Benefits Of Regulating The Nervous System; With Deborah Craig

Slam the Gavel welcomes back Deborah Craig from Glasgow, Scotland to the podcast. Deborah was last on Season 4, Episodes 26 and 56 (3-16-2023), and today we talked about regulating the nervous system as well as the causes of the dysregulation.     Feeling anxious, waiting for the other shoe to drop, constantly worrying and feeling "foggy," are signs and symptoms of a dysregulated nervous system. Also peri-menopause, menopause, childhood trauma, one-off trauma and learned behaviors, untreated chronic stress, depression, high stress jobs and if not treated, can lead to burnout and other illnesses. It's good to have awareness of these issues as well as hormone shifts, and there are solutions.    "If people could learn how to regulate the nervous system themselves they could have the clarity to then create a better life for themselves," stated Deborah. Deborah also works in collaboration with a dietician to help with managing her clients.      Deborah works with many women, where they don't know where the self-doubt, stress, anxiety and constantly questioning themselves is coming from. This is where life style shifts come in and people need to make changes in their lives with exercise and diet which also go hand in hand with regulating the nervous system. "The Journey is to stop getting stuck in the cycle and set yourself free from your own mental prison," Deborah explains. To Reach Deborah Craig: www.deborahcraig.com, YouTube: @the holistichypnotherapist******** Supportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)Maryann Petri: dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.comhttps://www.tiktok.com/@maryannpetriFacebook:  https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/guitarpeace/Pinterest: Slam The Gavel Podcast/@guitarpeaceLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/maryann-petri-62a46b1ab/  YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536  Twitter https://x.com/PetriMaryann*DISCLAIMER* The use of this information is at the viewer/user's own risk. Rebroadcast: Emiline Smith on Demystifying Cultural Trafficking and Nepal's Quest for Restorative Justice

Last month, in January, several stolen cultural heritage were returned to Nepal from the United States. Among them were sacred idols of the Hindu god Uma-Maheshwar that were stolen almost 50 years ago from Chyasal, Patan. They were identified recently in the storage facilities of the Brooklyn Museum, which began repariation, after the efforts of Newa Guthi New York.   Locals welcomed their Gods with heartfelt celebrations and a puja for forgiveness. The idols were taken around the city in chariots and, finally, re-instated in Chyasal hiti.   In recent years, Nepal has seen many such successful repatriation efforts. The trafficking of cultural heritage had once left local communities with immeasurable pain and loss.  So, In this re-broadcast, we bring my conversation with criminologist Dr Emiline Smith about cultural heritage trafficking in Nepal. Originally aired on 26 September 2022, in this episode, PEI's Khushi and Emiline delve into the obscure world of cultural heritage trafficking and its impact on communities, with a particular focus on Nepal. The two tap into Emiline's expertise as a criminologist to understand the processes involved in the trafficking of cultural objects and its history and persistence in Nepal. They then discuss the repatriation of such objects and how restorative justice can be achieved in the process. Dr. Emiline Smith is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Glasgow (Scotland). She is a Fellow of the Centre for Criminology at the University of Hong Kong and a member of the Trafficking Culture Research Consortium and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime. In addition, she is an advisor to the Nepal Heritage Recovery Campaign and several other NGOs. She recently authored and published a trilingual storybook for children titled ‘Pema and the Stolen Statue from Dolpa'; for more information, see www.stolenstatues.com. This episode's FAQ is: How do I know what to pack? Today's Destination is Glasgow, Scotland Today's Mistake- Bee stings  Travel Advice:  Limit yourself to one book   FAQ: How do I know what to pack?   Answer: It's a common question, so let's tackle it.   Look at the weather forecast for the city where you are going. Consider the types of activities you plan to do. Remember, you can always buy, rent, or even borrow from someone when you get there in case you don't have the right items packed. For example, I bought an umbrella in Vietnam on my around-the-world trip. It was the best $3.00 spent because it kept me dry, shaded me from the sun, and was a wind protector for the next 12 weeks. Whether you pack an umbrella or not can depend on your destination. Traveling as light as possible will free you from many things you don't know about now. Even the most seasoned travelers have faced this question, so you are not alone. Today's destination: Glasgow, Scotland If you're interested in art and history, you won't be disappointed in Glasgow. The city has many museums and galleries, including the Hunterian Art Gallery, which is a must-see. You can also visit the Glasgow Cathedral, one of the most famous buildings in the city. For a taste of the outdoors, head to Pollok Country Park and the Burrell Collection, which are on the South Side, southwest of the center. You might need to take a city bus or two to get there, but it's well worth it. I took a train back to Glasgow, as the station was near the area I was heading next.       Today's Mistake- I had two nasty bee stings   Try to avoid a bee sting. or two, and remember that bees help pollinate our crops and gardens.   Today's Travel Advice- Limit yourself to carry one book at a time.   Connect with Dr. Travelbest   5Stepstosolotravel.com Drmarytravelbest.com Dr. Mary Travelbest Twitter Dr. Mary Travelbest Facebook Page Dr. Mary Travelbest Facebook Group Dr. Mary Travelbest Instagram Dr. Mary Travelbest Podcast Dr. Travelbest on TikTok Dr.Travelbest onYouTube

Lance, JB, George, and Johan break down an impressive ride from Mathieu van der Poel to win a World Championships after the Dutch superstar stormed clear of and held off a firepower-laden front group of Mads Pedersen, Tadej Pogačar, and Wout van Aert, despite a late-race crash, on a slick and extremely technical city center course in Glasgow Scotland. The crew covers how Van der Poel was able to turn around his summer with this win after a quiet Tour de France, the state of the rivalry between Van der Poel and Van Aert, as well as how Remco Evenepoel was unable to defend his title, and Pogačar putting in a strong ride to grab third place after a tough Tour de France. Before signing off, they discuss how the climate protests, which paused the race for over an hour, and rainy weather, which caused Van der Poel to crash late in the race, could have drastically altered the outcome. Ep#050 When the world took itself indoors and online during the pandemic, a unique virtual movement bubbled in the Nepali social media sphere, one that identified multitudes of Nepal's cultural objects in the unnatural glass cases of foreign museums and mobilized, in thousands, for their repatriation. For the first time, the Nepali masses collectively denounced cultural trafficking, pressuring withholders to give back what is rightfully theirs. In this episode, PEI's Khushi and Emiline delve into the obscure world of cultural heritage trafficking and its impact on communities, with a particular focus on Nepal. For an artist, not being able to create is lonely, for a dancer, not being able to move, is a daily death. Enter sister-in-law, Loni Landon, choreographer, dancer & movement director living in NYC who suggested to Mark to take some photographs of her community who were hurting as well. Together with Loni, Jacob Levy (Mark's producer) along with a host of other yes's, and over 140 dancers, a collaboration was born that transcends any photographic lens. Mark says it best: "In what had been my first moment of stillness, I discovered boundless humanity in their movement. This book is a testament to the power of their expression, in movement and stillness." MARK MANN is a renowned celebrity and advertising photographer who originally hails from the sun-soaked streets of Glasgow Scotland. The countless list of famous faces photographed in Mann's unique and recognizable style includes President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, Iggy Pop, Rihanna, Martin Scorcese, Jennifer Aniston, Stevie Wonder, Eartha Kitt, Robin Williams, Emma Stone, Bill Murray, Jessica Lange, Arthur Miller, Margot Robbie, Robert Redford, Queen Latifah, Michael Douglas, Gillian Anderson, Dave Chappelle, Olivia Wilde, Bradley Cooper, Willie Nelson, Sean Connery and many more. Always hungry for new subjects and challenges Mark has spearheaded his own projects over the years, one of which was creating a collection of LUCHA LIBRE wrestlers.  Where all the photographs were shot on a vintage Graflex camera using polaroid instant film. Most recently he was struck by the contrast of dancing bodies to his traditional portraits in a new body of work which culminated in a book titled Movement at The Still Point: an Ode to Dance published by Rizzoli International in March 2023.  Mark was born in Glasgow, where he lived until he was accepted to the prestigious photographic program at Manchester Polytechnic. Upon graduating Mark was immediately taken under the wing by innovative fashion photographers, Nick Knight and Miles Aldridge, where he learned the ropes and quickly built his own body of work. Three years later, Mark started shooting on his own and relocated to New York City where 26 years later he still lives with his wife and son, and their recently adopted Chihuahua, Shaq. https://movementatthestillpoint.com/ Follow @markmannphoto on Instagram Follow Joanne Carey on Instagram @westfieldschoolofdance And follow  “Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey wherever you listen to your podcasts. Video: Interview with Dr. Rupert Sheldrake (41:21) Stomach cancer cells halted with whole tomato extracts Sbarro Institute for Molecular Medicine at Temple University  October 10, 2022 The Mediterranean diet has become regarded as highly beneficial to overall health, maintaining ideal weight and a reduced risk of cancer plus many other chronic disease conditions. One of the staples of this diet is tomatoes, especially the low-acid varieties that are grown in Italy and its impact on cancer risk is quite interesting. Recent research by the Sbarro Institute for Molecular Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. has confirmed that two tomato cultivars grown in Southern Italy inhibit both malignant features and cellular growth in stomach cancer cells. For the study, whole tomato lipophilic extracts were analyzed for their ability to fight and diminish neoplastic features of stomach cancer cells. Both the Corbarino and San Marzano tomato varieties were found to inhibit the cloning behavior of malignant cancer cells as well as impede their growth. When tomato extracts were used on stomach cancer cells, key processes related to cell development, migration and proliferation were inhibited. The tomato extracts ultimately induced apoptosis, or cancer cell death in cancer cells. The study results were published in the Journal of Cellular Physiology. Significantly, the tomato extracts contributed to the movement of cancer cells away from the primary tumor, which resulted in their death. These anticancer effects weren't related to just one particular compound such as lycopene. Instead, the whole tomato seemed to contribute to its anticancer effects. Previous studies had suggested the carotenoid compound lycopene, which creates the orange-red color of tomatoes, is what fights cancer cells. While lycopene may still be a major factor, the entire tomato seemed to have a highly potent effect against cancer. Amino Acid Arginine Found As Effective As Drugs For Glucose Metabolism And DiabetesUniversity of Copenhagen & University of Cincinnati, October 9, 2022 If you suffer from type 2 diabetes, you may want to consider snacking on nuts to treat the condition. Supplementation with the amino acid arginine, commonly found in almonds and hazelnuts, could help to improve glucose metabolism by as much as 40%, according to new research in mice. The study shows that supplementation with the amino acid significantly improves glucose metabolism in both insulin-sensitive and insulin-resistant metabolisms. In new experiments, researchers from the University of Copenhagen working in collaboration with a research group at the University of Cincinnati, have demonstrated that the amino acid arginine, found in salmon, eggs, and nuts, improves glucose metabolism significantly in both lean (insulin-sensitive) and obese (insulin-resistant) mice.

”In fact, the amino acid is just as effective as several well-established drugs for type 2 diabetics,” says postdoc Christoffer Clemmensen.  As improbable as it may seem, the most important molecule in regulating the function of our arteries is nitric oxide (NO), a gas better known to us as an air pollutant. As synthesized in our arteries in tiny quantities, however, NO acts as a powerful mediator of vasodilation, the mechanism by which arteries dilate, when necessary, to lower our blood pressure and increase the flow of blood to tissues that need it. The principal source of our NO is arginine. This occurs via enzyme-catalyzed reactions that occur in endothelial cells, the thin layer of smooth, tightly “tiled” cells that line the inner walls of our arteries.

What researchers have found is that L-arginine potentiation of glucose-induced insulin secretion occurs independently of NO.

The researchers found that arginine improves glucose metabolism significantly in both lean (insulin-sensitive) and obese (insulin-resistant) mice. “We can also see that arginine increases the body's production of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), an intestinal hormone which plays an important role in regulating appetite and glucose metabolism, and which is therefore used in numerous drugs for treating type 2 diabetes,” said Clemmensen. Supplemental dosages of 6 to 8 grams L-Arginine per day are considered safe. Although available in food, for some applications such as stimulating secretion of growth hormone from the pituitary, it is not released quickly enough as the food is digested. The supplemental doses taken on an empty stomach will arrive at the blood-brain barrier without competition. Then growth hormone secretion will be stimulated which in turn can affect glucose metabolism Increasing green space could narrow lifespan gap between poorest and richest areas University of Glasgow (Scotland), October 19, 2022 Increasing the amount of natural (green and blue) space and private gardens has the potential to narrow the lifespan gap between those living in the most and least deprived areas, suggests research published online in the Journal of Epidemiology of Community Health. Each 10% increase in natural space is linked to a 7% fall in the incidence of early death among the under 65s, the findings indicate.  It's not clear if access to natural space might also be associated with differences in lifespan and protection against an earlier than expected death, so the researchers used the measure of “years of life lost,” or YLL for short, to try and find out. Natural space was defined as: woodland; scattered trees; scrub; marsh; heath; open water (inland or tidal); semi natural grassland; general natural areas, such as grass on sports pitches, roadside verges, and farmland; agriculture; hard bare ground, such as rocks, boulders, and cliffs; and soft bare ground, such as sand, soil, and foreshore. Areas with the highest income deprivation had the lowest average percentage cover of natural space and gardens (58.5%, 49–65%). People living in these areas had the highest levels of ill health. The study found that every 10% increase in natural space cover was associated with a 7% fall in the incidence of premature death.  Food for thought: Study finds link between depression and unhealthy diets Macquarie University, October 18, 2022 A Macquarie University study of 169 adults aged 17 to 35 found those eating a Western-style diet were more likely to have lower levels of kynurenic acid (KA)—a small molecule important to a number of bodily functions—and report higher levels of depression than those eating diets rich in fresh fruit and vegetables. Neuroscientist Dr. Edwin Lim and neuropsychologist Dr. Heather Francis published a paper on the findings of the study in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition. “Western-style diets high in fat, sugar and processed foods were already known to increase the risk of depression, but this is the first time a biological link involving the kynurenine pathway has been established,” Lim says. “People from the group eating an unhealthy diet had lower levels of KA and more severe symptoms of depression. This indicates that KA may help to protect us against depression.” The human body has a number of ways of producing important molecules and metabolites necessary to keep it functioning. One of these important molecules is tryptophan—an essential amino acid that the body can't make itself, that is found in foods like dairy products, poultry, bananas, oats, nuts and seeds. When tryptophan is broken down, it can produce either serotonin and melatonin—important for our mood and sleep—or it can be processed by the kynurenine pathway, which creates KA and other important metabolites linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Lim says this is the first time anyone has been able to show that Western-style diet has an effect on the way that tryptophan is metabolized in otherwise healthy young people. “There is, however, a clear relationship between an increased risk of depression and eating an unhealthy diet that is high in fat, sugar and processed foods, giving us all the incentive to eat more fresh vegetables and fruit,” she says. Study finds Mediterranean diet more effective cure for acid reflux than meds Feinstein Institute for Medical Research & New York Medical College, October 8, 2022 Sticking to a Mediterranean diet is just as effective at controlling reflux as medicines prescribed to millions of people each year, research suggests. Patients who ate primarily fish, vegetables and whole grains – and drank alkaline-heavy water – reported a greater reduction in their symptoms than those on proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), the small study found. Patients who ate fish, vegetables and whole grains reported a greater reduction in symptoms than those on proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), the study found Gastric, or oesophageal, reflux describes the traveling of stomach contents back up into the esophagus — a reversal of the normal flow. This is due to a poorly functioning lower esophageal sphincter, a ring of muscle at the top of the stomach that normally shuts to stop the contents of the stomach leaking out and up the foodpipe.  In the study, published in the journal JAMA Otolaryngology – experts compared 85 patients treated with PPIs with 99 who followed a 90 percent plant-based, Mediterranean-style diet, who also drank alkaline water. The diet consisted mostly of fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts and barely any dairy or meat including beef, chicken, fish, eggs and pork. People were also told to avoid known triggers of reflux, including coffee, tea, chocolate, fizzy drinks, greasy and fried food, spicy food, fatty food and alcohol. Patients on the plant-based diet also lost weight and needed fewer medicines for other conditions, including high blood pressure and high cholesterol. ‘The results we found show we are heading in the right direction to treating reflux without medication.'   Shorter sleep in later life linked to higher risk of multiple diseases University College London, October 19, 2022 Getting less than five hours of sleep in mid-to-late life could be linked to an increased risk of developing at least two chronic diseases, finds a new study led by UCL researchers. The research, published in PLOS Medicine, analyzed the impact of sleep duration on the health of more than 7,000 men and women at the ages of 50, 60 and 70, from the Whitehall II cohort study. Researchers examined the relationship between how long each participant slept for, mortality and whether they had been diagnosed with two or more chronic diseases(multimorbidity)—such as heart disease, cancer or diabetes—over the course of 25 years. People who reported getting five hours of sleep or less at age 50 were 20% more likely to have been diagnosed with a chronic disease and 40% more likely to be diagnosed with two or more chronic diseases over 25 years, compared to people who slept for up to seven hours. Additionally, sleeping for five hours or less at the age of 50, 60, and 70 was linked to a 30% to 40% increased risk of multimorbidity when compared with those who slept for up to seven hours. Researchers also found that sleep duration of five hours or less at age 50 was associated with 25% increased risk of mortality over the 25 years of follow-up—which can mainly be explained by the fact that short sleep duration increases the risk of chronic disease(s) that in turn increase the risk of death. “Our findings show that short sleep duration is also associated with multimorbidity. As part of the study, researchers also assessed whether sleeping for a long duration, of nine hours or more, affected health outcomes. There was no clear association between long sleep durations at age 50 and multimorbidity in healthy people. I invited Daily Maverick's Mark Heywood (himself an author, and also a well-known activist who has spent decades fighting for justice) to join me to talk about Young Mungo, the second novel written by brilliant Douglas Stuart. Stuart won the Booker Prize for his stunning debut, Shuggie Bain.I couldn't ask for a better guest than Mark. He has a deep love of literature and of reading - he really remains a student of literature - and he found the evocative writing of Stuart in both of his novels to be moving, and a brilliant exposition of important structural realities and injustices in Great Britain that endure beyond the 1980s. In this podcast episode, we delved into the major themes of these works (with a closer focus on Young Mungo). With Mark's intimate knowledge of the country where he spent time during his early years (he was schooled in Yorkshire), and of his beloved South Africa, he shone light on the many interesting layers beneath the shocking, dramatic and melancholic storylines of/in Young Mungo. The comparisons between Glasgow/Scotland, and our own community/communities here, are manifold. [Enjoy the podcast. Buy the book. Lower risk of dementia found among people with higher carotenoid levels National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Aging, May 6 2022.  An article appearing on in Neurology® reported an association between higher levels of several carotenoids and a lower risk of developing Alzheimer disease and other dementias during a 16 to 17-year average period. Carotenoids are a family of yellow to red plant pigments, including beta-carotene, which have an antioxidant effect.  Participants whose levels of the carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-cryptoxanthin were highest were likelier to develop dementia later in life than individuals with lower levels. Among those aged 65 and older upon enrollment, each approximate 15.4 micromole per liter increase in lutein and zeaxanthin was associated with a 7% decrease in dementia risk during follow-up. For beta-cryptoxanthin, each 8.6 micromole per liter increase was associated with a 14% reduction among those older than 45 at the beginning of the study.  “Further studies are needed to test whether adding these antioxidants can help protect the brain from dementia,” Dr Beydoun concluded.     A Mediterranean-style diet decreases the levels of the inflammatory marker called C-reactive protein University of Bologna (Italy), May 3, 2022    Sticking to a Mediterranean style diet decreases the levels of the inflammatory marker called C-reative protein, linked to ageing, finds the EU funded project NU-AGE.  Another positive effect of this diet was that the rate of bone loss in people with osteoporosis was reduced. Other parameters such as insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular health, digestive health and quality of life are yet to be analysed.   This is the first project that goes in such depths into the effects of the Mediterranean diet on health of elderly population. We are using the most powerful and advanced techniques including metabolomics, transcriptomics, genomics and the analysis of the gut microbiota to understand what effect, the Mediterranean style diet has on the population of over 65 years old" said prof. Claudio Franceschi, project coordinator from the University of Bologna, Italy.   The project was conducted in five European countries: France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK and involved 1142 participants. There are differences between men and women as well as among participants coming from the different countries. Volunteers from five countries differed in genetics, body composition, compliance to the study, response to diet, blood measurements, cytomegalovirus positivity and inflammatory parameters.       Resveratrol's blood pressure benefits may pass from mother to child University of Alberta and University of Adelaide, May 4, 2022   Hereditary hypertension may not pass the generations if the mother is given resveratrol supplements during pregnancy, suggests a new study with lab rats. Offspring of spontaneously hypertensive rats were found to be protected from elevated blood pressure once they reached adulthood if their mothers had received resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy.   “Maternal perinatal resveratrol supplementation prevented the onset of hypertension in adult offspring  and nitric oxide synthase inhibition normalized these blood pressure differences, suggesting improved nitric oxide bioavailability underlies the hemodynamic alterations,” wrote the researchers in the journal Hypertension .   The new study supplemented the diets of spontaneously hypertensive female rats with 0 or 4 g/kg diet of resveratrol from gestational day 0.5 until postnatal day 21. The offspring of these rats were then followed to adulthood.   Results showed that the adult offspring had significantly lower blood pressure than their mothers. Additional tests indicated that the potential blood pressure lowering activity observed in the resveratrol-fed animals was not linked to nitric oxide       Krill oil may be beneficial to muscle function and size in healthy people over the age of 65 University of Glasgow (Scotland), May 6, 2022   The study—led by the University of Glasgow's Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences (ICAMS) and published in Clinical Nutrition—found that krill oil supplementation of four grams per day could have beneficial effects on skeletal muscle function and size in this age group. The research found that healthy adult participants who had received daily krill oil supplementation for six months showed statistically and clinically significant increases in muscle function and size. Krill oil contains high concentrations of the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, which previous scientific studies have shown are important nutrients for the body as it ages. The randomized, double blind, controlled trial included 102 men and women all above 65 years of age. The participants were relatively inactive to engaging in less than one hour of self-reported exercise each week on entry to the study. The study found that participants receiving daily krill oil supplements showed the following improvements (from baseline) at the end of the study: Increase in thigh muscle strength (9.3%), grip strength (10.9%) and thigh muscle thickness (3.5%), relative to control group. Increase in red blood cell fatty acid profile for EPA 214%, DHA 36% and the omega-3 index 61%, relative to control group. Increased M-Wave of 17% (relative to the control group), which shows the excitability of muscle membranes.       New research shows cannabis flower is effective for treating fatigue University of New Mexico, May 6, 2022 Researchers at The University of New Mexico have used a mobile software app to measure the effects of consuming different types of common and commercially available cannabis flower products on fatigue levels in real-time. As part of the study, researchers showed that over 91 percent of people in the study sample that used cannabis flower to treat fatigue reported symptom improvement.  In their recent study, titled "The Effects of Consuming Cannabis Flower for Treatment of Fatigue," published in the journal Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids, the UNM researchers showed that using cannabis results in immediate improvement for feelings of fatigue in the majority of users. This was the first large-scale study to show that on average, people are likely to experience a 3.5 point improvement of feelings of fatigue on a 0-10 scale after combusting cannabis flower products The study was based on data from 3,922 cannabis self-administration sessions recorded by 1,224 people.  "One of the most surprising outcomes of this study is that cannabis, in general, yielded improvements in symptoms of fatigue, rather than just a subset of products, such as those with higher THC or CBD levels or products characterized as sativa rather than indica," said co-author and Associate Professor Sarah Stith. "We're excited to see real-world data and studies support the use of cannabinoids for helping individuals manage their fatigue and energy levels," says Tyler Dautrich. "This obviously has implications for patients experiencing fatigue as a symptom of their medical condition, but we also feel this can lead to healthier options to the current energy drink and supplement market."   Study: Coconut oil contains molecules found to be effective against coronavirus Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), May 2, 2022 New research out of the Philippines has uncovered yet another potentially viable candidate for treating and preventing the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) without the need for pharmaceuticals or vaccines, and it is lovingly known to many of our readers as coconut oil. Dr. Fabian M. Dayrit, PhD, from Ateneo de Manila University, along with the help of Dr. Mary T. Newport, MD, from Spring Hill Neonatology in Florida, looked at the known antiviral benefits of coconut oil to see if they may also apply to the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). Lauric acid (C12), along with its derivative monolaurin, has been known for many years to possess natural antiviral activity. A medium-chain fatty acid that comprises about 50 percent of coconut oil's makeup, lauric acid is widely recognized as a “super” nutrient, as is monolaurin, which is produced by the body's own enzymes upon ingestion of coconut oil. These nutrients work in tandem to disintegrate the “envelopes” that surround viruses, and this includes the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). These two nutrients can also inhibit late-stage maturation in the replicative cycle of viruses, as well as prevent the binding of viral proteins to the host cell membrane. Another antiviral compound found in coconut oil that also plays a protective role is capric acid (C10), along with its derivative monocaprin. Though it only makes up about seven percent of coconut oil, capric acid has shown effectiveness against HIV-1, which is important because evidence has emerged to suggest that the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) may contain HIV DNA. People are continuously working to help sustain this planet's life, and it is indeed great to have dialogues where concerns are shared and solutions are created and promoted.   Sadly, because some countries (especially the US) withdrew their commitments after pledging critically needed action, the climate movement – especially the Build Back Better Act – is moving slow...   We have all the evidence we need to take action. What's stopping you from standing up and moving forward?    We can't just wait and see what happens. We have to monitor and discuss what's happening right now!   There is nothing we can't do if we put our souls and minds into it.  COP26 is this year's crucial UN Climate Change Conference, which was hosted by the UK in Glasgow, Scotland, from 31 October until 12 November. The talks were organised under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an international treaty agreed at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 in order to tackle global warming and deal with its effects. It came into force in 1994. COP stands for “conference of the parties”, and is a summit where the 197 signatories to the UNFCCC – 196 countries and the EU – come together to make decisions on how to implement the treaty. This is the first COP since COP25, held in Madrid in 2019. The 26th UNFCCC conference, COP26 was originally due to take place in November 2020, but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.     Featured E2 Panelist:   Chris Bentley is Clean Energy Activist, CEO of Good Energy Guild in Louisville, Colorado. Marilyn Waite is the Climate and Clean Energy Finance Program Officer of the Hewlett Foundation in France, formerly in California. Laura Berland-Shane is the Vice President of Blue Planet Systems in Santa Monica, California.   Moderator: Ron Kamen is the CEO of EarthKind Energy Consulting in Rhinebeck, New York.     In this episode, Chris, Marilyn, and Laura engage in a discussion with regards to what has been happening in the movement towards saving the Earth. Here, they answer questions from the webinar attendees which concern what we can do next in order to save the planet and its people from complete destruction.     The most immediate climate issue that's on the table RIGHT NOW is passing the Build Back Better Act – the largest piece of climate legislation that's ever been proposed in the history of our country. That single bill will put us on track to meet – and even exceed – our goals, which is hugely important and necessary if we want life on this planet to continue. Multiply your climate impact by a factor of 1,000 with #CodeRedClimate & CodeRedCongress.com  (https://coderedcongress.com/)    Topics Covered:   01:57 – Webinar speakers introduce themselves before proceeding to shortly talk about what they do in relation to clean energy   04:35 – E2 members' perspectives on the current situation of the Earth in Glasgow – the good happenings, what drives those events, and also the things that hinder further progress    14:33 – Laura, Marilyn, and Chris share their sentiments about having people calling out the ‘elites' in the middle of this crisis, alongside the things we need to do in order to be able to move and take a step forward   21:04 – Is anybody talking about annual CO2 reduction emissions that can be tracked by the country as progress goes?   26:10 – Can the private sector and companies like IKEA and others in combination scale their efforts to have a meaningful fraction of what the nations need to do but are failing to do?   32:40 – Do you think the ESG community is making a significant impact in making things change?   36:08 – Are the attendees connected to fossil fuel interest? Is there any transparency on that front?   38:46 – Are the speakers aware of other trade associations that are also setting carbon reduction targets?   41:47 – Is there talk about the importance of the Build Back Better Act in the congress for the US to show commitment to the climate change action? Are other countries questioning the USA's commitment because of the congress being slow to pass this package?     45:11 – Is the philanthropic sector shifting away in regards to investments for the climate or are they more committed than ever?   48:27 – Does everyone have to buy carbon offsets to fly to the conference?   52:02 – A youth's perspective on everything that's going on in this movement.   54:34 – Where, when and how is environmental justice in equity integrated into the pledges with real solutions that will have equitable outcomes in climate justice for everybody?   56:33 – One major positive thing that can come out of this and what we should do next     Valuable SuperNovas:   “I think we need two things going forward. One is no more fossil fuel badges, and [two] we need to make sure that every delegation – especially of the rich countries – has a youth delegate.” – Marilyn Waite   “If we're going to continue having these international dialogues – I suppose are all about action – then we do need to see some really big changes in how this is done, who's at the table, whose voices are actually heard, because being just on the outside doesn't work.” – Marilyn Waite   “The youth can step out further and louder.” – Chris Bentley   “Only think about the next five years. What do you want to do for the next five years? Because five years from now, it's going to be completely different – new technologies, new opportunities. Where can you have the most impact?” – Chris Bentley   “We need everyone to be engaged and take action. There isn't anyone that cannot do anything.” – Marilyn Waite   “We've got to really monitor this by the minute. We can't just sit around and get back together in five years and see how we've progressed.” – Laura Berland-Shane     Connect with E2:   Website: www.e2.org Facebook: www.facebook.com/e2.org Twitter: www.twitter.com/e2org
