Laws have their place, but when it comes to following a law ... especially “God's law” ... at the expense of someone's dignity, we may need to look deeper into the intent of the law.  In today's text from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus pushes the religious leaders to think carefully about the true meaning of Sabbath, and to consider how a legalistic view can actually cause harm which is never God's intent.  Join hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith for a conversation about Sabbath as Jesus suggests it is intended to be understood. Often making Sabbath available to all calls for action... not rest.Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. Abandoned at birth and raised in Romanian orphanages, Lucian Mastata knows the pain of rejection, neglect, and loneliness. In this heartfelt conversation, Lucian shares how a chance visit to a Christmas carol service as a teenager introduced him to the hope of Jesus and changed everything.  As he continued to return to church, he discovered that God was not a distant figure but a loving Father who could heal the wounds of his past and give him purpose for the future. We talk about the emotional toll of growing up as an orphan — the shame, stigma, low self-worth, and the healing power of God's love.  Lucian now leads one of the largest Christian music festivals in Eastern Europe, HeartBeats, creating space for the next generation to encounter Christ in a real and relevant way. His story is one of humility, perseverance, and radical hope. It's a powerful reminder that no matter what happened in our past, God can redeem any situation. Sometimes the Gospel writers don't catch Jesus at his most pastoral moments. Sometimes Jesus just needs to get straight to the point. This week's passage from the Gospel of Luke is one of those not so “happy Jesus” passages. Hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith explore the context of Jesus' teachings amidst poverty and oppression, emphasizing the need for discipleship and standing against unjust systems. They remind us of the importance of interpreting cultural signs and the challenges of following Jesus, which may cause inner turmoil and external conflict. Reflecting on our own actions, societal expectations, and the risks we are willing to take for the betterment of others is important if we're going to turn things upside down for the reign of God. Download the TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. We all make judgements about how people act or respond in certain situations or to certain circumstances ... ultimately deciding which is the “better” response or action. We can't help ourselves. In today's gospel passage from the Gospel of Luke, we find ourselves watching as two sisters respond differently to Jesus' presence, and one of them tries to get Jesus to choose sides. In reality, we all respond to things in different ways, and one is not necessarily better than others... at least not always. Maybe, just maybe, there are times when there's a less binary option where we can find common ground ... an option that respects everyone's individual journey. Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. Not everyone agrees there is a climate emergency, but agree or not, we are seeing the results of global climate change, and those most affected are “the least of these.” At Community of Christ's 2025 World Conference, there was strong support for resolutions that seek to address climate issues, and three resolutions passed with significant support. In this episode of Climate Brewing, host Susan Oxley sits down with previous guest and climate enthusiast Paul Bethel to get his response to the actions taken at that conference. Listen in for some eye-opening information that shows how the realization of the Church's initiatives depends on our response... not just in legislation, but in real-life action. Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. This is coming from Andrew, who was the first in his community to step up, and who now has over a decade of proof showing how renewable energy can save money and move us closer to saving the planet. Motherhood is a sacred calling—but it can also be exhausting. From sleepless nights to emotionally draining days, moms often give everything to everyone else… leaving themselves running on empty. In this heartfelt and hope-filled episode of the Raising Godly Girls Podcast, host Patti Garibay, Founder & Executive Director Emeritus of American Heritage Girls, welcomes Sherri Crandall, Vice President of Global Ministries and Leadership Experience at The MomCo, to unpack the one powerful question every burned-out mom must answer: What do you want Me to do for you? (Mark 10:51).  Drawing from a recent Barna Group study with The MomCo revealing that 50% of Christian moms long for support from their church in the area of mental wellness, this episode leans into the truth that asking for help isn't weakness—it's wisdom. Together, Patti and Sherri discuss the stigma moms feel around needing support, the Gospel's invitation to release guilt and shame, and how to create space for real, vulnerable community in our homes, churches, and hearts.  Through Biblical wisdom, relatable stories, and encouraging guidance, Sherri equips moms to take their first steps toward healing and renewal—spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. From practical ways to model vulnerability to your daughter to the importance of honest prayer and soul-care, this conversation reminds listeners that Jesus sees you, knows your needs, and gently asks, What do you want Me to do for you?  If you're a mom feeling weary, unseen, or overwhelmed, this episode is your invitation to exhale, reflect, and receive. You're not alone—and you don't have to carry it all alone.  To learn more about Sherri and her work with The MomCo, visit themom.co  Explore more resources to raise girls rooted in Christ at raisinggodlygirls.com.   To find or start an AHG Troop in your area, visit americanheritagegirls.org.

It's time to get some new “clothes.”  Who doesn't like that? Right? But there's a small catch... we have to wait a little bit. Just stay here and wait, Jesus says ... until you are clothed in the Holy Spirit. The reality is that we could all use an excuse to get a little rest.  It is in resting that we are able to receive the blessing of the Spirit's presence. Join hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith as they rest in the Gospel of Luke for this Ascension Sunday episode of Coffee to Go. We could all use a little reminding every once in a while. In the midst of chaos and hectic schedules, the call to do something uncomfortable is easily shrugged off with extremely relevant rationalizations as to why we can't.  That's why Jesus promised an advocate.  Unfortunately, however, the advocate of whom he spoke is not there to speak on our behalf, but rather to remind us of our call and conviction. We have been given the peace of Christ to reside in us, and that, believe it or not, is enough to get us through. Come listen in as Karin and Blake talk this one through and give us some things to think about and some things to put into action. Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. It is perhaps one of the easiest commandments to speak, and yet one of the hardest to put into action. We live in a world where it seems to have become easier to build walls than to sit and listen to one another... much less love one another. In many arenas, people are attempting to define diversity as a bad thing. The idea of unity in diversity, to them, seems impossible. But, Jesus reminds us to love one another, just as he loved us. Join hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith for a conversation about Jesus' command to love. Then, spend some time thinking about how you can take down a few walls and love a little more. Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285.
