Have you ever heard of "clinical vampirism," more commonly known today as Renfield's Syndrome? One review of psychiatric literature claims that over 50,000 people addicted to drinking blood have appeared in case studies from 1892 to 2010. But does that mean that any of them are actually, at least medically speaking, vampires? For Merch and everything else Bad Magic related, head to: https://www.badmagicproductions.com
See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In 15th-century France, Gilles de Rais, a wealthy nobleman and celebrated war hero, descended into madness and infamy. Initially known for his bravery alongside Joan of Arc, he became notorious for the abduction, torture, and murder of over 140 children. His heinous crimes were driven by a thirst for violence and a failed pursuit of alchemy and satanic rituals. While he confessed under threat of torture, some believe de Rais was a victim of a church conspiracy, leaving his true guilt or innocence forever shrouded in mystery. __________________________ Fontes e dicas culturais no nosso site: https://geopizza.com.br/o-barao-serial-killer-gilles-de-rais-119/ __________________________ Apoie o Geopizza e escute episódio exclusivos!

Headed to 15th century to explore the life of a man who may have been the wealthiest noble in all of France at one point, and commander of France's military - Gilles de Rais. Was this contemporary of Joan of Arc also a demon-worshipper child killer? He was put to death for, among other crimes, confessing to killing 140 children in the most heinous of ways. Did he really do all that he was accused of? Or was he another victim of a medieval witch hunt? Nice blend of true crime and. history today. Happy Halloween! This week the boys learn the fate of alleged medieval child serial killer Gilles de Rais, who after hanging up his military career, shifted focus on finding new ways to acquire victims, as well as forming his own church, composing an extravagant theatrical play, and dipping his toes into Satanism.
The boys continue the historically brutal tale of Gilles de Rais and we learn how he transitioned from life on the battlefield to becoming one of the most sadistic child predators of all time.

The legend of Blue Beard, found in many a Fairy Tale story collection, is said to be based upon the story of the infamous Gilles De Rais, one time Hero of the French turned necromantic serial killer. This is a little bonus episode, just because I love my listeners! Enjoy this eery fairy tale, with some moral (and mysogynistic) messages. Just enjoy the descriptions of oppulence, the suspense, and the gratifying fairy tale ending.
History is filled with evildoers and Serial Killers, but only one can be considered the first. In this episode I share the story of Gilles de Rais (Retz), the fallen Hero of France, onetime companion to Joan of Arc, turned alchemist, necromancer, and is said to be the world's first Serial Killer. His tale shows how even the mightiest among us can Fall into the darkest pits of depravity. Perhaps money truly is the root of all evil.

He was the right-hand man of Joan of Arc and the single richest and most powerful nobleman of Anjou. He was a war hero, the Marshall of France. But he has also been described as the most horrific serial killer in French history, a man who inspired the grizzly tale of Bluebeard. In this video we will discuss Gilles de Rais the man who supposedly sold his soul to the Devil and eventually paid the ultimate price.
There are a few things you should do before moving out of your house. Most people will make a short to-do list of sorts. Turn off the power, check all the closets for valuables, things like that. But even then you will always leave some part of yourself behind… maybe it's a piece of mail, your welcome mat, or maybe even your scent. It's inevitable. Understandable. You probably wouldn't expect to find dead bodies though. The headless bodies of two young boys. They weren't hidden in the chimney, or buried in the backyard, they were slumped over in a room in plain sight. You couldn't help but wonder. What the hell was the previous owner doing? What happened? And where are the heads? Laura, Krysta and Dean figuratively travel back to the early 1400's to encounter a nobleman with a unique reputation. But first Krysta gives us some weird facts this time about D&D! This gives Laura a platform to discuss her love of Critical Role while Dean mentions his own upcoming TTRPG project and we find out Krysta would like to learn how to be a Dungeon Master! From there, they begin to discuss Gilles De Rais, a man that the French considered a hero of the Hundred Years War who was accused of both dabbling in the occult and sexually assaulting and murdering young boys! Do we believe any of this? Do you? Tune in and let us know!
Welcome to our first episode of Spooky Season! We are kicking it off with a bang with Gilles de Rais. He was a knight for Charles VII, he fought alongside Joan of Arc and was made Marshall of France for his accomplishments in the Hundred Year War. He was also a spendthrift who loved producing extravagant plays, with free food and drink for all. It also seemed he liked to dabble in the Dark Arts, alchemy & demon summoning! He is maybe most remembered for possibly being the most prolific serial killer in all France, with estimations as much as 600 bodies! Join us as we travel back the 1420s to take a look at Gilles' life, his excessive spending, his accusations, his trial, the evidence against him, theories, modern thoughts and much more! April just keeps dragging me farther back in history, this time to the 1400s! She will introduce us to Gilles de Rais. He went from a War Hero and the protector of Joan of Arc, to a convicted serial killer of 100 children. BUT, did he actually commit the crimes he was accused and convicted of? Listen up, and then you decide! And there might be a few tangents we go off on tonight... But we're not called Nocturnal DISTRACTIONS for no reason... *CORRECTION*!!! The five star review shout out should have been for CESAR not Oscar.
In 1440 a french nobleman was put on trial and executed. The charges? Murder, abuse, and black magic. Join Matt K Ultra and Roswell as they dissect the life and crimes of Gilles de Rais, one of history's most infamous serial killers, and discuss his relevance in regards to modern day abuse scandals. As the justness of the trial was a subject of some contention, we attempt to measure the credibility of revisionists who seek to exonerate the medieval war hero. Content warning for children those sensitive to topics in relation to child abuse and murder.
