Today's interview with Dr. Adi Jaffe is incredibly timely because September is named as the National Recovery Month by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Adi Jaffe is the author of The Abstinence Myth and the founder of the IGNTD Podcast along with his wife, Sophie Jaffe, and is an expert on addiction. He often talks about the pervasive shame that we have in the traditional treatment models of addiction and the problem with the black-and-white labels that we apply upon it. He says the thing about addiction and the reasons we become addicted, is that they are actually pervasive to all of us. There are times where we all want to escape the feelings of our life, and it is usually that desire that triggers any form of addiction in the first place.   This conversation was deep, insightful, and it breaks all the rules of how we traditionally talk about addiction and recovery! Dr. Jaffe tells us his deeply personal story about his own addiction and recovery, explains why traditional recovery models are failing us, and provides insight around the myth of abstinence. He explains how to actually get on the path of recovery without abstinence, how to not externalize emotions and better manage our feelings, the biological and environmental components to addiction and how we can actually alter them for the better, and much, much more! This episode is jam-packed with so much valuable information that is incredibly important, regardless of where you are in life!   Key Takeaways: [1:25] About today's guest and episode! Today I had the great pleasure of speaking with none other than Cailen Ascher.Cailen is THE queen of helping you set up your life and business so you make full-time income working just 3 days per week (or… however many days and hours best suit you). But our conversation took so many fun and fascinating twists and turns. She shared that it was SO helpful for her in the “early days” of her business (the first few years) to learn as MUCH as she possibly could. She took tons of courses and absorbed as much info as possible, including B-School and Creating Fame. Cailen also talked about working as a freelancer and having “bridge jobs,” which is basically another way of saying… temporary work you do while you’re building up your future ideal income from your creative pursuits or business. But at some point, she recognized that in order to make a SHIFT, it was necessary to hire more support. She decided to work with Nisha Moodley as a coach, and making that decision and investment was the turning point for her business. We also talked about…. How she uses The Desire Map every year to get clear on how she wants to feel FIRST, and then set intentions based on those feelings after. Why meditation and mindset work is SO important to success, and how “We think we’re accomplishing something by worrying.” #brilliant The power of taking INSPIRED action instead of just slogging through work. Connecting with your FUTURE SELF to check in on big decisions, possible freak outs, or what to do when you’re feeling ANTSY about work, etc. And, of course, we talked about some of the most common negative beliefs around money… namely, that working more or harder equates to earning more. Can you relate? Cailen has a kick ass 3 Day Work Week Template you can download at cailenascher.com. Personal Development

In todays show David Ralph discusses the lack of personal development that he sees in the listeners to the show that he speaks to. David, talks to listeners across the world and when he asks them "So how many books have you read this month?" more often than not gets told "Nah, I dont like reading books to be honest" So where is the desire to find out more knowledge and become better at the thing that you can do better than most? Where are you getting the information from that can make you a category of one in your life, and be saught out by clients from across the world. 5 Reasons Why You Should Invest in Personal Development Personal development is more than just working on talents you already have: it's about growing, becoming more aware, and gaining valuable abilities that you can use to make an impact in this world. I always put it like this: If you're not growing, you're dying. Sounds extreme, doesn't it? But it's so true. If you're not learning new skills and working on yourself as a person, life can get boring! Personally, I'm committed to take at least one course/ training program each year – whether an in person event or online program/ webinar. This has helped me make quantum leaps in my life, relationships and business. For example, this year, I took Tony Robbins' Unleash the Power Within (highly recommend going!), Marie Forleo's B-School, Laura Roeder's Creating Fame, The Art of Sales & Marketing training etc. Today I want all of you to do one thing for yourself. For your growth and development. For your future. Disclaimer: this may mean going outside. But that's okay, because you're ready to do this! You deserve to be your best self, always. It's time to make an investment in yourself that will take you to the next level. Here are my top reasons why you should invest in your personal development: 1.You'll make important new connections. Follow my ABC rule for networking and you'll find yourself happier, more approachable, and with more opportunities faster than you can blink an eye: Always Be Connecting. Because growing your network means more than finding new people who can help you get where you want to go. Your network is your lifeline. It's your relationships, your opportunities, and a support system that you can fall back on when times are tough. 2. You'll gain confidence. The more skills you have, the more confident you'll become. You'll have more to talk about when you meet others, and you'll become more certain of your own abilities and strengths. Own your greatness and live the exciting life that you deserve! 3. You'll learn new things and grow as a person. Personal development should be something you take on for yourself. It's more than just an investment in your career, it's an investment in your growth, awareness, and identity. Every time I attend a training, I always get new ideas and inspiration. 4. You'll gain marketable skills. Some great skills for you to learn regardless of your industry: photoshop, HTML, WordPress, Adwords, and advanced Excel. Other soft skills you gain by investing in personal development include communication, presentation, and decision making skills. They stand out to employers and could separate you from the hundreds of other candidates. 5. You'll be seen as someone who takes initiative and curious to make things better. Though it shouldn't be the primary reason why you engage in personal development, a lot of the courses, classes, and conferences you attend can be translated into experience on your resume. A well-rounded candidate has more than experience in their industry – they excel because they can draw on perspectives and learning that they have gained while developing themselves. My top tip for finding relevant and interesting events: visit www.eventbrite.com. Look for conferences, courses, workshops, and seminars that fit your interests, then take a leap and sign up! Or ask your friends and colleagues for recommendations. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. What courses/ programs/ training have you taken that transformed your life? What do you recommend and why? What is one new training you are committed to taking?

Laura Roeder is the founder of Edgar, a new social media automation tool designed to prevent updates from going to waste. Laura began her entrepreneurial journey at the age of 22, when she quit a design job and decided to launch her first business. Since then, she founded B-School with Marie Forleo, has run successful courses of her own such as Creating Fame and Social Media Marketer; and she was named a Top 100 Entrepreneur under 30, in America. Edgar was created out of a need Laura had in her own business to more effectively manage social media – and so in 2014, Laura pivoted her business to dive into the SaaS world. Since launching in mid-2014, Edgar has hit over $150,000 in monthly recurring revenue, all the while bootstrapping the entire way. More than 3,000 customers are now using Edgar to help manage their social media. Playing Small Moment Laura always felt self-conscious, because she looked too young. She would go to various chamber of commerce events where she did not typically meet anyone close to her own age. Laura always felt like she stuck out. She attended a speed-coaching program at a conference where the coach laid into her and picked her apart – she needed to change her clothes and her voice. Eventually, Laura realized she had lived through her biggest fear and was not changed by it; she had survived. The Wake Up Call When Laura first moved to LA, she was doing social media consulting and helped her friend – an actor on Heroes – create a presence on social media. She walked home after a brainstorming meeting, realizing she didn’t fit into the mold she had created for that route. Style of Leadership Laura leads by giving ownership and letting her team truly own their projects. Most people start out by delegating but you’re still doing a lot. The way Laura leads, she has someone in charge of Customer Service and that person gets to make all the calls for their domain. What Are You Excited About? Laura is excited about Edgar, which launched a year ago. Edgar has grown super fast and they are now hiring a bunch of people. Since Edgar’s launch in mid-2014, their remote team has grown to more than a dozen people, they’ve hit more than $150,000 in monthly recurring revenue, AND bootstrapped the entire way. They’re now happily providing social solutions to more than 3,000 customers; Rules of Success as one of them.  To check out further details and to reach out to her directly visit MeetEdgar.comRulesofSuccess.com is your source for all links to iTunes, direct streaming and our blog. Laura Roeder - Social media is for real. To be honest, I wasn't a believer. I think social media often times just adds to the noise. But after speaking with our guest this week, I realized that what I think doesn't really matter. Social media is here and it's a necessity for any business these days. Even more importantly is the specific way you interact on social media, what you share, how you share it, and what your strategy is. Love it or hate it, it's time to step up your social media game. This week we interview entrepreneur and social media expert, Laura Roeder.  Laura is a social media marketing expert who teaches small businesses how to become well-known and claim their brands online. She is the creator of LKR Social Media Marketer and Creating Fame, and is also the author ofFacebook Fame: The Facebook Marketing Bible For The Small Business. In 2011, Laura Roeder was honored at The White House as one of the top 100 entrepreneurs under the age of 30. "You're probably not going to have new information tomorrow that you don't have today - so just get started. You don't have any assurances it's going to turn out well, but you have to keep moving forward." - Laura Roeder Quotes from Laura:  What we learn in this episode: Laura makes Chris a believer in social media - why? How to get over the fear of being "too young" in business and entrepreneurship. Laura is a social media marketing expert who teaches small businesses how to become well-known and claim their brand online. Two years ago, Laura was a web designer, working from home earning just shy of $100,000. Today, her company is doing just over $1M, she has four employees, and she runs her company while traveling the world. Suffice to say, she’s got a lot more freedom (and money) today than she did two years ago – thanks largely to a shift in her strategy and the use of Infusionsoft. Thank you so much for listening! Laura discussed the "big idea" which is necessary for creating fame, and how to go about getting out there into your marketplace even when you're starting from scratch. In this episode, you'll learn about: The importance of picking a kind of content to focus on (and how this can save you a lot of needless legwork, too) How to arrive at your "big idea" which will separate you from your competition. Her recommendation for post frequency How do you pitch a guest post do a larger blog (even if you feel like you're a bit of a nobody in comparison) How to get interviews (and how Laura got herself onto my show ;) ) Some of the changes Laura is making to allow her to continue to run her business while traveling for a year To learn all the details of Laura's strategy for creating fame, check out...
