"Look, his mother was all over the shop, I had to ring Paschal, Spike, Craig O'Brien, right, and Big Niall Kennedy, ‘Do us a favour lads, will you explain to his mother, he's not going to be in an intensive care unit after the fight this weekend'." Joining us today on The Rocky Road are father-and-son duo Roddy and Podge Collins. Podge is now a professional boxer, making his debut in October when he knocked out Gianluca Di Florio in the first round at the National Stadium. He talks about his strange lack of nerves ahead of and during the battle while Roddy, a well-known football manager, was aghast at that as he saw so many big-name players turning to jelly on the big occasion. Together they talk us through the famous fighting family's history, brother Steve's (or Stephen's) major title victories, memories from Las Vegas to Millstreet and the long-term goal for Podge's career as he embarks on a boxing journey with uncle Paschal by his side as trainer/manager. He also talks about how boxing has changed his life after a year in which he's lost 6st and shed his unhappy side to find joy in the roughest, toughest sport there is. Brought to you from the Celtic Warriors Gym, its walls adorned with photographs of boxing legends from Muhammad Ali to Marvin Hagler, Roddy may have made his name in the beautiful game but this is a story of the fight business like no other. Podge returns on Friday night at the Red Cow Hotel's Warehouse for fight No 2 on a card promoted by Jay Byrne, a fight fixer Roddy insists must be supported in his determination to boost Irish boxing and its combatants. "These were very colonized institutions that I feel brainwashed me. And they brainwash a lot of people. So now as a business owner, creative & Notion consultant, what I get to do is decolonize my business and help my clients look at their own businesses through a decolonization lens."Today I'm joined by Podge Thomas for a reflective conversation about why being self-employed invites (and requires) decolonizing how we learn, how we communicate, how we operate, and how we relate to others. Podge is a queer, POC, neurodivergent Notion consultant. Her clients are progressive and radical self-identifying women and non-binary business leaders. When she's not Notion-izing, she is renovating her 1780's home in New England with her partner. Together we explore:The coercive effects of traditional education ⛓️
A West Clare farmer is hoping to be the "Podge Collins" of keeping jobs in the county. Kilkee native Kevin Hassett will be putting his name on the ballot in Clare in the upcoming General Election, having received 448 first preference votes when running for Independent Ireland in the recent Local Elections. Having long been West Clare's main employment hub, Moneypoint Power Station will soon begin its transition from burning coal to oil, with this process expected to create between 90 and 100 jobs. Hassett, who's now standing as an Independent candidate, fears if swift action isn't taken, the region's jobs could soon be lost to nearby counties.
Hi friends, Amy here. There won't be an actual audio release this week and here's why… we met up in person and celebrated our birthdays together, made some drinks, opened some presents, and just chatted about life. But as a result, some might find the sound quality of the finished product pretty hard to listen to. There are lots of extra sounds because, when we meet in person we tend to get a little more animated than when we're on our computers at our own homes. So we emphasized by banging hands on the table and even the mics occasionally. You can also hear the shaking of martinis. On top of that, since we had to sit so close together in order to all be on camera, our voices are picked up in each other's mics. I did my best to fix that in post, but I'm not totally happy with it. So I'm not going to release an audio version of this one. It's definitely a visual episode anyway. So mix yourself up a Ghost Bride Martini (from Amy Bruni's new book, Food to Die For) and head over to YouTube or Spotify and watch the video version. YouTube: https://bit.ly/TAC_videos Spotify: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theactivitycontinues In that we chatted about Paint by Numbers sets, drunk online shopping and the smell of books. Megan argues with AP regarding the length of her work commute (AP's not Megan's), Amy gives a review of a newly re-opened local restaurant, and AP tells us about her solo vacation to the Pacific Northwest. We also talk a little about religion, casseroles, and our possible past lives, which is a spoiler for our episode with Jenny the Psychic that will be out in a few weeks. And remember, if you like Moscato, drink Moscato! We'll see you next week for our live show! Stay spooky! In today's episode, Madeline converses with Podge, a Notion consultant, Fractional COO, and the founder of Small Business Co-Pilot. Podge narrates how her journey as a founder, is informed by the awareness of her ancestors' struggle for rights and freedoms she now enjoys, and how she's motivated and humbled by the privilege to live and work in the way she does today. In conversation, Madeline & Podge also delve into her freelance journey and how colonialism and imperialism can manifest within the workplace. Podge emphasizes the importance of developing atmospheres of transparency, collaboration, and learning in the workplace instead of siloed and controlling environments. She further shares her approach to reframing work as a place where individuals learn and grow instead of focusing purely on productivity. Finally, Podge discusses a new guide she has developed that focuses on employee stewardship, hiring, onboarding, managing, and separating as a means to decolonize the workplace.00:00 Introduction and Guest Background00:29 Guest's Personal Journey and Ancestry02:25 Emotional Break and Regrouping03:27 Guest's Perspective on Privilege and Disadvantage03:52 Impact of Colonialism and Imperialism on Work Culture05:33 Guest's Transition from Traditional Employment to Entrepreneurship06:00 The Role of Notion in Creating Transparent and Collaborative Work Environments06:16 Discussion on the Need for Change in the Business World06:53 Critique of Capitalism and Profitability Models08:20 Challenges with the Traditional 40-hour Work Week11:05 The Importance of Thought and Discussion in the Workplace13:37 Decolonizing the Workplace: An Introduction14:06 Practical Steps to Decolonize the Hiring Process23:18 Reimagining Power Dynamics in Business28:46 Transforming the Workplace into a Learning Place30:27 Aligning Personal Passion with Company Mission30:54 Creating a Culture of Perfection vs. Learning31:42 Reframing Work as a Place for Growth33:00 Rethinking Turnover and Embracing Change33:40 The Importance of Dignity in Employee Separation34:09 Employee Stewardship and the Impact on Business35:20 The Balance of Vulnerability in Leadership38:04 The Struggles of Fem Identified Leaders41:21 The Power of Clear Communication and Boundaries51:58 Decolonizing the Workplace: A Vision for the Future52:37 The Role of Operations in Employee Stewardship55:23 Finding Fearlessness in Rest and ReflectionFinding Fearless is an exploration of human-centric leadership and a celebration of ambition, releasing every other week on Wednesdays, 6AM PST. On Thursday's Morning Focus, Podge Collins spoke with Clare FM's Sports Editor Derrick Lynch on his retirement announcement from intercounty football. Earlier this month, Clare football received a big blow, with the confirmation of Podge Collins' retirement from inter-county action. The Cratloe man decided to call time on a career that began back in 2014. He switched from a dual mandate in 2017 to focus on hurling, but returned to the football set-up in 2021. It's a setback for Clare boss Mark Fitzgerald, who must plan for the 2024 season without up to 11 of his players. Picture (c) Shutterstock
Clare FM's Derrick Lynch speaks with 2013 All Ireland winner Podge Collins on his decision to retire from the intercounty scene

With Hope's birthday coming up, Cassie is keen to celebrate but is caught by surprise when Hope decides that she's not invited to the party. Racist Kelly sets some tongues a-wagging when she gets a beautiful new necklace that she claims came from her new beau. Isla has a confession to make to Nina who is already struggling to deal with Nina's possessiveness. Stu is crushed when Eliza announces that she'll be spending Christmas with Dom and his parents. Simon stumbles upon video evidence of Ryan and Daisy's secret affair and wastes no time in bringing an already suspicious Daniel up to speed. Sam says it with book tokens. Evelyn is in disguise. Chesney just wants a cuppa in peace.
A former Clare U-21 Football Manager says the selfless workate of Podge Collins was central to all of this county's success. The Cratloe ace announced his retirement from inter-county football today following a career that began in 2014. A dual-star who rose to prominence from an early age, Collins was a member of the Clare U-21 and Senior All-Ireland Hurling winning teams in 2013 ,while he also played a key role in Clare's victory over Kildare in the National Football League Final in 2016 and would remain a key fixture in the Banner's full-forward line thereafter. Joe Garry, who managed Podge at underage level, has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan that he was a joy to deal with.

If you had told me 10 years ago that strong documentation was one of the most important aspects of building great company culture, I would have thought you were nuts. But here we are. On this week's episode, we're talking the talk, and walking the walk! We'll be talking about actually building the processes to reflect our values in our organizations to create more equitable spaces for POC and women. “Business leaders thought that if they gave an inch, everybody was gonna take a mile, right? That if they made any sort of a concession that the whole system was gonna break.,” Podge Thomas commented. Podge Thomas is the founder of the Small Business Co-pilot. Five years ago when she started Podge was doing general business strategy. Through the years she's niched, her work today is at the intersection of operations and management. Her passion is ethical management practices, working to decolonize the workplace, and making the workplace as equitable and inclusive as possible. In this week's show, she expands on the ways in which small business owners can structure their businesses to reflect the values of anti-racism, justice, and inclusion. Tune in to listen to Podge, and let us know: how can your company or place of work use what we've learned today to make improvements to their culture. Resources:Podge Thomas on Linkedin

Show Notes: I briefly mentioned some really incredible entrepreneurs in episode 164: The Best Niches Beyond Private Practice. My friend Podge listened and then said something like: Are we going to have a chance to hear more about all of these people? I want to hire ALL of them! That is a fantastic idea. Even better, I want you to get to hear FROM a lot of these people. This is a series sharing the voices of people who have been through Rebel Therapist programs recently.
