The tier system for plyometrics is based on a simple classification of movement intensity. Tendon health is crucial for athletes, especially in track and field. Volume is essential for structural development in muscles and tendons. Joint stiffness plays a significant role in athletic performance. The light tier of plyometrics is more muscular-based and less effective for structural changes. High volumes of plyometric training can lead to significant improvements in performance. Athletes in team sports often hide injuries better than those in track and field. The stretch-shortening cycle is vital for understanding tendon function during athletic movements. Fatigue in muscles can limit the effectiveness of tendon utilization during performance. Max effort jumps primarily enhance neuromuscular output. Tendon development requires specific training tiers. Stiffness and compliance are crucial for tendon health. Deep tier movements may improve tendon compliance. Youth training should consider peak height velocity. Monitoring volume and intensity is essential for young athletes. Tendons behave differently in youth compared to adults. Injury prevention strategies must include structural training. The relationship between joint angles and tendon strain is complex. Upcoming courses will focus on practical training methods. McInnes and Goldstein both started in zines. The underground DIY magazine culture of the 80s and 90s. Zines were homemade photocopied pamphlets about anything and everything. As long as you had paper, glue, staples, maybe a few shitty drawings, and you could sneak access to a photocopier, you could publish your own zine.Nobody went viral, nobody made money, no one was an influencer, but thousands of people devoted heart and soul to making their own zines. And when they did, well, who even cared? Who even noticed when some teenager shouted into the void? Broken Pencil noticed. Broken Pencil cared. For 30 years Broken Pencil was the magazine about zines and BP reviewed over 10,000 zines. And then last year Broken Pencil founder and publisher Hal Niedzviecki, shuttered BP. Proud Boys - Who are they? What do they want?Mar 21, 2023Ed Opperman interviews 'former Proud Boy' about the group, it's ethos and exactly why they are such a threat to the way of life in America. From wikipediaThe Proud Boys is an exclusively male North American far-right neo-fascist organization that promotes and engages in political violence in the United States. It has been called a street gang and was designated as a terrorist group in Canada and New Zealand. The Proud Boys are known for their opposition to left-wing and progressive groups and their support for former U.S. President Donald Trump. The group originated in the far-right Taki's Magazine in 2016 under the leadership of Vice Media co-founder and former commentator Gavin McInnes, taking its name from the song "Proud of Your Boy" from the 2011 Disney musical Aladdin.Although the Proud Boys initially emerged as part of the alt-right, McInnes distanced himself from this movement in early 2017, saying the Proud Boys were alt-lite while the alt-right's focus was on race. Donald Trump's comment, "Proud Boys, stand back and stand by," during the October 2020 presidential debates are credited with greatly increasing interest and recruitment. Enrique Tarrio, an Afro-Cuban Cuban-American, has been the chairman of the Proud Boys since late 2018. According to a former federal prosecutor and the transcripts of a 2014 federal court proceeding, Tarrio had previously served as an informant to both federal and local law enforcement.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Join Revero waitlist: https://revero.com/join Matt Watson is a dynamic thinker with a keen interest in biomechanics and human movement. His approach centers on the idea that the human body's reflexive capacities, such as the sudden jolt experienced when stepping on an unexpected stair, highlight our innate ability to anticipate. Matt champions the concept that maintaining high-intensity, simplistic movements can significantly benefit our physical resilience. He argues that the most effective exercises are those that are straightforward yet demanding, like barefoot activities on concrete, which stimulate potent physiological responses. Matt emphasizes the importance of plyometric and jumping exercises in preserving our anticipatory abilities, which he considers humanity's greatest superpower. Driven by a belief in the power of simplicity in maintaining intensity, Matt's insights offer a fresh perspective on optimizing physical training and endurance. In this episode of Learning from Machine Learning, we explore the intersection of pure mathematics and modern data science with Leland McInnes, the mind behind an ecosystem of tools for unsupervised learning including UMAP, HDBSCAN, PyNN Descent and DataMapPlot. As a researcher at the Tutte Institute for Mathematics and Computing, McInnes has fundamentally shaped how we approach and understand complex data.McInnes views data through a unique geometric lens, drawing from his background in algebraic topology to uncover hidden patterns and relationships within complex datasets. This perspective led to the creation of UMAP, a breakthrough in dimensionality reduction that preserves both local and global data structure to allow for incredible visualizations and clustering. Similarly, his clustering algorithm HDBSCAN tackles the messy reality of real-world data, handling varying densities and noise with remarkable effectiveness. But perhaps what's most striking about McInnes isn't just his technical achievements – it's his philosophy toward algorithm development. He champions the concept of "decomposing black box algorithms," advocating for transparency and understanding over blind implementation. By breaking down complex algorithms into their fundamental components, McInnes argues, we gain the power to adapt and innovate rather than simply consume. For those entering the field, McInnes offers poignant advice: resist the urge to chase the hype. Instead, find your unique angle, even if it seems unconventional. His own journey – applying concepts from algebraic topology and fuzzy simplicial sets to data science – demonstrates how breakthrough innovations often emerge from unexpected connections.Throughout our conversation, McInnes's passion for knowledge and commitment to understanding shine through. His approach reminds us that the most powerful advances in data science often come not from following the crowd, but from diving deep into fundamentals and drawing connections across disciplines. There's immense value in understanding the tools you use, questioning established approaches, and bringing your unique perspective to the field. As McInnes shows us, sometimes the most significant breakthroughs come from seeing familiar problems through a new lens.Resources for Leland McInnesLeland's GithubUMAPHDBSCANPyNN DescentDataMapPlotEVoCReferencesMaarten GrootendorstLearning from Machine Learning Episode 1Vincent Warmerdam - CalmcodeLearning from Machine Learning Episode 2Matt RocklinEmily Riehl - Category Theory in ContextLorena BarbaDavid Spivak - Fuzzy Simplicial SetsImproving Mapper's Robustness by Varying Resolution According to Lens-Space DensityLearning from Machine LearningYoutubehttps://mindfulmachines.substack.com/
