Geez, I thought I'd met some bad eggs in the online dating world... Tracy Hall's experience sure takes the cake though. In 2016 she met Max Tavita online and for the next 18 months they built a seemingly solid relationship with great plans for the future. Until... she woke up one morning to a Crime Stoppers video of him being arrested. Turns out, Max Tavita wasn’t Max Tavita at all. His real name was Hamish McLaren (or Hamish Watson, or Hamish Maxwell pending which day you spoke to him) and he was one of Australia’s most prolific con men. He’d stolen millions from multiple victims and Tracy Hall was his last. Her savings, her trust, her sense of safety, all gone in a blink. We talk about the layers of betrayal, the grief of losing someone who didn’t really exist, the shame, the unraveling of trust - not just in others, but in herself. We unpacked shame and how it isolates us not just from the world, but from ourselves. And how, sometimes, telling the story is the only way to stop shame from tightening its grip. This is one of those conversation that had me feeling like I was watching a movie, rather than speaking to a human about real life... But sometimes that is real life, isn't it? Hamish McLaren is a serial fraudster. Remember the podcast Who the Hell Is Hamish? He defrauded victims of their money for more than 30 years before he finally saw the inside of a prison cell. Tracy Hall was his last victim, losing over $317,000 of her life savings to Hamish while in a relationship with him for 18 months. Hamish didn’t just financially manipulate Tracy; he emotionally destroyed her. It’s taken her years to recover from that kind of deceit. She processed it by writing a book, The Last Victim, which details her story. You can find The Last Victim here. RESOURCES What to do if you're scammed, defrauded or there is a data breach. We've entered the month of December, which means that holiday celebrations areunder way and Little House's 50 th Anniversary year will soon enter the history books – orwill it? The show premiered in September of 1974, so the Anniversary year rolls on.More on that to come in later shows. One of the things we'll remember about this December 5 episode of the podcast is thatAlison and Dean did it without the support of our very special host, Pamela Bob, whoZooms in each week from Brooklyn, NY. We missed her and we can tell you today thatPamela is fine, but we can also say that the reason she wasn't with us on Thanksgivinggives us the opportunity to say thanks for her swift return. We'll leave Pamela to sharethe details of her Thanksgiving absence as she chooses. In the meantime, we are deeply thankful for our Bonnethead family, who allow us toconnect and continue the Little House Love that began with the premiere of Little Houseso many years ago.Today we're very excited to welcome the children of a man who was there right fromthe start of the Little House adventure early in 1974. We are speaking of Victor French,Little House's beloved Mr. Edwards. Two of Victor's three children, Tracy Hall and herolder brother, Victor Allen French (not a Junior, BTW) were in town to take part in2024's final Little House on the Prairie tours of Big Sky Movie Ranch on December 1. Theday before the tours Alison and Dean welcomed Tracy and Victor into the studios ofUBNGo in Burbank. It was a wonderful conversation about their unforgettably talenteddad that focused on his portrayal of Isiah Edwards, the transforming power of the role, his passion for the craft of acting, and his children's remembrances of Victor as a veryspecial dad.We also heard about Victor and Tracy's commitment to their dad's creative legacy; theyhave a new online store (see below) and are working on the publication of his theoriesof acting titled, A Matter of Choice. If you worked with Victor or loved his work on stageand screen, we think A Matter of Choice is a “must-read.”For our Patrons we will continue with Tracy and Victor focusing on their gleeful playtimewith their dad that made every day in the French house a kind of laughing, screamingHalloween adventure. Those of us who worked with Victor can totally relate to his extraordinary ability to make us laugh, cry, or scream as the circumstances evolvedduring so many wonderful scenes.A SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE HOLIDAYS (Written by Pamela):Little House on the Prairie is at the heart of what so many are most grateful for, not justbecause of the timeless stories it told, but because of the lasting impact it has had on allof us. The show brought families together, fostering a sense of community and sharedvalues that transcend generations. It taught us about resilience, love, and theimportance of finding gratitude even in the most challenging times. For many ofus, Little House was more than just entertainment—it was a source of comfort, inspiration, and connection to a simpler, yet deeply meaningful way of life. It has shapedhow we view family, community, and the world around us, and continues to remind usto appreciate the little things in life. Today, as we gather with loved ones, let usremember these values as a country, a community, as human beings.Haven't signed up for Patreon yet? When a headline-making physicist named Dr. H. Tracy Hall, moved into high school senior Trevor Andersen's neighborhood, Trevor asked the scientist if he would make a guest appearance at his high school's Sapere Aude club.  The scientist said he would.  The year was 1956.   Trevor then met with Sapere Aude president Harry Olson who arranged to have a special meeting held, not in an after-hours high school classroom, but in the spacious home and family room of club member Lynn Poulson.  So, what was so special about Dr. H. Tracy Hall?  And why did Lynn Poulson insist that "no ordinary classroom will do for Dr. Hall?"   It was because of who Dr. Hall was, a man as brilliant as the object he scientifically created from coal -- a man who is known today as the world's first true alchemist.        Stories from History's Dust Bin is a 3-volume set of historical short stories. These are the nuggets of gold that had fallen by the wayside… the little known and unusual. Many of these gems were destined to be forever lost until they were collected, dusted off and brought back to life by author Wayne Winterton.   Each podcast episode features one of over 450 short stories from either Winterton's Award-Winning Stories from Dust Bin series* or the companion volume, From Ace to Zamboni: 101 More Dust Bin Stories, as narrated by either the author or his son, William, or daughter, Jana.   If you enjoy today's episode, please leave us 5 stars and a glowing review on iTunes! Tracy Hall had been separated from her husband for over a year when she first met a man called Max Tavita via a dating app. He seemed witty, charming, intelligent, and attractive....a successful investment advisor with a sensitive side. He'd also been struck by terrible tragedy: he told her that as a 6-year-old he'd been in a plane crash that killed his parents, and left him an orphan. And then there was his job in New York...he apparently worked in the World Trade Centre, knew lots of people who died on 9-11, and had been walking underneath the Twin Towers when the first plane hit. But in 'Who The Hell is Hamish?' from 'The Australian' newspaper (presented by Greg Bearup) it becomes clear that Max Tavita isn't who he says he is.

This show was a pilot for a series about Winston Somerset Palmer, a man who survived cancer and embarked on a quest to find himself. Winston's story evolved into what became a novel, "The Resurrection Pact" with Winston (now "Casey") finding a strong reason to live in a geek noir mystery. This is the original concept, produced in November of 2010.  "When you've got nothing to look forward to, you find yourself looking back" On the other side of the pain and the fear, beyond the long, desperate nights alone or among strangers, they told me there would be peace. They told me there would be light and music and joy. In the end, there was just another day. At a luxury Caribbean resort on the island of Charu, Winston Somerset Palmer looks off The Deep End and considers his past, his second chance, and how he can deconstruct a lifetime of mediocrity.
