 10-to-100× markets hiding in plain sight. You'll hear: The Great Land Grab – Why OpenAI's next platform move could dwarf Facebook's 2007 dev-platform blitz. Speed vs. Strategy – If “move fast” is merely table stakes, what actually sets winning teams apart? Moats in 2025 – From data loops to brand trust, which defenses still work—and which are illusions? Niche Power Plays – How vertical micro-SaaS and “taste-driven” products can survive the AI tidal wave. The Dark & Bright Futures – Privacy nightmares, device wars, and the unexpected upside for founders who master context. If you're building, investing, or just trying to keep your head above the AI tidal wave, hit play. This convo will arm you with the mindset (and the memes) you need to survive the quicksand and still grab the crown. Strap in—let's ride.
Does everyone come to you when there's a problem because you're known for giving the best advice or being good in a crisis? Do you intervene in family members' situations before they even ask for help? Do you feel anxious or guilty when others struggle? Do you rush to smooth things over? Or do you subconsciously look for people to save? The broken-winged birds? These are all signs you might have a savior complex. If you're exhausted from playing this role, you're in the right place. I'll walk you through how to become an authentic supporter rather than a savior, the differences between the two, and share a few reasons why some of us naturally fall into the role of savior. Last week we talked about Everyone-versus-Everyone. That hasn't stopped. Before we could edit and publish the last episode, Google unleashed a “do-everything” AI bundle. Last week we talked about when everyone ships everything at once, how do you find the whitespace? This week we continue to discuss two more tectonic shifts: 1. The Great SEO Trade-Off ➜ The AI Answer Engine - Google's new AI-mode could nuke the blue-link economy that's powered the internet for 20+ years. If LLMs hoard the traffic, who keeps creating the content they need to stay smart? Expect hot takes on long-tail extinction, “answer-engine optimization,” and whether originality still pays. 2. Hiring Hangover Meets AI Reality - New-grad recruiting is down 50 %, senior talent is grumbling, and managers admit they'd rather spin up an LLM than onboard Gen Z. Brian and Fareed unpack why the entry-level pipeline collapsed, where the arbitrage is hiding, and how startups can weaponize AI-native rookies before incumbents wake up. We add a dash of labor-economics humor, a sprinkle of Shopify-meets-Stack-Overflow, and you've got an episode that will leave you rethinking your product, growth, and hiring strategy all at the same time.

In this episode Brian Balfour and Fareed Mosavat are joined by Ravi Mehta to talk about The Great Bundle Brawl, Granola's Escape Hatch, The AI Flywheel, and more.

Sox fans! Our Chicago White Sox were embarrassed this past weekend by the Chicago Cubs. When will the pain stop? When will the Sox be competitive again? It's a sickening feeling to realize the good times might be very far away. We are hanging onto prospects, hope and the feeling that it can't be this way forever. There are silver linings... not many... but they are there. Jonathan Cannon has had a nice month of May and Miguel Vargas was tough to stop on the North Side. Little sizzle and no steak. Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson are reinstated? When, if ever, will they be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox

The “AI memo” craze is officially here—and it's more than executive theater. In this episode, Brian Balfour and Fareed Mosavat break down how leading CEOs (Shopify, Duolingo, Box, Meta) are using public AI manifestos to jolt their companies into a faster, smarter future—and what product leaders must do next to turn those words into shipping velocity. What we cover: - The 5-Layer AI Memo Framework—ownership, expectations, directives, accountability, constraints—so your decree actually drives behavior. - Experiment → Learn → Share Loops that turn scattered tinkering into org-wide best practices. - Concrete “forcing-function” constraints (team-size caps, prototype-only reviews, head-count ceilings) that accelerate adoption. - Why value creation beats cost cutting—and how to put AI on the roadmap, not just the balance sheet. - Meta's new AI app: a real-time case study on distribution, context, and the missing zero-to-one spark. - Cultural fault lines—leaders, followers, laggards—and playbooks for bringing the middle 80 % over the line (before performance reviews do it for you). Whether you're drafting your own AI memo or figuring out how to implement the one that just landed in your inbox, this conversation delivers the practical moves to convert manifesto hype into measurable product momentum.

Episode 3529: Listening can be one of the most powerful ways to support a friend struggling with their mental health. Sara Stanizai offers practical advice on how to be there for them without overstepping, focusing on empathy, asking rather than assuming, and making thoughtful, specific suggestions when appropriate. By taking on the role of a supportive co-pilot rather than a rescuer, you can help your loved ones navigate their struggles while empowering them to take the next steps on their own terms. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://www.prospecttherapy.com/blog/2018/7/3/how-to-support-your-friends-mental-health Quotes to ponder: "Literally, just be quiet. That's the first thing I learned in therapy school! (Just kidding. Sort of.) Keep your mouth shut and hear them out." "Unsolicited advice (except in the form of super cool blog posts) isn't helpful. If anything, it just adds to their feelings of overwhelm." "We ultimately want to set troubled loved ones up to make strides on their own, and removing ourselves from the action, yet not detaching emotionally, is a vital part of that."
