As we rapidly approach the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, many school schedules are preparing to slow down or take a break in the warmer months, as some work schedules do too. With this in mind, please enjoy this special reissue of our 35th episode on work-life balance in cultures around the globe, “‘Work to live’ cultures, and ‘live to work’ cultures”, from October 2022. We here at ‘Oops, Your Culture’s Showing!’ will also be taking a break from releasing episodes over the coming months, as we soak up some sun (hopefully on a beach with a cold drink in one or both hands), travel, and time with family and friends. We’ll see you out there on the beach, dear listeners – and while getting those rays, it’s a perfect time to visit/revisit our entire back catalogue of episodes! Listening to this while eating lunch in the workplace? Fais attention (be careful!) because if you're in France, that's illegal. In this episode, Dean and Tom get to work contrasting how countries from France to Japan to the US value, and even legislate, work-life balance – and, bien sûr (of course!), how it's all grounded in culture. Plus, a Grammar Time segment somehow sneaks up on all of us…est-ce possible? (Here are the referenced NPR articles on the French lunch law and the Portuguese ‘right to disconnect' law, from June 2022.) ***Dean's book, “Business Beyond Borders: Stories, Tales, and Lessons Learned from Working in 100 Cultures Around the World”, IS OUT NOW – order it today! In this Monday Moments episode of the Kreatures of Habit Podcast, Michael Chernow shares a deeply personal reflection on hustle culture, success, and his biggest regret—missing the first two years of his son's life while chasing money and validation through nonstop work.He breaks down how that experience reshaped his priorities and led him to create his “triple eights” framework: eight hours of sleep, eight hours of focused work, and eight hours dedicated to life outside of work—family, relationships, and personal time. Michael explains how discipline, boundaries, and intentional scheduling make this balance not just possible, but sustainable. The episode dives into practical tools like time blocking, working in focused sprints, and creating structure in both your mornings and evenings to protect what matters most. His message is clear: success without balance isn't success and building a life you actually enjoy requires just as much intention as building a business. If you've been stuck in hustle mode, feeling burned out, or questioning what it's all for, this episode offers a simple, powerful framework to take your time and your life back.
"You have a responsibility to entertain," but when it comes to society, he doesn't view himself as a man with deep responsibilities to the public. "I know all the mountain ranges," he adds.

Episode Summary: Christians make up more than half of the American population, but culture is unraveling. The future of the West will not be decided by elections, but by whether the Church rises or retreats. In this episode, we're launching Occupy Till I Come with its author Darrow Miller and argue that the Great Commission includes discipling nations at the ground level of culture. The real crisis, Darrow contends, is the sacred/secular divide that has confined faith to Sundays and surrendered public life to rival worldviews.Let's recover the biblical and historical vision that once gave the West life and order. From the image of God as the foundation of dignity, justice, and human rights to the Reformation's role in shaping our current cultures. Then we get practical: unpacking vocation as worship, hospitality as discipleship, Scripture applied to public life, and courage under pressure. This is the hour to build. To occupy. To stand with clarity and courage. History is calling. The Church must answer.Key Endorsements:“The ideas in this book built our country, and they can restore it as well.” Dr. Josh Mulvihill“This book is Darrow Miller's magnum opus. It captures the urgency of our current civilizational moment, calling for decisive choices that lead either to renewal or decline.” Nancy PearceyWho is Disciple Nations Alliance (DNA)? Since 1997, DNA's mission has been to equip followers of Jesus around the globe with a biblical worldview, empowering them to build flourishing families, communities, and nations.

In this episode of US History Repeated, we continue our discussion with Pulitzer Prize–winning author David Garrow and just what Dr King's rise to national prominence cost him—and what his unfinished work still asks of us. In Part Two, of our discussion, we explore how the public perception of King changed as his message grew more challenging, why his outspoken opposition to the Vietnam War cost him political allies, and how his vision expanded to include economic justice through the Poor People's Campaign. We'll also confront the final days of his life and his assassination. Our thanks to historian and Pulitzer Prize–winning author David Garrow for helping us bring depth, nuance, and historical clarity to this conversation. David J. Let's talk about it…
It might sound crazy, but thinking and strategizing are often not the best ways to solve problems, make life decisions, connect with others or navigate the workplace. My guest Owen Marcus is a noted psychologist whose work applies the science of somatics to combat stress and the resulting dissociation with our body. Listen in to learn more about how to develop healthier life patterns, unlock your productivity and be better guided by your intuition to the choices that are best for you. The dissociation or stress becomes a default setting over time, making us feel more and more isolated from the people in our lives. Developing connection and quality relationships relies on establishing clear goals, boundaries and giving yourself agency. We are all intuitive, but have stopped listening to the somatic signals it give us. Addictions can arise from a lack of healthy connectivity Toxic masculinity and a culture of codependency in the workplace has had negative impacts for men and women. Communicating and connecting better can over come this and lead to higher performing teams. In this episode of US History Repeated, we've traced the early life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.—from the influences that shaped him, to the emergence of his leadership, and through the pivotal campaigns that helped bring about the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. These victories are often remembered as moments of triumph, but they were also the beginning of a far more complicated chapter in King's life and in the nation's story. There was a lot to cover and we decided to break this one into two parts. In Part Two, we'll step into that complexity. We'll explore how the public perception of King changed as his message grew more challenging, why his outspoken opposition to the Vietnam War cost him political allies, and how his vision expanded to include economic justice through the Poor People's Campaign. We'll also confront the final days of his life and his assassination. Our thanks to historian and Pulitzer Prize–winning author David Garrow for helping us bring depth, nuance, and historical clarity to this conversation. If today's episode showed how Dr. King rose to national prominence, the next will ask what it cost him—and what his unfinished work still asks of us. David J. It's the final episode of 2025, and the moms are here for a cozy, chaotic, and heartfelt catch-up just in time to close out the year. In this chat, Katie and Hallie swap stories from the trenches, laugh through the madness, and share the lessons and intentions they're carrying into the new year.✨ This Episode: • Hallie vs. Chicago Snow: Hallie gives us the real talk on parenting in freezing temps. Bundling kids, battling ice , and trying to maintain sanity in Midwest winter? It's HARD raising kids in the cold!• Katie's Disneyland First-Timer Adventure: Katie took her girls to Disneyland for the very first time—and yes, she cried (in a very mom-at-Disney way). She also opens up about finally discovering the root of her youngest daughter's months of fussiness… ALLERGIES. A reminder to trust your gut, ask questions, and always advocate for your babies. She explains what is going on!• 2025 Year in Review: The moms reflect on what this whirlwind year taught them—about themselves, career and work, and in their motherhood journeys. Growth, grace, grit… and a whole lot of fun.Thank you for being part of our little community this year. New episodes return January 2026! Until then, happy holidays and hang in there, mamas. Send me a Text Message! In this episode, Mike returns to the heartbeat of Inner Wealth — the Creation Process. He walks through the three energetic pillars of manifestation (clarity, certainty, and commitment), and how these apply to every part of life: business, relationships, money, health, and purpose. This is more than a teaching — it's an invitation to shift from passive wishing to full-body embodiment, and it's the exact framework that drives transformation inside the Choose Your Destiny Live Intensive.Key TakeawaysClarity Is Power — Most People Just Don't Know What They Want Until you can name it, you'll keep defaulting to what's familiar or convenient.Certainty Is a Nervous System Frequency, Not a Thought You must feel it in your body, not just hope for it in your mind.Commitment Means Embodiment, Not Effort You don't get what you want by force — you get it by becoming a match for it and letting it in.Resistance Lives in the Body — and It Must Be Cleared Meditation, shadow work, and somatic tools remove the blocks to receiving. When Clarity and Certainty Align, Life Delivers With Ease It's not magic — it's alignment. And the process works every single time.Notable Quotes“The reason that most people don't have what they want is because they don't know what they want.”“Certainty is a feeling in your body. It's a belief, it's a knowing, it's an expectation that the level of clarity will show up.”“Impatience is fear. Wherever you're impatient, it's because there's some level of insecurity, inadequacy, or insignificance inside of you.”“Commitment is more about receiving than it is creating. It's in receiving more than it is struggling to get it.”“In order to get what you want, you need to expect it.”Call to Action

On today's episode, Dr. Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, talks with ERLC Interim President Dr. Gary Hollingsworth. They discuss the unique challenges Alabama Baptists are facing from supporting bi-vocational pastors to navigating pressing cultural issues such as abortion. In this episode of the Modern Man Podcast, host Ted Phaeton speaks with Kason Morris, a strategist and author, about the importance of skills, story, and strategy in designing a fulfilling life and career. They discuss the concept of life work design, the role of AI as a partner in the workplace, and the significance of alignment over achievement. Kason shares insights on reinventing one's identity beyond job titles, emphasizing the need for adaptability and community support in personal growth. The conversation concludes with reflections on legacy and the lessons we can impart to future generations. Takeaways Your strategy should be driven by who you are as a person. Skills, story, and strategy are essential for personal branding. Work should be a tool that funds and fuels your life. AI is a partner that can enhance human capabilities. Balance in work and life is a false dichotomy. Alignment with personal values leads to fulfillment. Community and accountability are crucial for personal growth. Unlearning outdated beliefs is necessary for progress. Design a life you never want to escape from. Legacy is about living purposefully and impacting others. In today's story we explore what it's like to be on the autistic spectrum, and more specifically, how a later life diagnosis can totally change the way you view the world and yourself. Aurelie, our storyteller today, was an autism expert, a clinical psychologist who had trained with some of the premier autism experts in the country…yet she didn't discover her own autism until she was 40 years old. This episode explores why women on the spectrum are so often missed, how women on the autistic spectrum are so often masters of masking, which means imitating the mannerisms and behaviors of neurotypical people, thus allowing them to both fit in and also to be left hiding in plain sight.
