Karen serves on the board of directors for the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association and helps connect Christian writers and speakers with ministry opportunities. Karen shares how God redirected her life from mathematics into writing, teaching her to simply say “yes” and trust Him to equip her for the work He called her to do. She explains how that obedience led to multiple book contracts and a ministry of writing resources for families, military households, women, and believers seeking peace and purpose. The conversation highlights Karen's book Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front, which features one story per day from 1755 to 2012, focusing on women, families, and children during America's wars rather than the battles themselves. Karen shares remarkable stories of courage, including women who served as spies, supporters, fundraisers, and protectors during the American Revolution.TS and Karen also discuss 52 Weekly Devotions for Families Called to Serve, a devotional designed for military families, first responders, missionaries, and others who live lives of service. Karen offers practical encouragement for families facing deployment, separation, uncertainty, and hardship, reminding listeners to trust God and cherish the moments they have together. The episode concludes with a look at Growing a Peaceful Heart, Karen's devotional focused on inner peace, peace in relationships, and becoming peacemakers in the world. Karen closes by encouraging listeners to celebrate the freedoms we have and thank God for them.Featured GuestKaren Whiting Author, speaker, ministry connector, and board member/content coordinator with the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association.Books MentionedStories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front52 Weekly Devotions for Families Called to ServeGrowing a Peaceful HeartTopics CoveredFaith and obedience to God's calling Christian writing and ministry networking Military families and deployment encouragement Women's stories from American history Faith, courage, service, and peacemaking Trusting God during hardship and uncertainty Honoring veterans and listening to their storiesConnect with Karen WhitingVisit: KarenWhiting.comTagsChristian Podcast, Karen Whiting, Faith, Courage, Military Families, American History, Christian Author, Family Devotions, Service, Peacemaking, Trusting God, Kingdom Crossroads
This church podcast message powerfully centers on FAITH, FATHERHOOD, DISCIPLESHIP, and SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP, calling believers—especially fathers—to embrace their DIVINE ASSIGNMENT to lead their families in a way that POINTS CHILDREN TO JESUS CHRIST. It emphasizes that true fatherhood goes beyond provision and success, focusing instead on LOVE, GUIDANCE, CORRECTION, and being a GODLY EXAMPLE through daily actions. Fathers are encouraged to be VULNERABLE, to say “I LOVE YOU,” to admit “I WAS WRONG,” and to walk in HUMILITY and REPENTANCE, true strength is not emotional distance but a CHRIST-CENTERED LIFE. The message reinforces that children learn more from what we DO than what we SAY, highlighting the importance of modeling OBEDIENCE, HOLINESS, and a genuine RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. At the heart of the church's mission is REACHING THE LOST, RESTORING THE BROKEN, and REVIVING BELIEVERS, which begins in the home through intentional DISCIPLESHIP and building a strong SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION. Families are called to establish FAMILY DEVOTIONS and a FAMILY ALTAR, creating a sacred space where PRAYER, WORSHIP, and the WORD OF GOD shape the hearts of the next generation. This intentional dedication fosters a place of GOD'S PRESENCE, PEACE, PROTECTION, and PURPOSE, preparing children to stand firm in a fallen world and follow GOD'S CALLING wherever He leads. The message also underscores the importance of DEDICATION TO JESUS CHRIST above all else, reminding believers that faith must be lived out with PURPOSE, PASSION, and SACRIFICE. Serving in God's house is not just a duty but an act of WORSHIP, done wholeheartedly as unto the Lord, recognizing that every act of service contributes to advancing the KINGDOM OF GOD. Through PERSONAL DEVOTION, fathers receive the strength, WISDOM, and ANOINTING needed to lead effectively, as their authority flows from their intimate relationship with their HEAVENLY FATHER. Ultimately, this message is a call to ACTION—encouraging believers that it is NEVER TOO LATE to change, to STEP UP, and to build or rebuild a LEGACY OF FAITH. By choosing OBEDIENCE, CONSISTENCY, and SPIRITUAL INTENTIONALITY, families can create a lasting SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE marked by FAITH, COURAGE, REPENTANCE, and GENERATIONAL IMPACT, ensuring that the truth of God is passed down and that future generations are equipped to LIVE FOR CHRIST and GLORIFY GOD in all they do.

What if family devotions didn't have to be perfect to be effective? Adam and Cassie sit down with Carl Laferton to talk about what family Bible time really looks like in a normal home—and why the ordinary, imperfect moments are often where God is doing the most. If you've ever thought: “We should be doing family devotions…” “We tried, but it didn't go well…” “I don't feel equipped to lead my kids spiritually…” This episode is for you. Carl offers a refreshing, honest take:Family devotions are necessary—but they're not everything. They're one part of a much bigger picture: a home where the gospel shows up in everyday life. “Family Bible time is not sufficient for discipleship… but it is a necessary foundation.” Let this Mother's Day be a reminder that she deserves care, too. The family meal: We set the table not only with food but also with conversation and leadership. Efficiency is not the priority of the day. We must slow down, guide the conversation, even after a long day at work. Time at the family dinner table serves as a microcosm of life. A father must concern himself with worship, etiquette (showing kindness to others), and directed conversation, while remembering that it takes discernment to determine which hills he will die on when someone says something obtuse. Family meals and devotions should not be guilt trips. Keep them simple and focus on what you and your family enjoy most. Many husbands perform at the dinner table and during devotions to meet their wives' expectations and aspirations. Family Altar. Family Devotions. A relic of ages gone by. Sadly, for many people, a family gathering around the Word of God is almost non-existent. While fact stands true, it stands in direct opposition to the command of Deuteronomy 6:7-8. This command is given to all parents and places a vital importance on the time of family altar.
