James 3:13-18 Godly wisdom is central to living a Christ-centered life. But there are all kinds of wisdom. How do we discern what is Godly wisdom, and what is worldly wisdom?
Philippians 2:1-11 NLT1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. 3 Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. • • •1. What does it take to live a Christ-centered life? In this episode of Light + Truth, John Piper turns to 1 Corinthians 3:1–4 to emphasize that true life in Christ is marked by growth in grace.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 New King James Version 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Dr. Brad Littlejohn of American Compass and author of "Called to Freedom" addresses the problems with the current way of thinking about freedom as having multiple choices. What if those choices are harmful, or even addictive? Is that freedom? (Littlejohn will be speaking on Tue, April 15 at the University of Northwestern.) Rick Lawrence, author of "Editing Jesus," calls us to not just go throught the rhythms of Holy Week, but to laser-focus in on Jesus, His words, and His actions. Do you tend to be Mary or Martha? “Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 Mary lived a Christ centered life by worshipping Jesus. 1. Be still: Martha was moving...Mary was still. 2. Be Close... Martha was Jesus adjacent...Mary was Jesus present. 3. Be Humble: Martha bowed up...Mary bowed down. 4. Be Receptive: Martha was doing and demanding...Mary was listening and receiving. 5. Be Teachable: Martha was troubled...Mary was teachable. This is the Christ centered life - A life in which Jesus is the One Thing Necessary. - “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19 - “The world and everything that people want in it are passing away, but the person who does what God wants lives forever.” 1 John 2:17 (NCV). - “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28.
