In this episode, you'll get a front-row seat to the topics and teachings he focuses on when working with some of the top golfers in the world. Specifically, you'll learn more about the importance of creating a golf identity and crafting a golf identity statement, as well as the value of cultivating a neutral mindset. You'll also discover the ultimate goal-setting blueprint, learn the importance of having both values and standards to achieve your goals, and so much more. Get your pencils ready and start listening. Use Hypnosis to Shoot Lower Scores: Are you curious to learn how hypnosis can help you shoot lower scores? Snag my free hypnosis audio recording today to help you play your best round tomorrow. More About Dr. Novetsky Dr. Novetsky is the sport psychology and mental toughness coach for numerous collegiate, high school, and club-level teams in various sports across Michigan and the United States. He coaches numerous individual professional, collegiate, and youth athletes in his Birmingham, MI office and virtually to help them achieve their personal championships. Learn more about and work with him here. Key Takeaways: Having a strong set of standards and values helps athletes live and play in the present with a neutral mindset in the face of pressure and adversity. Emotional resilience is fostered by thinking more neutrally, being curious, thinking tactically, and focusing on the smartest next move. Identity statements are short sentences or paragraphs that athletes read daily to align their behavior and choices with the person they want to become. Patience is a common challenge for athletes, especially in a society that values instant gratification. It is important to focus on the process and evaluate oneself based on effort, attitude, preparation, and discipline. Fear of success can stem from the expectations of others and the pressure to consistently perform at a high level. Setting new goals and focusing on growth can help alleviate this fear. A growth mindset is crucial for athletes to continue improving. It involves being open to growth, embracing challenges, and learning from setbacks. Detaching one's identity from their score on the golf course is essential for maintaining a healthy mindset. Developing a mental workout routine away from the course can greatly improve performance. Self-evaluation is an important tool for bouncing back from poor performances. It is important for golfers to separate their golf identity from their personal identity. They should remember that golf is just one aspect of their life and not let their performance on the course define their self-worth. Key Quotes: "Having a strong set of standards and values that you always fall back on helps you to live and play in the present with a neutral mindset in the face of pressure and adversity." "We need to think more neutrally, be curious, think tactically, think effectively, think productively." "Your behavior or your choices or the way you speak to yourself consistent with the person you want to be?" "What are the ingredients and recipe you need to make that plate happen?" On this episode of the Healthy, Wealthy, and Smart podcast, Dr. Jennifer Stevens-Lapsley and Dr. Kory Zimney, underscored the crucial role clinicians play in influencing the APTA research agenda. They emphasized that clinicians should be invested in the research agenda as it directly impacts their practice and the well-being of their patients. Here are key takeaways from the episode on how clinicians can actively contribute to the APTA research agenda: 1. Data Collection: Clinicians are encouraged to start gathering outcomes data in their clinical settings. This data serves as a valuable resource for addressing research inquiries and refining clinical practices. By systematically collecting data on patient outcomes, clinicians can bolster the evidence base, guiding decision-making at both individual patient levels and broader research endeavors. 2. Questioning: Clinicians are uniquely positioned to identify knowledge gaps and areas requiring further research. By posing questions based on their clinical experiences, clinicians can help shape research priorities and initiate meaningful research projects. Cultivating a curious mindset can lead to the formulation of research questions that tackle real-world clinical challenges. 3. Collaboration with Researchers: Collaboration between clinicians and researchers is pivotal for advancing the field of physical therapy. Clinicians can collaborate with researchers by sharing clinical insights, participating in research studies, and engaging in discussions on research findings. Through joint efforts, clinicians and researchers can ensure that research remains relevant, practical, and directly applicable to clinical settings. 4. Networking and Relationship Building: Clinicians are urged to network with researchers, academic institutions, and other healthcare professionals to foster collaborations and knowledge exchange. Establishing relationships with researchers can provide clinicians with opportunities to contribute to research projects, access resources, and stay abreast of the latest research developments in physical therapy. 5. Promoting Evidence-Based Practice: Physical therapists are an evidence-based profession who rely on research to inform their clinical interventions. By actively engaging with the APTA research agenda and participating in research endeavors, clinicians can enhance the quality of care they deliver and contribute to the advancement of the profession. The mysterious capacity of human beings to express life, to heal, to grow, to awaken, and to evolve completely fascinates me. Using my hands, my heart, and my mind to facilitate healing is a true privilege and I am grateful for every patient and every student I have the opportunity to work with. I began my higher education with a degree in biochemistry. While working in the field of medical diagnostic research and development, I looked into a test tube one day and realized I would not find the answers to my queries about life and humanity therein. I had to work with actual people, their bodies, minds, and spirits. Studying chiropractic at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic gave me an excellent medical education, and the skills to amplify the natural healing ability of the body through spinal evaluation and adjustment. I augmented that education with specialized training in the Gonstead Chiropractic Technique which involves in-depth bio-mechanical analysis and specific, directional adjusting techniques for optimum effectiveness and efficiency of healing. I started my chiropractic practice in 1990 and soon thereafter began to study Zero Balancing as well. Zero Balancing is a unique, hands-on, bodywork system of healing. It combines the Western view of medicine and science from the field of osteopathy with Eastern concepts of energy and healing from the field of acupuncture. ZB affects the whole person (body, mind, and spirit) by providing both structural therapy and energy medicine simultaneously, and thereby accessing the body's “interoceptive” mechanism of conscious awareness, self-referencing, and physical, as well as psychoemotional, resilience. It is life changing for patient and practitioner. One of my strongest passions is teaching Zero Balancing to other healthcare providers and anyone who wants to learn about the power of conscious touch and energy medicine. I am on the faculty of the Zero Balancing Health Association and teach classes internationally.
