On our last episode for Halloween, we are covering the Grandaddy of all Spooks: Vlad Tepes! His childhood was unusual as he spent it as a hostage in a Sultan's court. After being released he vowed to reclaim his throne and fight against the Turks. In total he would regain his throne 3 times. Along the way he implemented fear tactics and severe punishments; his favorite being impalement. No one was excluded from his path of destruction. During his lifetime poems, ballads and rumors were created about him. Since the publication of Dracula in the 1890s his legacy has grown to include being synonymous with vampires and the undead. Elizabeth Bathory has been known as the Blood Countess for centuries. Rumors have persisted that she potentially killed up to 600 young girls in the search for ever-lasting youth. But are the rumors real? Or were her accusations, trial and imprisonment all a set-up by the King and nobility to take down the wealthiest and largest land-owning woman in the area? Join us as we look at her life, the evidence, the hearsay, how the rumors began and her lasting legacy in history. Welcome to our first episode of Spooky Season! We are kicking it off with a bang with Gilles de Rais. He was a knight for Charles VII, he fought alongside Joan of Arc and was made Marshall of France for his accomplishments in the Hundred Year War. He was also a spendthrift who loved producing extravagant plays, with free food and drink for all. It also seemed he liked to dabble in the Dark Arts, alchemy & demon summoning! He is maybe most remembered for possibly being the most prolific serial killer in all France, with estimations as much as 600 bodies! Join us as we travel back the 1420s to take a look at Gilles' life, his excessive spending, his accusations, his trial, the evidence against him, theories, modern thoughts and much more! Note: This episode does contain talk about serial killings, as well as potential pedophilia & potential child killing. It may not be suitable for all listeners; discretion is advised. Hello Everyone & Welcome to Spooky Season! We are starting off on a quite macabre note: Le Teatre du Grand-Guignol in Paris. This was a theatre in the Pigalle section of Paris that catered to very graphic, realistic and gruesome plays. The theatre ran from the 1890s to the 1960s. We will discuss the history of the theatre, as well as the history of theatre in France at the time. We will also be covering various plays, writers, actors and recipes for the prosthetics and gore throughout the run of the theatre. Disclaimer: This episode discusses blood, guts and gore used in realistic theatre plays. If you are uncomfortable with graphic descriptions of these topics, we ask that you check out one of our other episodes. We're switching gears to talk about a new segment created just in time to keep the spooky season alive! This is the first episode of our new Nightmares of Reality series were we look at horror movies that have been based on true events. We'll talk a little about the movie and the impact it's had on society. Then, I'll do some research for you lazy bums and give you all the juicy details about what actually happened in real life. In the end, it's up to you to decide if it's all just a hoax or it is in fact a nightmare of reality. What better movie to start off the series with than 1973's The Exorcist. Please enjoy the first part of our investigation into the movie and the boy who the movie was based on, Robbie Mannheim. As always, it's a wonderful day for an exorcism. Welcome to pandemic pandemonium. This episode is not about viruses or quarantines, but I hope it gives you something to do while you count your rolls of toilet paper and ensure you have enough shotgun shells for the ensuing apocalypse. In this episode we discuss the MURDER of Elmer DeBoer by Jerry Strickland with accomplice Melissa Munday, the ROBBERY and possible mistaken identity case in Michael Scott Martin's FINAL APPEAL, possible satanic cult murders or coincidences with the story of Kurt McFall's UNEXPLAINED DEATH, and FINALLY we get to talk about how mail worked in WWII! It goes really sideways in story with lots of information about Satan, so hydrate, wash your hands, and prepare for evil to enter your body in the much belated EPISODE FIVE! Los Angeles in the late 1940s was in the stages of recovery after World War II. While people strived to find a sense of normality after years of being at war, Los Angeles would soon be haunted by the murder of a young woman found in a vacant lot, cut in half. Many suspects were investigated, but none were indicted. Will this case ever be solved?
