I've heard it described as playing a Stephen King novel, and I couldn't agree more. The game goes as far as to have you play AS a writer (Alan Wake), and while you don't write anything yourself, you stumble through a horror movie set in a novel, finding pages of a manuscript that keep the plot moving as you fight enemies with guns or flashlights. Or should I say guns AND flashlights. Combat isn't its strong suit, but Alan Wake tells a HELL of a story. The Al to my Barry, ye olde Bradley McCue, joins me on the show this week. He was as stoked to jump into this game as I was, and now that we're both done our first playthrough, we have a lot to say about this one. The entire game is 100% story focused, so if you've read this far (does anyone read these?), know that spoilers are incoming. And before we wake Alan, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk the indie game Ball X Pit, the best games to play while high, and will we ever see Sega Saturn or Dreamcast games on Nintendo Switch Online?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'!! This one features 3 narrative heavy horror games: Eternal Darkness, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Heavy Rain.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Silent Hill -pääsarjan pelejä on julkaistu tähän mennessä yhteensä kahdeksan, joista viimeisin SIlent Hill f kuluvana syksynä. Sarjan seuraava osa Resident Evil: Requiem julkaistaan ensi vuonna. Remedy-pelitalon Alan Wake ja Control -pelien lisäksi oululainen Korpi Games on pian julkaisemassa Shifting Chambers -peliään, jossa seikkaillaan taskulampun kajossa pimeässä alati muuttuvassa kauhukartanossa.

Fred is still plunging into Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, Jake takes on Ghost of Yotei, and we share some awesome listener feedback about self-care and making sure we're not burning the candle at both ends. Thanks to everyone for understanding our short break! In news, Battlefield 6 physical copies have leaked ahead of release, which is surprising for two reasons — hardly anyone buys physical games anymore, and most don't actually contain the game on the disc. This one does, though online is still required even for the campaign. October's PS Plus Essential lineup features Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon. Rumors are swirling that Xbox might not release a next-gen console at all, which could leave PlayStation unmatched when the PS6 eventually launches. There's also talk of a new DualSense controller with a removable battery, and reports that EA may be going private amid a potential $50 billion buyout. Short, spooky, and full of PlayStation talk.

TFIYE Ep #198 Spooky Circus & The RR (Grok 3 Summarization Transcript) The Fork In Your Ear Podcast Episode Summary – July 19, 2025 **Fork in Your Ear Podcast Summary – Episode Recorded August 9, 2025** In this lively episode, hosts Tim K.A. Trotter and Nate Foo dive into a mix of personal anecdotes, pop culture, gaming, and tech developments, delivering their signature blend of humor and insight. **Life Updates**: Tim shares his recent battle with a prolonged illness that left him bedridden for days, reflecting on the frustration of wanting to game or watch TV but being too sick to enjoy it. He also recounts a memorable date with his wife at a “spooky circus” by Cirque Italia, a raunchy, R-rated spectacle with sword-swallowing and trapeze acts. Another highlight was their visit to the iconic Double R Cafe in North Bend, Washington, famous from *Twin Peaks* and *Alan Wake*. Nate discusses surviving Southern California's triple-digit heat and a past AC failure, while both hosts lament aging and slower recovery times. **Technology**: The conversation turns to AI advancements, focusing on Open AI's ChatGPT-5, which promises enhanced coding capabilities but has faced criticism for underperforming and ethical concerns like cloning itself. Tim praises Grok's new image and video generation features, showcasing its ability to create lifelike animations from single images, though it struggles with consistency in content moderation. They speculate on AI's future in entertainment, predicting a shift toward user-generated, high-quality content. **Gaming**: The hosts discuss the passing of Bethesda's Julian LaFay, the “father of the Elder Scrolls series,” and Sony's move toward multi-platform game releases, with PlayStation titles like *Helldivers 2* coming to Xbox and Switch. They explore the evolving console wars, noting Nintendo's dominance in the portable market and the trend of companies like Capcom making games available across all platforms. Tim shares an encounter with a 65-year-old gamer playing a Switch 2, highlighting Nintendo's broad appeal. **Entertainment**: Tim gushes about *Fantastic Four: First Steps*, praising its 1960s aesthetic and faithful adaptation of the comics, though he's puzzled by its lack of connection to the MCU's 616 universe. The upcoming *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* sparks excitement with its practical stunt work and return to a street-level story featuring villains like Mr. Negative and the Punisher. The *King of the Hill* revival on Hulu is a standout, with its time-jump approach and aged characters feeling fresh yet nostalgic, though some voice acting changes are jarring. *K-Pop Demon Hunters* on Netflix surprises both hosts with its infectious music and charm, becoming a family favorite. Other highlights include *Twisted Metal*'s absurd fun, *Dexter: Resurrection*'s gripping return, and the news of Gina Carano's settlement with Disney over her *Mandalorian* firing. The episode wraps with Tim's enthusiasm for *Donkey Kong: Banana Bonanza*'s emotional ending and a nod to upcoming gaming plans, despite technical hiccups during recording. A heartfelt shoutout goes to friend Greg Smith, whose grandmother is in the hospital, urging listeners to send positive vibes. **Runtime**: Just under 3 hours. **Sign-off**: “Get forked!” Join The Fork Family On Discord: https://discord.gg/CXrFKxR8uA Find all our stuff at Remember to give us a review on iTunes or wherever you downloaded this podcast from. Fast Baked Chicken or video game? This acronym could stand for anything, but what it truly stands for is Federal Bureau of Control. Developed and published by Remedy Entertainment, this is simultaneously the debut multiplayer first-person shooter developed by the studio and also the first game published by them. That said, these folks are no strangers to making games and have previously brought you the likes of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and (surprise!) Control. Set six years after the events of that single-player title, the developers have allegedly crafted this game to stand on its own. Will it be a salve for those feeling fatigue with the genre or is multiplayer not an illness this studio can cure? Tom and Chris have ventured out to contain an extradimensional incursion... will you join them? What do you think? I've written a new action horror RPG called Labyrinth Signal. It's a d20-based system inspired by survival horror games like Silent Hill and Alan Wake. It uses an innovative combo meter mechanic for combat that adds tactical depth to fighting monsters and mitigates the swinginess of normal d20 fights. I

May Book Club wraps up with Nick and Josh discussing the DLC releases, The Signal and The Writer (both 10x better than episode 6 of the base game). David Lynch's Dark Suburban MasterpieceJoin hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell with special guests Andy Nelson and Pete Wright as they dive into David Lynch's controversial classic Blue Velvet (1986), a film that exposed the dark underbelly beneath idyllic small-town America. When college student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) discovers a severed ear in a field, he's drawn into a twisted mystery involving nightclub singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) and the terrifying Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper). The hosts explore how Lynch creates a jarring contrast between 1950s suburban aesthetics and the disturbing criminal world that exists beneath the surface. The panel discusses how Blue Velvet serves as Lynch's most accessible work while still containing his signature surrealism. Unlike his later films that abandon traditional narrative structure, Blue Velvet follows a relatively straightforward detective story, making it an excellent entry point for viewers new to Lynch's filmography. The film's lasting impact can be seen in later works like Twin Peaks, which further developed many of the themes and visual styles first explored here.Dennis Hopper's unhinged performance as Frank Booth remains one of cinema's most memorable villains, with the hosts noting how Hopper reportedly told Lynch, "I am Frank Booth," when accepting the role that many actors had turned down due to its disturbing nature.Topics Discussed:The film's juxtaposition of 1950s idealism with 1980s darknessLynch's signature visual style and sound design techniquesThe voyeuristic themes and Jeffrey's seduction by darknessIsabella Rossellini's haunting performance as Dorothy VallensHow Blue Velvet compares to Lynch's other worksThe famous "Pabst Blue Ribbon" sceneLynch's influence on subsequent filmmakers and mediaEach host's rating of the film (on a scale of Pabst Blue Ribbons)The episode concludes with deep-cut recommendations including The Reflecting Skin (1990), John Cheever's short story "The Swimmer," and the video games Alan Wake and Control - all works that share thematic or stylistic elements with Lynch's universe.Whether you're a Lynch devotee or curious newcomer, this episode offers fascinating insights into a film that continues to disturb and captivate audiences over three decades after its release. --We couldn't do this without your support of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast! In 1996, the world of video gaming was forever changed by the release of Capcom's “survival horror” masterwork “Resident Evil” on the Sony PlayStation. In fact, the term “survival horror”, now a common-place name for a subgenre of horror gaming, was originated by “Resident Evil”.Survival horror itself can be defined as a genre of video games with a focus on surviving in a threatening, often supernatural or disturbing environment, with an emphasis on a more vulnerable central character, tension, limited resources and combat as a last resort.Sound like a vast number of great horror games that have come since the original “Resident Evil”?Whether it's the steeped in atmospheric dread of the “Silent Hill” franchise, the cosmic Lovecraftian terror of the “Dead Space” games, the nerve-frying corridors of the “Amnesia” series or the Stephen King-esque small town horror of “Alan Wake” and its sequel, the influence of “Resident Evil” has played a pivotal role in forming horror gaming. In this episode I am joined by the stars of the most recent “Resident Evil” games. They have taken the three most iconic characters of the franchise and not only made them their own, but also brought real gravity and psychological complexity that has helped redefine the series and what we thought we could expect from it.Welcome Nicole Tompkins who plays Jill Valentine in the “Resident Evil 3” reimaging and the animated film “Resident Evil: Death Island” as well as Daniela Dimitrescu and Elena in “Resident Evil Village”, Jeff Schine who plays Carlos in the “Resident Evil 3” reimagining and Chris Redfield in “Resident Evil Village” and Nick Apostolides who plays Leon Kennedy in the reimagining's of “Resident Evil 2” and “Resident Evil 4” as well as the TV mini-series “Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness”.We discuss their approaches to adapting these legacy characters, the indelible imprint of the franchise, how it's not as different from film acting as some may think, as well as their most requested line readings. Let's explore the dangers of Raccoon City and beyond, survive a world of endless zombies and undead Doberman's, expose shadowy secret evil organizations and visit a village of crazed occultist with Nicole Tompkins, Jeff Schine and Nick Apostolides! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
